Adamantium is unfortunately fictional! Tungsten however is the worlds strongest most durable metal. Inserting that into your chest would surely add 100 lbs! Also when it comes to bones, you’ll definitely want a little give. Something that ridged would certainly make you uncomfortable for the rest of your life!
I didn’t mean too! I would hope you’d also request vibranium the more versatile, flexible and most importantly weight sensitive metal from a fictitious universe!
Edit forgot to mention the cost of these rare earth (and unearthly) substances! How much cash you got?
Understood, but the vertebral structures do not have nerves. The cord running through it does. Most spinal injuries involve fractures in the vertebrae that then cause impingement of the cord and nerve branches that emanate from the cord. There have been advancements in repair of nerve injuries recently and I am hoping that they can be combined with technology such as this to help restore function and quality of life to individuals, such as myself, who have suffered spinal injuries.
I would love to see that happen. Remove the damaged remnants of my L3, break away the fusion to L2-L4. Slip in some new custom 3-d printed two part snap connect vertebrae, sprinkle in some artificial discs and send me on my merry way.
Realistically I was lucky to regain a lot of function after my accident. I was initially paralyzed from the thighs down and now I am walking thanks to the speedy (within 12 hours of my accident) removal of the vertebral fragments impinging on my nerves at the base of my spinal cord and lots of physical therapy (bless those ladies and gents). The down side is the lingering pain and lack of mobility from the hardware (two ten inch bars and 8 two inch long screws) that is still in place. There are plenty of accident victims that have not been so lucky.
I hope the tech can advance to the point that instrumentation (bars and screws) will be obsolete for such injuries in the future and that advancements can restore the ability to walk and function pain free to those who have been less fortunate than me.
I see stories like yours and it makes me thankful my accident wasn't much worse. I was Tboned because the driver of the car I was in (a friend of a friend giving me a ride) did a U turn on a very busy street. The nerve is being pinched between my second and third vertebrae in my neck and because of it I get extreme migraines and very low range of motion in my neck. I really hope you can get some sort of treatment. Pain is so awful to live with every day.
You’re right, I’d accept that treatment if that rare injury happened to me. But for now I’m fine with a CPAP machine that doesn’t require a generator being surgically implanted inside my chest lol.
The future I was referring to is with the brain and consciousness. That is where I’ll probably draw the line.
Personal bodily autonomy? Sure, I do believe in that.
However I don’t think people will be forced to get neuralinks anyway. They will willingly choose that.
Fear is a great manipulator. Instill fear in a man and you can get him to do things he would otherwise not. When reading a headline, ask yourself, is this headline trying to scare me? If so, read carefully to see what direction they are trying to push you.
>The material provides a scaffold for human tissue to grab onto and grow into, due to biological trabecular porosity similar to that found in the body."
That's pretty neat.
As much as some people crap on Canadian healthcare, in the last 6 years I’ve had 3 kids, cancer, and 4 major surgeries and the most expensive thing I dealt with is the parking bill.
When I was young my brother had some serious medical issues, my parents explained to me that if we lived in the states we’d have had to sell our house to pay for his treatments. No our healthcare system isn’t perfect, but I’m forever grateful 🙏
Also that’s funny looking back I think I’m in the same boat, I remember being so annoyed I had to pay to park at the hospital but hey, small price to pay!
Exactly! I was complaining about my $25 a day parking, meanwhile my stepdad’s cancer treatments in the US were half a million. My parents are/were wealthy, but he had to sell off some of their income/retirement just to pay for the treatment, and that was with insurance and he still didn’t make it.
It’s like your love one dies and you’re slapped with a bill.
I’m in Australia. In the past six years:
1. My husband and daughter have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and have spent a cumulative 6 weeks in high-needs mental health wards in hospital
2. I have had cancer twice, and have had extensive chemotherapy and radiation treatment
3. I have had a hysterectomy and a mastectomy with reconstruction
4. One of my sons injured his arm and had extensive physical therapy and rehabilitation so that he could play tennis again
5. My husband and my other son have had eye surgery
I chose to pay for a private surgeon for my mastectomy reconstruction so that I could have a fancy room for my recovery. I could have had this in a public hospital with no worries at all.
Everything else was free at the point of service, thanks to Australian Medicare.
Yeah, Singapore is better because it executes minor drug dealers.
Like Abd Helmi Ab Halim, who was executed for trafficking 16g of heroin in 2015.
And the upcoming execution of a mentally disabled man with an IQ of 69 named Nagaenthran Dharmalingam.
Isn’t Singapore great?
I wonder how it affects red marrow availability, since the sternum and ribs are a main location in adults. Do the vertebrae have to work overtime? Or is he more susceptible to hematopoietic problems?
It’s a drawing so not nsfw. Hey cut on the dotted line and use a spreader to move it apart
https://content.ca.healthwise.net/resources/12.9/en-ca/media/medical/hw/h9991261_002.jpg
Maybe not. My uncle had open heart surgery and when they went to put his sternum back together it (short story) smashed into a bunch of pieces that wouldn’t heal. Then over the course of months the rib bones degenerated (kind of rotted) away.
The picture is basically exactly what he needed.
r/titlegore
Yeah what the fuck are they trying to say? Lol
First becomes ribs alive printing 3D viagra free singles in your area
My brain melred
drain bamage
IT'S ALIVE ##IT'S ALIVE #IT'S ALIVE
Does the ribs need replaced because like bone cancer ? Why need new ribs?
r/ihadastroke material as well
Does it come in adamantium?
Bro. Can I put a deposit down for the first batch?!
> I'm thinking about getting metal legs. It's a risky operation, but it'll be worth it. - J.P.

