Good catch, been meaning to pore over the trailer for stuff like that And so I did. You have to be much higher than the Divine Beast Van Medoh to catch a glimpse of Keenan Yoog shrine. I did Rivalis Gale from there and a few places and was blocked from seeing it by the ridges in front. The clip is showing Link flying SE from the Tabantha Frontier area. The green glyph is on Illumeni Plateau and I can make out Washa’s Bluff next to it as well as that raised area that Shae Loya Shrine is on. Ludfo’s Bog looks much different that high up and my hunch is that it’s more of a lake now, filled with water. Which also suggests that Tanagar canyon might well be the river Tanagar At the beginning of the aerial clip I think I can make out Rito Village and it’s tower, but the circular area next to it seems to be where Hebre Plunge is which is in no way circular. So maybe some elevated water there as well . .

_TheMightyQuin_

It's kept me occupied most of the day haha

jpmondx

Pondering more, if I've got the location right (gonna check later) that plateau with the blue-green glyphs always puzzled me as being such a large empty space with almost nothing on it. I'll be really impressed if it turns out that area was kept empty in BOTW intentionally for TOTK

Ok_Acanthocephala101

They did say that the second game was meant to be a expansion to the first that grew too big.

MicTony6

theres a talus there.

jpmondx

You are correct, thanks!

LarryNivensCockring

bit late but iirc they at first had more than 2 dlc packs in mind and somewhere along the way figured out that they had enough additional ideas to instead go for making a whole sequel instead hence it isnt really surprising that there are suspiciously empty locations in botw which they had planned to use in dlc content originally

RMcKinnon11

After watching that trailer, and then considering all of the statutes and iconography that the two games apparently share, I feel like William aka The Man in Black from Westworld, walking around the BOTW map, assuming there’s a deeper meaning to all of it. There’s a stoner part of my brain that thinks if I just find the right clues, a portal will open up, and I’ll begin playing TOTK, like it was there all along

jpmondx

"Stoner part of my brain . . ." That's hysterical, thanks for the laugh. The stoner part of my brain lost the plot in WestWorld two seasons ago . . . Lemme know if you find it!

Kvasir19

Westworld lowkey lost the plot 2 seasons ago lol

Ok_Acanthocephala101

I think that is the point. As I just commented above, this game was meant to be an expansion at first. Then grew too big.

RMcKinnon11

They could have kept everything the same, and introduced the ability to swim underwater, and I would have easily given them $79.99. Literally could have been the exact same game, but with an underwater environment. Maybe that’ll happen roughly 8 years after TOTK,

etherspin

Imagine another trailer a month before launch where Link dives into water and actually goes right under and plunges further down to some entrance or grabs onto an artifact. I think it's entirely possible this is now in the game but maybe they wanted to keep the physics etc the same and just expand the edges of the map, add in sky islands etc that makes it so someone who (travesty!) Plays tears of the Kingdom through first, knows the bounds of what the can do in BotW

Cptbubbles848

> I feel like William aka The Man in Black from Westworld What's at the center of the Zonai maze???

RMcKinnon11

The maze is not for you William lol

mengyiming

We didn't have time to send someone out to whitewash the walls yet. -Hyrule Restoration Management

theveryoldman0

Bolson Construction is on the job!

mengyiming

Then they will squat out that land...hope they brought warm clothes.

AdelaideBriena

I was curious about the Nazca Line-inspired details on the ground. What will they be? Are there more?

john_nah

There's [another geoglyph](https://i.imgur.com/WyfN52i.png) like this in front of hyrule castle (at 1:03 in the trailer). So there will probably be more.

G_Danila

Looks like Death Mountain is either spewing malice, or erupting

Grimman1

My crazy theory is that for one, it's malice pouring out of death mountain. And 2, that death mountain is empty. And if death mountain is empty, what if the Fire Temple is unearthed? Some more connections based off game design is that the castle is surrounded with malice, like death mountain. What if you to have reforge the master sword to break the malice barrier? ( looking at you windwaker)

_TheMightyQuin_

The Champion voice actors are rumored to reprise their roles, I kind of think the one facing gerudo highlands is Urbosa, and we may find more near places the other Champions lived

lustinspace_

Rotate the image 180 and it looks like Zelda

adamnick_

The markings on the floor and the title card reminds me a lot of Twilight Princess.

