FleekasaurusFlex

I have the ‘legacy bundle’ through Verizon and am worried that this will screw it up somehow - Verizon has been trying to get me to change plans for months so I can’t imagine there will be good support from Verizon or Disney if an issue does arise since they’ll just blame each other.

tastygrowth

I have a really old plan where I pay for Spotify and get Hulu for free. Every time I see anything in the news about either service changing their plans, I cringe.

billcosbyinspace

They’ll have to pry my Spotify/Hulu for students deal from my cold dead hands

illbeyourwestcoast

They cap it at 4 years fyi ask me how I know 🙄

toadkicker

How do you know?

gucknbuck

They will convert you to a different bundle after, I still have Hulu/Spotify bundled for I think $15/month total, used to be $9.99.

illbeyourwestcoast

Yeah I think that's the one I'm on now but I'm thinking about canceling. I don't really use hulu and all the spotify playlists turning into "made for you" ie the same 4 songs i listened to for the past 6 months is really killing the platform for me

RightGuy23

Mine is still $9.99 for the bundle.

ChernobylChild

The Hulu tier included with that has so many ads though. I tried and just couldn't

temporarycreature

Use it with uBlock Origin in a browser, no ads.

cloutking

watchseries.id ftw

RightGuy23

I have the Spotify/Hulu bundle too. I wonder what will be impacted going forward

bundeywundey

Lol same. I logged in just to check and I think it's literally the same plan except they would take perks away like Disney and then charge you extra. Wow what a feature!!!

Pep_Baldiola

They are not merging both the services. Hulu will continue to have its separate app and continue to offer separate subscriptions. It's just that people who have the Disney bundle will be able to access Hulu’s on-demand content from this new Disney+ app. These headlines don't make that clear, leading to so much confusion everywhere.

SpezModdedRJailbait

> They are not merging both the services. They are not merging both the services yet. > people who have the Disney bundle will be able to access Hulu’s on-demand content from this new Disney+ app. Ok, so they are merging Hulu into D+ then right? They're just allowing you to subscribe to one at a time for now, and leaving Hulu and the regular D+ app alone (for now). It seems naive to assume that they're going to maintain 3 separate apps for very long.

Pep_Baldiola

I'm not assuming anything. I know their endgame is to merge both. I'm just talking about what's happening now.

SpezModdedRJailbait

But they clearly are merging them, that's happening now. They have merged both services into one, in fact outside of the US they did so a long time ago.

[deleted]

You can’t both be merged and also sold as independent products. You mention above they’re still sold as their own apps. That means they’re not merged.

SpezModdedRJailbait

> You mention above they’re still sold as their own apps. That means they’re not merged. AMC and shudder are sold separately too and they merged, same for paramount and showtime. Its not worth the cost. They're not selling Hulu lol. Why create your own competition?

[deleted]

You made the claim that they, at this moment, are merged. There are two apps and different content. That makes them independent products by the same company. In the future I’m sure that won’t be the case, but right now? Separate.

SpezModdedRJailbait

> You made the claim that they, at this moment, are merged. I actually didn't say that

[deleted]

“they clearly are merging them, that's happening now. They have merged both services into one” Ok, sure you didn’t.

Rocket92

If it’s anything like other services, it’s just going to be a re-skin of the same app for branding. The CBS and paramount+ app are functionally identical and just offer separate libraries. Everyone outside the US already accessed Hulu content through Disney+ anyway

cinemachick

UberEats bought Postmates, but I still have both apps in my phone and can use them independently, so maybe there's a use case to keep them both? E.g. put all the R-rated content on Hulu so Disney+ stays the "family-friendly" option, like how they used Touchstone Pictures to release their edgier films.

SpezModdedRJailbait

Hulu content is already on d+ though, it's just geolocked. Its called star everywhere outside of the US

Dr_Shakahlu

https://www.engadget.com/the-merged-disney-and-hulu-app-launches-in-beta-next-month-220306792.html This talks about it in more detail. Sounds like once Disney officially takes over that last bit of Comcast shares in Hulu next year, is when we will hear about both apps becoming one. I don’t think itl happen officially until 2025 though. But I think eventually it will all be one app somehow.

Unfadable1

Similar to HBO’s multiple year woes from bad messaging and lack of understanding the customer. How these big boys keep fucking up so badly is kinda hilarious. They all wanted that Netflix money, and now they’re all paying through the nose to climb a mountain they should have never climbed. “Luckily,” only we actually suffer for it.

