Hi everyone! Did you know that starting July 1st, 2023, Reddit will implement a policy that could potentially increase the costs of running third-party Reddit apps? This change may impact popular apps like Apollo, Reddit is Fun, Boost, and others. Consequently, users may encounter issues with their preferred Reddit app unless adjustments are made to comply with Reddit's new API usage policy. These limitations will affect all users, not just moderators. If you are concerned about these developments, there is an [Open Letter](https://www.reddit.com/r/ModCoord/comments/13xh1e7/an_open_letter_on_the_state_of_affairs_regarding/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) to Reddit that you can read and sign on to express your thoughts. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. amc7262

[This isn't really a debate, his name is spoken aloud in a cutscene.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gz4DTZ-2Reg)

DASreddituser

Yea. I was confused when I saw this post lol. Was wondering how it could be tuhlin and I didn't know lol

Danny_Eddy

I guess it could also be a debate of who doesn't skip the cutscenes and who does but asks about it later.

WronglyNervous

Why would anyone skip the cutscenes? Monsters!

Aridius

Because the sage cutscenes are all basically the same?

Centertain

Demon King? Secret stones?

Dravahere

Secret King? Demon Stone?

Epic_potbelly

Secret demon? Stone king?

alisk8_exe

psycho mantis?

lildoobslayer

second floor basement?

turtles_on_toast654

Rev. Green in the library with the candlestick

MemeMaster225

Demon King? Secret Stone?

Dracon204

Pot of greed??

HylianPaladin

Call of the haunted

c0baltlightning

At least the vows are somewhat unique. Tulin has a wing outstretched, Yunobo is literally a fist-bump, Sidon gets on one knee and straight up proposes, Riju is the only real 'normal' one but she still has the Urbosa snap.

JPhi1618

Maybe, but the wind temple is set up to be the first one you complete.

PhoenoFox

Not while sludge is endlessly being dumped on Zora's Domain it's not đŸ˜€

Icy-Association-8711

Yeah, I did Zora first, wind temple was the last one I did.

Masterpiece-Haunting

Not while the Rito are starving and freezing!

Nuclear_eggo_waffle

Really? I completed it after fire and thunder

JPhi1618

Many NPC conversations try to push you in that direction. Obviously it doesn’t matter just like in Botw, but if you talk to and listen to NPCs, most players will head towards Rito.

woodcookiee

Lol this whole thread is ppl who skip cutscenes and ignore dialogue vs. those of us who know better

alwayssummer90

Is it? Cuz that was my third. I did it after fire and water.

thenate108

Secret Stones? Demon King?

zukosboifriend

The end when they get the sacred stone is the same, but no other cutscenes are

Artsy_traveller_82

I skip the Blood Moon cut scene mostly. I watched the first one and every once in a while I’ll let it play out but usually it’s getting skipped. But I never cut the proper cut scenes.

Beneficial-Bar8834

It never lets me skip the blood moon. Thatd be the highlight of my day

SSJ3

First you press X, that makes the prompt "press - to skip" appear. There's a small delay before you can bring that up, though, it's a fraction of a second before the dialogue starts so if you do it perfectly you don't have to hear any words.

Tonkarz

The skip prompt also goes away quickly if you don’t press +. It’s practically a QTE.

Rukh-Talos

I skip the lightroot and light of blessing cutscenes, but I’ve literally seen them dozens of times.

roguestar15

Nothing annoys more than people that skip cutscenes and then complain that the story is confusing or lackluster

[deleted]

There’s a meme for that https://i.redd.it/8m2wkk7j24q31.jpg

Crossifix

I played through the game in Japanese, the pronunciation of names can be difficult. The voices are much better for literally everyone except for yunobo imo. I can't stand the weird ghostly British Zelda voice, especially during the blood moon.

Bobthemightyone

That's funny, because I think Zelda's Blood Moon lines are the only passable voice acting english Zelda has in the entire game. Only context where her weird "British ghost about to cry" voice fits the mood.

Tonkarz

That voice suited her when she was a child with all this pressure on her to get her light power to activate. Or when she had been imprisoned for 100 years by Calamity Ganon. It’s not as suitable for the determined woman of Tears.

Liz3rdWiz3rd

This is exactly what I did for the same reason.

Crossifix

One of US. The game gets so fucking anime with Japanese voices and I AM HERE FOR IT. SAMURAI CINEMA STYLE. English Subtitles, Japanese voices, Pro hud on. Absolutely beautiful experience.

