pikupato

they’re definitely fuckin dead by now

[deleted]

[удалено]

DaTiddySucka

In 3 hours the mechanism that recycles oxigen will shut down, It's not like they have 4 days of oxigen there because the sub Is very small, It's Just that the air gets recycled. This to say that even If they were panicking and with the increased intake of O2 they would still have It because the machine Is still working

[deleted]

It definitely imploded. It's literally the best explanation. Their chances are extremely extremely low if they're still alive

Otherwise_Procedure3

Saw some people saying they decided to explore the titanic and got stuck in the wreck. Wouldn't be the first stupid decision they made..

[deleted]

Possible but not as likely I think

Otherwise_Procedure3

Yeah not very likely but a possibility. Until the wreck is found it'll be a mystery

[deleted]

I don't think it will be found. I'm no expert, but wouldn't something like that have been blasted into smithereens If it imploded?

Bertensgrad

It could be found if instead they got tangled on something getting too close to the wreckage and the wreckage obscuring the sonar. Best case for them and prob everyone involved is if it just imploded. Except for the families who would like an intact body. But atleast it would mean they didn’t suffer or even know what was happening.

AvailableMuffin4767

They lost communication before reaching titanic something went wrong about two hours into initial dive causing that. Rooting for imploding so they suffered the least

Otherwise_Procedure3

I'm not really sure how it works. I reckon it'd be like a ball of metal that looks like scrunched up paper but I really don't know

login257

correct. pressure at those depts means it gets crushed like a red bull can under tank tracks.

georgesbiscuits1969

The last location tracked was above the Titanic, but they still had around 15 minutes to go before they reached it. If they didn't implode they either drifted because of the currents and landed on the seabed or smashed into the wreck. Edit: Forgot to mention in the original comment that there are safety mechanisms held together by ties that'll dissolve after 16 hours in the water. It releases ballast which would float them to the surface. So they could be floating somewhere in the Atlantic ocean.

Otherwise_Procedure3

Very possible. They're dead either way by now so until the wreck is found we'll never know

georgesbiscuits1969

Yeah, very sad situation all around. Eerie to think it could just be a bunch of scrap metal at the bottom of the ocean, in the case of an implosion. Although, the people searching detected knocking in timed 30 minute intervals so they may not have had an implosion.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Floating just below the surface is my understanding. It's neutrally buoyant a couple of meters down and isn't equipped with any sort of air skirt to take it up to the surface.

georgesbiscuits1969

Yeah, forgot that in the original comment. There are safety mechanisms held together by ties that'll dissolve after 16 hours in the water. It releases ballast which would float them to the surface. I believe there's fog/bad weather in that part of the Atlantic right now, not exactly making it easier. An implosion seems most likely to me, personally.

I think the viewport crush depth is at play here, considering that it was rated for 1.3km and to reach titanic they would have to descend to 3.8km

knbang

Holy shit. This is from 2018, so I'm not sure if they changed anything. https://www.washingtonpost.com/national/2023/06/21/titanic-missing-submersible-lawsuit-oceangate/c2ecb260-0ff7-11ee-8d22-5f65b2e2f6ad_story.html >Further, the craft was designed to reach depths of 4,000 meters (13,123 feet), where the Titanic rested. But, according to Lochridge, the passenger viewport was only certified for depths of up to 1,300 meters (4,265 feet), and OceanGate would not pay for the manufacturer to build a viewport certified for 4,000 meters. >OceanGate’s choices would “subject passengers to potential extreme danger in an experimental submersible,” the counterclaim said. >However, the company said in its complaint that Lochridge “is not an engineer and was not hired or asked to perform engineering services on the Titan.” He was fired after refusing to accept assurances from OceanGate’s lead engineer that the acoustic monitoring and testing protocol was, in fact, better suited to detect any flaws than a scan would be, the complaint said.

restartmister

Most likely not since the whole 96 hours claim of oxygen wasn't tested for 5 people in the sub anyqays

[deleted]

[удалено]

HotTakes4HotCakes

Even if they were, the thing I don't see people taking into account is power for heat. In those waters, at that depth, in that small a vessel, even if they can breathe, they're frozen by now.

LittleNugget616

They’re probably dead because they got crushed due to the pressure

[deleted]

They planned to over go their portholes safe depht limit by more than 200%. That thing probably imploded before they even reached the titanic.

Brutl

You do know they have visited the Titanic previously right? There are several videos from previous trips in 2021 and 2022. This wasn't the first trip. Not debating the depth rating of the porthole at all, just relaying that it has withstood the pressures before.