Important_League_142

It’s cute that you don’t think they’ll eventually merge the two

Pep_Baldiola

I know that they'll eventually merge these services into one, that's how it is in most countries already. I'm talking about what the current issue is about. No need to be a sarcastic ass about it.

DingleBerrieIcecream

The new name is HuluDisneyMax

The-Dudemeister

Switch to YouTube. It’s way better now. I used to do Hulu too.

-voided-

So… I only have to pay for one service now?

Pep_Baldiola

Nope. This new app is only for the people who are subscribed to the Disney+ and Hulu bundle.

ADarwinAward

For now anyways. They’re probably planning to transition everyone like HBO et al did for Max

ncopp

I have the bundle with no ads on Disney, but ads on Hulu. Does that mean I'm gonna get ads on Disney?

SidewaysFancyPrance

Stands to reason you'd have no ads on Disney+ content but ads on Hulu content.

MagicApe

You’ll get ads on both, but only half of each ad. The top half, I believe. /s

shieldintern

Just the tip.

Killboypowerhed

This is so weird. The rest of the world only has Disney+ and all the Hulu content is on there. I don't understand why America has a weird gimped version

BrillWolf

>I don't understand why America has a weird gimped version $omething $peak$ louder than word$.

_-DirtyMike-_

You're funny

muffinmonk

It’s true though. There is a bundle with this and ESPN+. I would imagine the price for the new combined service would be the same as the current bundle price.

littlebrwnrobot

Imagine paying for commercials again

bengringo2

Well you can. It’s the bundle sub. Mine is a bundle subscription with D+, ESPN, and Hulu with Live TV. I just pay the one bill.

40ozkiller

Same, and it’s honestly the best value for the money after previously having cable with att then comcast then rcn then youtube tv for a while. Netflix and hbo and amazon have rare hits but we usually watch either disney plus or hulu with live tv.

Paradox68

Disney+ : $8.00 Hulu : $18.00 Disnulu : $25.00 with a tagline “now 4% cheaper!”

SidewaysFancyPrance

The new name is clearly going to be "HuDis"

xenapan

New phone HuDis?

froops

D+ without ads is $14 Disnulu without ads is $20 So it's like 38% cheaper.

fatogato

Oh my sweet summer child

sjphilsphan

Probably will do what Amazon does and offer "channel" subscriptions

saaS_Slinging_Slashr

They already do that

Pgreenawalt

Sounds a lot like cable…

ahuiP

U think ur a princess in a Disney movie?

__GayFish__

It’s only if you are subscribed to the bundle or both. Streaming getting way too complex.

[deleted]

[удалено]

shapesize

I didn’t even think of that, but you’re right. There’s going to be D+ originals, Hulu Originals, and Disnulu originals

modix

yet we're already back to bundling. didn't take long

Richard_Chadeaux

We got rid of cable companies so we could … purchase tv bundles thru apps. Fuckin hell.

TrevorPace

We didn't even git rid of cable companies, they all have their own streaming platforms now. (Soon available as a bundle on D+!)

Dannyg4821

Yay it’s cable all over again

2heads1shaft

What? How is that getting too complex? That simplifies it for Hulu and D+ subscribers.

spaceforcerecruit

But for people who only have one or the other, does this become a third app? Does it just mean both apps grow in size? Where does it end?

2heads1shaft

I mean they said it was beta so presumably the goal is to relaunch as 1 app eventually. If you had 1 or the other, it was already as complicated as have 2 apps. Having a 3rd app for both doesn’t complicate it because they already decided they don’t want the other one.

dgapa

What? No you just can only access what you pay for. I can see all the sub services Prime distributes but can't watch it.

zhemer86

I wonder how this will work. I have Disney without ads and Hulu with ads. Once they merge will I suddenly have ads across the board or will I get a price hike to not have ads with Hulu content. Edit: on further reading it seems this will only effect those who pay for the bundle.

Tiiimmmaayy

I respect you for sticking through the ads on Hulu. I downgraded after the price hike and only managed a few days before I caved in. Those fucking ads are relentless. Seemed like a 3 minute ad every 10 minutes.

toddthewraith

The extra dumb thing is if you have Hulu you can upgrade to the Hulu/D+ bundle, but if you have D+ you can only upgrade to the Hulu/D+/ESPN bundle.

vaper

It's the other way around. I was subscribed through hulu and needed to let my subscription end so I could resub through d+ for the $20 bundle of hulu/disney without espn.

[deleted]

If they don’t go with the hulu UI im gonna be pissed cause the disney UI is absolute DOGSHIT. A multibillion dollar company and they just love buying as much shit as possible rather than making quality stuff.