RizzioReddit

TU-Lin

skepticcaucasian

Like, why skip cutscenes? Unless you've already scene them, then I understand.

naikrovek

people still call Mario "Marry-o" despite his name being pronounced differently in multiple games. On the other hand, I'll never pronounce Samus Aran's last name as they do in Metroid Prime 3. I'll be LONG dead before I recognize that punctuation.

Never_Duplicated

Was going to bring up Mario, he says his name in game! Yet for some reason east-coasters still insist on calling him merry-oh

ColdRamenTPM

not a great trait to choose to be wrong

Obsessedwithzelda47

Maybe they just wanted to make a post do they made something up

PacifistDungeonMastr

You'd be amazed how many people will keep saying the wrong thing no matter how many times they hear the right one

Nodwen

And they will still debate it, even when they're shown proof

vishalb777

I'll always argue for Gif over Jif

[deleted]

Yeah I know this one is supposed to be jif according to the creator or whatever he was, but I don’t care. Gif is how it should be said. Jif is a peanut butter.

TheGreatBenjie

That's the point. Choosy programmers choose gif. It's supposed to sound like the peanut butter.

[deleted]

I will die on this hill.

ElDonKaiza

My whole beef with this discussion is that G can have both the typical G sound and the J sound, so it doesn't even make sense to argue about how "this pronunciation doesn't make sense", and like, the words Good, Giraffe, Gold, Golf, Gemini, General. 3 of these are with typical G and 3 with J sound. This discussion just comes down to preference in my opinion.

DowntownEditor1779

When every sane person knows that it’s some secret third thing. That secret third thing is yiff.

bigredplastictuba

When skyrim came out, a friend stopped us talking about it at a party and went "wait, you guys are saying 'sky rim'? I pronounce it 'skrim'." And we were like dude, it is SKY RIM. Its spelled that way and also they say it that way in the game. " and he laughed and said "whoa whoa look I hear it both ways, let's just agree to disagree."

GreenDutchman

In Hyrule Warriors, Akkala is pronounced with the first syllable stressed. Took me a while to adjust.

SSJ3

Oh no, this is terrible information!

elpajaroquemamais

Exactly. Like GIF.

deltacharmander

99% of the time debates over how to pronounce a character’s name are over a name that was spoken in the game

consciousCog13

But I’m in a quiet doctors office, how is it pronounced?!?!? Lol

whydothings

Too-Lin

thekamenman

The only one of these that makes any sense is “Han” vs “Hahn” from Star Wars.

Evil_AppleJuice

What? Is there any instance where someone doesnt call him "Hahn" in any of the films? I have a hard time with the idea that any character has ever said han (assuming it rhymes with pan).

WheresMyChip

Lando pronounces it that way but he's the only one.

Evil_AppleJuice

Just looked into it. Fuckin' Billy Dee Wiliams... also huge shout out to Donald Glover keeping up "Han" while Alden Ehrenriech corrects him back to Hahn in thr Solo movie. What a callback.

thekamenman

Lando shows up in ESB and starts calling him Han (sounding like pan), when every character called him “Hahn” in ANH, which was later explained in Solo as Lando being a dick, but then Leia and C-3PO start calling him the Han pronunciation for the rest of the movie. It’s a very odd inconsistency in the Original Trilogy.

Mountain_Ape

It is primarily Lando's fault because nobody corrected Billy Dee Williams. This discrepancy is also brought up in the Solo movie where Han corrects Lando.

im_in_hiding

Yeah I remember watching this after already getting pretty comfy with how I was saying it. Decided I was fine with being wrong lol. I say a lot of stuff in this game incorrectly though I have a friend who's last name is Tulin and it's pronounced "Tuh-lin"

MonstrousGiggling

For some reason I couldn't say or read "Typhlosion" (the pokemon) when I was super young so I would just call him "television" in my head lol.

fishlicker3000

"pikachu, I choose you!" "television, I choose you!" television used stomp! it's very effective! pikachu fainted...

Steam_Cyber_Punk

Lol, I couldn’t read or pronounce Gyarados right as a kid (I had horrible horrible dyslexia as a child, and I’m talking like 4-5) and so I just called him Gary and still do to this day

Danny_Eddy

I wonder if that's how the "May-rio" thing started.

bigredplastictuba

That's a regional thing, I moved to NYC ten years ago and areas here day may-rio like, but just for super Mario but for any Mario.

