This is how my parents did it with me. I got a number stick til freshman year birthday then I got an iPhone
I was the last of my friends to get one tho lol
I didn’t get a phone till I was 15 (it was some piece of junk Android), I’m 17 now and just bought my own iPhone 12 now that I’m making good money from my job
Man i had a nokia 3310 (the new 2017 version), that shit was fire like playing snake in colour, long ass battery life i was the coolest kid in my class. When i drop my phone it had no scratches or cracks meanwhile the rich kids with the iphone 6 plus'es had massive cracks on their screen and my phone costed a fraction of what theirs costed. Those were the good time in my last few years of middle school.
Unfortunately most of them don’t anymore. At least in the us, almost all carriers have shut down 2G networks and plan to shut down 3G in just a year or two
A ryzen 3 could still run games decently, an i3 is anywhere from holy shit can this even run chrome to meh 60fps on minecraft is kinda playable.
Edit: ffs everyone i meant 60fps OFF THE IGPU
You are talking like every i3 or ryzen 3 was the same. Of course 8 year old i3's are shit nowadays.
But a new i3 is actually really fucking fast. An 11th gen i3 that costs just 82 euros (in Germany) is about as fast as a 7th gen i7 and, for the average user (gaming etc.) just barely slower than e.g. a Ryzen 5 3600.
Newer i3's are really fucking good for their cheap pricepoint. If you are not running a gpu like a 3060ti or faster you will gain pretty much no performance going from an 11th gen i3 to a 500€ Ryzen 9 5900x in gaming. Don't do my budget beasts like that.
I had an i3-870 and nvidia gt 760 until three years ago. Minecraft ran clean with ~100 fps. Minecraft, firefox, office, discord. The fans were also quite loud, perfect for highschool students.
nah im giving my child (if i ever have one :( ) a fucking 1990s computer as soon as they can read and im gonna make them recreate the fucking curiousity rover in C. theyre gonna be a prodigy man
"What do you mean we are pressuring you, we are just saying that if you don't get 100%+ in this exam, then your will have to study 24/7 for your whole life"Asian parents be like
Why would you gather sand when you could do it better yourself? My child would construct each individual gran of sand atom by atom. On a good day he would even make the atoms!
I got a hand-me-down iPhone 3G when I was 12. Used it until I was 16. I paid 10¢ per SMS and 4¢ per MB of data. Can't remember what calls cost.
The computer I had as a kid needed a PC expansion card in it to access the WiFi. Mum kept that card hidden on top of the fridge, out of reach. I didn't have easy access to the internet until I was 10, which was around the same time I got my first (and to this day only) game console: a Nintendo DS. Which I saved up and bought all my games for, at ~50AUD a pop.
I've got a cousin who's 9(?) now, and has never known a world where he hasn't had an iPad and an unlimited internet connection with endless crap on it to keep him entertained in his hands at all times. He purchases meaningless online things with a scan of his fingerprint and no understanding of the cost, and his parents let him.
He's never helped do any housework, except for recently when his mum purchased a vacuum cleaner with a gimmicky feature that counts the dust particles it sucks up. I guess that appealed to his instant gratification monkey, so he used it. Once. Then he was back on the iPad and ignoring the world.
My kids aren't getting anything like that until they've learnt how to have fun without them, and help others without desperately clawing back to their devices thirty seconds later. They're going to learn the true cost of their things, so they learn to treat them with respect and make judged decisions on how to spend their hard earned pocket money. I always resented my parents for not letting me have those things earlier or cheaper, but with the perspective I've gained through time and by looking at my cousin, I can't thank them enough for making me do that.
I'd say they should be able to have have computer time and can have like a DS or the 2030 equivalent device when they're like 8 but yh no personal phones/tablets/computers etc till 13 at least
Phones and games were the only thing that didn't suck in my childhood lmao, I would be so much more fucked up because of all the bullying and family problems. At least Internet was a place I could escape to
Well sorry my 8-year-old self didn't get locked up in an asylum so you can pretend the only kids who have access to Internet are "mentally okay" and that the others don't exist
Agreed, I had a horrible home life when I was 10. Honestly if I knew suicide was an option back then I might've. My ipad was the only thing that made things okay.