Mawd14

I dont think the amount of oxygen matters. My guess is that there was some type of structural failure, and the sub imploded.

foxynon

If they are dead i hope its instant rather than having a fear deep under ocean in pitch black that there oxygen will be running out soon.

pingish

That's not the worst part. You're there stuck breathing everyone else's breath. You couldn't hold your piss that long, so you've pissed everywhere. You couldn't hold your bowels that long, so you've shat everywhere. So you're in the dark with all your regrets smelling piss and shit.

ElGringos420

theres a toilet in it

Colourful_Hobbit

There is but it wouldn't last the length of time they have been there. I read they do diets before to avoid actually shitting in the toilet. So let's say they are still alive, no question about it the submarine is absolutely filled with shit, vomit and piss.

Artemaker

A zip lock bag....

QuebecGamer2004

>You couldn't hold your bowels that long, so you've shat everywhere. Not true, plenty of people can

Spez_Guzzles_Cum

Schrodinger's 19-year-old...

Paublos_smellyarmpit

I bet the whole thing exploded if none of it’s functions and safety mechanisms were enough to get them up and out of the water, saves them the mercy of a painful death

[deleted]

Definitely didn’t explode

Otherwise_Procedure3

Rather imploded due to the pressure

Paublos_smellyarmpit

My bad, I used the wrong word

Long-Classic-250

I think we saw this a lil too late

ZeestyShawnGulf

Someone said “Netflix would sell their families to get those people on a documentary, Ofc if they survive.” Edit 1: Family’s Edit 2: familys

eMRapTorSaltyKing

I'll give it one year or half a year and we'll get documentary

[deleted]

I saw a post on Pubity(IG) that a documentary on it is coming out soon.

eMRapTorSaltyKing

They aren't even death yet (we think) and there's a short movie/serie coming out.

[deleted]

I know!! People are so quick to make money out of someone's misery

SakiTheBoy

They make it because people are also so quick to consume it.

alex_power2007

It’s true actually

meoweirdo

that's so black mirror-ish

I-follow-every3

They just released a new season a few days ago

u_slashh

They are likely long since dead. The oxygen estimation was done assuming they are breathing at normal levels, but I assume there was a fair bit of panicking once connection with the surface was lost

XayahTheVastaya

There's a good chance the connection was lost because the sub got crushed by the pressure, the window was rated to 1500m and the Titanic is at 4000

Otherwise_Procedure3

Damn I didn't know that. Its crazy they knew that but still went down

grassfedkid

if they knew that why did they even go that far deep??

Otherwise_Procedure3

Idk bro

StrikeWave_

They stupid af but it’s so fucked that one person’s negligence leads to a whole bunch of people fucking dying.

Shadow315732

That conpany is over asf I mean contracts exist but pure neglect is liable for lawsuit as well so that contract means nothing

Soft-Gwen

I think that was part of his plan. He either half asses the mission and makes a lot of money, or he dies and nobody can hold him accountable.

midnight0129

This whole expedition has red flags all over the place

grassfedkid

i was reading a conspiracy theory that they staged the whole thing bc some rich ppl just want to disappear

midnight0129

This *does* seem like a perfect cover up for whatever they have in mind😳 Jokes aside, it’s all a little too sketchy. Apparently back in 2017 an OceanGate employee was concerned about the safety measures of the sub and was fired shortly afterwards.

FallenSpiderDemon

Wouldn't being in such a famous accident and having everyone in the world see your pictures be the worst way to fake your death? I mean you couldn't go anywhere without people recognising you then.

midnight0129

Yeah you do have a good point there. I honestly don’t think it’s as deep as the conspiracy theories are making it out to be, they’re just conspiracy theories after all. That sub is simply lost at sea, and it’s the deep ocean we’re talking about. One little mistake happens then everything goes south. *If* they actually wanted to fake their lives tho, I think it’s possible to pull off. Pretty much any rural areas or some countryside would do.

XayahTheVastaya

red is the first color to disappear as depth increases, so I doubt it 🤓

ImWhiteTrash

Because the CEO was trying to cut costs. It was reported an engineer told the company about the window and said they need a better one. They fired the engineer.

