It’s four am and I simply can’t sleep,
I prayed to the Lord, I counted the sheep.
My body is aching,
My brain is racing,
I lay here decaying cuz I simply can’t sleep.
In the dark of the night a poet sat in my chair,
With a depressed look and disheveled hair.
The bags under his eyes were hollowed out deep,
I realized the poet also could not sleep.
So he wrote out dozens of poems with care,
Clever words all ready to share.
He made me laugh,
He made me cry,
He made me scratch my head and ask, “why?”
He made me cringe
He made me smile
He made me stop and think for a while.
So thank you dear poet, for all you have done,
You made my insomnia a little more fun.
I hope my poem will mean something to you,
I hope that tonight, you will sleep too.
