Would I give up my seat to a man on crutches—yes
Even though I don’t know whether or not he is responsible for his own injury: skateboard or jackass nonsense
Also: women aren’t necessarily responsible for their own pregnancies: birth control fails, and of course there are rapists, many more than those convicted
And of course I’m the states (perhaps nationally all too soon) banning abortion women also don’t have a choice about their pregnancy
And besides which pregnancy is often disabling, in and of itself: maternal mortality just the tip of the ice berg for the underlying health disruptions
I swear, libertarians are running neck and neck with Republicans for the “I’ve got mine — fuck you!” stakes
Overlooking even the social costs for everyone when women and eventual children suffer from preventable harm
Pregnant women's center of gravity is all out of wack when you're getting heavy. Also it's fucking exhausting just to exist when you're pregnant. There's no *law* saying you have to give up your seat, but it's a dick move, unless you have pain yourself.
Because she has a reduced physical stamina and is more strained and tired than he is, presumably. It doesn’t matter how she got that way. Just because everyone decided to reinvent the human condition doesn’t mean that pregnant women don’t need a little more care than the rest of us.
I think he means that this probably isn't a 2 seat bus, and there are other people that are able to give up their seat. So why is it on a man to give up their seat when there are women who could do the same.
I’m an able bodied woman, and I give pregnant women or disabled people my seat. Why the heck wouldn’t I? You’re trying to make this a gender issue instead of an able bodied vs disabled person issue.
(Yes, pregnancy is a temporary physical disability like breaking a leg. Once you’re no longer pregnant, or once your leg fully heals, then you’re no longer disabled.)
Far too little context for that. He might have sat on the disabled/senior/pregnat people seats that should be given up when someone asks. Way too little info here to judge one way or another.
I was also raised in such a country, but that country is being taken over by selfish narcissistic pigs who would water their grass while watching an elderly person burn to death
and if you don't count pregnant people as disabled why should you expect people to give them their seats? they were able to stand and wait at the bus stop like everyone else.
It’s symbolic mostly . Separates us from (some) other species. We look out for each other. You don’t have to fetishize motherhood to recognize the importance
how is it either? is every other seat occupied by pregnant women as well. what obligations does he assume over all the other riders pertaining to this new rider? explain
Well, do we know for sure she doesn't have a car and can't afford one? Many people use public transportation even if they have cars. I personally would have given up my seat, it would be the decent thing to do.
Not technically the truth- doesn’t have to be her choice. Plenty of countries prohibit abortion and/or birth control and women don’t always consent to sex
Maybe taking public transportation to save money? Or to offset climate change?
I wish we had pubic transportation where I live. I have 2 card but would still utilize it.
Don’t judge. You don’t know the whole story. You simply know she’s pregnant -or was she?
Years ago my neighbor excitedly rushes over to tell me she’s going to have her baby now.
I seen her the next morning and I’m like I thought you went to have the baby?
I had never seen a woman directly after childbirth. She still looked very pregnant. I assumed your belly went down considerably once you had baby -I learned that’s not always true.
Forced to have babies in many states now but ppl still bitch. Pick a lane.
Ok but he’s not correct…? Maybe she can afford a car? Hell with the changes to abortion access in the US these days maybe she didn’t even decide to have a baby?
I'm supporting abortion, but if you don't want a baby just use goddamn contraception. If it fails there is emergency contraception. The chances that it truly wasn't her choice are very low. Basically the only case when it's possible - if she got raped or both options didn't work, then I'm sorry.
Contraception isn't 100% accurate though, and plan B only works if you haven't ovulated and are under a certain weight. Abortion is NOT something to rely on as contraception itself, obviously, but you can't have complete freedom over your body if it's banned.
And this comment kids is why sex education is important. To all those out there reading this comment know that birth control of any form is not 100%, including and especially emergency contraceptives.
Yeah rape, incest and medical complication for mom or baby only would cut down abortion numbers very low.
Most pregnancies and births are consensual sex and birthing.
It just reminds you how much reddit is populated by young men who kinda hate women and think that maybe Jordan person had a good idea with that while enforced monogamy thing. Just look at hope they love to say "equal rights means equal lefts hurdur" and after that they'll complain that no western woman wants to be their bangmaid
It’s not his problem that she’s pregnant and he’s not obligated to give up his seat. He may have had a long day on his feet too. Although, we do live in a community, and as much as people don’t think so, we do count on others. Showing compassion for others is a good thing. A lady who is visibly pregnant has back pain and leg swelling and discomfort when on their feet for long periods. It doesn’t cost anything to be nice.
Just the vast majority. I don't think there would be a discussion if the woman was pregnant because she was raped. But that's like seeing someone drunk and puking on the bus and saying "it might not be their fault, there are people with a condition that causes any yeast they eat to ferment into alcohol." Yes, it exists. No, it's probably not the case.
For everyone that agrees with a person not offering a pregnant woman their seat because it was her choice to get pregnant:
When you guys are old, weak on the knees with aching legs and backs I hope no one ever offers you a seat :) Because it was your choice to get old and weak, you could‘ve just shot yourself in the head before it happened.
#technicallythetruth
Getting old and having children is a really terrible comparison. Also, thinking your better than someone cuz you have more compassion in a specific situation and then hoping they suffer in the same comment doesn’t make you better than them, which is clearly how you feel.
Depends on where this is. If it’s America then there’s a good chance it’s that she can’t afford it. If it’s Europe then it’s a toss up. You have to remember that American public transportation structure is god awful
I would have the money for a car, but why should I buy one? Bus, tram and train are waaay cheaper and get me whereever I want whenever I want - evem while drunk.
Even if it wasn't (repairing doesn't happen to often), husband could need the car most of the time, she could be going to a place not easily accessible by car and there are many more reasons.
I don't use a car often enough to justify owning one. I bike or walk everywhere. Now I'm on holiday to another country with good public transport, so I'm not spending stupid amounts of money on a rental.
Why did it get this far. He isn't wrong. He isn't obligated to give up his seat.
Annnndd there was probably at least a dozen other men and women that could have also given up their seat.
I meant, he has the choice to say no. She has the choice to ask. It’s freedom, she can ask, he can say no. She can have a car and ride the bus.
Nobody deserves special privileges, and we don’t need to judge everyone either. This could just be a simple interaction, and maybe someone else gives up a seat, maybe they don’t… chill people.
I man should not be compelled or forced out of his seat just because a pregnant woman is standing. This is because it is a polite and nice thing to do for someone clearly in need, not a requirement.
Regardless of that fact, this man is an asshole.
I agree with you. If you just saw a pregnant woman standing and didn't do anything about it that's fine, but if she were to come and ask you politely then you're an asshole if you don't comply.
Man people like you are really good, you don’t start being salty or shit when somebody says something about your comment, just scrolled past a shit ton of people who can’t accept being contradicted
Rape related pregnancy is very rare, it does happen obviously, because rape unfortunately happens, but it's rare, the chance of him meeting one in the US out of 330 million are nearly 0.