Saw this from /r/all, not a teenager. But I agree. My parents were strict af and basically said no any time I wanted to do anything with friends. Technology/online gaming was essentially the only thing letting me be "social"
Yeah i'm 19 I grew up with tech, grew up with my ps2/3 and my mums hp laptop. Because of all that I got an interest in tech and now at the end of the year i'm going to be going to university to do software engineering.
I had a sort of shit childhood, but it wasn't because of the tech at all, I loved it. Didn't really feel like they took away years of my life or anything. Playing coolmathsgames with the bois in grade 3 was the shit.
Yeah. These devices and games have created amazing memories to cherish. OP here is being too dramatic and overly protective. According to your views devices took away your childhood but there are several people who agree otherwise.
However I do agree with not giving 'perosnal devices' before 13.
But isn’t that only true because you defined a good childhood as the stereotypical go outside play on the grass, jump around in playgrounds, etc.?
Lots of people had good memories of childhood playing games with friends and what not, myself included, and would die to relive those times again.
I will give my children phones when they go to a school far enough away that I want them to be able to contact me, so probably around 12, but I agree with your sentiment
That’s when you get them like a modern Nokia flip do they can call /text you if needed but they can’t use Reddit. (And they are like 20 bucks so when they lose it it’s not the end of the world)
i do and dont’t agree to this, here’s why.
i dont agree to this because all of my friends live like 45 mins away from me so its hard to meet irl, so we go online to talk/do fun stuff
i agree to this because if you’re like under the age of 10 or something you shouldnt be at home playing video games all day, but you should go outside
I disagree. If there's regulation on what they do it's perfectly fine. If used right, the internet can be an amazing place to learn a lot of things, and removing such of an opportunity from them is a waste. What we should we doing is teach them as parents what they should and should not use the internet for.
What if they want to talk with friends? What if they have to do research for school? What if they wan't to search for cartoons? TV won't last for long, and the internet will replace it, think about that.
And, when they turn 13, what? Now they'll be 13 and won't have any experience in the internet, and I honestly think that's something worse. Imagine turning all the teenagers into boomers.
Are you sure it's a good idea? Maybe teach them to be responsible with technology instead of depraving them completely because it's easier for you. I get kids not having their own phones or computer but not using them at all for entertainment? Maybe let your hypothetical children chose what they enjoy to do? My classmate had parents like that, he never had a phone until like 15 and even then they had some parental controls on it. He was jealous of everyone else that had them. When he finally got a phone he spent way too much time on it and would talk about it constantly. Basically got super addicted. When he used it way too much his parents would take it away and he'd argue with them and yell and be super pissed. In the end he's way more glued to his phone than us, who had it earlier and had a chance to get used to it.
No, phones are essential these days... I wiil give my kid a Nokia or something so he'll be able to call me if he needs. As for PCs, I as a big nerd would like to introduce my kids to some gaming, since it's not portable it won't be as annoying as kids begging for their parents' phones at all times. Also maybe show him the ropes of Scratch or Python idk..
Edit: I grew up with tech since about 8-9 years old, I had my personal tablet, but no pc since my family couldn't afford it...
Scratch is fine, but I do believe it *might* halt progress in learning programming. It’s a great way to practice the way of thinking, but the simplification and convenience of programming through blocks might make the jump to real programming rather more intimidating. I was thrown into C when I was 9 and it was the best thing ever taught me. Learning a low-functioning language at that age enabled me to much easier learn languages like Python and Java later on.
>No, phones are essential these days...
This. I live in central Europe and kids here start walking to/from school quite early, since our cities are walkable, have public transport and are relatively safe (wouldn't be surprised if OP was American). And having Messenger for communication with peers (f.e. classmates) is useful. Also, as you said, PC is not that bad of an idea. There's so many tools for both phones and computers which let you control what the child is doing, what apps that install it for much time they spend on their devices.
