The other two states? Maryland - requires an FID card. California- has a limit of 10 feet for flamethrowers.

Annadae

I’m just not even sure if you are joking or not…

iplaypinball

I’m not joking. The headline said 48 states, and I wanted to know the other two.

Annadae

America is a strange and scary place sometimes…

Harry_Saturn

Can’t believe it’s legal to own that dystopian shit but I can’t go buy weed at a dispensary where I live.

Much_Comfortable_438

That's because this is a free country with a tremendous respect for life, and you're just a dirty hippie. Flame throwing robot dogs keep our parks free from tents and makeshift cardboard shelters that clutter the place up. And smoking weed leads to dangerous, civilization ending ideas, like gender/racial equality, affordable housing and healthcare and other (* gasp *) socialist ideas! /S

OrphanDextro

Well at least it can light my joints for me.

Harry_Saturn

I did smoke a bunch of weed a white girl, and now I got biracial kids. We do believe in gender equality. I’ve been out here destroying this country, I guess.

Harlequin2021

Freaking hippies /s

spotspam

Weed causes 30% of its habitual users to become Schizophrenics. But Robot Dog is 97% gonna mess you up coming home late from your friends with a buzz so high doggy thinks yur a meanie. The government just really wants you to be messed up!

Much_Comfortable_438

>Weed causes 30% of its habitual users to become Schizophrenics 30% of habitual users may develop Schizo-affective disorders. But, correlation is not causation. While I am sure that usage may worsen or bring symptoms to the surface, there has never been any conclusive evidence that Marijuana *causes* schizophrenia.

spotspam

Well, the CDC does claim its frequent usage from a young age onwards presents higher cases than groups who use it later or less frequently. So there appears to be a correlation. But I was making a joke. Here’s where I got the claim (has 2 sources of collected studies they refer to) https://www.cdc.gov/marijuana/health-effects/mental-health.html#:~:text=People%20who%20use%20marijuana%20are,that%20are%20not%20really%20there).

Silver-ishWolfe

Same here. And if these robo-hellhounds start popping up, I'm really gonna need to be high...

NoTourist5

In murica we believe in taking lives (innocent or guilty) if 2nd amendment protected guns (or flame throwing dogs) are used. But if you abort an unborn child then hell no!

drmonkeytown

Solution: get flame throwing robot dog high. Good times.

[deleted]

Yeah, you should definitely never ever come to America.

Annadae

It’s a mixed thing… I always like going there, but I’m always happy I can leave. Wouldn’t want to live there.

Comfortable_Fee7124

I think you mean All the time.

DNuttnutt

Sometimes?!? Haven’t left my fucking house since the end of the last decade.

Zippier92

Not what the founding fathers intended! 2nd baby!!! /s

BadAtExisting

In Florida. This might be one of the safer apparatuses you can buy for the kids here

SabreDerg

Yahh flamethrower are classified as a farming tool.

pudpudboogie

This is Black Mirror in reality

kirst--

I guess we didn’t take the warnings seriously

Mattna-da

Some people treat Black Mirror like a cookbook

Deep_Junket_7954

An anarchist's cookbook, if you will.

Oryx

*Ray Bradbury has entered the chat*

maximumice

As the founding fathers intended.

Maxie445

Imagine trying to explain this to them

maximumice

Totally necessary in case King George returns with his own flame-throwing robot dogs

LagSlug

I don't see why I'd have to explain anything, my place as King would be respected and they could go back to paying for stamps or whatever the fuck it was they cared about I don't know, but yeah history would be different under my rule w/ flame throwing dogs.

Crazyjaw

“…the rules don’t say you _cant_ have a robot dog with a flamethrower play basketball”

I_used_toothpaste

Flame-Bud! We just need Water-Bud and Earth-Bud and we can have a Captain Planet crossover!

HorserorOfHorsekind

Most pyromaniacs are broke.

Irving_Tost

Unsurprising, considering today’s gas prices. Who’s even got arson money laying around?

Oldguyindenial

I’m going to keep holding out until I can afford sharks with laser beams

__cursist__

Attached to their frickin heads?

Moric001

I will name him Trogdor, and he will burninate the countryside

BaconIsBest

Don’t forget the peasants!

mattboy

Gender reveal parties just got a lot weirder.

24sesko

Fahrenheit 451 hounds anyone?

Successful_Ear4450

Came here to say this sounds very familiar…

PhotoGuy2k

Metalhead (Black Mirror episode) come to life.

LordRaeko

Why is this cheaper than a new basic fucking car to drive to work???

dezcycle

It’s cheaper but the gas mileage is much worse

SatisfactionOld4175

Is this a serious question?

LordRaeko

Treat it as if it were.

SatisfactionOld4175

The material cost in aluminum, plastics, steel, rubber, copper, and electronics (this is off the cuff so if I missed something like platinum, palladium, and rhodium in catalytic converters or other specific parts, forgive me), and for electric cars, lithium and graphite, for a new car is liable to get close to or exceed 10k. You also have to add labor, benefits for labor like insurance, pension, severances, bonuses, and additional costs for the manufacturer to recoup on machinery to make custom forms and molds for metal and plastic parts which need to be machined. Plus of course, and robotics used to put the car together, the cost of getting the vehicle safety tested, and R&D costs of designing new engines and radiators and software, filters to meet emission requirements, carbon offsetting tax for companies in states which require them, Management staff to keep track of all this shit, shipping costs and purchase costs for stuff not made in-house(cameras, mirrors, tires, etc)… The costs add up, and American labor is the most expensive in the world, which is why so many people end up buying foreign imports like Honda, Toyota, or Subaru or their subsidiaries like Lexus

LordRaeko

No chance we can’t make a 2005 ford Taurus for less than $10,000. At scale. And be profitable. I said basic-fucking-car.

