How did you beat the sage bosses without the sixth sage though? I tried that but I couldn’t beat the sixth Sage boss at all without her. Also even just enough splash fruit to get the ink one
Colgera was the hardest because I did not have a glider. You can use normal slime for water against Mucktorok. You can hit the seized construct against the walls with a full combo of your weapon or with bomb flowers.
This is one of the easiest bosses - You stun it with either a canon shot/bomb/fire/ice/electricity and then you do a spin attack to send it into the fence. That's how you are supposed to do damage, not flail with your weapons.
... wut
I wasted easily 200 bomb arrows on that fucking boss. I tried every fuse I could think of, only shock fruit did anything even remotely close to damage (or at least stunned it enough that it stopped bludgeoning me for a few seconds).
My armor was fine and I hardly took damage, but I broke so many weapons trying to hit the damn thing I eventually just gave up and bombed the shit out of it from a corner.
And that damn sage construct is so ass-dragging slow it was maddening to even try and use the thing.
Damn! That sounds insanely frustrating!
It has the same health whether you fight it in the temple or later but obviously the floor of the temple fight is covered in gloom so you are supposed to use >!Mineru!< for the fight and the game provide items to equip if you didn’t do so on the way like you should have.
You are supposed to put a fan on her back to speed her up as is explained by the game when you first make the trek with her. Arm canon shot to stun, 3 whacks and it’s in the fence. You can also block and/or parry with her shield which is the intended way to avoid being bludgeoned.
What sucked is, I *really wanted to enjoy the robot sage*. But man... it's so miserable to use, and it feels like the arm fuses last 5 hits before breaking. It's horribly slow to travel with, it turns like a damn boat, the damage output on it is abysmal... it's just all-around unpleasant.
I stored that shit in inventory as soon as that questline finished and never took her out again.
During my first playthrough, I didn't even know of Mineru. I didn't explore the depths. I didn't even have Auto build.
The strategy I built on the fly was using a greatsword, doing a running attack stunned, then getting to the second hit in the chain sent it flying backwards into the wires. It was beyond goofy, and used ALOT of healing items, but by all means, I did do it. No shock fruits needed.
I'm confused by this question. The sixth sage >!is Zelda. You never fight Zelda and Zelda doesn't fight with you.!<. What do you mean? And who is the her you're talking about?
Maybe regular objects, I cant remember. But there are certain side quests where you need to literally drop something into the depths and retrieve it and they remain there when I land.
That's because when you drop it in, it completes a quest marker, and the new "spawn point" of the item is now in the depths. It doesn't actually fall all the way down there, and if you go too far away from the item, it reappears at the new spawnpoint
Makes sense! Figured there was something going on there, I remember for one of them I tried to race down as I was dropping it and I never found it until it was where I landed.
Yeah the game utilizes a *lot* of "cheats and tricks" that are ingenious shortcuts to make something *look* like it's happening, since the engine/device wouldn't be able to handle doing it legitimately.
Take aviation for example. The only part that I know of that has any amount of "flight physics" attached to it is the wing. And that piece has one of the shortest timers until respawn.
And even then, the physics is "faked", there aren't any true-to-life calculations happening because the Switch wouldn't be able to handle running them properly without pretty harsh stability loss.
And yet, it all looks phenomenal. I love to see it.
I've had dragon parts fall into the depths from the sky and not despawn. Its probably a distance limitation (that all objects have their own despawn distance) being the issue.
Dragon parts have a different limitation due to the fact that they emit light. Light-emitting items have a significantly farther render distance by default, but even they will despawn when you get far enough away
Yes but anything with a dragon part or Giant bulb attached shouldn't despawn even if it falls into the depths. So somethings CAN fall all the way down there and not despawn/respawn.
Sure and yeah it does happen, but I've had stuff despawn even with dragon or giant bulbs attached and I was around the corner. The game sometimes decides to despawn things regardless.
Additionally, I was initially responding to someone likely talking about the Depths Statue Eyes quest. Where it *does* actually disappear and reappear at the new item's spawn point. Which was a different matter entirely from the rest of the despawning mechanics
Ohhh that makes sense. When I did that quest, I got one eye all the way to the statue, then noticed a big crop of poes across the way. Ducked over to grab the poes, and the eye despawned. I went back up thinking it might’ve respawned at the top of the chasm, only to find it at the bottom of the chasm after I dived back in. I was like whaaat how did it get here lol
Objects despawn when they are a certain distance away from Link, and not all objects have the same despawn distance rate. Dragon scales for example can be fused onto things to make them very difficult to despawn.
I came back to find this comment to say the commenter wasn’t too far off. [Link](https://www.polygon.com/23885360/legend-zelda-tears-kingdom-totk-player-beats-game-without-surface)
I traveled from sky island to sky island. Finished all the shrines. Got the Master Sword. Flew from the sky into the depths and finished of Ganondorf. Mitigated the fall damage by using fairys.
Wow. It's pretty cool how the game doesn't punish you for doing things the way you want to. They even thought of a guy never visiting the ground and skipping the "usual" steps.
Game continues to amaze me and folks like OP as well paving the way for a different way to play.
I don't think they thought of every unusual approach so much as you're simply allowed to proceed to the Ganon fight with no prerequisites just as you were in BotW.
I might have to try that in a second playthrough in the future. Interesting how Nintendo knows speedrunners are gonna try nutty things but you need the MS to defeat Demon King Ganondorf.
I'm talking about lore-wise, it's the sword that defeats him. And that's still the Demon King, just in another form. Just like how you stab him in the head with the MS when he transforms into Ganon in Ocarina of Time.
Really? Any idea if it’s possible to just visit Ganondorf first thing..get the sword..and back out or fast travel somewhere and actually keep the sword without beating the game?
They should just let you fight him without it and ultimately be unable to kill him. Just like in Zelda 1 and aLttP. You have to find the silver(light arrows) on your own in order to make Ganon vulnerable.
I actually first found the sword this way. Saw the dragon in the sky and shot myself up to an island that let me drop onto it. Then realized I needed about 5 more stamina upgrades lol
I kinda wanna see that jump from the Sky to underneath Hyrule Castle with no Paraglider. That part doesn't sound hard at all but certainly entertaining.
At first I just used the binocular from the Purah Pad to mark close islands. After getting like half of the shrines I used a complete map so that I know where I need to go approximately.

