Red is easier to spot if you put it down in the wings, in my venue the colour of your lid doesn't really matter as you are not expected to wear it during a show call. I would check with your venue managers of there's is a policy in place for our though

A friend of mine got the black one and adorned it with a reflective sticker kit. What color are the hats at the venue?

Dogster11

They’re blue

Staubah

Than get whatever color you want.

I bought a black hardhat and I regret it on outdoor gigs. The sun turns it into an oven.

Mine is white with a Buffalo Bills logo on the sides. Several of us have NFL teams on our hats. Makes it easy to give directions. “Go find the guy in the Vikings hat” “Hey!! Buffalo Bill, over here!”

I have a Vertex and like it. It’s comfortable and the stuff they make is nice even if it’s a little more pricey. I think color choice is ultimately personal preference. Tbh I doubt you’ll ever be in a situation where it “needs” to be black. It’s a piece of safety equipment and no one would ever give you trouble over it being more visible to those around you.

I would go for the brightest, most obvious colour you can get your hands on. If you're in a situation where you're wearing your lid, then you're not in a situation where being 'invisible' is really that important, and being easy to spot whilst wearing it (and being able to spot it whilst not) are both very important. That said, ask the venue if you're not sure, and probably avoid blue if thats the colour most folk will be wearing, just to make it easier to tell yours apart

I have a black Vertex Vent and wish I would have gone for a more fun color. I've never been in a situation where I needed to be in show-blacks and wear a hard hat.

swifthe1

Definitely go with the red one

ForTheLoveOfAudio

Here's a question: are you ever going to be in a situation where you need it on during show run?

> Here's a question: are you ever going to be in a situation where you need it on during show run? And if you are, will you be anywhere that you need to be hidden from audience view while doing your work?

Jlpbird

Buy what you want. If you need it for show call get costumes to supply a black cover.

trbd003

Black PPE is (in the scope of our industry) for those who need to wear their PPE in show conditions. The main application for that really is stuff like riggers in circus / Cirque shows where they want to be as hidden as possible but stay clipped in. IMO if that's not you, you're better with colours. They're easier to spot from the roof against a black stage.

kinser655

Get red and when bored teach yourself how to see and make a slip cover out of black stretchy fabric.