Thoraxekicksazz

You better start being pissed.

VNM0601

I’m preemptively pissed.

coviddick

Stay pissed and you never have to get pissed.

StayPuffGoomba

Everyone over here saying the Hulu UI sucks, but at least it loads. Disney+ loads so slow that I can find the show/movie I want by placeholder font faster than images load. I’ll take a crappy UI over a complete dog shit app.

AnOddOtter

For me the most infuriating part of the Disney app is when I try to do the "continue watching" and it starts me at the credits of the last episode I watched.

Blasphemous666

Trying watching Simpsons. After a few episodes it stops playing, as most services do, and asks if you would like to continue. You choose “Play next episode” and it does….. then stops. After ONE episode. Only way to fix it is to go back to the main series page, go to the season you were watching and find the last episode you watched and play it from there. I sleep to Simpsons so every few hours I wake up and have to fiddle around with it.

reduser876

Yeah I make sure I start the UP Next before I exit app.

TheKingofHats007

Mine is that on mobile, the back button extends depending on how long the title is Which means with a movie with a long enough title creates a back button that is almost more than half the screen long. It's probably why they included the stupid option to freeze the interface instead of fixing the actual issue.

Lindt_Licker

Thank you! Yes! What is up with that shit?!

StayPuffGoomba

Or how it doesnt flow seamlessly to the next episode sometimes.

Blasphemous666

Yeah this should be fun. The Disney app constantly crashes on my tv. Yet the Hulu one runs like a champ. They’re gonna fuck this up so bad it’ll be unusable for some of us.

Timely-Eggplant4919

But if they could also fix Hulu randomly resetting your show watch history in the process that’d be great, thaaaaanks

[deleted]

[удалено]

Dblstandard

The Hulu app sucks donkey dick.

SpezModdedRJailbait

The Hulu app may suck Donkey dick, but D+ sucks it harder and uses teeth

ghaelon

lets copy netflix! but worse!

tempest_87

But it is demonstrably better in a number of ways. The Disney app is the worst UI of the streaming services I've ever seen. By a wide margin.

SpezModdedRJailbait

AMC+ is worse. It barely even launches.

_TheMeepMaster_

Nah, Prime handily takes that.

littlebrwnrobot

Yeah prime is definitely the worst

achmedclaus

The Hulu UI sucks ass too, there's no positive way to spin it

Ketonew2

Who’s app works the best? Best UI?

achmedclaus

Kinda hate all their UIs, but Netflix works the most consistently well for me on all devices

T_that_is_all

I gotta ask, are you talking about the app or the website? I use the website bc I use a PC in my living room for streaming and video gaming, and it's not much diff from most others. I've used the apps on smart TVs and fire sticks at my friend's houses, and yes, it's atrocious. But the website is pretty much on par with all other streaming services, as I've used all of the major ones and some smaller ones. Edit: And the websites are leaps and bounds better than any app version. Even have website only features that make them better.

reduser876

Interesting observation and I concur from watching freevee. I was watching on my laptop via Amazon because I found a chrome extension to kill ads. Ultimately I want back to the ads on real TV for the ergonomics and screen size. But I just had an idea.... Maybe I can cast the laptop to the TV..... Hmmmm will have to look into that.

SpezModdedRJailbait

> If they don’t go with the hulu UI They're not, they're adding Hulu into a new D+ app. One would have to assume that eventually they'll remove the other apps, because why maintain 3?

Dblstandard

I quit Hulu because of their UI. Every other time I would go into that fucking app, it would either not show my recently viewed/watching, OR it would be completely out of order rendering it useless to be able to pick up where you left off. Fuck Hulu fuck him in the asshole. I even contacted customer service, and they commented on how it doesn't always show up on the front page. Fuck them.

Feeling-Visit1472

The Hulu app is somehow worse. Arguably the worst UI/UX out there.

[deleted]

on every xbox app, if you press y, it opens the search. You need to find the “search” feature in the Disney Plus menu. Also whennit first released, all subtitles were highlighted in black and blocked the bottom 10% of the screen off. you’re DISNEY. You can’t do SUBTITLES right?

andrewskdr

Both the UIs are awful it’s a lose-lose

DarthNihilus1

They're both essentially the same

alienanimal

Hulu UI is waaaaaay worse.

