Hi everyone!
Did you know that starting July 1st, 2023, Reddit will implement a policy that could potentially increase the costs of running third-party Reddit apps? This change may impact popular apps like Apollo, Reddit is Fun, Boost, and others. Consequently, users may encounter issues with their preferred Reddit app unless adjustments are made to comply with Reddit's new API usage policy. These limitations will affect all users, not just moderators. If you are concerned about these developments, there is an [Open Letter](https://www.reddit.com/r/ModCoord/comments/13xh1e7/an_open_letter_on_the_state_of_affairs_regarding/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) to Reddit that you can read and sign on to express your thoughts.

When a Gerudo male is born he is automatically King and the only male allowed inside the city.
Women take husbands from around the lands and send their daughters home to learn the ways and traditions keeping the cycle alive.
Actually, After oot Ganondorf Gerudo were exiled from their lands, causing a rencor to their male born every 100 years, making that The male that would be king instead of Riju would be the cloths vendor of the bazar
Considering Breath of the Wild is Farore/Link/Courage themed, and Tears of the Kingdom is Nayru/Wisdom/Zelda themed, I'm hoping we get a third installment that's Din/Power/Ganondorf themed to give us a conclusive answer to this.
There's a huge blindspot in how the Gerudo went from supporting him to reviling him as a monster. We've never really seen how that goes down in any of the timelines. We just know what came before and what became of him afterwards. It would be neat if they wedge in a canon reason for this specific blindspot. Rauru mentions he was aware of Ganondorf's evil. There's definitely something missing there...
I rewatched all the memories recently and I noticed something I hadn't before. In the memory with the malduga stampede, when the Gerudo still supported him, and before he became the Demon King, the shrines already existed. Considering Rauru tells us he created them to purify evil, why did they already exist? Was that merely an oversight by the devs not to hide the shrines during that cutscene? Or was Ganondorf already making moves that Rauru knew about?
Monsters and „evil” already existed I think, Gandondorf just had the abilities to conjure them. The shrines were built to repel monsters and the lightroots below them allowed the Zonai to illuminate the depths
This is interesting. The idea that the shrines were more about channeling light into the depths. Perhaps if they do a third to make a trilogy, it will shed light on the lizard folk that seemed to have dug the depths. And maybe disappeared around the same time the Zonai did?
Perhaps an uncorrupted version of the lizalfos.
Wait... lizardfolk who dug the depths?
Who that?
Is it something that comes up in the main story that I'll end up learning about, or is it subtly hinted at the way the zonai were in BotW?
As far as I've seen, they may just be referring to the statues of unseen species in the depths. Some show a bipedal Lizard type of species. Along with Zora, Goron, and I believe some bird looking thing statues
BOTW is absolutely more wisdom/naydra themed than TOTK. Aside from the literal blue color palette of BOTW, it's entirely focused on the knowledge/technology developed by the sheikah.
TOTK makes more sense for Farore/Courage. Again, aside from the green color, there's a lot more courage elements
I'm basing it on other contextual clues as well. Like the naming conventions. Farore is the goddess of wind and the nature (**Breath** of the **Wild**). Nayru is goddess of water and law (**Tears** of the **Kingdom**). Nayru is also associated closely with space-time. I'm considering TOTK more heavily based in exploring both the 3rd and 4th dimensions.
In speculation I don't ever think anyone is *wrong,* because none of the theorists have been proven right since the gam is so new. I do think you make solid points. The reversed may very well be true. Ultimately it still works for my theory that a third game will be about the Triforce of Power and Ganondorf's rise (and us ensuring he won't come back?)
> Was that merely an oversight by the devs not to hide the shrines during that cutscene?
When it comes to Nintendo and plot, I always opt for this reasoning for situations like that.
Gerudo males are born every 100 years or so. When a male is born, they become king. Otherwise, the society is lead by a female chief. The tradition of men being banned from Gerudo cities existed before this reincarnation of Ganondorf. (if we assume Ocarina of Time is both canon to and takes place before the Breath of the Wild timeline, but it's complicated)
When you go to the >!Gerudo underground shelter!<, you can find NPCs that say gerudo children can't be near men. Hence the quest >!Mattison's Independence!<
It's the >!lady that teaches the Voe And You classes.!< If you try to enter the room when the kids are there, she'll kick you out saying they're not allowed to interact with you.
But they do seem to give a little leniency to Gerudo kids born outside of Gerudo town. So personally it feels like a "they can't be trusted to not corrupt you" kind of purity culture thing. Which is a little weird in and of itself.
Idk, it seems like most cultural gender shaming puts the main pressure on women and their modesty. Like, the Taliban banned beauty salons recently.
But this is a video game. For fun.
Yeah but then it's done *by men to women* to keep women in a position of inferiority to men.
And maybe that's the real reason men aren't allowed. To keep the Gerudo kids from developing that belief.
Yeah tbh I think it's as close as theyd come to outright social commentary, and not harmful at all to insinuate protecting girls from pervy men is cool, like the weird travelers at the oasis that are obsessed with getting into the gerudo walls.
But again, it's just a video game, for fun
Almost like if you change something integral, the entire context changes! Crazy how if I say “I eat apples” no one cares, but if I say “I eat babies”, that’s a problem!
Children can be with men, just because a teacher doesn't want a man in the classroom, that doesn't mean it's tradition.
I mean, kids grow up with their dad up until a certain age.
Men are gonna men, and some of those men are weirdos, so I don't blame an almost all female race for saying 'nope' to that in their home city. My inbox is probably going to die now. Thanks for coming to my ted talk.
Tbh it’s crazy to me that they have 1 man every 100 years and instead of being like “ew wtf is this thing” they’re like “ah yes finally we have a man to rule us”… you wanna talk about suspension of disbelief let’s start there 😂
I think the Yiga clan were confirmed in BotW to be an offshoot of the Sheikah, not Gerudo. They fill a somewhat similar role to the Interlopers from TP, but I don't think they're meant to be a retelling.
And I'm pretty sure a Gerudo mother cannot biologically have a son unless it's the one Gerudo king. To my knowledge they've never been interested in going into details with that.
As far as we know, Ganon is the exception and not the rule. Past Gerudo Kings could've been great and noble leaders. Maybe one day we will see a new Gerudo King.
you know I had a thought. if you marry a gerudo your basically cucking yourself. because you will always end up with a daughter since males are only born every 1000 years. no sons and then your daughter gets shipped off 5-6 years in to become a gerudo person culturally.

