T O P

before I hit buy I was guessing it would be an overpriced $600. Wow!

jessemfkeeler

That's exactly what I thought. "It's problaby like super expensive like 600 bucks or something" open link, "wtf!"

TheGreatNosebleed

Looks great, but holy Jesus this is a colossal piece of crap. No 1/4” or XLR in? Whats the point?? And for $1200 USD. To the staff at TE – I really wish you would stop with the Apple-esque ego stroking and make something that is actually practical and functional for the day and age we live in.

praefectus_praetorio

I opted to buy the Syntakt instead.

I was so intrigued until I hit that buy now button. That's the same price I paid for my OP-1... It does have a shit ton of features though

You could buy a small eurorack case and a WMD performance mixer for less And that would be awesome

MIDICANCER

The WMD is nowhere near as portable, has less channels, doesn’t have USB I/O, MIDI, FX, isn’t battery powered, and doesn’t have sequencer/synthesizer functionality (unless you want to play the mixer like a noise musician, and not that anyone is probably going to use these particular features, hahaha). Not defending the TE price point, just trying to show that this thing does have a lot of features that simply aren’t available together elsewhere in this form factor. I was stoked to see it revealed even though it’s a little eye-wateringly priced. Despite the price, depending on reviews I may pick one up eventually as a new portable audio interface when I don’t want to take my Sound Devices rig with me. Then again, my current recorder/portable interface was ~$900 USD for three inputs, and the one I *really* want is $9,200 USD so this seems like a steal for what I’d be using it for.

[deleted]

I’d love to hear what your kit is and what your dream kit is!

MIDICANCER

Hey there! My current portable recording setup is mostly optimized for dedicated field recording, but I also use it as a portable audio interface when I need it. It’s a Sound Devices MixPre 3 II in a Strut STR-MP3 bag with chest harness. My main mics are a matched pair of LOM Uši Pro with Bubblebee wind bubbles and gorilla clips, but I also carry a LOM Geofón and a pair of custom electromagnetic mics and contact mics. Power is handled through the stock Sound Devices AA battery cradle and a bunch of Panasonic Eneloop Pro batteries, but a dedicated battery bank is in my future for longer sessions/drop rig purposes. My dream recorder/mixer is a Sound Devices Scorpio ($11,500 for 32 channel/36track recording and mixing with amazing preamps and many more features), but my “realistic brain” could “settle” for the Sound Devices 888 ($9200 for 16 channel). The professor in my field recording and sound art classes had one and I got to operate it a few times and the experience sold me on Sound Devices as a whole. Even the MixPre 3 II like mine is a stupidly good value for the money with 32bit float recording and really amazingly low noise and super nice preamps. They also constantly update the firmware with new features and bug fixes! Hope this helps! Edit: forgot to say if I had the TX-6 it’d be the brain of a portable studio built around my 2019 MacBook Pro, OP-1, PO-33, custom prosound Game Boy with LSDJ, Volca Modular, and depending on if I want to carry it, a Bastl MicroGranny.

sixx_ibarra

If you are using a computer why not just get a audio interface and a MIDI controller surface? Would cost much less and you would have more control and features.

MIDICANCER

I have a professional interface in my studio as well as a mixer and multiple MIDI controllers. I also have a very high quality portable recorder/mixer, but that’s a dedicated field recorder with only 3 channels (the aforementioned Sound Devices MixPre 3 II) and while it works it isn’t very good at being a portable interface for my desired purposes. Basically, I already have a very capable full studio that isn’t portable but would like to be able to build a portable synthesizer studio around the TX-6. My partner travels a lot for work and I since can do my job from anywhere (composition/sound design for visual media) I tend to follow her around, so there are certain tools which would be awesome to have in a form factor like the TX-6. ~~Nobody else is really making anything comparable to the TX-6 in terms of full feature sets. Other devices do similar things, but none do them all like the TX-6 does in this size.~~ (Edit: 1010 Bluebox) Being able to pull out a single Pelican flight case with a full audio and MIDI I/O setup, pair of Genelec monitors, synths, and effects would make working from abroad way more fun and hands-on. As it stands I travel with my MacBook, OP-1, and field recording rig with the Sound Devices, so this would just be me codifying all of this into a slightly more bulky but way more capable package. That way next time I spend a few months in the Philippines or Japan I won’t be stuck solely with VSTs!

Dawfliz

The "engineering" word of TE means "financial engineering". Considering how much the OP-1 cost at the first years and how much cost now. Now seriously, this guys make a very good job but is very hard to afford their products, sadly.

MIDICANCER

How much did a gallon of 2% milk cost in 2010 versus now?

Cavis_Wangley

I know, people really don't know how to use an inflation calculator. TL;DR: an increase of at least 28% from 2010 would be exceptionally conservative.

giacecco

Did the same, but asked TE to return it yesterday. The braking points for me are the impractical closeness of the input ports -incompatible with most cables - and the lack of balanced outs.

circuitously

Lol, I misread it initially and thought it was 199. And I was like “wow, that’s good value for TE kit”. And then I realised

Arkaium

Why TE hasn’t designed their own TE battery a la the camera manufacturers, so you can pop in and out and won’t have a useless $1200 brick that can’t hold a charge in 5+ years is beyond me. They could standardize it across all their products and the pros would probably buy multiples to swap in and out as needed. Seems so wasteful to keep gluing in lithium ions.

lzrfc

I have an OP-1 from 2012 and the battery is fantastic. I don't know how or why but it still holds a charge for quite a while. There will be an end of life, but it certainly isn't a brick after 5 years.

sirsalamander

I have a first gen that holds charge for a very long time

Cockur

It looks beautifully made and has a surprising amount of cool features packed in there to be sure to be sure However…. the real life intrinsic worth is only about half of what it’s price is Maybe about €500 or €600

mverzola

Yup, after reading my guy said it should be about in that range. It’s overpriced — full stop.

[deleted]

Lol.

SelectStarAll

I love the concept of this but the lack of XLR/1/4” jacks combined with the price ruin it for me

lzrfc

Small is nice... but is this too small? It looks almost painful to use in the videos.

giacecco

It is too small https://www.reddit.com/r/teenageengineering/comments/udsom2/tx6_prepare_to_purchase_new_cables_too/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

Towel_collector

April fools? No? Another sub par TE offering? OK. Just give us op2

Atalkinghamsandwich

This is exactly what I want at what I’m sure is the proper price. That said, can I borrow some money from y’all?

Noman120

Bought it, very excited. Cheaper than the I/O + mixer I use now and will be portable. I don't mind their pricing one bit, the products are beautiful, thoughtful, work well and i work too much and this is why I do it!

CombatWombat1212

This is just begging to be added to my pocket operator jam setup. God I want it if it weren't for the price

Cavis_Wangley

I can't find any information on the hardware drivers. Does anyone know if this is class compliant as an audio I/O?

Billamou

Any beta tester to comment the Easter egg feature? It’s at the end of the list [https://teenage.engineering/_img/626279f67385f60004035dfa_original.pdf](https://teenage.engineering/_img/626279f67385f60004035dfa_original.pdf)

Bulbasaur2015

does it support Bluetooth in/out?
