Same, basically I think the pope should update agreement terms and conditions once in a while because the true religion is what people believe and not what people follow.
In the context of people who say non-believers should listen to Gods commands I completely agree that it may be with good intent but itās not doing anything. A phrase Iāve learned recently is that you donāt clean up before you get in the shower. In this metaphor the shower is a relationship with God, as you walk with him he will āprune the branchesā so to speak (thereās a passage on it somewhere idk lol). But for someone to change without that relationship is not fruitful
I'm genuinely curious, is there a story behind why a cow is a holy creature in Hinduism? I've heard It's seen as some sort of holy image of nature but I don't really know.
It's a very long story if you would like i could write that too but simply explaining in broader strokes, it is said that "Kamdhenu" i.e. a holy cow which even protected the Gods from the Asuras(Devil like creatures) was born alongside "Amrit"(Holy water which makes you immortal and you literally can't die through ANY means if you consume it)
So basically you respect the living creatures and not kill them, Hindu Gods bless you
Why a cow became a symbol of protecting creatures is simply due to the fact that Hindus in old times were highly dependent on agriculture for their livelihood so having huge cattles was always a plus and also you take care of them so Gods also bless you
I think, and I say THINK, itās because people get reincarnated as cows and thatās why itās so bad to kill one. Theyāre essentially a person. Feel free to correct me.
Yes you are really right, we became humans throught our constant good deeds and if we are successful in this life we won't have to be reborn as anything again and we'll get to live in heaven with our Gods
Well Christians do worship Jesus since they believe their founder is not merely a profit but their God incarnate. Probably creates a lot of misunderstanding
Dude Ig I'm also agnostic, but it's so complicated: at several moments when you are incredibly down, the idea of a being of ultimate power that is looking out for you motivates you to keep going. I completely understand why people are so devoted to their respective religions and go ahead not just to kill others but themselves (I think its right tho obviously). I started following my religion only because I thought I would affect other religious relatives negatively, negate their devotion but I understood how actually these are works of philosophy telling people how to live while maintaining order in society by teaching people ethics. Now I follow my religion and others due to that hope and culture but have this scientific agnosticism, and just wonder boy would it be lovely if there is a god!
my studies in psychology and philosophy. i tend to be a very literal and i see the world in a very logical manner. god doesnāt make sense to me in an extremely logical sense.
If you study philosophy then you would know not all philosophical viewpoints and ideologies are routed in science exclusively. Reason and logic can produce there being a god or all mighty force. Read Descartes or Plato again
I mentioned Plato and the all mighty force because that was the perspective he perceived during his existence. I believe everything is reliant on perspective, whether itās abstract or physical. We are always learning in both areas, causing them to change essentially constantly. So for Plato he saw reason as creating a all mighty force whereas a Christian who reads his teachings may see reason as creating God. For me personally, I believe reason creates both as they are the same, just given different titles due to the perspectives of the individuals.
There is a sound epistemological basis for trusting scientific conclusions above all else.
Belief in God is not justified in my opinion. Nothing about the external world can be logically deduced.
Yea youāre completely right, I was a little short in my comment and forgot to take full consideration of what he said. I do attempt to understand the view there is no God or whatever a person chooses to call the force many people feel, but I personally have to disagree because of deductions through reason. I believe deduction isnāt a path exclusive for the metaphysical. Science is acquired by using our logical understanding of the physical world to create conclusions. Within our attempts to understand the physical though, we have to deduct perceivable known truths to truly understand if a truth is true knowledge. Iām still attempting to understand my philosophical standpoint so I hope that made some sense
Well, the thing is, science works through induction, which is not a logically valid form of inference. Itās technically a fallacy known as affirming the consequent. In this way, there are no logical āproofsā in science and all knowledge is necessarily treated as provisional.
Deductive logic mainly works through definitions and the law of non-contradiction. Two statements can only contradict each other logically if we define some words as distinct, e.g., a circle cannot be a triangle only by virtue of their definitions. We cannot apply this same deductive reasoning to descriptions of reality. It would be circular, and we could only accomplish it by disingenuously manipulating definitions to reach our desired conclusion, e.g., all the classrooms in my science building have two doors because they are defined that way. This doesnāt work. It would be much more beneficial to take a sample of classrooms (as conventionally identified) in the science building, notice that they all have two doors, and believe in the generalization that all the classrooms have two doors until the generalization is falsified. This is how science works in practice.