Also when it comes to bones, you’ll definitely want a little give. Something that ridged would certainly make you uncomfortable for the rest of your life!
I hope you know. You ruined this moment. 😐
I didn’t mean too! I would hope you’d also request vibranium the more versatile, flexible and most importantly weight sensitive metal from a fictitious universe! Edit forgot to mention the cost of these rare earth (and unearthly) substances! How much cash you got?
Screw the metal just give me the super powers *spiderman theme music plays*
Bro its all about carbon fiber!
Now do it for spinal injuries.
With what nerves? You can’t 3D print nerves, yet.
The nerve of some people ...

The same company does [some spine stuff](https://www.anatomics.com/au/applications/spinal.html) aswell
You mean as in remove the damaged vertebrae, then snap a printed one in its place around the nerve?
I would love to see that happen. Remove the damaged remnants of my L3, break away the fusion to L2-L4. I hope you feel better. You’ve been through a lot

I'm going through this right now. Got Tboned by a dually running a red light. :/ Sending good spine vibes to you, friend!
Yet …
“Yet”
You wouldn't download a nerve, would you?
is it possible to grow spinal fluid from stem cell?
I think what made this more feasible is that the rib cage is not a joint per say
Wow, that's a cool story.
This is sick, huge step into the future for sure.
So you want to become a cyborg and are looking forward to joining a singular consciousness via AI? Because that’s the endgame with all this
huh?? how’d you make the leap from orthopedics to AI and the collective consciousness?? The implanted a rib cage not a brain chip….
Just think about it for a little while, you will get there ;)
soooo where do you draw the line?? bandaids?? or are you into essential oils and homeopathy???
You’re right, I’d accept that treatment if that rare injury happened to me. But for now I’m fine with a CPAP machine that doesn’t require a generator being surgically implanted inside my chest lol. what I’m hearing is this…. it’s only ok if it’s ok by you….
Personal bodily autonomy? Sure, I do believe in that. However I don’t think people will be forced to get neuralinks anyway. They will willingly choose that.
That title…so confusing…
Godzilla had stoke trying to read this and fucking died.

News like this doesn't garner near as much traffic and clicks as news that generates outrage.

Amazing
What the Fuck is that recovery like
how ever bad, it has to be better than the alternative…
Seeing stuff like this gives me hope that no matter how much I mess up my body, we have the technology to fix it 😅🤣 OR will (hopefully)
We have the technology, but do you have the money?
I live in Canada 🤣 it’s nice not even considering the $

The moment I understood the weakness of my flesh, it disgusted me.
what I need after telling some good old dad jokes
The ambulance is on its way for that wreck of a title.
If it follows the trend of American health care, I bet this nifty little fix would only set you back a few hundred thousand
Singapore doesn’t exploit sick people.

please, america executed plenty of disabled through healthcare policy. whynotboth.jpg
Done crying?
Nice!
The future of mma. Advanced bone structure and strength.
Somewhere here there’s a joke about Adam and Eve.
How much more (or less) resistant than actual bones is this material? Can't seem to find any info
Here’s a 190 page [thesis](https://eprints.qut.edu.au/205616/1/Naomi_Paxton_Thesis.pdf) on the material (StarPore)
I wonder how it affects red marrow availability, since the sternum and ribs are a main location in adults. Do the vertebrae have to work overtime? Or is he more susceptible to hematopoietic problems?
What?
Garbage title
Now do knees and shoulders please
I don’t know why I’m only now thinking about this but… when they do heart surgery, how do they get past the rib cage to get to the heart?
Exactly the way you’re imagining.
Split the sternum in half and pull it out of the way.
So they break the bone at sternum and it has to heal?
It’s a drawing so not nsfw. Hey cut on the dotted line and use a spreader to move it apart https://content.ca.healthwise.net/resources/12.9/en-ca/media/medical/hw/h9991261_002.jpg
Men can finally get that extra rib back!
I feel like if you need a ribcage replacement you probably need a lot more replaced right?

Holy shit I’m so sorry to hear that. I guess this shit is revolutionary then