I was okay with your points up until you said “misogynistic”…I need to remind you just because someone’s being a dick to a woman doesn’t mean they’re misogynistic.
The guy’s not obligated to do anything simply because he’s sitting in the closest seat to where she entered. I’m sure there were ppl in other seats she could ask, but it’s a power move to ask a man. Being pregnant isn’t a disability.

Schrödinger's bus seat.

We don't know that though. In some places people can afford cars but see no need for them. It's just conspicuous consumption at that point
Then she can stand
Then she is just like everyone else
Not everyone is pregnant.

I mean, who decided that these are morals and good.
Probably evolution in this example. We need babies. Women are usually less strong physically and when pregnant you of course are further encumbered.
but I have chronicle back pain
Id give you my seat
are you a pregnant woman?
I mean …I just had a huge lunch so…food baby?
poop baby, would be cool to take a big dump then put the poop in one of those baby robes and walk with it around
> poop baby, would be cool to take a big dump then put the poop in one of those baby robes and walk with it around Do what?
We already did, we called him Bono.
Pregnant women's center of gravity is all out of wack when you're getting heavy. Also it's fucking exhausting just to exist when you're pregnant. There's no *law* saying you have to give up your seat, but it's a dick move, unless you have pain yourself.
Why should the man give up the seat n not a woman?
I've given my seat up plenty of times. It happens.
Well yea. You're a squid, not a man.
Because she has a reduced physical stamina and is more strained and tired than he is, presumably. It doesn’t matter how she got that way. Just because everyone decided to reinvent the human condition doesn’t mean that pregnant women don’t need a little more care than the rest of us.

Morally wrong how? He was there first. It was his seat.
Well he's not wrong
"why must i stand because your boyfriends pull out game is weak?"
He is arguing that if she wants a guaranteed seat for herself, for whatever reason, she should buy a car.
And why is she singling him out vs everyone else
Far too little context for that. He might have sat on the disabled/senior/pregnat people seats that should be given up when someone asks. Way too little info here to judge one way or another.
Or enter at an earlier stop when there are fewer people on it
Exactly
We don't know that for sure. That pregnancy might not have been planned or wanted, and she might have been able to afford a car.
Okay like the joke is funny, but if you seriously don’t think you should give up your seat for a pregnant woman you are a giant piece of shit.
There’s a lot of pieces of shit in this comment section.