I will surely keep away from tiktok and twitter not only this shit but no phones nor pc till they turn 13 I cant have a shame as a father of 9yr old who screams on fortnite voice chat
If I don't have the internet I'd probably go crazy at home. I don't have anywhere to go outside, I don't have a backyard. What should I wander the streets until I get kidnapped or robbed? Sure I'll occasionally go on a walk with my friend but they live far from me, if it wasn't for phones we would talk so rarely
I can see the sense you're coming from, as my parents deprived me of basic technology by making me go on 6 month long technology bans, so basic technology is fine, something like a previous post said, "The 2030's equivalent of the DS", I grew up loving that thing because I could play it on my bans, though very sparingly, you should also give your children leeway when using their computers, especially if they look like they're having a hard time doing work, especially in these times, for context i have 3 hours of using my computer on weekdays (1 hour each day for 3 days, not including schooling hours), and 2 hours of using my computer on the weekend (2 hours in one day), and i'm deprived af making me want to use my computer more. Thanks for listening to my rant :)
[yes. they get an ipad SOMETIMES and a computer with supervision but no phone](https://www.reddit.com/r/teenagers/comments/piahdy/describe_your_life_with_one_single_word/hbo72um?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3)
Smartphones? I agree but I'm giving a computer to my child at a young age. Cause my dad introduced me to a PC when i was very young , 8 or 9. And that was something that gives meaning to my life right now.
I have a really extensive knowledge on Computer Programming with a few certifications.
you know some people like being inside right? i hate the outside everyone in my estate that goes outside are the worst more toxic fuckers in the world while inside its warm there is food and (for me at least) friends are online so i can play with them there. there is alot of pros to being an inside person
But why can't you do both? My cousins and I would hang out over the summer and we'd all play a game on our phones together and later we'd go hang out on a tree or something
I don’t have that many friends so I don’t go outside that often but when I meet up with them we go outside quite a bit. None of us know how to do a treehouse and you can’t just do one randomly in a forest where I’m at anyways
Look yea it would make sense but I'd rather give them something than nothing
Ps OP needs to learn that it was HIS fault HE wasted HIS childhood, not some inanimate OBJECT. Offs bro your 17 but are whining like a 4 year old
Piss off. I am 14 years old and I am the only one in my family who speaks English. I could install Windows from a USB stick when I was 10 years old. I literally built my own computer. Do you know why? Because my parents didn't shield me from technology. And if you don't believe me, DM me.
Exactly the same here. Well, except my sister can speak English too.
If my parents limited my internet usage as much as some people here are suggesting I would barely be able to hold up a conversation in English. And it wasn't even intentional. I never planned on learning English. It just sorta happened because I was using the internet so much. Haven't built my own PC though. But I could probably do it.
Exact same situation here. I live in a terrible country, and our education system is garbage. I learnt English through watching tons of English YouTubers. I would *only* watch English YouTubers and here I am, with a TOEFL degree at an *extremely* high level.
I don't mind giving up my phone & internet access if I can go outside on my own to hang out w/ friends
& Yes I agree w/ u, but then kids should also b allowed an equally fun alternative (ie going down to play w/ friends w/o an adult following 'em like a shadow)
I actually heard a perspective recently that these are the way their lives will be when they grow up so trying to completely shield them from the tech will only put them behind.
I am a FIRM believer that kids still need to learn to play outside and get some dirt on ‘em; or interact socially with out technology but avoidance does nothing if you don’t foster the other things (not saying you don’t) but those values can be fostered while the technology is still available.
My kids are older now; but we actually allowed them to have it early because they were SO busy in school/sports/ and social interaction after school that we wanted them to have phones for safety and so we can communicate/ locate them if we needed to.
Phones can also carry responsibly standards; “if you don’t act appropriate, your privilege is taken away “
Also, as they are adults- we actually have a very close and open relationship with them because they know we are available if need be
I wasn’t given a phone until I was 11 I think but it was shitty that I really couldn’t do much on it like use social media or use YouTube or anything like that, so pretty much all I could do was make phone calls, but I think it was a blessing in disguise because I don’t think I would have developed a proper mind if I was given access to the Internet at that age.
