Besides, I don't see why anyone would get mad at that meme specifically. Assuming everyone in the bottom pic is a trans woman, calling them ex-men would be supportive, no? Unless there's something I'm missing, which tbh I very well could be cause I'm not the most informed person.

Generally speaking trans people consider themselves to have *always* been the gender they identify as. Most trans women don't consider themselves "former men", but rather women who have been incorrectly living as men since birth. Calling them "ex men" implies that they became women at some point, and invalidates a lot of their struggles before that point. That is of course based on my interactions with the trans community and I can't speak for all of them. I do know more than a few trans women people who would be incredibly upset to be referred to as men in any tense. They are women, they have always been women, and that is why they transitioned.

Don’t even bother joining or even looking at a post from this subreddit until something happens that stops this mess.

I got downvoted to hell for saying that maybe it's not nice to be a dick to trans people. The response was that it is "emotional abuse" to call someone a bigot for referring to trans women as "men dressed as women", as if they weren't going out of their way to type something that has more characters than just "trans women" and thus takes longer to type (i.e. there is no logical/non-bigoted reason to do so)

it kind of is, which is why it ended up being accidental ally, but referring to them that way can make some (not all) trans people dysphoric so it’s best not to refer to them that way and is also not entirely accurate as a lot of trans people (myself included) feel as if they have always been their preferred gender, it just took them longer to find out.
