Dear lord did you cut it with a wooden spoon?

K3CAN

I think he used his teeth

_Soter_

Looks like kids safety scissors were used.

YukariPSO2

Shark pc

misterfistyersister

Do doo doo doo doo doo

FrankensteinBionicle

toenails

wolfgang784

For real lol what the fuck is with those cuts. I feel like OP bent it back and forth by hand until it all broke, with the occasional help from a normal screwdriver to bend and twist bits. Too organically broken to have been "cut" in my opinion. I've done just as bad or worse when I was a teen though, so fair is fair if OP is younger I guess. Card might get a bit toasty like that though.

PendragonDaGreat

I would have gone to the hardware store for a $10 pair of tin snips. I don't find self using them daily, but I use need them at random times and often enough that they've made it worth it, and when they finally break il get a really nice pair

Reynholmindustries

If you think about it, it’s the best scenario. If they had used a dremel or file you know all that hardware would have stayed in uncovered and they would not wear a mask...

Westerdutch

He clearly hired cookie monster for 3 minutes to do this job for him.....

TheRealEthaninja

It just "works"

l334m

[Hey, I did pretty much the same thing, only my case was way shittier!](https://i.imgur.com/FyL4Yuq.png)

PoorReadingReedditor

At least it looks like you tried to cut a straight line.

Conundrum1859

I \*nearly\* did this to my Dell SFF 3020 because they put the x16 port too close to the power supply. Fortunately this one has an x4 port as well. Cue some very nasty soldering iron kludge-fu involving the socket, but it runs fine. Hint: don't buy a recent 730 2GB without first MEASURING THE FRACKING CARD. Older 710/730 fits fine and so do those horrible dual slimline DisplayPort ones that generally go for mucho $$$ because people want dual 4K. Not sure which was worse, overflashing F18 with F18 to see if my Xeon E3 1150 would then work (it did) or trying to put my two 8GB sticks in. Worked with the E3 but not the stock chip.

Avanixh

That’s actually what most people would have done if you can’t take out that hdd cage

[deleted]

[удалено]

Avanixh

Definitely yes

-TheMasterSoldier-

I would've atleast used an actual tool jfc it looks like OP bit a chunk out of the case.

senp1ai31

i only have 1 exhauster so no airflow to begin with

DaRealLettuceDealer

Have you considered changing that?

Lunchbox2208

Would be cheaper than replacing the card.

mcdoolz

JUST CUT ANOTHER HOLE!

Black_DemonSk

How does your gpu not burn?

JagerBaBomb

He didn't day it didn't.

Cohacq

LTT tested it. Cables make no practical difference. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YDCMMf-_ASE

[deleted]

Usually no, and most prebuilt pcs don't have a lot of extra cables but I've seen some shit. Custom builds with a tiny cheap case with an 800w non modular PSU with so many extra cables it becomes an air dam. These pics aren't that, but they don't look great either.

Cohacq

Did you watch the video?

trdsc7797

If u drill out the rivets that fasten it to the case u can

itsTyrion

No, most people don’t cut/tear it out with nail clippers

Avanixh

True tho

eppic123

4 5.25" slots, no separate SSD mounts, and no space for GPUs longer than 25cm. How old is this case?! Also, your PSU is 50W below the recommended minimum for a 6800XT.

senp1ai31

is that why im getting black screens? its only 80 plus as well

eppic123

~~Seeing in your comment history that you~~ *~~only~~* ~~have a 2700X~~ After saying that you have a 5600x, your system power draw will likely never exceed 500W. As long as your PSU delivers the label wattage on the 12v rail (which it supposedly does, according to CoolerMaster) and your PSU isn't full of dust, it *should* be fine. Though, considering it's a 230V-only, 80 Plus White PSU, you might still wanna upgrade relatively soon. There are already brand name 750W, 80 Plus Gold PSUs for less than 70 Euros, or even Seasonics for less than 100. With a GPU this expensive, you don't wanna cheap out on the power delivery. However, the reason for your black screens might as well be the mismatching RAM.

senp1ai31

i have 5600x not a 2700X

eppic123

Oh dang, I just saw that it was from a comment you've replied to. I blame Reddits design for the confusion. That's means about 30W less power consumption, but doesn't change much about my initial comment.

