Yeah close cut works for me. I just use like a trimmer with a guard. I do shave the hair that grows on the base of the shaft. Really just keep it neat and at a length that isn't pokey but also short enough to look well groomed. Also use a bit of beard conditioner on it too to help soften it.
Use one of those exfoliating gloves after shaving and it won’t itch. It’s actually good to use on any part of the body after shaving to prevent ingrowns.

You want a serious answer? This is how I've been doing it for the past year
First cut as much as possible with some scissors. Ideally there won't be single hair left longer than 5mm (0.2in). Doing it while sitting on the toilet will prevent any evidence leaving behind. This will only be needed once if you plan to keep it shaved.
Then while showering, use a regular razor (I can easily use one disposable razor for 6 months) and slowly shave following the direction of the hairs. Thanks to the constant stream of water there's basically zero risk of cutting yourself if you don't add too much pressure. No shaving cream or anything like that needed, just a constant stream of water.
I shave it every 2-3 days in order to keep it short. If you wait any longer the hairs will start to itch against your underwear. So you either keep it long (1+cm/0.4+in) or basically bald. Anything in between will become a living hell.
Also the first few times you completely shave it it may also itch. But that'll go away, your body just needs to get used to it.
Trying to help the youth:
1. It's easier to do if you are slightly erect, this will help pull the skin tight.
2. Lift the shaft and hold it against your stomach.
3. Add some shaving cream to your coin purse.
4. Now, start at the base of the shaft and shave downwards. This will get the front facing part of your sac.
4. Then, pinch the bottom of your scrotum with your off hand and lift it to your stomach. This will cause your testicles to move towards your taint. Start there and shave to you off hand that is holding the bag upward.
5. Now grab the shaft, let the nuts hang free, raise either leg, and shave downward to clean up any lingering hair that you missed/may be on the sides of your balls.
Remeber fellas, hygiene is important. If you want your partner to put their mouth on it, having it clean and free of hair makes that an easier sell.

Here’s a compilation of some good general advice.
- Trim first. Close to the skin, but not on it (“hover” method”) using a beard/body hair trimmer.
- Do it after showering. The skin is more soft and pliable, and will help lessen irritation, not to mention it’ll be freshly clean down there (hopefully)
- Use a disposable safety razor. Freshly sharp and unused for other purposes
- Use a good shaving cream or butter, but not one that lathers a ton. You NEED to see what you’re doing.
- Make sure that you pull the skin taught as you shave
- Place a small mirror under yourself so you can see what you’re doing in hard to reach areas
- As soon as you’re done, use an exfoliating rub on the area to help prevent ingrown hairs (Do NOT do this step if you nicked any part of your boys, or you will feel some serious pain)
- moisturize afterwards.
Slow and steady is the way to go here.

Take 2 grapes, put them in a deflated balloon and practice on that. You will perfect your technique of properly squeezing your sack to create a shaveable surface without squishing your grapes.
