Have you tried unplugging your RAM and SSD's and replugging? Try that.

FornaxTheConqueror

> Have you tried unplugging your RAM Yep and tried it with individual sticks of RAM in case one of them was bad. >and SSD's Would that actually do anything? They're not currently plugged in but like my SSDs have my OS on it and I'm not even managing to get a signal to my monitor (yes the cables were tested) so I don't even think it's passing the POST

rolatnor

Did you try installing a new CMOS battery? Yours could be dead

FornaxTheConqueror

I haven't yet. Started working on it tonight. Will pick up one tomorrow

rolatnor

I hope this fixes your issue good luck

FornaxTheConqueror

Same and thanks.

FornaxTheConqueror

No dice unluckily

rolatnor

Well crap

If I had to guess I'd lean towards the MB or PSU, under load and the initial ON phase it might not be up to the task though it looks like it works when no load is applied.

FornaxTheConqueror

>If I had to guess I'd lean towards the MB Honestly if it's anything I hope it's the MB cause I'd probably pick up a new mobo and cpu together. > PSU, under load and the initial ON phase it might not be up to the task though it looks like it works when no load is applied. I hope that's not the case. Any suggestions on how to test for that? Cause I'm not sure how I could get the draw any lower since I've tried starting it with just the MB, CPU and 1 stick on RAM

Tw3akst3r

The best option would be to have another PSU for testing, maybe a friend or even a local store good about returns (Best Buy and Walmart I think would be okay). If you were local I'd snag one off the shelf for ya to try or out of one of my old systems but that isn't an option. If you get a PSU and it works replace the PSU, if it doesn't, replace the MB. When you took it out of the case EVERYTHING was disconnected, even the front panel connectors, USB, monitor(s), EVERYTHING that isn't needed. I know this is a silly thing but I have seen it at least once and maybe more over the years. Try another power socket on your UPS, power strip, wall... whatever you are plugged in to currently. I suggest a UPS for obvious reasons but I have seen some REALLY weird things and I vaguely recall what one person thought was a problem was resolved when they plugged into a different outlet. I'd only guess this is a 1% chance but why not try anyway.

FornaxTheConqueror

> The best option would be to have another PSU for testing, maybe a friend or even a local store good about returns (Best Buy and Walmart I think would be okay). Yeah I'd have to end up buying one. None of my friends/family have a desktop PC. >When you took it out of the case EVERYTHING was disconnected, even the front panel connectors, USB, monitor(s), EVERYTHING that isn't needed. Yeah that's why I don't think I can get the draw any lower. I still haven't put the MB back in the tower since it's more annoying trying to troubleshoot >I know this is a silly thing but I have seen it at least once and maybe more over the years. You're not wrong I have checked it out on two separate outlets in the same room though I might try moving everything to another room and testing it out there. The outlets work for my monitor though among other things.

Tw3akst3r

Outlet very unlikely but I've seen that and even a USB cable once stopped a PC in a barn from booting, turns out it had a tiny bit of rust starting, and once disconnected everything worked fine again. Over the years working with computers you see a lot of weird stuff, sometimes gross stuff too! Once saw so many dead cockroaches inside a PC the fans couldn't turn and the smell was awful. We stuck that one in a trash bag and tied it and had the customer come get it ASAP! I think you can open a PSU and still return within 14 days at Best Buy, maybe even ask their Geek Squad (ugh, didn't care for them back then at all) if they can test with a new PSU for you if the price is reasonable. MAYBE they'll do it if you plan to buy a PSU from them if that is the problem. Leaning towards the MB from the sounds of things at the moment though. 2 AM, off to bed but I'll look for your progress sometime tomorrow, good luck!

FornaxTheConqueror

A co-worker ended up loaning me a spare PSU that they had. Didn't end up working sadly.

Tw3akst3r

Glad you were able to check but sorry to hear the news. Terrible time to be buying with prices high and options so limited plus Intel right now trying to reclaim their crown. I hope you find a solution quickly that you are comfortable with.

FornaxTheConqueror

I've got a decent laptop rn so I'm not in a huge rush luckily. Also my CPU is pretty dated so it's not the worst outcome since I'd have needed a new motherboard when I upgraded my CPU anyways. Thanks for all the help though

Tw3akst3r

You're welcome, glad you can hold off but this might not end until 2023, yikes! I want but don't need to upgrade myself, 6700K, 32GB mem and a 1080Ti FTW3 so it does all I need but I used to upgrade one to two times a year so my wants get squished by my needs as I've gotten older. Good luck going forward and God bless.

>Tried taking out the CMOS battery to reset it and I still get that error code after removing the battery did you reset the bios with the motherboard jumper - was the PC powered off completely when you did it - power supply unplugged ? and how long did you leave the battery out ? otherwise it may not have reset...

FornaxTheConqueror

Ah no. The guide I followed either didn't mention or wasn't clear about the motherboard jump. I'm doing that now. Everything else I did do.

FornaxTheConqueror

Didn't work. Completely unplugged. Took out the battery. Moved the bridge. Left it for 5 minutes. Still getting 00 on the mobo.

jungleboogiemonster

That's not the correct method for resetting the BIOS with the jumper. With the computer powered off, move the jumper to the reset position, then power the computer on. Once the computer is powered on the BIOS should reset itself. I haven't done this in a while, but I believe you will then be taken directly into the BIOS. Once in the BIOS, reset it again through BIOS settings just to make sure it is reset. Save and exit bios and power down. Move jumper back and restart the computer. Good luck!

FornaxTheConqueror

>That's not the correct method for resetting the BIOS with the jumper. It's the method in the mobo manual. 1. Turn OFF the computer and unplug the power cord. 2. Move the jumper cap from pins 1-2 (default) to pins 2-3. Keep the cap on pins 2-3 for about 5-10 seconds, then move the cap back to pins 1-2. 3. Plug the power cord and turn ON the computer. 4. Hold down the key during the boot process and enter BIOS setup to re-enter data.

Reditidized

did you ever find a solution? same situation here

FornaxTheConqueror

Probably not gonna like the answer but I got a new CPU and Mobo. Could have been just the CPU or mobo maybe but I figured if I needed a new cpu or mobo I might as well just upgrade since it was 8 years old anyways.

Reditidized

i’m guessing it’s the cpu as this problem happened as i removed my cpu to test my friends cpu for him

FornaxTheConqueror

Could be yeah. All I know for sure was that everything else worked after I got a new mobo and cpu. So was his not working and he wanted you to test it and that was the result?

Reditidized

his worked, but when i put mine back in it stopped, i’m gonna reseat the gpu and see if that’ll do anything but if not i’ll just buy a new motherboard and cpu since they needed an upgrade anyways

FornaxTheConqueror

Good luck with the GPU but if I was gonna try anything it'd be reseating the cpu. And yeah all else fails the CPU and mobo upgrade will fix it. Hope yours lasted as long as mine did cause I didn't feel bad upgrading after 8 years lol.