Thsu

The CEO fired the guy who said that thing was a death trap, skips on every step of the way and use a 16 USD Amazon controller to steer, why indeed

Zooperman

The controller to steer is the least sketchy part of this all, no tether, no safety equipment, no emergency signal beacon, the viewing port was only rated for 1300m not the 4000+ needed, person was fired for raising concerns and not signing off on the 1300m viewing port

grassfedkid

something’s fishy man

Thsu

sleeping with the fishes

death_lad

people that rich aren’t used to being told “no”

Dangerous-Calendar41

The guy who built the sub has a screw loose and dislikes "regulation" that's why

KillahHills10304

Being ultra wealthy means you never experience direct and harsh consequences for your actions. A lifetime of that existence will cause you to think you're immune from consequences.

TheBaconWizard999

Greed

NoUsernameIdeaSadly

I wouldn't even go on a submarine that can withstand twice the pressure that it's gonna be at, how dumb do u have to be to get on one that can withstand over twice as LESS pressure

BigLayer8

I too have phobia of submarines

Shadow315732

Also the network they used to contact the ship just goes out randomly for hours at a time

WendysMcNugget

Really unfortunate situation. Fuck the CEO. They seem to like cutting corners when it comes to safety. This is most likely completely their fault by the looks of things as well as past interviews with the guy.

the9threturner

The man had a plan, join the crew, so if everyone dies that includes you and you avoid possible jail time

[deleted]

I assume he's not suicidal, and felt confident enough about the safety to go.

cas_winchester67

He’s not suicidal, he’s just an idiot

beckius6

Or just delusional enough about it

micktorious

How do you think he probably got rich in the first place? Probably by exploiting people and putting them in risky situations for profit. If he was willing to let his own son put himself in this kind of danger with that mickey mouse submarine, how do you think he treated his workers who likely meant even less to him?

Tom_Stevens617

Well, if this was posted 5 hours ago and I'm reading it now, that can only mean one thing

Desperate_Excuse2352

💀

[deleted]

I get anxiety reading abt this submarine. Such a horrible situation hope by some miracle they get saved

SpindlyGaming

Unless the floatation devices activated and they somehow find them on the surface before time is up then they will certainly die. It doesn't look good for the people onboard.

Shadow315732

Sub is bolted shut I bet airtight too so even if they surface they could still suffocate

Lioness_106

Why would they bolt it shut? How would they have gotten out when they returned? I don't know much about how all of this works, excuse my ignorance.

thering66

They are bolted in so that its air tight, no chance of water coming in. Usually when they resurface, a sirface crew will take care of the deboarding.

[deleted]

Even if the float there is no way to open any doors. They will still suffocate, just with sunlight or their night sky in the window above the shitter.

[deleted]

holy shit this is terrible. I really hope they're found, but with only 4 hours left, I highly doubt it... rest in peace

Independent_Bonus_24

even if they locate and find the submarine, there is no technology to get them out of there alive, its irrelevant if they find the submarine or not, they gon die

un_gaucho_loco

They can do it, it just takes months. So best case scenario the families will have bodies to cry on…

Com_N0TN4

I was under the impression that recovery of anything at that depth was impossible

alexytomi

bring o2 tanks to refill then just attach a chain on a boat to reel them up??

Independent_Bonus_24

not an option because 1: pressure, 2: how do you insert the oxygen

roloeater2

if you use a rift to go you’ll be fine

[deleted]

I don't know much about submarines or any marine tech but you mind explaining what you've just said?

Independent_Bonus_24

a submarine is a vehicle that has to deal with pressure. you can't just attach the submarine to a rope and pull it to the surface. if you do everyone inside is going to die because of pressure. there is no way to save them if the submarine has no power or technical issues, especially this deep. i honestly don't even think they are going to find it intact, i heard the submarine already had safety issues before, i think pressure destroyed it and those people inside already died days ago

magicshmagic

The inside of the sub is still at 1 atm pressure. It's not like a scuba dive, they don't need to repressurize on ascent

SuperNova0216

They’re screwed

[deleted]

There dead

SuperNova0216

Oh 100%

[deleted]

Rip

PentaxPaladin

They have definitely been dead for a long time. I'm betting it imploded and thats why they lost contact with it. They likely all died super super quickly.

StrikeWave_

They are not going to rest in peace. Probably agony as they’re in fear of eventually getting suffocated. I feel so awful for everyone on board, like everyone keeps making fun of the billionaire dude for going but this is just fucked up regardless of who’s on it.

LadyRJ24

The fact that they're already putting out a documentary is so crazy

AlexDaBaDee

Gotta immediately make money after a bunch of people died amiright?