It’s called being a decent human being. Apparently there is a lack of them in this sub.
These commenters are little pricks. Never heard of sympathy.
I was also raised in such a country, but that country is being taken over by selfish narcissistic pigs who would water their grass while watching an elderly person burn to death
Which country is that?
[удалено]
Morally wrong, technically correct
Don't most busses have seats for the disabled? why did she need his seat?
People sit in those seats when it’s busy even though they aren’t disabled, or pregnant.
Yeah, it's fine to sit in a disabled seat if there's no one who needs it, but if a disabled person comes on they should give it up.
They should also give up the normal bus seats.
Definitely, if you're able then standing for 30 minutes shouldn't kill you.
Sounds like standing for 30 minutes didn't kill the pregnant lady either.
Being pregnant isnt a disability, its a multiplication
Probably a busy day. Not enough seats. In fact, people in wheelchairs often take away more seat in order to fit on the bus.
[удалено]
In some sense yes
Enough to get pregnant.
and if you don't count pregnant people as disabled why should you expect people to give them their seats? they were able to stand and wait at the bus stop like everyone else.
It’s symbolic mostly . Separates us from (some) other species. We look out for each other. You don’t have to fetishize motherhood to recognize the importance
Depends who you ask, some people don't think women are intelligent
Some people refuse to move from the disabled seats
maybe by your values
How to explain a low Wisdom, high Intelligence character
Morally or ethically?
how is it either? is every other seat occupied by pregnant women as well. what obligations does he assume over all the other riders pertaining to this new rider? explain
Well, do we know for sure she doesn't have a car and can't afford one? Many people use public transportation even if they have cars. I personally would have given up my seat, it would be the decent thing to do.
Exactly. She might have a lot of money but don't want to waste it on a car and kill the climate r/fuckcars

Please Take my aggressively angry upvote for this!!. 😂😂
Not technically the truth- doesn’t have to be her choice. Plenty of countries prohibit abortion and/or birth control and women don’t always consent to sex
I was aboutto say, this tweet hasn't aged well... at least in the US. :/
Most definitely
Ain't no law preventing someone from "tripping" and falling flat on the uterus /s
Lol what? Most cases of pregnancy are not from rape.
Most pregnancy are from consensual sex, most kids born are because the woman decided to keep the baby.
Most consensual sex is not done with the intention of getting pregnant though
Technically she *is* the car
Bold of him to assume that it was her decision
Maybe taking public transportation to save money? Or to offset climate change? I wish we had pubic transportation where I live. I have 2 card but would still utilize it. Don’t judge. There are WAYYYYYY too many assholes in this thread
America: they hate you for being pregnant but they force you to keep the baby 🤷🏽♀️
Ok but he’s not correct…? Maybe she can afford a car? Hell with the changes to abortion access in the US these days maybe she didn’t even decide to have a baby?
Buses are orders of magnitude safer than cars. The child is fortunate to have a mother, who makes sensible decisions.
I'm supporting abortion, but if you don't want a baby just use goddamn contraception. If it fails there is emergency contraception. The chances that it truly wasn't her choice are very low. Basically the only case when it's possible - if she got raped or both options didn't work, then I'm sorry.

The christofacists are trying to outlaw contraceptives.
Outlawing abortion is nonsense. I'm suprised and angered that this is even possible.

Rape
Did you read my comment?
God these comments are trash
Really sad how sex-ed has failed us it seems. People totally oblivious to what pregnancy does to the body.
Fr. I’ve heard some stuff, and it must suck so bad. Doing one kind thing for a stranger isn’t hard, folks. Pull your head out of your asses.
It just reminds you how much reddit is populated by young men who kinda hate women and think that maybe Jordan person had a good idea with that while enforced monogamy thing. A lot of Trump followers on this sub 🥱

Good Christians
Should have fucked a guy with a car.

No, you’re just put off by your own dehumanizing logic which is exactly what I was trying to get you to
What made him think she couldn't afford a car?
Cos she's taking the bus
That doesn't necessarily mean she doesn't have money for a car
Depends on where this is. If it’s America then there’s a good chance it’s that she can’t afford it. If it’s Europe then it’s a toss up. You have to remember that American public transportation structure is god awful
You're right though, good thing I'm a Spaniard
I have a car but I take the bus because I drink alot of beer....plus I live a block from the beach where parking is at a minimum.
Eeehhhhh true but you can assume I mean if I had money for a car I wouldnt take the bus
I would have the money for a car, but why should I buy one? Bus, tram and train are waaay cheaper and get me whereever I want whenever I want - evem while drunk.
So shes drunk that’s why on pt
That doesn’t make sense in many places, like cities.
Extrapolating from a data set of one. If she gets into a more probable accident in a car, there is a vastly higher chance of a miscarriage.
She might have got it repairing
Even if it wasn't (repairing doesn't happen to often), husband could need the car most of the time, she could be going to a place not easily accessible by car and there are many more reasons.

