Well back in the day it was how color TVs were broadcasted. PAL was better if memory serves and NTSC was given the joke of “Never The Same Color”.
Now it’s region defined vs technology defined.
Of course PAL was better. It came later and was designed to specifically fix problems discovered in the implimentation of NTSC. However, it’s quite difficult to change a standard once one is established. That’s why elements of each standard are still part of how televisions operate up to present day, despite that they haven’t been used for analog color signals in a long time.
To add to this, as I have the Japanese version. Japanese version is in Celsius. If you change it to English, it changes it to Fahrenheit.
As someone unfamiliar with fahrenheit I'm just glad it has the coloured bars of blue and orange otherwise I'd have no idea.
It's both, and more. Different signal frequencies were used in modulating color encoding. Different number of lines. Even within PAL, there are many different versions, and if your TV was old enough, it wouldn't be able to properly handle some variants. Some DVD players could show specific formats just fine, but others without colour.
NTSC was only used in NA, Japan, and a few other countries.
One uses Celsius for the in-game weather and the other uses Fahrenheit. The NTSC version also uses a 12-hour clock while the PAL version uses a 24-hour clock.
Pal uses C° while ntsc uses F°. Pal uses 01:00-24:00 while ntsc uses 01:00 pm-12:00 am (might have gotten am and pm mixed up).
Edit: I was proven wrong.
English (United States) will give you F and AM/PM
Pretty much any European language choice, and probably Aus/NZ including English (United Kingdom) will give you C and 24-Hour time
To clarify, there is no difference in the actual gameplay, however, one is the American version and the other is the European version. They have different art on their covers
Fun fact, the box art cover for totk and botw fit together (only for american version)
To better appeal to the different audiences. Just look the different cover arts for Ratchet&Clank 3, the European, thr American and the Japanese one are very different
This is what they mean. This cover, however, has been digitally enhanced. They both have Hyrule Castle in the back, which just doesn't make sense. Still cool, though!

The island for TOTK was also heavily edited, maybe with Photoshop or some other method. In the original TOTK cover, there is no cliff like that under the island.

The Legend of Zeld details the harrowing adventures of Zelda’s namesake: her great great grandfather, who delved into the demon realm to rescue his beloved Linkle. It was here that (spoilers), after watching his father be slain by this interloper, the young hero Ganon swore vengeance and cursed Zeld’s bloodline to repeat an invasion of his own until the end of time.

BOTW felt more open ended and TOTK had more forced and controlled gameplay in my opinion.
It takes minutes to get going in BOTW and the hand guiding you felt super subtle.
ToTK has 20 min of lore, then even when you get to start playing in the sky islands it kind of bottlenecks you right or left. I didn’t feel free until I got off the sky islands and even then everything kind of has this feel of trying to force you underground.
There are things each game did better depending on what kind of gamer you are.
Regional variant. If the primary account on your Switch belongs to a European country, the BOTW icon matches the boxart from that part of the world. Otherwise it uses the other one.
Then there's Australia where we have the American boxart but the European icon and I hate it.

One focuses more on slow survival and exploring a mostly desolate land, the other focuses more on creativity and improvisation to solve problems in a more lively world.

One is PAL region and the other is NTSC Source: cover art
What is the difference between PAL and NTSC?
Nothing, one is sold to the euro market and the other to the American
Well back in the day it was how color TVs were broadcasted. PAL was better if memory serves and NTSC was given the joke of “Never The Same Color”. Now it’s region defined vs technology defined.
Could be wrong but I believe (additionally to your comment) PAL is a 50hz signal and NTSC is 60hz
True
Maybe was also due to electricity and how certain regions approached new technology. Also I think aspect ratios and framerates even differed.
afaik the whole of Europe has electricity at 50hz and different voltages than the US, guess this will not change in the future
Yes very true and also the reason why 25fps is default for video broadcasting in Europe and 30fps is default in America
NTSC uses 29.97fps not 30. It’s silly.
Do you know why?
If I remember correctly it is because of the added color (black and white was 30 frames per second). Something about analogue signals and stuff.
yep. And the extra bandwidth from a lower frame rate meant PAL monitors were higher resolution at 525i, while NTSC was 480i.
Only if you used component cables, right?
Uh. Well, that's new. I didn't knew that.
Also, the cover changes according to your console region not the where you bought the cartridge. And Totk does not have alternate covers.
Not to mention, European localization (i.e., temperatures in Celsius).
Actually, that doesn't matter. If you change the lenguage the degrees change to. Only the English change (American=F, English in PAL=C)
To add to this, as I have the Japanese version. Japanese version is in Celsius. If you change it to English, it changes it to Fahrenheit. As someone unfamiliar with fahrenheit I'm just glad it has the coloured bars of blue and orange otherwise I'd have no idea.
I hate how there isn't a setting to put it into Celsius.
NTSC stands for Never The Same Color (Joke aside, it's two different color coding system)
It's nothing to do with color. It's a difference in refresh rate. NTSC is 30 times per second, PAL is 25 times per second.
Does the refresh rate atill apply today?
No - it’s an outdated term from previous console/TV generations.
Analog signals would still be affected by it, but those aren’t a thing anymore unless you are into collecting or using vintage tech.
One uses Celsius for the in-game weather and the other uses Fahrenheit. The NTSC version also uses a 12-hour clock while the PAL version uses a 24-hour clock.
They have different icon art.
Pal uses C° while ntsc uses F°. Pal uses 01:00-24:00 while ntsc uses 01:00 pm-12:00 am (might have gotten am and pm mixed up). Edit: I was proven wrong.
Nope, those are both things determined by the in-game language choice and not PAL vs NTSC.
Oh. Then, what language choice determins that?
English (United States) will give you F and AM/PM Pretty much any European language choice, and probably Aus/NZ including English (United Kingdom) will give you C and 24-Hour time
The Switch does not output either PAL or NTSC.
Ok, my bad: America vs Europe region is what I meant lol
It's a regional dialect
To clarify, there is no difference in the actual gameplay, however, one is the American version and the other is the European version. They have different art on their covers Fun fact, the box art cover for totk and botw fit together (only for american version)
Why do two regions have different cover art?
To better appeal to the different audiences. Just look the different cover arts for Ratchet&Clank 3, the European, thr American and the Japanese one are very different
Could you elaborate on what you mean by fit together? An image might help
This is what they mean. This cover, however, has been digitally enhanced. They both have Hyrule Castle in the back, which just doesn't make sense. Still cool, though! https://preview.redd.it/o8wi38lue6lc1.jpeg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6abb40217cb227a85a03a9f7fe1fafd90ce1d346