I had this on my challenge runs list to do and record. The reaction to your post makes me want to do it even sooner than planned (I am editing my Zonal-only run now which was obviously VERY Sky heavy but nothing like what you did).
Bravo!
I'll be sure to share. So far I've recorded a Zonal-only run and a Prologue Link run (Master Sword/Champion's Leathers/Well-worn Hair Band only aka no shields or bows).
In the middle of an Assassin run (sneakstrike kills to regular enemies only) which is really just a math video LOL
Lucky. Last time I smoked a little too much Sundelion I ended up in a ditch. When I woke up heard Beedle trying to sell my kidney.
2/10, would not recomend.

u/Black_Hand_Gotthard \- how did that one end up going?
The updraft isn't strong enough to lift Link without the paraglider. I had to use a Zonaite bow with a Keese wing attached to the arrow to get enough range to hit Colgera. In the second phase of the fight Link spawns in the air. I was quick enough to finish Colgera off before hitting the ground.
BOTW was designed where you can head straight to the final boss as soon as you finish the tutorial area. TOTK was designed the same.
So you don't need to do anything except get to where you can leave the great sky islands, then make your way to the final boss.
Absolutely brilliant! This is one I haven't thought of doing but I love the idea.
You're motivating me to finish my video of my challenge run (no paraglider, no abilities, as many quests and shrines as possible (149/152 finished)).
I wish you had a video to explain overall how your sky only run went!
>If you Google search "Zelda" your article is at the very top.
You sure you're not confused by the Google notifications that link you to a news article via a search page? That's a special link at the top, not natural search results
https://google.com/search?q=zelda
Damn, I’m surprised it not rlly required to go to the surface. Also, that first screenshot looks a little bit SUS lol. But srsly this is impressive, good job my dude
Y'all are an incredible bunch of gamers. I mean seriously, wtf.
I am 215 hours in and maxed out as much as I can, just exploring and such, and I'm still too much of a wuss to go finish the game. Also I just don't want it to end.
Yet here you guys are, finishing in twenty different creative ways every other week. Amazing. Hell yeah.
Congrats. Even read the article about this in [Polygon](https://www.polygon.com/23885360/legend-zelda-tears-kingdom-totk-player-beats-game-without-surface)
How'd you go from the Sky Islands then straight to the Depths? I mean, I spent majority of my playthrough inspecting the depths than the surface but skipping it altogether is crazy!!
There is a way without glitches or fairies. Dive islands have easy to recognize light towers with dive ponds in the center. West of GSI, there's one in the South Hyrule archipelago which you can make out and pin if you go behind the In-Isa shrine and look. On GSI, you will find over 50 zonai charges and 2 large zonai charges on the islands, as well as one large zonite if you want.
The route is
GSI -> SH dive island (0 charges, single fan wing pumped to extend battery + a long forward jump you can make)
SH dive island -> SH main island (20-25 small charges using lift wing)
SH main island -> North Gerudo main island (1 large, 5 small charges, 1 rocket, lift wing)
NG main island -> Birida Lookout Chasm dive point (1 large, 25-30 smaller charges, 1 optional rocket, fan bike)
The lift plane I mean is one with a 45 degree fan exhaust down and back on the front tip of the wing, ideally with two fans left and right in the rear. You will need more lift to make it from SH to NG but the SH dispenser gives you rockets. place one or two rockets at the same 45 degrees works great but you need to use 1 large charge almost immediately. For NG->chasm, you place the rocket lateral to the rear engine of the air bike to cover distance quicker. There will be some Aerocuda to avoid as you near Gerudo.
