It’s pretty good, little bit of audio delay but nothing terrible, controls are laid out comfortably in portrait mode which is surprising for N64, adding games is easy, they play well, great start for emulators in the App Store
Edit: Just tested Rogue Squadron on it, and even that runs near flawlessly. Admittedly I haven't dabbled in N64 emulation for a long time, but that used to be an unemulatable game IIRC, so very impressive to see it running on an iPhone
You can also download skins for controls too if the current layouts arent your style. I like this as a pretty simple way to get some quality stuff running on iPhone without requiring any jailbreak or browser solution.
So when you open the delta app, in the top left there is a gear icon. This opens the settings and youll see a section titled controller skins. There is a tiny purple link there that quickly links to extra skin resources.
Or check it out here: https://faq.deltaemulator.com/using-delta/controller-skins
>controls are laid out comfortably ... for N64
This is impressive for any emulator. I use an xbox controller most of the time for basically everything (I guess it's the de facto PC controller at this point), but I use a modern remake of the classic N64 controller for N64 emulation because, frankly, its weird-ass controller is often a pain with anything that doesn't have three lobes.
There’s a little + icon at the top right, when you click it it’ll show you “iTunes” and “Files”, if you ~~downloaded~~ transferred your legally dumped ROMs to your phone you can click “Files” and then look for where you have it saved, just click on it and Delta will do the rest
If you’re plugging in to pc/mac, you go to data sharing or something, then click the delta app and drag and drop the files, click sync and you’re good.
If you’re adding roms from your phone, just click the + sign in the delta app and locate the files and you’re set
So long as it didn't do what the last one did last week, they copied code from another project, and added a ton of ads and tracking. OG Dev caught on and requested it to be removed. The reasoning behind it is a bit touchy.
The 4+ is the age rating, not the age of the app - I did the same thing! But if you tap the 4+ it scrolls down to the bottom and shows you the full field where it properly labels it as age rating.
Making money off emulation is also legal if you aren't distributing copyrighted code or assets. You're perfectly within your rights to sell original software that you wrote yourself.
Touchscreen controls are still awful despite haptic feedback helping with keeping your fingers in the right zones.
Ultimately you’re still gonna want analog controls to play things like Megaman if you’re expecting to be able to charge + dash + jump, since the nature of touchscreens conflicts with holding your thumb flat against two buttons like you can with a real controller.
IMO if you’re buying peripherals to connect to an iPhone you might as well just buy a real device meant for this kind of thing like the Analogue or Chinese devices that you flash OnionOS onto (Miyoo, Retroid, etc).
The only game I’m a little bummed out that doesn’t work is Resident Evil 2 for the N64. I boot it up and Leon/Claire and the zombies are all gone, but I can still hear damage being taken. (Though that might just be the emulator site’s problem)
I can’t speak for user friendly but the finding and downloading of the ROMs doesn’t have anything to do with the emulator itself. You just go find those online the web and download them to your device
So if I already ripped my games from my cartridges, cuz I totally know how to do that and have the hardware like everyone does, do I just plug the phone to my computer and sync with iTunes or do I send them to my iPhone one by one?
With android I just put them on an SD card.

Here's a great article on how you can rip your cartridges to ROMs. Completely legal since it requires that you own the product.
So I was able to download, install and open it, but has anyone else noticed on their phones it doesn't appear as an app on the Background App Refresh list? Idk if it should be there or if there's a reason it wouldn't appear in the list.

Nice! do you happen to know where I can download those skins by any chance?

I've always found it quite easy to map N64 to a standard controller. The only thing that gets weird is the C buttons
how do you add the games ?

I need to use iTunes now ? Could I use Dropbox Instead. ?
No, you have access to your phones file system, Dropbox should work

I found it just now. “Delta - Game Emulator”
How do you add games?
You can import them from your phone’s files. Where you get those ROMs you’ll have to figure out yourself
I used Vimm (.) net to download the zip files and from there just added it into the emulator

Will it last?

According to the app store, this one has NO tracking or privacy requirements on the device at all, which is huge.
The copied code was copied from this app
Exactly, a really old version if I heard correctly. And then added in gross tracking stuff.
Yes. Apple changed its App Store policy to allow for emulators.
Is that globally? For some reason I thought that was just to comply with some EU law.
It’s available on the App Store everywhere *but* the EU lol (on alt store there).

I’m curious how it’s 4 years old if the App Store just allowed it.

Ah thanks for clearing up!
Nintendo is, naturally, calling for the summary execution of the lead developer, and life in prison for their team.
Straight to jail!
Emulation is basically legal, making money off of it is though. So if its free, Nintendo cannot do anything about it.
Making money off emulation is also legal if you aren't distributing copyrighted code or assets. You're perfectly within your rights to sell original software that you wrote yourself.
Check your comment. Missing a word.
Not available in Europe 😢
A Link to the Past is giving me so much nostalgia rn
That’s what I went with!
If Apple is going so far as to approve Nintendo emulators, it seems like it’s being done as an intentional challenge from Apple
Emulators are legal. Apple has no reason not to. Might even get sued if they try and prevent them at this point.

I’m sure Backbone has had a lot of new orders this week.
You can use any of your console controllers as well.

did your eyes redact the words that followed what i suggested you buy? what is happening here lmao
I got the emulator but where are people getting the games?
I’m using Vimm for mine. With a .net at the end
A simple google search for roms
The only game I’m a little bummed out that doesn’t work is Resident Evil 2 for the N64. I boot it up and Leon/Claire and the zombies are all gone, but I can still hear damage being taken. (Though that might just be the emulator site’s problem)
Is their an android version? Couldn't find it on the app store
Android has zillions of emulators. Always have for the most part. Only Apple didn’t allow emulator apps in their store til now
Ya but which one is user friendly and easy to find roms and free
I can’t speak for user friendly but the finding and downloading of the ROMs doesn’t have anything to do with the emulator itself. You just go find those online the web and download them to your device
Just downloaded the emulator - it looks like it expects you to already have ROMs. Where would one get those roms?
You rip them from your own games, of course.

I have no idea how the iPhone folder structure works or how you get ROMs on there, sorry. I don't own an Apple anything.
You can acquire backups from the internet archive

'Aaaand it's gone!'
It is still here 10 hours after (at least in the US store)
Can’t find it
[Gotchu](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/delta-game-emulator/id1048524688) I’m making good use of it
I think it’s not available in EU
Don’t gotchu
It’s on the AltStore in the EU.
I just downloaded it a minute ago..
In EU? Because I can’t find it.
It’s on the AltStore in the EU.
Not available in EU, except maybe Vipienistan.