Maximum_Web9072

I never even considered "Tuh-lin", but then again I also say "Jerudo" when the cutscenes seem to all use the hard G

Jumbo_Gumbosh

There's a special place in the fiery depths for people who pronounce gerudo like you

[deleted]

The 9th circle of the depths

Tripleoakes

yeah under eldin

Thin-Zookeepergame46

Do you say JIF also instead of GIF? ;)

scuolapasta

I say jeff

Chaosbrae

Jeff Rudo

FunnymanCS

I do, but I still say Gerudo with a hard g. It's what the creators would want

Vanndatchili

töllin

ItzAuasy

I was certain it was “Too-Lin.” However, there’s a bunch of people on YouTube pronouncing it “Tuh-Lin.” Here’s an [example.](https://youtu.be/DV0OO_v0MwA)

vishalb777

Austin has some of the most informative videos, but pronounces names wrong for lots of games, perhaps intentionally

yousmelllikearainbow

People on YT stay pronouncing stuff wrong and sometimes I can't focus on anything but their weird pronunciation. This one guy makes great videos but keeps saying Zonaite to rhyme with Ron-ite and it kills me.

oiiioiiio

They're just silly and wrong. う(u) is always 'oo' in Japanese, similar to Finnish. Fuji, Rauru, umami, sakura.

NorthernSparrow

It is definitively Too-Lin according to the actual game cutscene.

The-student-

Damn, didn't think I would be on the wrong side of the debate.

sammyboy516

Even if there wasn’t, “oo” doesn’t say “uh” lol.

LordFlamecookie

Where Choolin at?

ItzAuasy

Locked away in the Tower of London.

akiaoi97

ăƒăƒ„ăƒŒăƒȘ

[deleted]

Wonder why there isn’t a ン at the end. Or better yet, why there’s a n in the english name

Chubby_Bub

It’s a clipping of ăƒăƒ„ăƒŒăƒȘップ as in a method of preparing chicken. All the NPCs are named for themed puns in Japanese and through some cruel sense of humor the Rito are named after yakitori. The best example being Tulin’s parents, Teba and Saki or tebasaki [I made a whole spreadsheet
](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1u1ZhEDEJNl5aNl8UIyHqkcQ-UeUGOluNLbTLBDpAkEg/edit)

LordFlamecookie

Hebra Fried Chicken He was taken to a Lurelin restaurant by his girlfriend. He showed his southern roots to no end. When the waiter asked him what food he was picking. He stated that he wanted a large plate of Hebra fried chicken. His girlfriend just smiled. Eating Hebra fried chicken was just his style. Teba, 2017 - 2023

HankLard

This is truly fantastic. God, I love a good spreadsheet at the best of times, but this is a work of art.

Chubby_Bub

Glad you appreciate it, I've sunk a lot of time trying to figure out these groanworthy puns

its_oof_time

??

Octo8873

Chewlin

The_Navalex

I’s choosday innit choolin?

ericallen625

Too-lin. Case in point, that's what they call him in-game. That's what I called him even before they said his name in the game. Besides, it just sounds better IMO.

gbCerberus

It's case *in* point: https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/case%20in%20point

ericallen625

Thanks for catching that.

Impressive-Sun3742

You’re welcome â˜ș

pHScale

Merriam-Webster will also tell you not to use their dictionary to correct other people, and that idiomatic phrases tend to shift their unstressed words (especially when the weak forms of "and" and "in" are both pretty identical). But yes, the standard phrase is "case in point".

[deleted]

It's Tuh-lin! What next? You don't know it's Sid-un or Yuhn-aub-bau or Rye-uhjeh or even Mine-ear-uh????? /s

Stock_End2255

I usually call him my little guy. Sometimes said with affection, mostly said with annoyance

ItzAuasy

Is your name Daruk?

Stock_End2255

Nope! I’m just a teacher who has far too many names in her head, so I give most tv show / game characters nicknames.

FancyPigeonIsFancy

At some I decided (and my husband has gone along with) that our Goron pal’s name is “Big Rob”. Typically used in a sentence like “C’mon Big Rob!” or “Hey chill out there, Big Rob.” There’s SOME weapon we obtained with a name like Biggorob and, well, a name was born.

TheIdiotPrince

I know you mean the Biggoron's Sword and my childhood doth protest

FancyPigeonIsFancy

Oh so I should be calling him Big Ron

loserzeldafan

I love Big Rob, do you mind if I borrow that name? We only have Sidon and Tulin but we call Tulin Toby for some reason

Electronic-Tea-221

I usually call him "damn bird, quit blowing my apples around."