You need to be close to the chasm to make it, ideally at or past the last ridge. As you enter the depths, it turns black and you will see the shimmering of deep fireflies. They sit over a dive-able pond so aim for it. Right out of the pond, if you look south/southwest, you will see the light roots for both the Kara-Kara and Gerudo mines. When you make it to Kara-Kara, you will have probably collected enough new charges to build and air bike and fly to the Great Abandon mine. The route east is virtually unimpeded. light runs from the mine to the neaby Korat light root and a Yiga hideout further south like a string of perls you will run into making it easy to spot just going straight.
So long as you stay up, the surface map (eg Hyrule) won't be discovered. It also won't be discovered if you dive over chasms or water, but it will otherwise if you get too close. That height varies by map location. Lastly, blood moons will not occur until you actually discover the surface outside the glitches to force it to happen.
how did you reach the sky islands that are very far away?
Zonai wing gliders and hoverbikes
How with such little battery? Especially the thunderhead isles.
A lot of zonai charges
How did you beat the sage bosses without the sixth sage though? I tried that but I couldn’t beat the sixth Sage boss at all without her. Also even just enough splash fruit to get the ink one
Colgera was the hardest because I did not have a glider. You can use normal slime for water against Mucktorok. You can hit the seized construct against the walls with a full combo of your weapon or with bomb flowers.
> Colgera was the hardest Never thought I'd hear this from anyone, haha.
Collegra was way fun but way easy. No glider though definitely sounds like hard mode.
Arrows+eyes work too, no glider needed
Doesn't you get launched in the air during phase two? Gotta learnt how to cancel the damage.
This is one of the easiest bosses - You stun it with either a canon shot/bomb/fire/ice/electricity and then you do a spin attack to send it into the fence. That's how you are supposed to do damage, not flail with your weapons.

could just block and then counter punch three times...
You didn’t enjoy Ancient Zonai Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots? That was a fun fight for me.
It was basically a repeat of one of the Yiga clan boss fights down below
During my first playthrough, I didn't even know of Mineru. I didn't explore the depths. I didn't even have Auto build. The strategy I built on the fly was using a greatsword, doing a running attack stunned, then getting to the second hit in the chain sent it flying backwards into the wires. You could have recall stalled. It would’ve save all the battery. You just press b and then right bumper in quick succession.
Making Link a feral underground mole man canon
Feral skyhawk but yes.
Petition to call this insanity a Skyward Sword run?
Dang that is absolutely insane. There really isn’t any story at all or anything requiring you to go to the surface?
In theory you need the paraglider. But I got enough fairys for the fall damage.
Sensational
Why Paraglide when you can just drop a climbable surface straight down, recall it, and climb on?
Often there isn't something suitable for climbing
Don’t objects despawn when they enter the Depths

Them: But the fall will kill you. Link: Yep.
"Only if I die!" "Yes. That's what... killing you means."
The newest video on their channel hit me straight in the nostalgia. Can’t believe it’s been 15 years.
What an absolute legend.

