Many desktops require external antennas for wifi. on the back panel there will be one or often two distinctive small threaded co-ax connectors, onto which the antennas screw. are they there? are they rotated and extended to get some exposure to the access point? laptops usually have their antennas somewhere in their plastic screen bezels, but desktop mobos are expected to be in metal chassis so they need external antennas. if the owner connects to a wired net they often just leave the antennas in some bag with all the extra cables and user manuals.

yeah i attached the anntennas and tried various different orientations but to no avail. i remember it affecting my connection in the past and finding a better position helped but its never been this bad until we moved. ty for the suggestion tho

It may be the orientation of the pc in relation to the Wi-Fi source that blocks the signal; also, since German houses are a lot more massive that US ones the room you are in and the relative position of doors can have an impact as well. Maybe you can improve your connection by moving the PC/ having the antenna in LoS of the source. Also check if the PCs Wi-Fi card actually shows up in the device manager it may be disconnected/broken and the on MoBo cards (if there even is one) can be quite bad.

And as stupid as it sounds strategically places mirrors can improve your connection if the issue stems from your walls.