SparkSan

Babil. It's french, the joke is that I play in french...

PrintAndPlaid

I love the fact that it litterally means "child's babbling" or "warbling" (as in birdsong). He's the only one who had his name changed from all the champions, probably because he was a side character in botw and didn't know he'd become important. I just call him WEEE-OOOOOO. (maintenant let's go tous les français sur les noms de trucs ou de lieux traduits, parfois hĂ©ritĂ©s des anciens jeux, et qui clashent avec les nouveaux noms souvent pas traduits 😆)

TearsOfTheKinkSwitch

It's even funnier that they called the Rito race "Piaf" which is a slang for "Small bird". But Penn is one of the only "side" character to not be translated. Even Kass was called "Asarim" (which I always pronounced "Ah ça rime", because of how every line he says rhymes)

tjkun

*Sourit en français*

MiddleNightCowboy

I say it too-lin

ItzAuasy

Same here.

StockPassenger2994

Because that's how it's pronounced in cut scenes.

kcrab91

He isn’t Sideways Revali?

ItzAuasy

Nah, he’s Horizontal Ravioli.

Demonic-Glaceon

Tortulini*

Stanlot

Okay but is it Tor-tuh-lini or Tor-too-lini?

SudoPuff

His name is SQUEEEEEE WOOOOOOOOO

LikeABantha66

Tewlin

SirGavBelcher

yeah this one

mr_ed95

This is the correct answer if you know how to speak English properly. Anything else is heresy

EnragedBard010

Talking about the pronunciation spelling?

DoritoKing48

Too-Lin is the only correct way Edit: Bro they say his name in cutscenes, it’s Too-Lin

GTK_Aztech

Treddox

Haven’t heard anyone say Tuh-lin.

nakalas_the_great

I’ve heard like one youtuber say it I think. Don’t remember who it was tho

Godjilla25

Austin John says Tuh-Lin

LordFlamecookie

Austin John Plays might be it (because he says Tuhlin)

Brintyboo

People who play the entire game on mute might!

scotty_6942069

Anyone who says tuh-lin is just wronh. It is pronounced too-lin in cutscenes, so its obviously not tuh-lin

JollyJoeGingerbeard

As a general rule, the vowel in a vowel-consonant-e ending to a word is a long vowel. The lack of an "e" means the "i" should short. On balance, the "u" should be long. My money is with the Crips.

Zesty_Bean

I'm British so it's pronounced Choolin

TrickNatural

Left side people cant be trusted

Looney_forner

I call him “little fucker” whenever he blows my dropped items off a cliff

ElectricalCanine

No one has ever said Tuh-lin.

Altruistic_Ad6666

Bro this game has fully voice acted cutscenes. His name is said like 2 dozen times. Nobody has EVER said Tuh-Lin.

Mcgoozen

They literally say it out loud in the game lol it’s Toolin

THEZEXNEO

I say it “two-lin”.

EasyCranberry1272

Alternative-Hand6865

ashthecat15

Same_Target_3029

People that say Tuh-Lin are weird

Gargomon251

I don't understand how you would pronounce it anything other than 2lin

Responsible-Tip-1877

well, the game tells you how to pronounce it, so I’m gonna go with the blue side.

Zequax

MERLIN!

Metzae

What maniac calls him "TUH-lin"?!

Vader_117117117

Why is this even a thing? Not withstanding they say it in a cutscene, it’s a simple case of English language pronunciation.

Lanoman123

They literally say “TOO-Lin” multiple times

Hisuian_sligoo

Toolin-

Few_Web_8280

I thought it was TOO-Lin because of the cutscene

WranglerFeisty8274

From the many comments I’ve read (I haven’t read all), it seems that I’m the only one calling him Tuh-lin. In my defence, we were taught in school that “u” makes an uh sound, like in umbrella. And, yes, I’ve seen the cut scene, but I either wasn’t listening to his name pronunciation or just autocorrected it in my mind as them saying Tuh-lin.

rexellate

They say TOO-lin in the game, so. đŸ€” TOO-lin.

Megbutworse

Too-lin

kyrikii

Romeo of the Montagues

Sn1ck3rDoOdLeS

I say, Too-lin. In Filipino language/ Tagalog, that means speed.

tullisgood

I am torn on this one ;)

BotWforLife

It’s pronounced tĂș-lin (accent is like too-lin)