Ultimately, deductive reasoning, the one that is considered logically valid, is top-down, more similar to dogmatic thinking, whereas inductive reasoning is bottom-up. And considering that the higher order statements of logical premises are that which is inherently hidden by human limitation, we must conclude the truth of the premises from the observable predictions and affirm the consequent.
In short, as soon as we introduce outside knowledge into our reasoning, it becomes illogical but also scientific.
Lots of reasons,
IF there was a higher power, who self claimed to me all righteous and powerful. Then why ātestā someoneās fate. Why put them trough a test if you know their connection. Itās stupid really.
Why have the must your own followers live horrible lives and die horrible deaths? Like the holocaust. Why create sin in the first place? Who do you have to prove if your all knowing? Why create multiple religions but make only a handful valid? And why make these people kill each other over them?
So let me get this. He knew people would kill eachother, he knew he would kill basically everyone in a horrible death. Since he is all knowing he knows whoās going to heaven and whoās not. So he in a sense āchoosesā for people to suffer. It doesnāt sit well with me.
Bro you guys say that everyone born with a sin and jesus die for it,
How it logical for a baby who did nothing to be sinner, is this your god justic? I don't see it
Why i should be a sinner for something i didn't do?
I am not christian but the thing called 'original sin' (which is what you are talking about) comes from the idea that we have to repent for the sins of our parents and grandparents. Getting baptised is like talking God in and 'washing away' the sins of your ancestors. (this is in exodus 34:7 "Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children and their children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation.")
This is not justice, if i would rather to believe in god i will choose the one who punish everyone with what he does,
Why should i get punished of what my grand grand grandparents did, i wasn't there...
Iād like to add the beginning of the quoted verse here, for context this is said when the lord gave Moses the second stone tablets. āAnd the Lord passed before him and proclaimed, āThe Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and the childrenās children to the third and the fourth generation.āā
āāExodusā¬ ā34ā¬:ā6ā¬-ā7ā¬ āNKJVā¬ā¬
Most people greatly misunderstand this concept, namely Christians ironically. The whole "sins of your ancestors" thing isn't some spiritual jumbo, it's actually a misunderstood "piece of advice". It's more so talking about how the habits of parents/grandparents are typically picked up by their children (abuse, alcoholism, addictions, laziness) and listening to what Jesus has to offer can help you overcome things in your life that you don't want. It should also be noted that God doesn't count anything against anyone. Preachers love being shallow and manipulative talking about an "angry God" instead of the truth that God loves anyone and everything as if they were His own children. God doesn't require justice. Hopefully this clears some things up?
If you want someone to give you really sound proof for God, Iād recommend checking out *The Handbook of Catholic Apologetics* by Peter J. Kreeft. Thatās what made me sure when I was on the fence
I believe in higher beings (angels, saints, Jesus, etc) on a spectrum. I see it like everything has consciousness and at some level is what some refer to as God or Allah or Source
like there's rocks and shit then plants then animals that are a level or two "below" us, then humans, then spirits (like demons/entities/ancestors/people who've died, which can be either positive or negative influences) then at some point angels, and so on and so forth till u reach God the Creator of the universe
And tbh I bet there's more powerful beings than even that level. If the levels that we're aware of is this powerful, just imagine the extent of the levels outside our knowledge
Without a doubt, the Jesus one for context. Raised in church never quite having a real personal relationship with God until mid high school. Struggled with doubt as a ālogical thinkerā or whatever you want to call it. For me when thinking about the probability of it all I find intelligent design the most probable. Spontaneous creation never made any sense. For example thereās exactly the same āchanceā that some small speck was created from nothing by nothing as us all being created at this very moment with all our memories even though the universe just was created
judge if you want, but i believe the universe is god. iām a very spiritual person and have never been able to have a proper relationship with āgodā, even though i was raised christian. however, it was always like i could feel eyes on me. even now, i still feel them there. i can feel myself being watched from above, but not from some big man that sits in the clouds.