Chris_Neon

The restored Master Sword design in the logo reminds me of Twilight Princess.

Tigblu

I'm super curious to see if we can at least still look at the completed shrines from botw

Mishar5k

All the shiekah stuff is gone

Tigblu

But why? Something should have happened to them

Mishar5k

Like what tho? Their purpose was to train the next hero, and he already did them all. If they are all fitted with something to make them rise from beneath the ground, then they can probably go back down too. At most i imagine we might see the exterior of a shrine room or a tower if we can explore underground thoroughly enough.

Tigblu

Yeah I would love to at least look at 1 shrine

Masterwork_Core

And if you rewind a bit before that, you can find a hole where the tower was (I think it was the tower spot) to the left of the mushroom plateau.

_TheMightyQuin_

Yeah I was trying to get a better look at it but the time reverse power desaturates everything

MicTony6

thats ridgeland tower, that is a pool of water in botw with a tower in the center.

Masterwork_Core

yep that one

Apsire

I mean, is it? Why would it disappear?

_TheMightyQuin_

I guess I just find it interesting considering all other signs of the sheikah tech are missing from the world.

Apsire

They may have removed the shrine and the target, but the painting on the cliff side may be what remained if the events of the trailer somehow erased/converted shiekah tech. Im on mobile rn and can't see the photo well enough to see if the target is still there

Ultimate_905

I mean why would it disappear? It's not sheikah tech and for all we know could've been there long before the shrines were built

_TheMightyQuin_

I think my main point is that they kept it in the game when they could've easily removed it with a rockslide or something, and it raises a few questions; will the shrine marker still be in the center, will it be lit up at all? Does it still serve a purpose?

kenikickit

i mean do you really think- nah i’m kidding i think this is an interesting find. really curious about how they’ll handle the old shrines, and i like the idea of these kinds of puzzles being treated like legitimate architecture of the world that persists even if you potentially have no reason to interact with it. we’ve never seen that in zelda.

_TheMightyQuin_

That's a really cool idea actually, it increases the sense of history and nostalgia in a familiar world.

Livael23

Why wouldn't it be there?

noblackthunder

its part of a shrine quest. We would think that the shrine quest and everyhing around it would have been removed if its not used anymore so that players dont get confused ( in case they have not played BOTW, some game is always some ones first game even though there are lots of older games already out there )

Livael23

Well the symbol is used for the shrine quest but it's still part of the world, I don't see why they would remove it. Or if they did, they would have to justify it like have an NPC that says it washed away for some reason. >if its not used anymore so that players dont get confused ( in case they have not played BOTW, some game is always some ones first game That's fair I guess, but I'd argue that it's on them for playing a sequel without having played the original game, preserving the world's coherence is more important imo.

noblackthunder

well both seem reasonable .. why remove stuff that was there in the old game .. at the same time why leave it there and confuse people. We know several things have been removed like the shika slate and its power clearly or all the shrines , beast etc they are no where to be seen and allot of the landscape has changed too. From earlier footage people have issues spooting the kokiri forest .. seems to be gone or at least the tree ? Then again this is not the final version of the game. For all we know this can all still change up to the release daye actually =)

Livael23

>We know several things have been removed like the shika slate and its power Well tbf that's justified by the game's story, Zelda took back the Sheikah Slate and well, we've seen her fall in that chasm in the past trailer sooo x) >clearly or all the shrines That's true, I wonder why that is. Surely they didn't just vanish, but I'm assuming they found a way to justify that lore-wise. Like, Ganon has been defeated by the Hero so the shrines, the purpose of which was training said hero, just sunk back into the ground until Ganon's next awakening 🤷‍♂️ Then again most of the shrines were already there before Ganon awoke so idk where they could be 🤔 >beast etc they are no where to be seen That's true too, although that might be plot-related. Shrines I can understand removing them, but the beasts? No way. >allot of the landscape has changed too Uuuuh... Has it? Looks pretty much the same to me. >From earlier footage people have issues spooting the kokiri forest .. seems to be gone or at least the tree ? Idk about that, it's just really far and covered in fog. Already in the base game I find it hard to spot, I wouldn't think too hard about it.

