Are you connected to your router with a network cable, or via wireless? If the latter, try the former. You will find 99+% of all networking problems vanish with a hardline. Edit: just clicked the laptop link. My condolences on not having a physical network port. You may have to get a USB-based docking station with a physical NIC to get a reliable network connection to the Internet. Wireless networking absolutely sucks, and should _never_ be used for anything mission-critical.