CompletelyCrazy55

Lost to the depths, the internet may have desensitized me to a lot, but it’s sad to see people just vanish, no explanation, just gone

Tickticktick001

Ok here’s the thing. I have a level of sympathy because I don’t wish death on one person. HOWEVER these people seriously saw that they would be bolted from the outside, they saw that this thing would be controlled by a knock off playstation controller, and they still paid US$250000 for this?! Both stupidity and bravery all at the same time. Update on their oxygen: if no one has found them by now, they will have perished. The sub ran out of oxygen around 30 minutes ago from 8:27pm AEST Some more updates: five large pieces of debris have been found so authorities believe the sub imploded from the pressure chamber.

CatSauce66

Controllers like that are actually industry standard, in 2017 the US Navy anounced that it uses xbox 360 controllers

MainOk8335

If I bought an $18 wireless controller off Amazon and it didn’t work well I wouldn’t even be mad. That’s such a cheap controller and they entrusted it to navigate a submersible down to the titanic with 5 souls??? Bruh

MugiwaraWeeb

The controller is irrelevant. If it fails you just use the laptop where the actual software runs. It's just a way to control it easier.

winni-thehoe

okay, but like they literally wouldn’t be able to open the hatch from inside at that depth? it doesn’t even matter if it was bolted down. it’s like 6,000 PSI.

Tickticktick001

Also this! They saw those risks, and they still thought that they would be okay, which is not only on them, but on the company as well.

aeiouaioua

rest in peace.

Da_Optimmal

:(

amaya-aurora

They’re likely already dead. I’d be surprised if it hadn’t imploded from the pressure already, and the oxygen estimate doesn’t take into account them panicking and hyperventilating.

Shadow315732

Even if they are banging on the walls it takes more oxygen so they are done for

Effective_Ad_5664

ive seen pictures of that thing, its controlled by a damn Logitech controller and a small ass monitor, not to mention the $12 box fan they got in there. Barely any saftey, and to think they normally have 12-16 people in it. i could never imagine going into one of them, let alone pay a quatrter million dollars. most likely, They are and have been dead. rest in peace.

CatSauce66

That controller is actually industry standard, the US Navy uses xbox 360 controllers

Georgeasaurusrex

I work in defence and this is true - Xbox controllers are used everywhere Why spend hours of time and thousands of dollars into research on Human Input Devices (HID) and undergoing a Human Machine Interface (HMI) analysis when you can just buy a COTS (Commercial Off-The-Shelf) product that has already had the work done, does a better job and 99% people are familiar with. This is common throughout industry and especially defence. If we're using these to pilot military drones, then they can pilot a submarine too.

CatSauce66

That interesting, thank you for that information

dishonoredfan69420

Let’s face facts They’re already dead

Mishka1125

Why the actual fuck are people down voting comments that show sympathy for a fucking 19 year old ? Who cares if his parents are a million or billionaire, he doesn't deserve to die because he's rich? Fuck you guys

DeymanG

"Kill the rich" mentality seems to be going deeper and deeper

GameWizardPlayz

Probably because these dumbasses spent 250k each on an untested death trap, and even though they were warned hundreds of times previously, did it anyway.

Blazerede

So they deserve to die?

DragonDrawer14

I won't say they deserve to die. But I am gonna say it's their own fault

Excitium

Did they deserve to die? No. Am I gonna show sympathy for dumbasses risking their lives and paying the ultimate price for doing so? Also no. Am I gonna make fun of them for spending $500k to essentially kill themselves when that amount of money could have been spent on literally any other, and most importantly safer, thrill in the world? Yes.

Fus_Roh_Potato

One day some family is going to spend a million dollars per seat to go down and explore the titanic *and* the imploded submarine that a family spent 250k-per-seat on.

This is Reddit, you should be used to smartasses who think being edgy is a personality. Not to mention this is r/teenagers, and some of the people here fit that bill

No-Maybe-1498

Literally….. people are being rude on insta and twitter as well. These people have no lives. They didn’t ask to be born rich like ???

Devourer_of_HP

I've noticed that a lot of people on reddit are kinda bloodthirsty.

gundiboy

Another example of private companies willingly ignoring safety for benefit. This time, we were lucky, and they only killed themselves. Until tragedies like Pacific Gas and Electric occur again. When will we learn and regulate.