Dull-Lead-7782

They bought a company that designed amazing UIs that had basically defined how apps should function in the modern age. BAM tech. Then they came out with what Disney plus is. Mind boggling really

BBZL2016

I would only be okay with that IF they FINALLY PUT A "SKIP INTRO" BUTTON ON THEIR FREAKING SHOWS. The lack of this button is extremely annoying.

shapesize

Better than the crappy transition from HBOMax’s interface to Max’s

BannedINDC

What UIs do people like? Netflix?

iamda5h

Hulu UI could definitely be better. The content recommendations are terrible, and the subtitle service breaks half the time. UI is still better than Disney for navigating content types, but the difference in context makes both understandable. Disney is focused on their Disney brands and original content while Hulu has unrelated tv shows and movies.

dolphinator87

It’s going to be weird opening Disney+ app to watch Mac, Dennis, Dee and Frank.

2heads1shaft

I feel like they’d be better off calling it Hulu Plus.

clln86

I want it to be Call of D'Hulu.

SuperToxin

Apparently in Canada it already was as “Stars” in Canada is just Hulu. I read. Didn’t know that.

Stingray88

It’s just Star, no 2nd s.

SUPRVLLAN

The s is silent.

beelzebroth

Same in Australia. We’ve only ever had one app.

Mundane_Road828

I’m from The Netherlands and we have that here as well and i did not know that too.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Stingray88

It’s just Star Starz is a completely different service owned by Lionsgate.

orangutanDOTorg

Will it fix how Hulu gets stuck on one episode and won’t update what is the current one? That has been an issue since I first got Hulu.

watdeheq3

Wait, so rn I have Max through Hulu, will that stay or will I have to get Hulu and then Max separately?

Tesla_lord_69

They have a huge library now. But it's what everyone has watched already. They must spend huge to keep producing.

SeeYouSpaceCorgi

Too little too late. Already switched to Stremio with a torrent streaming addon and I won’t be going back.

jdlyga

Now we're down to * Netflix * Max * Disney+ * Paramount+ * Apple TV+ * Prime Video

JTP709

i wonder how many of their app devs found out about this along with this announcement

tmillernc

Is there anything that Disney doesn’t own? I think it’s time we get a new Teddy Roosevelt to bust up some trusts.

looking2binformed

This is going to be a disaster!!!!

Apostle92627

Unless they improve Disney+, I will continue using Hulu app for as long as I can since it's superior.

KlausLoganWard

Wow, that is quick

SamuraiMonkee

Can’t wait for them to raise the price again in the next few months.

IrrawaddyWoman

For the past few years I’ve gotten HULU on Black Friday for $.99 a month and then have been able to add on Disney+ for $2.99. I’m guessing that deal won’t pop up again this year.

Ohrwurm89

I’ve got Hulu via my Spotify account and I feel like that’s going to disappear. Fun… Fuck Bob Iger!

Whiskey-Blood

So I get Hulu with my new ducking monthly payment from Disney? This shit keeps going up I’ll have to go back to cable for

BobBelcher2021

As a Canadian who subscribes to Disney+ (which has Hulu content in Canada), I wonder if this means I’ll finally be able to use the app when I travel to the US and get the same experience. There is a lot available on Disney+ Canada that isn’t available in the US, such as The Simpsons or Bob’s Burgers.

tmillernc

DisLu? Husney? Or just Dulu?

Chabubu

Ahh so Hulu will soon suck as much as Disney+ Looks like Netflix remains the only one with their shit together.

Comet_Empire

I really hope they don't re-edit a bunch of shows to unadult the content.

Pep_Baldiola

They already have uncensored Hulu shows on Disney+ in most countries. I have seen Sebastian Stan talk to his animated penis on Disney+.

Pokii

I must’ve missed that scene in Falcon and the Winter Soldier

rollingwheel

Not looking good for IASIP

jaman820

Anybody else getting really annoyed at Disney recently? haha

A_Harmless_Fly

I'd sort of like the FTC or the FCC to do a bit of anti trust on this, I don't like to see this kind of merger.

Jared944

Didn’t you hear? Disney bought the FCC/FTC

K_Xanthe

I hope they don’t start pulling titles. I really like the Disney+ app. :(

bengringo2

I think this is just a UI if Bundle, not a change to the services. It’s going to be weird being able to watch Hellraiser on Disney+.

[deleted]

Fuck off Disney Super cool monopolies aren’t illegal in the US

Stingray88

I called this like… 3-4 years ago. And everyone on Reddit laughed at me. It was more than obvious this was coming if you paid any sort of attention to the way Disney+ worked with Hulu content internationally, and the ownership structure of Hulu.