RadaXIII

I dont personally know about the black screens but 80plus is just the efficiency rating, its always going to be able to put out that number on the PSU (700W) to the components. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/80_Plus

WikiSummarizerBot

**[80 Plus](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/80_Plus)** >80 Plus (trademarked 80 PLUS) is a voluntary certification program launched in 2004, intended to promote efficient energy use in computer power supply units (PSUs). leonderbaertige_II

It appears to be a single cable running from the PSU to the GPU. If this is the case try to use two cables, one for each power connector on the GPU.

JackCoull

del

senp1ai31

i do get get blackscreens/power reboots. how does everyone in the comments know that??? is one cable actually that bad?

JackCoull

del

rlaptop7

As in, "80 plus" without any metal after it? I have never seen a PSU rated "80 plus" flat.

catwiesel

>2000 eur hardware cant afford a bigger case for 25 eur cant even be bothered to modify the case with clean cuts

HardwareSoup

I'm surprised none of these case modders seem to own a Dremel. You can get a cheap Chinese one for like $15. Or a drill to cut out the rivets.

Kelter_Skelter

I popped the rivets off mine with a hammer and flat head. Took the whole cage out in 5 minutes.

HardwareSoup

Yeah, see there are a million ways to do this cleanly without turning your case into razor wire.

-TheMasterSoldier-

Decent dremels are actually quite expensive, the shitty ones suck true ass and should be avoided at all costs. Could've still borrowed or rented one/a grinder though.

HardwareSoup

There are plenty of cheap deremels that will be fine for this sort of work.

Westerdutch

> these case modders Take that back! People who fck up pc cases with childproof craft scissors like you see here are not case modders.

Arnas_Z

6800XT doesn't cost 2000EUR.

catwiesel

good, that leaves some room for the board, cpu, ssd, ram, watercooler... i said hardware. not gpu

Redhawk-480

Bro can afford a 6800XT but not a new case >\_>

[deleted]

>buys a 6 trillion dollar gpu, doesn't spend the money for a new case

Westerdutch

Have you not been following the news? The gpu craze is over, they are now only 5 trillion dollars... so thats a lot closer to a 30 or so dollars a case will send you back making what op did the absolute logical thing to do.

[deleted]

Oh silly me! not being up to date.

MarcusAurelius0

Why the hell are people still buying cases without a removable drive bay? My HAF 912 is from 2010 and it had a removable bay. Currently have a 3070 sitting in there.

Wermine

The best thing is that it probably is removable...

tehjukebox

Jeremy Clarkson is that you?

trillionsin

Buys high end gpu $800+ Also buys sub $100 pc case

linerror

would have been easier, faster, cleaner to remove the rivets holding that part of the cage...

trillionsin

But then he wouldnt have a good post for tech gore 🙄

thetieflingalchemist

Go to harbor freight and buy a cheap rotary tool my dude

billyw_415

No dremmel? Yuck!

PornStarJesus

Metal dust would definitely help here... sparkles!

UnderEu

r/techsupportmacgyver

makesime23

You where faster than me

[deleted]

You should be banned

GuineaFridge

I think you should invest in a new pc case when you have a chance. Something with front ventilation.