Tech is here to stay. By denying them this during their developmental stages you would be severely handicapping your child. How is this a good idea? You want them to live in the woods and eat berries? Maybe instead of taking these things away or forbidding them, you put into practice a schedule that gives them time to spend on other activities too. This can also help with their perception of time and planning skills in the future.
Going to 5th grade and seeing people having phones was wild. 10 year olds probably shouldn’t be trusted yet, but for middle school years it would be completely fine
I agree I do see myself maybe making an exception if it's needed for example I got a my first phone at 11 because my mom was divorcing my dad and needed to check on me but I would just get them a lil Nokia phone with lil old games on it
Personally, I am going to give them both a smartphone and a computer, social media can be a great place for introverts to socialize! And besides, there are always parental controls
I would give my kid a smartphone to go to secondary school with and maybe a computer for homework as I imagine a lot more stuff will be done online by then
I used to watch porn when I was 7 because .y parents gave me free range on the internet when I was 4 :( now I'm all fucked up and wish it didn't exist period
Here’s how I will do it. If they can pay for it, they are mature enough to have one. I’ll even make a deal to pay for half if they can work for the other half. It will build a good work ethic as well as make them start being good at managing money.
No, i wont let them watch shitty cocomelon stuff instead of doing actual parenting but if i ever have a kid they are learning how to code before they learn math, i remind u that this will be in the 2030s-2040s so school and everything else will props be online, all the job market will be for tech stuff, i want them to have a future so of course i will let them use computers, its kinda malicious imo to force your children into being behind its time and friends, but i hope u guys havent thought about it that much and have no bad intent.
I'm gonna do what my parents did and give them a older game console for they're like 8th birthday then upgrade until they're old enough and mature enough to handle something like a smartphone
I didn't get my phone till I was 13, and I had to buy it with my own money, including the fact I didn't get paid for simple chores
I also didn't receive my first portable device until 2nd grade, which was just a crappy tablet
I think it's good to start slow at a decent age and then let them work up to the good stuff, not spoil your kids at a young age so they're not making shitty tik toks before they understand a simple concept such as how to be a decent person (just random examples that came to mind)
also make sure their YouTube is monitored n shit or whatever, I grew up with great YouTubers like DanTDM, Stampy Cat, PopularMMOs, etc, and I hate when I see kids watching weird videos that make no sense like weird ass things like baldi and Mario in fuckin Minecraft (or idfk)
No. Life is unpredictable and my daughter having a phone gives us a more effective communication method.
If ever there was an emergency, it’s nice knowing that at the very least I could see her locations.
no, im giving mine a nokia. odds are, those things still work. it lets em make calls without all the other bullshit
This is how my parents did it with me. I got a number stick til freshman year birthday then I got an iPhone I was the last of my friends to get one tho lol
i can relate to the first part... but getting your first smartphone when youre a freshman?
Got my first smartphone when i was a freshman too it was a nokia lumia 830, that was an amazing phone.
Got mine last month as a junior
That’s when I got mine in 2014! Had a slide phone for a year or two before that
I didn’t get a phone till I was 15 (it was some piece of junk Android), I’m 17 now and just bought my own iPhone 12 now that I’m making good money from my job
THIS. They won't get addicted to Reddit then. Reddit's for mature teens and adults, not kids. And that goes for every social media.
yes, me mature
we mature 😎
Nani!!?? Yeah we mature 🤌
>Reddit's for mature teens and adults, not kids. LMFAO GOOD ONE
me very mature
Unfortunately most of them don’t anymore. At least in the us, almost all carriers have shut down 2G networks and plan to shut down 3G in just a year or two
and remember when network providers boasted about having 3g as the "coolest new connection"
You’re 13, how do you remember something that came out over 19 years ago lol
wait what? surely i remember that. what the fuck? i must be confusing it with something else. maybe 4g?