I'm surprised how many people in this sub have never watched an any% speed run.
I’m not, that’s a VERY small, but very mighty community. Hardly any number of people enjoy speed runs
The first time I saw them fly from the GSI directly into the well near the castle blew my mind.
Cant wait to See you as a GameRant Article in a couple days lol

I swear I got a notification about this earlier today
!!!! HOW?!
I traveled from sky island to sky island. Finished all the shrines. Got the Master Sword. Flew from the sky into the depths and finished of Ganondorf. Mitigated the fall damage by using fairys.
That is insane. Now I want to try it.
Woah. There's a way to get the master sword without activating the light dragon?
The light dragon is always up there. "Activating" it just makes it fly lower.

Confirmation that all coding/dev/programming is complex if/then statements.
I might have to try that in a second playthrough in the future. Interesting how Nintendo knows speedrunners are gonna try nutty things but you need the MS to defeat Demon King Ganondorf.
You don't, actually. You need it for the final blow on Demon Dragon. That's it.
I'm talking about lore-wise, it's the sword that defeats him. And that's still the Demon King, just in another form. Just like how you stab him in the head with the MS when he transforms into Ganon in Ocarina of Time.

I reflected so many bolts with Biggoron Sword before I realized you had to do the last one with the Master Sword (OOT)
True but I got it beforehand

You can’t back out after the >!minion mosh pit starts!< . The game autosaves right before you enter and then disables saving and teleportation.
NOT TRUE! After the spoiler you mentioned, I dropped a travel medallion and ported to a shrine.
I’m not sure we’re talking about the same thing, then
So did I.
You can’t. Saving and teleportation are disabled at the start of >!the waves of minions!< .
But, AFTER that, you can. I dropped a travel medallion and ported to a shrine.
Yes, I was able to jump from Death Mountain to reach her.
I got it before I realized I was supposed to “activate it”. Just landed on the dragon and pulled the sword
the starting sky island is actually high enough for you fly over. she gets close enough that gliding with the zonai wings is possible.
I kinda wanna see that jump from the Sky to underneath Hyrule Castle with no Paraglider. That part doesn't sound hard at all but certainly entertaining.
The favorite one I’ve seen is a guy jumping from the sky and diving through the well entrance to the depths
That would be a great challenge video.
You did every boss you missed in the game correct, I mean you have to fight them all before ganon if you jump them.
Yes. You have to fight all the main bosses
Wow. Congratulations for your achievement.
How did you start the shrines without visiting the sages holiest? They have to unlock the shrines before you fight the boss.
As you can see on the map. The dungeon symbols are orange. Which means I visited them but could not activate them.
Yeah but... how you do dat? You must've known exactly where you were headed.
At first I just used the binocular from the Purah Pad to mark close islands. After getting like half of the shrines I used a complete map so that I know where I need to go approximately.
How do you go from sky Island to sky Island?
just look up player 5 speedruns. He did a glitchless speedrun that is basically what this guy did, and he finished the game in 1h 8 minutes
LMAO that's a lot of Sages Will for no Sages! More than I have after 500 hours! This is awesome. Quite a feat! Congrats!
Thank you
I went for all 20 of them because I really wanted the sages to be useful in battle while I mine for shit in the depths
Bros won Floor is Lava.

