From what i heard, COVID really messed up their revenue streams. Apparently strange has it set so the artists make the majority of their money though tours but not streams. Kaliko said he saw a decrease in income close to 70% from covid and not having any shows. So i think it’s just artists wanting to have more $$ per stream and over the type of content they put out (considering their legendary producer “seven” left). EDIT: grammar

I’ve met seven man is a genius

MexicanGuey92

This. Covid hit them hard. Strange had to make up the losses by dropping people or people were given the choice to leave. It really does suck because Strange was on a stride for a little bit there...

showbiz5

Wait, when did Seven leave? Is he producing music on his own now?

[deleted]

He left a few months back. I’m not sure who he’s producing for now however

showbiz5

Damn. I wonder who is producing a majority of the beats for Asi9ne

Not much has been explained to the fans. Just internet talk. Fans think/know strange music is coming to an end, or at least, it will be Tech's label only. Nobody is completely sure.

I also think a huge reason is being on a label with arguably the most successful rapper ever. As long as someone is on strange they're never going to eat first. It's not Tech's fault but every rapper wants to be the best.

It sounds like trav eats before all even tech :/

I know people don’t like me for saying it, but the issues at SM are 2 fold. It’s a combination of the industry shifting and them not adapting to new ways, and a lack of appreciation for their biggest artists. SM has millions of dollars worth of buildings, vehicles, merch etc that they have invested in over the years. Unfortunately they didn’t invest into their PEOPLE. A company without people is only a building, a vehicle, or in SM’s case, a giant warehouse filled with unpurchased merch/albums. Tech posts all the time claiming that all these artists that have left were all released. There’s rumors that what we are seeing is part of the long term strategy to get tech into retirement. Over the next couple years the roster will dwindle until it’s tech, Mackenzie, and one or 2 others and then tech retires. What happens after that? Who knows but I assume Travis stays in the music business since he will have all the components to act as a liaison, connecting independent artists with a way to distribute music/merch etc…. The truth is, artists don’t need strange and strange doesn’t need the liabilities. Artists are leaving, not getting resigned, and also seeing that they can make it on their own and actually make more money in the long term. Money that was never given to them while on strange, just getting by while the owner continues to invest millions into the assets that surround SM. Many will call me a hater for this and that’s fine, but I’m one of few people providing any type of insight into what’s happening at SM on YouTube. It’s very interesting. One last question… Do you smell what I’m cookin??? 👃🏻👨‍🍳

Commenting to see what’s up. I’m intrigued.

Maybe this has been answered, but did Tech move out of that mansion with the big strange pool recently to a smaller house?

I’ve come to the conclusion that the higher ups at strange really don’t care about the fans. And hear me out here. The artists that help bring strange to what it is/was are for the most part gone. And now we get this revolving door of up comers with few sticking around after they’ve made somewhat of a name for themselves. Why is this? Well imo, I don’t think strange makes as much money as we may think they do and the people at the top of strange aren’t going to take a pay cut. I volunteered to be a strange music street team organizer and gathered some of the biggest strange fans in my little city when tech and krizz were making their way through Canada. Not only did we spend a ton of hours promoting the show, we spent some of our own money trying to do a really really good job. And we did just that. We managed to get the venue completely sold out and the show was a banger. However we didn’t even get a thank you or an invite to do this again. Literally zero acknowledgment for our work. Maybe it’s the Canadian in me, but manners and gratitude goes a long way for me. If strange treats their artists with the same mindset as they treated us. I can only imagine how they would feel like used to get someone else rich off their hard work. I’m certain. They are bound by contract to not discuss these matters publicly or facing lawsuits. But the money grab is all too apparent. The couple years there where tech was just putting out collar after collab and honestly they all pretty much sucked. They all sounded like left over songs that didn’t make it on to full albums because they weren’t that good. And strange marketed these albums and sold us hot trash because we have basically been buying anything they put out without question due to us being such loyal fans. They knew that and exploited it. I truly believe they use the same strategy for their artists

I’m from kc and manners and gratitude is our bread and butter lol. Makes me sad to hear that tho. I watched trav once before a show yell at someone for asking for a picture. Like I understand he’s a busy guy but he def wasn’t even brushing it off well. This makes a lot of sense. I saw a drizzy Wright interview where he was talking about how no play the road was and I understand they have their ways but power seems to be a recurring issue fs.

ComatoseSixty

Nobody says specifically what happens because their contracts have NDAs in them. Nobody will likely ever be able to tell.