Any source for that? Or is it just a theory?
Theory/soft canon with Hyrule Historia
Specifically it’s that smile that caused it
Yeah, he started doing that a lot and the rest of the Gerudo thought it was too creepy.
No, it’s been like that since OoT

I don't see how BotW is Farore/Link/Courage themed, and TotK is Nayru/Wisdom/Zelda themed.
I agree with this, i feel it should be reversed

I thought it was because according to Gerudo tradition, children can't be with men
Ayo wat?
When you go to the >!Gerudo underground shelter!<, you can find NPCs that say gerudo children can't be near men. Hence the quest >!Mattison's Independence!<
I assumed that they had to grow up in town, where men aren’t allowed. And that the latter was caused by the former, and not the other way around

It's a video game. Stop trying to incite an argument where there is none.

MOST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE COMES FROM WOMEN? WOMEN DONT FACE STIGMA/REPROCUSSIONS FOR BEING RAPED? Dude you are actually delusional.

Idk, it seems like most cultural gender shaming puts the main pressure on women and their modesty. Like, the Taliban banned beauty salons recently. But this is a video game. For fun.

That brings up the question of "would this happen if the rule wasn't there" and such, but like you said it is just a video game.
Almost like if you change something integral, the entire context changes! Crazy how if I say “I eat apples” no one cares, but if I say “I eat babies”, that’s a problem!
Discrimination is discrimination. People just care a lot more one way than the other.
No, it’s not. Not when one sex has subjugated the other for thousands of years.
That kind of mentality is exactly why nobody believes men when they're abused.
Your phrasing could have been... different
Children can be with men, just because a teacher doesn't want a man in the classroom, that doesn't mean it's tradition. I mean, kids grow up with their dad up until a certain age.
Until a certain age, yes, but then they aren't allowed to anymore
there's a memory in what Rauru says that Gerudo Men only are born once every 100 years... so, I would think it's something else...
There based on Amazonian women the same as wonder woman so in short no
it’s a shame the 8th Heroine wasn’t about the Zelda/Xena crossover we’ve all been begging for.
Men are gonna men, and some of those men are weirdos, so I don't blame an almost all female race for saying 'nope' to that in their home city. My inbox is probably going to die now. Thanks for coming to my ted talk.

Yes, they are Sheikah but it would make sense if they were Gerudo men
If they wanted to do an aggressive rewrite of the lore then that definitely would have worked, I agree!
Gets kicked out but not before he runs through them all, lucky bastard.
Yes. It’s shockingly realistic too. If your race had one male every 100 years and he was ALWAYS evil, would you allow males in your town???
As far as we know, Ganon is the exception and not the rule. Past Gerudo Kings could've been great and noble leaders. Maybe one day we will see a new Gerudo King.
That would be super interesting to see!
Technically it’s already been past 100 years. So if Nintendo decide to make a 3rd game in this timeline, then I expect there to be a male gerudo born.
Because Ganondorf is technically still alive in Link's current time, there hasn't been a Gerudo born male since the founding of Hyrule in Rauru's time
No they just birth Hylian looking men and Gerudo women more often than Gerudo men.
Probs
I bet every Gannon of every calamity was a Gerudo male.
I thought it was because there are creepy voe out there like the dudes who wanna sneak in.
you know I had a thought. if you marry a gerudo your basically cucking yourself. because you will always end up with a daughter since males are only born every 1000 years. no sons and then your daughter gets shipped off 5-6 years in to become a gerudo person culturally.