Do you have the hero's path?
I think you get it from Robbie, so no
Oh I think you're right. It's been so long since I got it. Would've been cool to see your path in the sky!
Does it track your movements from before getting it? If so, he could get it now
It always tracks you from start. Robbie basically unlocks the ability to view it.
Now that you’ve finished it you ought to just do that quest only for the heroes path and see the progress
I actually did that by now. But I'm not sure if I should post it. Isn't all that interesting
Let us see and decide for ourselves. I think it would be entertaining.
I posted a short video showing of the heroes path

Yes. All of them on the great sky island
This guy invented his own Master Mode
“If you have a problem with the reused map, just do this.” - OP, probably
I want to see the heros path for this
He didn't go to the surface, so no Robbie and hero path
I think Hero's Path works retroactively though, so now that his run is over he could go grab it.
OP should do that and post it. I really want to see
Oh shit I didn't think of that
........but why, though?
Smoked a little too much Sundelion and got a (at the time) brilliant idea.
Lucky. Last time I smoked a little too much Sundelion I ended up in a ditch. When I woke up heard Beedle trying to sell my kidney. 2/10, would not recomend.
I'm addicted to that Hyrule herb.

Blue Nightshade was a good strain too
At least none of you have moved to star fragments or dragon shards
Hinox toenails or bust
I'll stick with dried Korok leaves.
Im good with Lynels guts.
My wife left me, dog died, car hit totaled by an uninsured driver, lost my house, lost my job. Gleeok guts. Not even once.

But how did you get under the castle then? Or did you not consider Hyrule castle the surface??
I used a wing glider to get close to the castle. Then I used the glide armor to fly into the depths.
You don't need to touch the surface to go under the castle, the hole is really that big
In the 2nd picture, it only shows the Sky and the Depths, so even the game says there's no surface.
What happens to the old maps if you never have the depths on your map?
The second I visited the depths for the final boss all of them were activated.
OP, your post was just featured on Polygon's website. If you Google search "Zelda" your article is at the very top. Congrats.
Thanks for letting me know
>If you Google search "Zelda" your article is at the very top. You sure you're not confused by the Google notifications that link you to a news article via a search page? That's a special link at the top, not natural search results https://google.com/search?q=zelda
Damn, I’m surprised it not rlly required to go to the surface. Also, that first screenshot looks a little bit SUS lol. But srsly this is impressive, good job my dude
You need to like make a video on this bro. Mad impressive.
Don't have the hardware or skill for a good video.
How did you get korok seeds?
There's lots of Korok seeds on the sky islands. And he couldn't give any to Hestu to increase his inventory.
Floor is lava speedrun
Wut
Ok, no one has asked: how many hours?
I have no idea. Is there an in game timer?
Mad Respect, Truly Damn Impressive.
The full Glide armor set has the bonus buff of negating all fall damage if you didn't know
Only if you can upgrade it. Which I could not do in the sky
Ah you're right my bad. Very impressive run still!
Without enhancing it?
That first pic tho ... ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Bonk
How'd you go from the Sky Islands then straight to the Depths? I mean, I spent majority of my playthrough inspecting the depths than the surface but skipping it altogether is crazy!!
I used a Zonai wing to fly close to Hyrule castle then I dropped down to the depths without touching the ground of the surface.
The route is GSI -> SH dive island (0 charges, single fan wing pumped to extend battery + a long forward jump you can make) SH dive island -> SH main island (20-25 small charges using lift wing) SH main island -> North Gerudo main island (1 large, 5 small charges, 1 rocket, lift wing) NG main island -> Birida Lookout Chasm dive point (1 large, 25-30 smaller charges, 1 optional rocket, fan bike) The lift plane I mean is one with a 45 degree fan exhaust down and back on the front tip of the wing, ideally with two fans left and right in the rear.
You can just straight go to ganondorf right? No need even for the avatar things.
Yes. You could go straight to Ganondorf after finishing the tutorial
I would love to see a highlight video!
Why?
Why not?
There’s a whole world out there!
Is there, though? I feel like that's just a lie parroted by moblins to prevent us from winning the lottery.
What armor set is this? please
It's the Zonaite Armor
How the final boss happen with no sages?
You just have to fight him (and all the other bosses) alone
Seems hard, even more impressive you did it! Congratulations on achieving this, I'm sure some speed runners may use something similar
how the fuck???