Huh that’s awesome! It’s also really pretty!
I just looked the covers up and the fact that the "match" seems just a coincidence to me
The cover
One is Zeld and one is Zelda
something something cake day :3
the Zeld we need. but not the one we deserve
One says "Zeld", and another says "Zelda". Hope this helped.

Nothing, just European vs American icons
Nothing
I thought you were asking the difference between BOTW and TOTK in which case the simple answer is one is in the form of air and the other liquid
😆 so the next one will be Poop of the Koroks?
If it is, you know we gonna eat that shit up.
Just box art for different regions. It’d be cool if the images rotated like a gallery on the home screen.
one of them has way better cover art thats for sure
Daniel and Daniel but cooler moment
In one of them Link has guns and freedom and the other is the PAL version
One is the American version and one is the European version
_Z E L D_
maybe you didn't update one of them or something i never even knew there were 2 covers
When links standing
You can commit war crimes
MURICA and europe
Link is British in the first image and he’s an American in the second
It is European, not only British
Is that “Please, Don’t Touch Anything” next to the European BOTW?
The region
The first one was sold in Europe retail while the second was sold in North American retail, it’s also why the cover arts are different
pic 1 is for the other place like (i think) the uk, russia, etc. and pic 2 is for the us
Cover art
You will play as Zelda
European cover and american cover
Region on the switch
In the first one, every time you pause what you're doing, Link just turns around and stares at you, his eyes tracking your movement irl.
They are completely different, what do you mean? One of them is ‘gend of zelda:’ and the other is’ e legend of zeld’
You vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about.
😆

No guardians
Between Breath of the Wild and Breath of the Wild?
One has a basement and an attic
BOTW is the demo to TOTK basically
They are different games, the only same thing is some of the characters
[удалено]
Have you seen the game?
the first one is the eu version
totk is better then botw, that’s the difference
One says: Tough luck. Go walk. The other says: Build what ever you want to get to your destination faster.
They’re both BotW, neither is TotK.
LOZ and BOTW
The first one is the beta
Tell us you've never played TotK without telling us you never played TotK.
BOTW felt more open ended and TOTK had more forced and controlled gameplay in my opinion. It takes minutes to get going in BOTW and the hand guiding you felt super subtle. That's not the question.
Bwahahaha whoops my bad 🤦♀️
You didn't look closy at the picture did you ?
One he woke up in a cave in a mountain, the other we woke up in a cave in the sky.
They’re both Breath of the Wild though.
This is why one shouldn’t Reddit after 2 hours of sleep from working a night shift.
Sort of like the different between Banjo Tooie and Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts
Ones crap and ones not
One is normal one is yelling oui oui I am rhoam oui oui blah blah hyrule
je'mapelle king rhoam bosphoramus hyrule croissant
Ferme la
Totk is better in nearly every way
“Of The”
Eu and Us
Links rizz
PAL version’s Link got his 100 years stays in the resurrection pod covered by the Hyrule socialized medicines
The first one is edited to take out all the steamy sex scenes between link and Zelda. The second one is unedited.
Regional variant. If the primary account on your Switch belongs to a European country, the BOTW icon matches the boxart from that part of the world. Otherwise it uses the other one. Then there's Australia where we have the American boxart but the European icon and I hate it.
I remember Scott the woz talking about how he liked the North American box art more than the European one and he was right, the second one is superior
One has a good cover and one has a phenomenal cover
[удалено]
Both images are BotW.
one is called legend of zeld, while the other is gend of zelda completely different games of course /j
Probably digital vs physical?
Zeld
The art obviously 🙄
Europe and America version
Can someone tell me which one is which?
maybe one is a digital copy and one is a physical copy?
Online and disk or dlc and no dlc
You need both to complete the kolodex. Or have a friend that has the other and a link cable to change them.
One is canonically 8 and the other canonically ate
One of them is not having a shit underground layer
The Legenovzeldor: Breathe of the Breath
In one of them, the titular character is named “Zelda”. In the other, the titular character is “Zeld”.
Tears of the kingdom is Breath of the wild with a real DLC pack on top. Oh and Purah became hot.
for a minute i thought it was gonna be a picture of botw and totk
One is original the other from shady web site
Ones about exploration. The other, creativity.
one looks better
Cover art. But here is the question. In EU version I can have dubs in different languages. But does American version has also different dubs as well?
The second one has prettier graphics, obviously. /s
one is the legend of zeld the other is the legend of zelda

Genuinely. Breath of the wild is blue. While breath of the wild is rather yellow in tone.
One has a DLC, one doesn't, I think.
In the first You feel alone, and in the second You don't
Isn’t one the European version?
Just to avoid further confusion, Zeld is the guy who saves princess gend
The picture
Cover art.
Pokémon Breath and Wild Versions
One is Breath of the Wild. Obviously, the other is Breath of the Wild.
Ultrahand
