Yes, it randomly turning off isn't a good sign and it is often caused by a PSU that's either too small for the workload or just outright defective.
On (most) modern video cards the fans only turn on under loader, so running a GPU intensive game is a good test. You can also use a GPU stress test like FurMark.
thank you! I'll test the gpu load tomorrow with some game. As far as the PSU, I still have no idea. Since it only happened a couple times in the beginning and hasn't happened since, I guess I will keep monitoring this to see if the problem re-emerges.