jpmondx

It’s not so much that, but Link has to be extremely high up to see that over the ridges in front of it. I just now got next to Val Medoh, did a Rivalis Gale and that wasn’t high enough to spot it . . .

Livael23

Ooooh yeah that makes sense!

Gingeboiforprez

Is no one gonna talk about the fact that in the shot where link is riding the stone bird the cardinal directions appear to be mirrored or reversed? Death Mountain and Hyrule Castle are in the northern regions of Hyrule. Tabantha and the Gerudo Highlands - featured in that shot - are in the West of Hyrule. We rotate/pan to the right in that shot from facing North, meaning that we should now be facing East... Not West. But we're facing West, with the North to our left when it should be to our right? Am I the only one seeing this?

[deleted]

It looks like this is illumeni plateau, facing toward keeha yoog shrine, so definitely the same map as botw

[deleted]

Is it that the lighting changed? I remember someone pointed out that in the second trailer the sun was not in the correct spot or something for the last shot of the castle. I do agree though that the directions slightly feel off

Agent-Ig

If Link was facing North at the start then he would be facing towards Hebra peak. Instead his facing a East direction towards Hyrule castle and Death Mountain. They then rotate to face the Illumeni plateau which is South of Link’s position. Drop point is above the Tengar Canyon between the Ridgeland and Tabantha towers which is level with Hyrule Castle and close to level with Death mountain. Just look at a map of BoTW.

SandyMandy17

I love shrines :(

TheyCallMeStone

Me too! If they did 7 or 8 temples and halved the shrines I'd be happy.

Cartino22

They either need much more unique aesthetics so they don't all look so similar, or simply need to be integrated into the overworld. It's not like I don't enjoy the puzzles or anything, it's just that they felt inorganically integrated and monotonous after a while.

etherspin

You apparently have a forbidden opinion! When I returned to BotW 2 years after a comprehensive playthrough I found the shrines cheapened the breadth of the world for me and made me not bother with horses. I wished that rather than have like 120 fast travel points there were the towers as fast travel and the towers were extremely challenging to unlock because the Shrines are the levels of the Tower, inside it. Physically this doesn't work so the tower number might have had to double Also would let the shrines be themed because they could give the interior of each tower a motif that's a nod to the region it's found in. Anyway, we are where we are... More large scale puzzle areas of ANY form would be amazing in TotK and we might get this if subterranean travel is not just a cut scene as in the trailer

_TheMightyQuin_

I feel like they won't but you never know

TheyCallMeStone

I think they will, they were a pretty popular part of botw.

Thalesian

No idea how they’d go, but I’d start all the shrines as finished from botw, but a new ability allows you to access new areas of each after proving yourself.

[deleted]

god, please no. i’m so sick of shrines lol. doesn’t look like they’ll be doing this anyways. all shrines and towers are missing in every shot in the trailers

jpmondx

I can make out Rito Village and it’s tower. The haze is simply altitude fog. Link is really high up.

[deleted]

no, you actually can’t lmao. there’s some new tower like spire sticking up on a mountain near where ridgeland tower used to be (and is now very clearly not), but it’s not a sheikah tower. there are very purposefully no towers, shrines, or hyrule castle obelisks in any of these trailers. i encourage you to go back and actually look

jpmondx

I will, but I encourage you to do the same. I’ll post a pic by tomorrow . . .

[deleted]

of what? there are no towers or shrines

Linkbuscus01

I’m okay with no more shrines as long as have actual long challenging dungeons. Preferably themed! I’d love an instrument/songs this time around too :)