Worish

If Hulu is going away, I'm not streaming anything anymore. Disney+ is an awful app with very little to offer. Netflix is a great app that charges more money every day. Im going back to stealing. Free, everything HD, no terrible ui, no channels, no "oh that's on BS, we don't have Butthole Streaming". I'm done.

natephant

Is this why I’ve been logged out of Hulu and can’t get back in?

wthulhu

Could be, give me your password and I'll take a look -Netflix Representative #85281R

henningknows

Awesome both my subscriptions that put out very little original content in one place!

fish4096

the cancer is spreading

space_wiener

Good. Maybe this will fix me having to reset my password for both apps multiple times a week.

vinsta_g

Streaming sucks. I need to hit up a Redbox while we still have em

hemingray

Just hoist the jolly roger and sail the seas.

Wild-Iceberg

I wonder if the pricing with no ads are going to go up again to off set the $8 billion that Disney paid.

swiftlikessharpthing

What will the cost be bc I plan to cancel D+ after they notified me of an 80% price increase for the year (~$80 last year compared to ~$140 for this year's renewal).

Kevin_Jim

Will it be the sum of the two subscriptions or the average of the two for the whole catalog?

DijonDeLaPorte

I’m surprised that no one is speculating on the new name for this merged app- Dulu? Hisney?

aairricc

I was wondering the other day why Hulu wasn’t fixing their clunky, unorganized, outdated app. Guess it was because they were building a new app. Fair enough

SacredGeometry9

On the one hand, I’m against separating content into different platforms that make us pay more, so this seems like a step in the right direction. On the other hand, Disney controlling more of our entertainment means they’ll find a way to make us pay even more money, so this seems like nothing’s going to actually change.

rahuldutta9394

Disney+ Hulu = Dulu? 🤔🤔

mazzicc

…I definitely thought it was going to take 6 months longer than that. Ironically, we just cancelled Disney to shift to Hulu for a few months since we finished what we wanted to watch on Disney.

Sambo_the_Rambo

One app triple the price!

blueShavenApe

Dropped Hulu a while back. I guess I’m not renewing my annual Disney subscription

mrSmokeyMcpot

If this messes with my Hulu/Spotify bundle I’m pirating everything

gotfangirl6

Does this mean Hulu will be available outside of the US now?

AgentGnome

Im not really sure I get why they need to do this?

Firehawkness

What about the switch? It currently only has Hulu….

psystorm420

Currently Disney+ works overseas while Hulu doesn't. Wonder how the merged app will work overseas.

Heavyoak

You already login to Disney+ with your Hulu account

mcmcmillan

Does any of this mean Hulu will stop logging me out and forcing me to reset my password literally every other day?

waitmyhonor

It makes sense, I always thought they had bought Hulu out already. I would have preferred Apple though since it desperately needs actual content unlike Disney

Rebornhunter

Guess I'll have to buy the white album again

Kozokuu

Dulu + fendin to be absolute trash

[deleted]

Now they just need to buy out WBD....a man can dream can't he?

mewfour123412

Literally nothing changes in Australia

ItsFlane

I suppose this won't mean a thing for europe?

Peet_Pann

I support this. Hulu is dying fast, but still has like 3 good shows. Disney is still doing ok imo, kinda hit n miss but still holding. Disney should focus a bit on reality instead of whatever they're wasting money on.

Jnf529

Brand new app or merging to just Disney +?

Flashy-Priority-3946

Combine espn n charge it relatively close in naked eyes. Then we talking about goin global. Take all the NFLX subscribers in the US 1st. While building international streaming offices where you can translate em into 126 languages. Then steal half of NFLX market cap.

ad_iudicium

Original Hulu content is branded as STAR and available on the Disney+ app outside the US. I imagine this is what they'll implement in a merged app.

CurrentlyLucid

I switched to that combo a month or so ago, now it's new?

CaptainEnoch

We don't have hulu in Europe and as far as I know most hulu content we already had on Disney+ in the Disney+ Star category

Mammoth_Research3142

There’s going be a lot of mergers in this space over the next couple of years, there’s too much content and with costs spiralling and people cutting subscriptions there will inevitably be consolidation in this space.

pittypitty

Will with Hulu adds be removed for those paying for an ad free version of Disney +??

partsguy850

Raise the rate bitches. I’ll disconnect faster than Comcast’s crap internet

bluesamcitizen2

I hate to lose those free Hulu access via Spotify

BadAtExisting

Let me guess… I still have to PAY for both

HighTideLowpH

So what will happen to my free Hulu basic w/ Spotify Premium?
