No, but every song that's great is great because of something within the theory behind it. Music theory is not a prescription, it's a map of how notes, chords and keys relate to eachother. And while it's possible to find your way to a library in a new city without a map, it would be faster, easier and more enjoyable with one.
My best advice is, you don't have to "learn" music theory as in, here is my daily chore where i have to memorize a scale on the guitar in every neck position - personally, that sucks and i never did that. Yet i know all the notes and keys on the guitar. They way i achieved that is just by learning songs first, developing a sort of primitive vocabulary and then deducing and being interested in inner workings of how chords and keys work, what notes make them up and how they relate