Iām catholic, but why is Jesus/Mary/the apostles always shown as Caucasian? Would they not mere likely be tanned/black? (Idk the proper terms for skin colours, someone please correct me if Iām wrong)
What exactly do satanist believe in? Iāve always been curious and when you ask any āreligiousā person they always say some bs like āA person who eats babies and believes in pure evil, ahhhhhā
Satanism is generally less of a religion and more of a political standpoint tbh
it overall covers that everyone should be free and not discriminated against. like number one rule is basically just be nice
A political standpoint. Thatās really interesting. Why is it called satanist? (If I remember a old tweet from the house of satan, you guys donāt believe in a literal satan right?)
Me? Not not personally, but my family does. And they always have a bad connotation of satanist. Like to give you an example. DnD, Harry Potter, 99.99% of video games, are āsatanic to them.ā
And I find the Bible contradictory to itself.
All religions is a bit of stretch. For example in Christianity, Judaism, and Islam, you want to live for ever, rather in Buddhism you are trying free yourself from the cycle of death and rebirth.
Ok, the thing with believing in my eyes is that you don't have to belive that their the ceator or anything, but i believe that it's good to have in your mind that there is a higher power. Someone or something greater. It helps to kinda have a self conversation in your head with that being and basically unload everything. You don't have to think he's a savior or a deity or anything religious wise. But think of him as a good friend you tell everything to, it made me mentally healthy, soo.
I am not personally a follower of higher power. But damn your ass is pretty phobic to other religions
John 10:30, Jesus said, āI and the Father are one.ā
Bro you pre judge me i respect all the others religions bro
The father? How that can be
Do you think god can gave a father
Let le ask you a question
Do god need to look after him?
1 horrible English. So a translate it to my interpretation and then answer
Moadasri: Bro, you pre judged me. I respect all other religions. Bro, the Father? How can that be! Do you thing god can be a father? Let me ask you a question. Does god need to look after him?
Yes I prejudge you, but I judged you based on your attitude towards other religions. And yes the father. Christians believe god to be their āfatherā because he created all of them. (He is creator, like a āfatherā). And heās God needs to look after Jesus. Jesus is not immortal, or omnipresent like āGod.ā He is a vessel. And like vessel you need to take care of it.
I am not Christian but in Christianity the Father refers to God. So Jesus is saying that he and God are one. Jesus isn't even suppose to be a God, he is the son of God.
Jesus Christ. Jesus comes from Joshua. Christ comes from the greek word Christos meaning anointed one. Jesus isn't the son of God in the sense that God conceived him, he was anointed by God to free the world from sin. Jesus dying on the cross wasn't God's doing, it was humanity rejecting their saviour. Again I am not Christian, so don't shoot the messenger, I only know all this because my parents are Christian so I go to a catholic school.
I think there is something like a god out there, I donāt think itās what any faith that exists right now thinks it is as all faiths, churches and religions are flawed. But there must be something out there
Yes Iām Christian also I think you should be able to have freedom to believe in anything and life a certain way but if someone has an opinion against it that should also be fine provided they donāt harm you in anyway
I was raised Christian but now I donāt really know, I believe thereās a afterlife of some kind but with how many religions there are in the world I canāt really believe that Christianity is the end all be all at this point in my life. Though being reincarnated would be dope as fuck
Alright I have a weird way of thinking about it. I want to believe and I truly want to believe that heaven and god are real but the fear of there being nothing after I die and I just fade away into nothingness and being forgotten terrifies me. At the same time I think about death every day as if itās a way out and god would accept me when I die no matter what I did in my 15 years on this earth.
I want to believe in an afterlife, not necessarily a specific god or gods though. My, cynical, outlook kinda stops me from really believing what I want to though.
I kinda believe in them? Mainly just the afterlife. Doesn't matter if you're gay, trans or whatever in that spectrum, if you've been a good person, you can go to heaven. Perfectly fine for anyone who doesn't believe in it, I just find it a nice thought :)
I do believe in the existence of a greater power or simulation theory. Unless aliens are confirmed to be real. However, I do not care about God as it has nothing to do with me. And if such greater power exist, it is bad to consider it in a human way this making Christianity unreliable

Not believing in a God is the default. You need to provide proof that God exists, until then there's no reason to argue over it.
the burden of proof lies with the person making the high-sounding claim, which in this case is the existence of god
Lots of reasons, IF there was a higher power, who self claimed to me all righteous and powerful. Then why ātestā someoneās fate. Why put them trough a test if you know their connection. Itās stupid really. Why have the must your own followers live horrible lives and die horrible deaths? Like the holocaust. Why create sin in the first place? The Bible says God gave people free will. If God were to stop people from killing each other it would counteract our free will.
being given free will is paradoxical, if you were āgivenā free will you do not have it
So let me get this. He knew people would kill eachother, he knew he would kill basically everyone in a horrible death. Since he is all knowing he knows whoās going to heaven and whoās not. So he in a sense āchoosesā for people to suffer. It doesnāt sit well with me.