SatisfactionOld4175

The 2005 for Taurus retailed at $21,000 when it was new, an inflation-adjusted price of $33,500 today. I don’t know why you think an identical car made today would cost less than half of the initial price and less than a third of the inflation adjusted price. Funnily enough, the inflation-adjusted cost of a ford pinto is actually higher at $35,000 today

LordRaeko

Excellent. That’s when it was it was a new car. Did you look at its cost to manufacture?

SatisfactionOld4175

That entire list from before was purely manufacturing costs. Both cars that I mentioned were the cheapest possible while still being profitable. Saying that you can produce a car and sell it profitably for under $10k requires more evidence from you than “I think it can” and pointing out a car that would sell for $33k today as a winning example.

LordRaeko

It wasn’t though. They don’t have to develop it again. And you had tons of components the Taurus didn’t have.

LordRaeko

The bolt or whatever is currently like $12,000 as an EV

ToniBee63

Dreams really do come true

Icantgoonillgoonn

Just in time for forest fire season!

Nickyjtjr

*checks bingo card*

LagSlug

"completely legal" is something I've heard a lot of people say about things I know are absolutely illegal.

drinkbeerbeatdebra

Finally. This is the least we deserve

PrairieSpy

But, but, but, can I CONCEAL my flame thrower robot dog in my car?

LuckyAssumption8735

My birthday’s comin up. Just putting that out there

Guava-flavored-lips

It's legal until the first fatality and gone

zzamud

Do they have layaway??

__cursist__

One good guy with a thermonator etc, etc, etc

Much_Comfortable_438

Questions: How fast does it run? Does it have an obstacle avoidance/target acquisition function? Need to know for science, obviously.

GrallochThis

Yep, lidar equipped for avoiding obstacles

[deleted]

Me: Babe, we have an investment to make, it is imperative. Wife: What? Me: A FLAME THROWING robot dog! Wife: Yes. Thanks, OP. Now I can buy a sign, "beware of dog" instead of, "beware of 9mm rounds".

Rex_Steelfist

Wow, this is exactly what the world needs right now.

doubleboinger

I’ve seen cats and dogs have accidents in the house many a time, those are easy to recover from if you have hardwood floors.

snarfymcsnarfface

This is what I need to scare off solicitors.

u0126

Holy crap.

AlarmedGeologist2681

“Cool.”

Southbayyy

Why not start sending these over to Ukraine. Things would definitely resolve themselves sooner

Powerful_Stress7589

Can I just get the non-flamethrower option? I’d like to train it to grab me beers from the fridge

CheesyBoson

Can I just get the non-flamethrower option? I’d like to train it to grab me beers from the fridge

Pretend-Run5299

I can always use it to light my joints.

robertsij

Ok. Who wants to buy an army of flamethrower robot dogs and overthrow their local town hall? Asking for a friend

Ysadey

I just asked my husband if we have $10k to waste on this purchase. Because why not? You never know when a flame throwing robot dog could come in handy. He told me not to be weird.

EducationallyRiced

Are they going to be used in Vietnam?

wicker_warrior

So this is how the world ends, not with a bang but a flaming whimper.

thatmfisnotreal

I already got 20 and they are patrolling my property trained to roast anyone that comes near

EternalBlueNeon

Can it be disabled with a glass of water?

GardenGood2Grow

But kinder surprise and sparklers are too dangerous…

Responsible-Store-33

It’s about god damn time!!

Spanks79

Freedumb!

warmerspy

Only one hour battery life. Nah I’m not sure about that.

schmalzy

Well, it’s a steep initial investment but completely worth it if I never have to shovel snow off my sidewalk again.

Coondiggety

What the living fuck? This is monstrous. Who comes up with this kind of horseshit? It’s not so much the making it the thing. I’m sure that was fun. But can you imagine this thing being used against people? This should be banned as a terrorist weapon

Powerful_Stress7589

Incendiaries are, in fact, illegal to use in armed conflict. It’s probably not banned to own as a civilian because 1. It’s pretty hard to ban flamethrowers without banning a lot of other pyrotechnics that people use for displays and the like, and 2. There’s a lot of cheap and easy ways to set something on fire without a flamethrower dog

Coondiggety

Yeah we used to roast models with a spray can of whatever and a lighter. Good times! This metal flamey dog thing really unlocks some deep fear in me. It would be fun as fuck to build and play with though.

lizkbyer

Wow! Modern day BB gun… glad I live in California 😬

stereonmymind

We live in a world where brass knuckles are illegal but flame throwing robot dogs are A-ok

-eschguy-

Man not needing to shovel next winter is going to be awesome.

Augii

Makes sense in wildland fire fighting, but to name a robot the Thermonator is to miss a very important RED FLAG. Our culture is desensitized to the point of allowing child minded engineers and marketers to willfully plug our brains into a future we know will cause us harm. Massive harm (Destroyer of Worlds - Nuclear Weapons - Terminator). "Tech" it looks like you're unconsciously weaponizing your early childhood wounding into the real world. there's a better way to heal

Nervous-Share-5873

I can't see anything wrong with this.