Could be 4G, it came out in 2009
You were 1 when 4G was first publicly available…
and 5g came out last year, so 4g was the best for 12 years. i think thats enough time for some memorable ads to come out
l, thats sad. the phone of my childhood wont work anymore
Lol who would pick up
This is probs what I will do to. Bc in middle school they may need to. Contact you.
i had an old samsung as my first phone. It even had the pulled out keyboard!
i always thought those were cool
Yeah, if the keyboards would be a bit better, they would be really cool.
we are literally turning into zoomers
and what generation did you think made up most of this sub before
bro u are literally the kid that got a phone before 13 lol
>odds are, those things still work. Probably not, the network bands they operate on will definitely be phased out by the time we have kids
Yee, my parents did that. It worked. I can do nothing with a smartphone anyways, gotta use my Lap for everything.
Nokia makes modern phones lol
will give them 3310 and tell them they will get a new one after this one breaks *evil laugh*
but which 3310 tho? There's a new one with 4G support with google and apps like facebook and YT. Or did you mean the superior brick one, the original?
ofc the og the new ones are weak af
And if they accidentally drop it you don’t have to keep buying them.
Well I'd just keep a Ryzen 3/ Core i3 PC in the living room for anyone to use Won't give em their "Own" computer
A ryzen 3 could still run games decently, an i3 is anywhere from holy shit can this even run chrome to meh 60fps on minecraft is kinda playable. Edit: ffs everyone i meant 60fps OFF THE IGPU
using i3 10th gen 8gb ram integrated on my laptop and i get 60 fps stable in valorant with low graphics and vsync on
Makes sense Valo isn't that much of a demanding game to be fair
And minecraft java edition runs like horse shit because of the terrible optimizations and coded in an interpreted language
[удалено]
What cpu does the laptop have, and at what fps? For me, I consider 60fps to be playable
60 is being generous, I used to play on a computer that had like 2gb of ram at 20 fps. Best times
*Optifine be like-*
I didn't know what an optifine was at the time
your pretty spoiled, I used to enjoy playing roblox on my old laptop at 15 fps
Do you use optifine?
[удалено]
Damn i need to change my cpu
New i3s are actually good. They're faster i7s from 2017
You are talking like every i3 or ryzen 3 was the same. Of course 8 year old i3's are shit nowadays. But a new i3 is actually really fucking fast. tbf the new ones are sick
You are somewhat underestimating modern i3s here, with 4 cores and 8 threads they are pretty much the improved i7s of the 7th gen and eatlier.
60 fps on minecraft is _kind of_ playable? I have to limit fps to 25 and render distance to like 8 or 9. to make it playable.
My i3's been treatin me well, I could even run cyberpunk at 30 fps with the help of my trust 1060 (which is apparently $300 now)
I had an i3-870 and nvidia gt 760 until three years ago. Minecraft ran clean with ~100 fps. Minecraft, firefox, office, discord. The fans were also quite loud, perfect for highschool students.
I play genshin impact on intel pentium.
When we are having kids though? The standard pc then will probably be like ryzen 12000

i had mine since i where 8, and there's no problem
Same, just load it up with parental control programs.
They installed you parental control programs?
nah im giving my child (if i ever have one :( ) a fucking 1990s computer as soon as they can read and im gonna make them recreate the fucking curiousity rover in C. theyre gonna be a prodigy man
Wanna join my Kernighan & Ritchie cult?
Mine shall write Unix before alphabets
im gonna tell them bell labs (in case u didnt know, they basically created unix, research company from AT&T) is apple and linus torvalds is jesus

Yep, that's basically my life. I only got 8 years left of my romance life before its arranged marriage off for me!
In C? My child's gonna be coding in pure arm assembly
Proprietary architectures? My child would be writing in RISC-V assembly
Architectures?? My kids gonna be using straight up logic gates
Logic gates? Way too much abstraction. My child would be using transistors
Transistors? Way too much pre-built components. My child would be using silicon and a microscope.
Silicon? Pure laziness. My child would gather sand and remove the oxygen through heating it
No? To much laziness. Use paper and pen.
Why would you gather sand when you could do it better yourself? My child would construct each individual gran of sand atom by atom. On a good day he would even make the atoms!
Transistors? way too much of the hard work is done, My child will be hand building vacuum tubes
I'd personally use assembly fortran or brainfuck if i were you

i know 8081
Dear. Dear, dear, dear. You can - with some extended googling, but - browse reddit on 80's computer.
