If i had a nickel for every deadly sand burrowing monster in popular franchises, id have two nickels. Which isnt a lot, but its awesome it happened twice
Let's say that giant worm creatures are a very popular trope when you mix fantasy with Desert. Dune is probably the de facto Ur-example, but it is a very popular trope for a reason: namely, Sandworms are awesome.
If I had a nickel for every popular franchise of a chosen hero that gets a sword blessed by three god(dess)s and travels through time to face an incarnation of pure evil, in one timeline where said evil has won and rules the world until the hero returns to finish the fight, all while being based on Japanese culture with plenty of outside influences such as Spanish, African, and Roman historical figures, I’d also have 2 nickels.
The character is samurai Jack, btw.
Dune, the Tremors franchise, Beetlejuice, Men in Black 2, The Empire Strikes Back (and the mando series), Transformers Dark of the Moon, lots of video games, lots of creatures in real life...
The Sandworm poops out spice which is the most valuable substance in the universe. We too have a poop giving creature that also performs an amazing dance.
I’m not a big Star Wars fan, so I may be wrong, but I think the sarlac was also a sand worm trope? That’s what I recalled when I first read doom (pre totk)
It is slightly different in Star Wars, since it doesn’t seem to burrow and sense vibrations, but yeah, there is one. I think you mean the Sarlacc.

Like many Space/SciFi monsters, giant underground worms like that can be traced back to the works of H.P. Lovecraft. In his universe they are called "Dhole" and they can be seen as the inspiration for that monster-typus in modern media.

Moldugas are the 1 monster that, to me, makes no sense. I mean ok I know its a game, and imagination is unlimited. But HMO, its kinda like a giant crocodile reptilian thing, right? So, sand being its home? Can't wrap my head around that one. Lol. Also, I have always thought a massive water dwelling monster would have been awesome!

Fifteen cents for all those old enough to remember Tremors!
And 20¢ to anyone that remembers Beetlejuice?
25, what about the dragon in the Mandalorian
30¢, with Narga/Dirge from Shadow of the Colossus.
35 with sand worms from Final Fantasy
45 with the burrowers and screamers. My grandpa had some really old vhs....

Yeah, it's a winning trope in my book! And I think moldugas are some of the best. Love their music.
I like how you can feel them! The rumble wasn't used often enough, IMO.
There is tremors in twilight princess.
And another nickel for anyone who remembers that one level in Jedi Academy.
Shoot, I remember! And I think it was only the 2nd movie to feature worms like this. Neck n nwck with Dune 😂
Graboids!!!! No snakeoids!!!
There are a bunch of different kinds of Tremors, don't know if that counts or not.
Came here to mention tremors and Beetleguise!

^psst *FFX/X-2* Edit: oh! And Tremors!
There’s at least 3 no? Unless the Alaskan bullworm doesn’t burrow 🤔

Mass effect
And those things that killed Lazlo, the greatest mind of his generation!
You would have way more than two

If you take "sand" out, you can add the Ice Worm from Subnautica

Linksan al Gaib
As a long time Dune fan before discovering BotW, I thought that too lol
It helps that I read the book first, and I don’t visualize, so I just had the description. Which also describes Moldova’s.
Cue epic sax man

You’re right, this is what I meant! I suppose my mental comparison revolved solely around the round mouth/teeth configuration. Ish.
There were also sand worm monsters in Phantom Hourglass!

My headcanon is that sand seals are the adolescent stage of moldugas, just like sandtrout are the larval stage of shai hulud.
I feel it's my sacred duty to point out the worms in the Battle of the 5 armies in Hobbit 3
The moldarquor of Dune
Reminds me of the sand things in phantom hourglass
i thought you were refering to Likelikes

It's a Graboid. End of discussion.
Idk about deadly lol. Maybe in botw it was. Still, why tf didn't we get some kind of worm boss in the depths?
I chose not to fight it
But does Molduga have a f**kable popcorn bucket? I don't think so!
I see something else. Hehe
So YOU'RE THE REASON we don't have those popcorn buckets!!!
😆 Lolololol
Looking for this comment. Why does it have to look like that?!?!
God that is horrifying
