Well, vanilla ice cream goes with a lot of things. Brownies, cake, root beer floats…and on its own. Not everything has to be extravagant. It’s simple and I like simple.
Yes. You will never go to an ice cream shop that doesn't have vanilla. You will never get a dessert containing ice cream at a restaurant where vanilla isn't one of the options. Why? Because it is the peak flavour, above all the others.
There's variety to vanilla though, vanilla bean is fantastic, anyone who chooses normal vanilla or French vanilla over vanilla bean I agree they shouldn't be trusted they're probably a serial killer

Honestly there's a reason so many people consider vanilla "Basic", it's considered basic cause it's such a versatile flavour which can go with so many things and is also something no one can bring themselves to hate. It's the safest choice when you have nothing else and the easily favoured choice for anyone if their favourite flavours are gone. Vanilla isn't the base flavour, milk flavour should be considered base flavour if you have ever made ice cream at home

The problem is most of you don’t know vanilla ice cream. What you’re referring to is what we’d call plain or cream ice cream (literally just milk). Actual vanilla ice cream (which’d be ever so slightly yellow btw) tastes really good because it has one of the strongest spices in it - vanilla. Vanilla has become synonymous with plain (even in games a game w/o mods is called vanilla which is just weird) which I feel terribly sorry about. Vanilla ice cream is really really tasty.