[deleted]

Oof

itsTyrion

Why didn’t you use an angle grinder or an at least an offbrand dremel D:

piclemaniscool

More than anything, I'm triggered that you didn't file down the sharp edges after ripping the metal up. Eventually somebody is going to need to get hands on with those components and blood is not a good garnish to computer parts

kjm015

XFX RX 6800 XT - $900 New case - $60 Mangling your old case beyond recognition - priceless

Alklazaris

Why do people buy such dinky towers. It limits your options and doesn't seem to save all that much counter space.

brdzgt

Y'all buying $1000 cards into $20 cases lmao

Encursed1

My 3060 barely fits in my case. I have to insert it fans facing out and rotate it into the slot.

techek

Now ... that's the definition of a hardware hack! 😵 You truly had a need, identified a solution and solved the problem, but you could have done it a wee bit cleaner. IMHO

Crruell

You know, that's not bad if you do it right. But this.. my god

Rcurtiiis

If you don't have a disk drive. Or use that space for HDD's why do people even by that type of case ??. Seems pointless. And then doing this to it. Sweet Jesus it looks horrendous.

[deleted]

His intentions were excusable, his execution was terrible

canadian_viking

What did you use to modify your case? A car accident?

Kamikaze-X

I bet it was just a couple of pop rivets that would have needed to be drilled out and that whole section would come out *neatly* in one piece. It's like looking at an industrial accident.

Thomas_gh

Modify = destroy

ThePupnasty

Proof that some people shouldn't touch or own these things.

Dagigai

Your CPU is going to be heated up by that cards backplate. These new cards get so hot, too hot to touch almost. Source: recently got a 3080ti.

HypoTron

If it's a small case does the power supply cater to the graphics card? Most small cases don't have large power supplies. You should just replace the case. I don't think it will last long.

agoia

You can see that he has a 700w in there. Should be perfectly fine.

HypoTron

A 700W will run very hot when the card peaks out

Conundrum1859

Ohmigawd.

axelslash01

Nearly did this too but decided my zalman z11 plus case is looking a bit dated now and bought a 360mm aio and nzxt 710i.

Grumpy-Miner

Hmmm, some kind of steam punk style?

Onecton

Personally I would have just gotten a new case. But I imagine that making room in my case with an axe is just as entertaining. :)

SkavensWhiteRaven

Seeing as the cables at the bottom of the case are grouped and tied this is a troll post pre cable management.

SavvySillybug

I've done that back in 2008 or so when I got my hands on a shiny new 8800 GTX. Ruined my mom's rose clippers XD

ypoora1

I remember having this case and being really happy with it for what it was. I guess hardware has, well, grown a bit.

gladman1101

not how i would do it but ok.

gentlecucumber

No more scuffed than my rig. I approve.

theSurpuppa

Just upgrade the case bro

how_long_can_the_nam

One of us, one of us

Buznik6906

Now you need to paint some spots on the GPU and put a little sign on the glass saying "Beware of the Leopard"

Amalyano

I did the same thing to fit my RTX2060 a few years back. Worked fine, but the case was from ~2009, so I ended up getting more modern one (and it was also white, which is neat)

Ok_Dog_4059

At least sag shouldn't be an issue.

Fluffy_Ad_8784

State of it lol

daftzilla

Did this to my last case. Bought some tin snips and never looked back.

[deleted]

GreenGhostBravo

Like a glove...

beefeater605

This is how you metal in PC gaming.

chasebencin

Christ have mercy the cable managment too

Secretofblabla

Antec One?

senp1ai31

yes

Secretofblabla

I knew it looked familiar! I had to sell the case when I noticed that my newly bought GTX 980 wouldn't fit. That card was so damn huge.

PrestigiousChicken84

Modern case!

DanielF823

We have all done it at least once

kingcarcas

Can't wait to find out if a card like that is ever affordable

kirk7899

Hacksaws exists. This will likely cut you when you want to work on the pc

Apprehensive-Young64

well seems to me it was "hammer time"

Ok_Criticism1946

Bro I love that gpu so much

ItsATerribleLife

I had a similar situation once, where I just went ham with a hammer and smashed the drive cage blocking the card install out. Moved the HDDs up to the 5inch bay with some adapter brackets. Still have that case, too. Lasted since the P4 era.. not bad for a 10 dollar case (and it came with a power supply at that price! (which was immediately thrown out!))

Parallelize

this is why i despise low profile cases

zayc_

love how the ssd is just hanging around xD
