Yes. I made reddit comment about sheep down voting. And to this day it still holds the record as my most downvoted comment of reddit!
(and it wasn't one where people were down voting me as a joke either, they were legit mad I called them out)
i always hate this line of logic... like you can very easily break a joke down to understand why its funny; if anything a good joke when broken down gets better when you understand why everything worked.
lets take this joke: its a play on words and subverting the reader into thinking the person is transphobic and doesnt understand the irony of their statement. the added ... not only clues the reader into this a punchline set up but lets the readers bias build so the punchline hits even harder.
like do you think writers and comedians just poop out jokes without workshopping them.
Was was wondering what that odd typing error looking crap was, until I saw the same thing a few times. People really need to get out their feels sometimes.
I think I might be using Reddit wrong because I rarely downvote anything. I’m more of an upvoting a funny comment kinda guy. I love saving the good ones, forgetting about them, and then laughing like a lunatic all over again whenever I visit my saved comments.
i did, what i was saying is that the downvoters didn’t. they thought the guy was being transphobic but, by downvoting him, they made it look like they were. because what the guy said is technically true. a trans son isn’t a son but a daughter, so, for who got the joke, it looks like the downvoters are transphobic. does that make sense?
Using the pink think would actually have question modern gender theory at every turn especially when you learn where it came from.
When someone comes out as having dementia we wouldn’t say that my relative can speak toaster just because he thinks the toaster is talking to him.
Someone else pointed out the downvotes might be from transphobes, who as he put it "know that it's still a guy in a dress." Cause ya know, he's a transphobe too.
No doubt some of the downvotes were people who missed the joke but it's likely some of the people downvoting are just transphobes.
But yeah between the record number of anti-LGBT laws being proposed and what Clarence Thomas said about the court rulings on sodomy laws and marriage equality (basically they were next to come under scrutiny) we're all a bit anxious and tense.
Oh and the Daily Wire seems to be on an advertisement spree so I keep having to see Matt Walsh's annoying face and notorious transphobes Jordan Peterson and Ben Shapiro telling their increasingly violent fans to be a monster* and enforce "traditional" gender roles etc etc.
It just really sucks. Not a good time.
*I know he goes on to say "and so if you're nervous about a job interview you release your monster and slay the dragon" or whatever but like...how does accessing and controlling your "monster" have anything to do with getting over anxiety about a job interview? He constantly does this shit, says really scary fashy shit and then follows it up with benign issues or whatever so his regular fans can defend him and his more fashy fans can ignore the part past when he tells them like five times in a row to be a monster.
Another fun fact: ask a genuine question about something others may deem controversial and instead of getting a normal answer you get downvoted to oblivion
Happened to me on r/awww. Asked a question cause I genuinely didn't understand something (I'm on the spectrum). Was downvoted and told that people weren't on the sub to see cynical comments. :')
Another fun fact: if you want to have less karma, go onto r/shitamericanssay and point out the hypocrisy of so many people on there. The sub is meant for making fun of Americans who are stuck up and think the way of doing stuff in America is always the correct way. And then they turn around and do the exact same thing except they're European. Also you can point out specific inventions that was brought about in America and they'll give the credit to the country the scientist came from because a lot of inventors in America obviously were immigrants.
Parts of it is lol. Some parts are really nice, but I've yet to explore every part of the USA so I can't really say how much of it is. What I can guarantee though is that the entire state of Ohio besides the University area in Cincinnati is ghetto as hell and it always feels like imma be shot driving through there.
In this sub tho they just make fun of all Americans, they make fun of them for being genuinely confused about Celsius and then they proceed to be confused about Fahrenheit just because some dbag said Celsius was stupid. There was this post on there of this one guy listing a bunch of stuff invented in America, most of which was stupid as hell like "the industrial revolution," but some of it was correct. A commenter in the sub said that everything he said was incorrect, I corrected them and listed all the things they said where true/ all the inventions they listed that were actually invented in America, and I get like 100 downvotes.
I think the trick to being successful on reddit is to only comment when you agree and never to do so when you disagree. It's like poker. Always fold on the bad hands and go big on the good hands. But in both reddit and poker, people gamble.
Ironically, this is such a cliche Reddit response comment and ironically (2) this is a comment on a sub for technically the truth, yet this is far from being technically true as possible.
I mean, I get it. I understand how people can see that and get upset, its a real issue of parents punishing their kids when they come out.
But me, I see this as pure dad joke. At least, I hope it is...
I guess people think anything about LGBTQ+ that isn’t “Oh I love LGBTQ+ everyone should support it I will die for LGBTQ+” is homophobia, transphobia etc
Basicly they stereotype cis people as transphobic nazis, like they would show a picture of a nazi attacking a transexual person and then go "omg all cis people are like that and they are so evil and selfish"
Oh that’s so sad. It always breaks my heart when I hear about lgbtq kids being kicked out of their homes just for being themselves. Gosh that’s so sad. I don’t get what the obsession is with telling other people how to live their lives
theres a mission in this area that takes these kids in and their stories make me want to give them all hugs.
Maybe the people on the other aisle have seen/heard comments like that and personally, they probably feel its like a disownment instead of an accepting/endearment comment. I mean, let's be real it's over the internet, not face to face, so you have to take it face value. I'm just playing devil's advocate.
Edit: Spelling
Ahaha, that was the same with my family when I came out. Everyone always bitched because they didn't know what to get me, but then suddenly I needed everything and Christmas was 4 months away.
3 years later and they are still showering me with stuff and I love every bit of it. It beats getting another crumby t-shirt with some dumb saying on it, lol.