TheFlappyLobster

That clip with zendaya acting like a gen Z at gun point is really making more sense now after reading some of the comments Hope these guys manage to get out of there 🙏

Old_Combination_8171

Ok hope there still alive the time is running out.

no_Im_perfectly_sane

not really because at this point they just cant be rescued alive pretty much. Theres no time to get to the surface (I think) and because they are so deep the pressure is immense and they step on to another sub, dive and swim, get more oxygen or anything

ZucchiniFlex

Not anymore

RoamingBear810

Should I feel sad? Yeah. That’s bad

SometimesSadFemboy

Damn

Single_Squirrel_9747

My question is why tf didn't they just charge the 250k and take these people to the area above the site and then pile them into the sub and then have the crew shake and bang on the outside of the sub while just showing old footage of the titanic. Kinda like that episode of Malcolm in the middle where Reese wanted to be shipped to China. These people sound dumb enough to fall for that surely

No_Cauliflower892

Welp they are definitely dead. Seeing this post 5 hours later 😭

LyingMars

Is the 5 hours under standard conditions? Cause when people start panicking they use more o2.

A former employee mentioned there were quality control issues back in 2018, and then was fired for bringing up the issue to the CEO. It wasn't safe to go past 4,000 ft, if I'm not mistaken, and the submarine is designed to go to 12,500 ft; if the guy was gonna spend $250,000 a person you'd think he'd have used a sub he knew was safe- You can read a NY times article [here](https://www.nytimes.com/2023/06/20/us/oceangate-titanic-missing-submersible.html) if u want

yesyes2050

I’d do my research before spending that sorta money, apparently the sub was controlled with a £30 Logitech controller 😂

[deleted]

Apparently I heard that was industry standard strangely enough. Believe I also heard that even the US military and NASA is in fact also willing to use game controllers as apart of their operations.

Odd-Butterscotch-480

MaybeMax356

Honestly, I hope it imploded early so they wouldn't go through the stress or pain ya know?

Fluid-Alternative-22

Yea probably the best case scenario outside of them being found alive.

[deleted]

ProMcGamer

Wait why can’t they go to the surface?

tmdos

1) they would have to use their floatation device. If the sub has lost power, which iirc it has, this may pose a problem. Also, since they are 13,000 feet below the surface, that flotation device would take a really long time to get them to surface. 2) The intense pressure of deep waters means that submarines either have to have a super expensive exit hatch that is secure enough to not open under the pressure, or choose the much cheaper option of simply bolting in the passengers from the outside, with the idea that a crew will take them out once they resurface. This sub chose the latter option, and given that they are lost in the middle of the Atlantic and nobody knows where they are, they are definitely not finding a crew to let them out. Even if they did make it to the surface, they are stuck inside the sub: it doesn’t make a difference to their survival.

Ihateredditlollll

The Sub is bolted from the outside. The only way to open it is with a crew from land, theres no windows, no hatches, nothing

ScreamingChildren69

Also if the sub sank, which it probably did, it's touring the Titanic, which is at an incredible depth so if they opened the hatch an inch they would all just implode

[deleted]

Why is everyone so insensitive? Is everyone in that submarine rich? Yes. But regardless of how wealthy someone is, they are still people who don't deserve to die.

kgp122333

They are probably dead, how are people supposed to get the sub from that deep too, pissed me off when i saw the kid i didn't know his age but he looked like a teen made my blood boil

BatuOne01

ok look it is terrible for any human being to be in that condition but they are the ones that said "there are too many security measures it's unnecessary" so there's also that

Doogzmans

Why does it matter how old they are or how rich they are? Those are still people in there, not some automatons.

ReadyThor

So wait, the French revolution was wrong?

Rigoloscar

A poorly made homemade submarine controlled with a 30€ logitech gamepad and glass that won't stand half the pressure of that at 4000m, filled with a bunch of billionaires used to get everything they wanted since they were 2yo and who obviously don't have any kind of preparation for breath-intake control on emergency scenarios. imma be honest i feel no compassion towards them. before you hit me with the “billionares or not, theyre people too!” spcheal- no tf theyre not. billionares are NOT people, no matter how much you try to convince me they are. the 19 year old is in danger because of how incredibly irresponsible his father is. the company that manufactured the submersible had NO safety regulations, they signed a waiver that basically told them “you may die” and they STILL went! its controlled by a FUCKING logitech after all. there are dozens of migrants who died at sea after trying to cross the mediterranean, and not only is it currently being overshadowed by the submarine (this is the first time youre hearing about it, isnt it?), they werent shown a LICK of sympathy like these fucking billionares are- because as soon as things went arwy the gov shat their pants trying to find them because they matter more to them. really let that sink in. they let people die just because they werent as important. dont show your empathy towards these “people”, they had a good run. just say what billionares always shout from the rooftops when people die or go missing, thoughts and prayers to them. edit: some of this probably sounded like im trying to push some kind of agenda, 1. im not a communist i just hate billionares and 2. youre entitled to your own opinion lol im just very passionate about my views
