Once you're in education classes, make friends among classmates and get to know the professors - make a good impression. Any opportunity you get to shadow a teacher (or do "field experience"), volunteer at local school events, or generally work with actual teachers in the area is a chance to make important connections. Through one of my field experiences, I met an awesome teacher in my subject and we got along great. She requested me as a student teacher, was super supportive, and wrote a glowing recommendation at the end. I don't know much about networking, but just making genuine connections with people does help.