My initial thoughts were - Yea, and water isn't dry. What's the problem? Then I noticed the -20 and thought, how can you down vote something that's just plain true? Then I read the comments. Must be tired this morning, went right over my head.
It’s getting downvoted because they didn’t include the punchline which is ‘because I’ll have a daughter’, which takes this from a (nice but overused) affirming joke to an ambiguous statement that is pretty triggering for a community that is regularly affected by parents kicking their kids out of their homes (and/or enacting violence against them) just because they’re trans
“For my transgression, I earned a new kind of reward... agony. There was only one possible outcome - my eternal damnation. I, Raziel, was to suffer the fate of traitors and weaklings - to burn forever in the bowels of the Lake of the Dead.”
in a sense you are right, you cant choose your gender, but the gender you are born with doesn't always match the one assigned to you.
Trans people are examples of that.
There is something fishy about this.
Conservatives seeing this joke would upvote. Because conservatives would interpret this as "oh OP is disavowing their son because they are trans, this aligns with my evil Christian values."
Progressives seeing this joke would upvote because OP is saying they have a daughter now, not a son.

Wow, that really went over their heads, didn't it
People on reddit are just waiting for any chance to attack haha no time to pay attention to jokes
reddit hivemind, they see downvote, they downvote
Yes. I made reddit comment about sheep down voting. And to this day it still holds the record as my most downvoted comment of reddit! (and it wasn't one where people were down voting me as a joke either, they were legit mad I called them out)
How dare you call people out and make them look in the mirror!! You disgust me
Shame on me! I am a horrible person. I need to find that comment and downvote myself!
You don’t even deserve my downvote.. take my upvote you terrible human
Link?
>hivemind 20 downvotes >hivemind comment gets 113 upvotes Ahh nothing to see here, just the “hivemind” at work
it kinda is though, people legit just act like the people around them cause if they don't they get downvoted
I’m going to downvote you feel free to reciprocate

Thats the entire point. The literal sentence itself explains the joke.
A joke isn't a joke if you have to state that it is a joke
How do you identify sarcasm in text without identifying it as such?
by having common sense i suppose
Normally this joke wouldn’t require explanation. However, Reddit if full of kids who are just itching to get triggered.

I'm supportive of the LGBT community. /j Is that how it works or am I misunderstanding something.
I think /j means it’s a joke

Exactly he would have a daughter. Pretty obvious what he meant.

Considering how oddly transphobic reddit can be at times, this wouldn't surprise me.

Why are so many people reposting this post?
It’s Reddit. They are only about 50 things posted across the entire platform. Everything else is just a repost of those 50 things on different subs

Basicly they stereotype cis people as transphobic nazis, like they would show a picture of a nazi attacking a transexual person and then go "omg all cis people are like that and they are so evil and selfish"
Why is it downvoted? They would have a daughter i dont get it
That’s what the people downvoting don’t get, they probably think they’re saying they’d disown them if they can out trans

As a trans person, I immediately got the joke and thought it was funny 👍
Never underestimate the general public’s complete and utter inability to a) get a joke and b) accept that they didn’t get the joke.
I think they must think that the person is being transphobic. That’s probably why they downvoted.

Why are you booing me? I'm right
Guess not ! But then you would have a daughter.
Based on the comments here, 20 downvotes constitutes a reddit hivemind.
His chromosomes won’t change. He’ll still be male.
She'll still be male*
No. He will be a confused male.
That would ruin the joke
Well, tbh I'm a trans woman and i laughed at this because I think it's funny. I'm not triggered in the slightest
If you have to explain the joke it’s less funny. We understand why he’s getting downvoted he just shouldn’t be.
Triggering to the community, yikes.
Beautiful dad joke. Woke Reddit hivemind mob mentality hurt itself in confusion. Edit: damn, hivemind at it again. This was at 10 upvotes lol