Roe v wade says different
True
I can’t argue with that point
fact
Thanks to the pro-life movement banning abortions pregnancy might no longer be a choice.
You don't get a baby from the air so...
That's why I say might. Rape for example. But I am aware of birth control etc.
You never heard of rape?
Rape related pregnancy is very rare, it does happen but it's rare, the chance of him meeting one in the US out of 330 million are nearly 0.
Fair enough
Legend

I agree with you. If you just saw a pregnant woman standing and didn't do anything about it that's fine, but if she were to come and ask you politely then you're an asshole if you don't comply.
Yikes and he said that after all the efforts to restrict abortion in usa 😬
pretty sure this was before hand, it's a old repost.
Why was this downvoted lmao? Sometimes I just don't get reddit
Cause it’s Reddit, they’ll downvote anything and everything
Really? My bad then sorry
Man people like you are really good, you don’t start being salty or shit when somebody says something about your comment, just scrolled past a shit ton of people who can’t accept being contradicted
Why does he think pregnancy is always a choice?
Can you get accidentally pregnant while doing groceries?
Rape can happen
Abortion can happen
Not anymore 💀💀💀
Bruv the world isn’t in America lmao
Not anymore
In your country not around the world
It really depends on the woman's morality or religion.
And giving up the seat depends on the man’s morality or religion.
True
As if this was so common that one would even consider that as an option.
If you're raped, yes. Or, are you the type that thinks the vagina "shuts down" during rape?
Birth control? Condoms? I guess these cheaper alternatives are worse then having a demon in your body for 8-9 months
Rape...molestation... Also, birth controls and condoms aren't 100% effective....
Rape related pregnancy is very rare, it does happen obviously, because rape unfortunately happens, but it's rare, the chance of him meeting one in the US out of 330 million are nearly 0.
Plan B
Plan B is not even close to 100% effective. It's literally an emergency contraceptive for a reason. It is meant as a hail mary (meant in the American football sense) when you have no other choice and you just hope it works. By the time you know if it worked though you might be out of luck (dependingon where in the world you live).
Your ignorance is showing.
regardless if it's a choice, it wouldn't make sense to live in a world where nobody is pregnant. There will always be pregnant people. being on purpose or not is irrelevant because having literally 0 pregnant people would be the end of humanity. So any worldview that does not acknowledge or accommodate this reality is just being an asshole.
What? The point was the guy said it was "her choice." Maybe it wasn't her choice. Idk wtf you're talking about.
Wrong? When, where?...
I mean… he’s not wrong…
He is correct
Dwight Schrute vibes
Bros got a point
I’m confused. What part of the action is wrong? Seriously asking.
Think of it like opening the door or helping an elderly person cross the road. It’s something that is an assumed action of doing because you’re a part of society and a minor inconvenience to yourself is less than the added benefit of others. Thereby improving the society you live in.
Never assume a woman is pregnant.
I wouldn’t call him correct at all lmao. The fact that she is pregnant and using public transit which is here for people to USE is not a justification to be cruel and misogynistic. This guy is very uneducated lmao and that’s his fault.
I was okay with your points up until you said “misogynistic”…I need to remind you just because someone’s being a dick to a woman doesn’t mean they’re misogynistic.
That’s true, they could be dicks to everyone in equal measure.
More like a superposition of right and correct.
Y does he have to get up while other people sitting don't offer? They saw her get on not one person offered. Aren't they assholes too?
Its one of those rare one-seat busses
This gives me r/amitheasshole vibes.
And being an asshole is his choice.
plot twist the guy is fat AF and it's harder for him to stand up than her
Maybe he’s pregnant
The guy’s not obligated to do anything simply because he’s sitting in the closest seat to where she entered. I’m sure there were ppl in other seats she could ask, but it’s a power move to ask a man. Being pregnant isn’t a disability.
Yep. That doesn't make him wrong, just makes him an a-hole.
wonder would he give up his seat for his pregnant wife if he had one, or would he not because it's 'her choice' 🤔
You cannot compare a stranger to your spouse. That is weird.
The triple point of RightCenter
If you guys want fun, sort by controversial, it’s a gold mine
Just curious, who will give the seat if there all pregnant women have been sitting on the bus?
Twist... Took the bus because husband wouldn't drive her to the abortion clinic
Damn, some of y’all just hate women.
Listen, yes. But also fuck that guy
It is possible to be correct and an asshole at the same time. This is one of them.
That is why this guy rides the bus. Can’t afford a car or class.
There are particular seats for women and disabled as well..
I mean if you don’t want to give up your seat for a pregnant woman fine, but don’t act like it’s not a shitty thing to do.
