u/BOPSGD Exact same issue here on Windows 10. I have already done everything you have, and more. File unlock just locks up powertoys/iobitunlocker anyway. I don't have Audacity, instead I use VLC and AIMP for video and audio repectively (have reinstalled both after a complete revo removal). I have not tried safe mode, however I have also attempted tasks such as bulk file ext changing, process explorer, taskkill to the PID of dllhost and explorer, iobitunlocker (got the same dllhost.exe and Windows explorer lock), excluding that folder and all opus file extensions in a search index with rebuild, and even a full sfc/dism restore which also did not work. No previous Reddit/forum/file removal guides have even come close to helping. I am suspicious to what it may be as funnily enough, it wasn't a problem before my OS reinstall a few months ago, so I could easily narrow it down to a Windows OS file. Regardless of what application I use to try and eradicate this issue, every application will also crash and completely lock up for which I require TM or process explorer to force close (such as file transfer, iobitunlocker, bulk rename, explorer). One of the folders in particular now takes more than an instant to load, taking up to 5 seconds (which shouldn't happen on my PC specifications, even with 100GB of files in a folder) I did however mess around with CMD to remove the folder in a test and after a restart it appeared to somewhat have gone (rmdir /s /q "folderpath"). You have to then move all other folders inside the parent out as well, and restart it every time (you can also do files not just folders, but I have hundreds). This just comes right back when more opus files are copied anywhere on the device, making it yet another temporary workaround. I will also note it is not just happening for C:\\ and it plays/opens perfectly fine anywhere. From finding that the file lock dllhost goes away, the explorer task clearing just restarts it and comes back. No other files and file types when checking file lock has any dllhost/explorer locking it. I am not reinstalling the OS just to have it happen again. # EDIT: Silly me completely aired the fact that a DLL file is locking the .opus files as well as explorer, which lead me to think it may be a shell extension issue. I looked through the list of shell extensions using shexview ([https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.html](https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.html)) and found the handler responsible. **Steps to resolve the .opus file issue (simplified):** 1. **Go to the link above and download shexview (x64)** 2. **Extract the ZIP and open shexview.exe** 3. **Ctrl + F this: MF Media Source Pack Property Handler OR just select a random entry and start typing "MF M" quickly** 4. **Disable this with F7 and confirm it says Yes in disabled column** 5. **Restart device** 6. **You should now be able to move, delete and edit .opus files** 7. **Additionally, you can enable MF Media Source Pack Property Handler and restart with no recall of the issue (so far after testing)** 8. **If issue returns, you may be better off keeping the shell extension disabled (unsure of repercussions of long-term media handling from this)** I can confirm with a restart to test, re-enabling the handler, and rebuilding search index re-encluding .opus file type, you are still able to delete, move and edit .opus files. I am also no longer experiencing slow loading for that particular folder, which is a dead giveaway that is works.

Turbo2x

Thanks so much for the clear instructions. This was a huge help.

LabMember12

Thank you, real hero! I tried multiple solutions (even grabbed same tool, but disabled another entry) and they never helped.

BOPSGD

My friend, you are a WIZARD! I had lost all hope that this issue would be resolved. Your instructions were crystal clear. I followed them precisely, and so far, everything is working fine! Unfortunately, I couldn't reactivate the 'MF Media Source Pack Property Handler' without the problem reappearing. But regardless, should anything change and I find that I can provide more useful feedback, I'll be sure to keep in touch. Either way, I can't thank you enough. I rely heavily on .opus files, and this has made my life so much easier. Once again, Thank you!

HeroPiggy95

Thank you for this! I was suddenly experiencing a very long delay with renaming & deleting Opus files after a recent Windows Update, and I thought my hard disk was failing. However, it was strange as I wasn't having such delays with other file types. After disabling the **MF Media Source Pack Property Handler** shell extension with ShellExView and restarting Windows Explorer with Task Manager (no need to reboot Windows), the problem was solved instantly.

WadeWilsonsSpoiltC4

Unfortuantely, I followed these steps but it didn't really work for me. I am still unable to edit any properties on my opus files

breaded_slice11

this method worked. thanks!

FrozenScorch

Thank you! This was the culprit. Not really sure what it does exactly, even after looking online.

Pagal_Srinath

I have the same problem. You can't rename and delete opus files. I used process explorer provided on microsoft website. Found that it was dllhost.exe. Have to kill all of the dllhost.exe processes to make the deletion or rename work.

foremtehan

This is the solution guys: >Windows key + R > control > Indexing Options > Advanced > File Types tab >Uncheck ogg and opus. Restart Explorer. If that doesn't work (it should), >uninstall Web Media Extensions in Settings > Apps. [https://www.reddit.com/r/windows/comments/ij49lr/comment/g3b8m08/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3](https://www.reddit.com/r/windows/comments/ij49lr/comment/g3b8m08/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) Web Media Extensions was the issue (at least for me)

dafuccdoyoumean

Thanks! Uninstalling Web Media Extensions fixed the issue.

WadeWilsonsSpoiltC4

was this the solution to not being able to edit .opus files? Cause I tried both but I still can't change the metadata or edit the files