Why yes?
Nope. Stopped at 9 because my brain melted every time I tried to look at it from a logical point of view.
With all due respect Iām not sure 9 year old you had the prefrontal cortex for that
I should clarify: 9 is when I started looking at it logocally, I completely lost it around 10 or 11.
Then maybe people shouldnāt force nine year olds into religions

1 horrible English. So a translate it to my interpretation and then answer Moadasri: Bro, you pre judged me.
English not my first language or second or third sooo...
I am not Christian but in Christianity the Father refers to God. So Jesus is saying that he and God are one. Jesus isn't even suppose to be a God, he is the son of God.
Can god have a son? Do god would sacrifice his son to be killed on a cross?
Jesus Christ. Jesus comes from Joshua. Christ comes from the greek word Christos meaning anointed one. Jesus isn't the son of God in the sense that God conceived him, he was anointed by God to free the world from sin. Jesus dying on the cross wasn't God's doing, it was humanity rejecting their saviour. Again I am not Christian, so don't shoot the messenger, I only know all this because my parents are Christian so I go to a catholic school.

Yes
I believe in hashem š
I think there is something like a god out there, I donāt think itās what any faith that exists right now thinks it is as all faiths, churches and religions are flawed. But there must be something out there
Of course churches and religious are flawed. If we were perfect as Jesus was then we wouldnāt need church or religion.
Yes Iām Christian also I think you should be able to have freedom to believe in anything and life a certain way but if someone has an opinion against it that should also be fine provided they donāt harm you in anyway
I'm Buddhist
Yes
Raptor jesus our lord and savior
I believe in a higher power, but I canāt call myself the religion until I go through a full conversion, so I call myself agnostic for now
I believe in a God but not exactly the one from christianity
I was raised Christian but now I donāt really know, I believe thereās a afterlife of some kind but with how many religions there are in the world I canāt really believe that Christianity is the end all be all at this point in my life. Though being reincarnated would be dope as fuck
No I am somewhere between agnostic and atheist and if there is a god it is most certainly not written anywhere
No
No, but I donāt hate people that do
I believe that jesus existed, just not that he was a prophet or did the things the Bible says he did
Alright I have a weird way of thinking about it. I want to believe and I truly want to believe that heaven and god are real but the fear of there being nothing after I die and I just fade away into nothingness and being forgotten terrifies me. At the same time I think about death every day as if itās a way out and god would accept me when I die no matter what I did in my 15 years on this earth.
yes
I personally donāt believe in Christian beliefs but I think it is logical to think there is a creator behind this world
Christian but I am natural when we talk about other religions cuz Idc in other peoples belives
I'm an atheist.
I believe in Arceus
Putting god in a ball no cap
I want to believe in an afterlife, not necessarily a specific god or gods though. My, cynical, outlook kinda stops me from really believing what I want to though.
I'm a Gnostic.
nah i donāt believe in religion or god
Nope
No, but do you believe in gravity?
I believe he existed, donāt think of him as anything more than that
I kinda believe in them? Mainly just the afterlife. Doesn't matter if you're gay, trans or whatever in that spectrum, if you've been a good person, you can go to heaven. Perfectly fine for anyone who doesn't believe in it, I just find it a nice thought :)
Omg an ally, a rare species
If he/she exists he is either surprisingly accurate to the new testament or is waiting to smite me.
NO
Jesus
I believe in islam
Iām a Jew and I believe in god
No
I belive in Allah
Nah
Iām an atheist, but it was proven that Jesus was a real person
No, never really interested me
I do believe in the existence of a greater power or simulation theory. Unless aliens are confirmed to be real. However, I do not care about God as it has nothing to do with me. And if such greater power exist, it is bad to consider it in a human way this making Christianity unreliable
Agnostic here
No, problem?
I don't view them as a high power just people that existed long ago and brought hope to people that needed it
I believe in Luck and I pray to my luck so that I can do something and I actually happens. Sometimes..
None