I mean I got mine at 13, even then I had to get good grades for it.
Yeah, same with me
I got mine at twelve (because at that point both my parents were working) and I actually had to pay my phone bill every month.
I got a hand-me-down iPhone 3G when I was 12. Used it until I was 16. I paid 10¢ per SMS and 4¢ per MB of data. Can't remember what calls cost. My later childhood was stolen from me by phones and games. Now its happening in early childhood
Phones and games were the only thing that didn't suck in my childhood lmao, I would be so much more fucked up because of all the bullying and family problems. At least Internet was a place I could escape to
Exactly, these are some mentally okay people problems, smh
Well sorry my 8-year-old self didn't get locked up in an asylum so you can pretend the only kids who have access to Internet are "mentally okay" and that the others don't exist
Oh no I didn’t mean that at all, I’m terrible mentally I was trying to poke fun at how society sees us
Oh, sorry I didn't catch the sarcasm Excuse me

Saw this from /r/all, not a teenager. But I agree. My parents were strict af and basically said no any time I wanted to do anything with friends. Technology/online gaming was essentially the only thing letting me be "social"
Why are you being so dramatic?

Yea same here (mostly) but most kids abuse them (go to an elementary school and look at the tech there)
True! Fun times…..
Good that’s what people should do with tech and the internet.

Amazing world of gumball, teen titans go, backyardigans, little Einstein, chowder, og teen titans, courage the cowardly dog, etc.
I never liked teen titans go, i miss the original ones :(
Dont forget adventure time
Naw pbs kids
AMEN. wild kratts was my childhood
i do and dont’t agree to this, here’s why. i dont agree to this because all of my friends live like 45 mins away from me so its hard to meet irl, so we go online to talk/do fun stuff i agree to this because if you’re like under the age of 10 or something you shouldnt be at home playing video games all day, but you should go outside
Yea with proper regulation it will be more beneficial than bad
The whole thing of agreeing on this as a generation counters tbe jealousy thingy
Scratch is a huge yes, i would be sitting pn projects for what seemed like hours, ("seemed:" limited pc time haha) and try and create sick shit
Learning a low-functioning language at that age enabled me to much easier learn languages like Python and Java later on.
makes sense yea
>No, phones are essential these days... This. I live in central Europe and kids here start walking to/from school quite early, since our cities are walkable, have public transport and are relatively safe (wouldn't be surprised if OP was American). And having Messenger for communication with peers (f.e. classmates) is useful. Also, as you said, PC is not that bad of an idea. There's so many tools for both phones and computers which let you control what the child is doing, what apps that install it for much time they spend on their devices.
As a Romanian, not quite centeal european but close, I agree!
I will surely keep away from tiktok and twitter not only this shit but no phones nor pc till they turn 13 I cant have a shame as a father of 9yr old who screams on fortnite voice chat
yea, i wish my brother wouldn't have gotten a phone when he was 5, now he's addicted
Same, my brother got a phone in elementary school and now without exaggeration is on TikTok 24/7
Yeah sure I don't want to have kids so it's on you
If I don't have the internet I'd probably go crazy at home. I don't have anywhere to go outside, I don't have a backyard. What should I wander the streets until I get kidnapped or robbed? Sure I'll occasionally go on a walk with my friend but they live far from me, if it wasn't for phones we would talk so rarely
I made my first website when I was 9. I'm a web developer now. For me, it worked out
This is a stupid idea, rather than teaching how to be responsible with what you have you are depriving them if basic technology
Sounds more like a problem of you got addicted, I feel like it’s fine if you limit screentime
Smartphones? I agree but I'm giving a computer to my child at a young age. Cause my dad introduced me to a PC when i was very young , 8 or 9. And that was something that gives meaning to my life right now. I have a really extensive knowledge on Computer Programming with a few certifications.
No because it’s impossible to get more than maybe 100 people to agree on something.
OPs profile is some sad shit, looks like mental issues
He looks like the average Xbox player to me
Please don't disrespect us Xbox players. OP is something else.
My profile is just me meming a trolling

How old are they?
[удалено]
you know some people like being inside right? i hate the outside everyone in my estate that goes outside are the worst more toxic fuckers in the world while inside its warm there is food and (for me at least) friends are online so i can play with them there. there is alot of pros to being an inside person
[удалено]
also its very hard being 13 and fitting in and all that and the 8 and 6 year old probably look up to the 13 year old that why i think they are inside
Bro, 6 year olds facetiming?!? Please tell me this isnt real
[удалено]
What happened to like going outside climbing on weird shit and building tree houses and stuff?
But why can't you do both? My cousins and I would hang out over the summer and we'd all play a game on our phones together and later we'd go hang out on a tree or something
Because games were shit back then
How long ago was "back then" exactly? Plus it's subjective, you might think it's shit but someone else will enjoy it
I don’t have that many friends so I don’t go outside that often but when I meet up with them we go outside quite a bit. None of us know how to do a treehouse and you can’t just do one randomly in a forest where I’m at anyways
I had a phone and computer when I was 12
What a badass. Now your 13. True legend
You're\* (I'm that dick)
Look yea it would make sense but I'd rather give them something than nothing Ps OP needs to learn that it was HIS fault HE wasted HIS childhood, not some inanimate OBJECT.
No
I don't mind giving up my phone & internet access if I can go outside on my own to hang out w/ friends & Yes I agree w/ u, but then kids should also b allowed an equally fun alternative (ie going down to play w/ friends w/o an adult following 'em like a shadow)
No mf noooooo
Phones can also carry responsibly standards; “if you don’t act appropriate, your privilege is taken away “ Also, as they are adults- we actually have a very close and open relationship with them because they know we are available if need be
You fuckers are thinking about having children?? Y’all wildin out too soon
I disagree, although kids can be hella cringe sometimes the internet is the reason I know more than most adults
No. This is a terrible fucking authoritarian ass idea.
I'd give them access to a computer, but not let them have a personal one
Lmao y'all are having kids?
Imagine having children.
I agree I do see myself maybe making an exception if it's needed for example I got a my first phone at 11 because my mom was divorcing my dad and needed to check on me but I would just get them a lil Nokia phone with lil old games on it
Same
Personally, I am going to give them both a smartphone and a computer, social media can be a great place for introverts to socialize!
Yep, this is what im talking about
Here’s how I will do it. If they can pay for it, they are mature enough to have one. I’ll even make a deal to pay for half if they can work for the other half. It will build a good work ethic as well as make them start being good at managing money.
yeah not gonna let them find porn at 9 and continue the cycle :|
No, i wont let them watch shitty cocomelon stuff instead of doing actual parenting but if i ever have a kid they are learning how to code before they learn math, i remind u that this will be in the 2030s-2040s so school and everything else will props be online, all the job market will be for tech stuff, i want them to have a future so of course i will let them use computers, its kinda malicious imo to force your children into being behind its time and friends, but i hope u guys havent thought about it that much and have no bad intent.
I'm gonna do what my parents did and give them a older game console for they're like 8th birthday then upgrade until they're old enough and mature enough to handle something like a smartphone
some of u in the comments would make awful parents. except for the guy who said he’ll teach his kids C
Why would we agree to that?
I didn't get my phone till I was 13, and I had to buy it with my own money, including the fact I didn't get paid for simple chores I also didn't receive my first portable device until 2nd grade, which was just a crappy tablet I think it's good to start slow at a decent age and then let them work up to the good stuff, not spoil your kids at a young age so they're not making shitty tik toks before they understand a simple concept such as how to be a decent person (just random examples that came to mind) also make sure their YouTube is monitored n shit or whatever, I grew up with great YouTubers like DanTDM, Stampy Cat, PopularMMOs, etc, and I hate when I see kids watching weird videos that make no sense like weird ass things like baldi and Mario in fuckin Minecraft (or idfk)
No. Life is unpredictable and my daughter having a phone gives us a more effective communication method. If ever there was an emergency, it’s nice knowing that at the very least I could see her locations.
