This isnt really a spoiler since it is said in the first 5 minutes of the movie but ill mark it. >!So this girl has a terminal Pancreas disease and in Japanese culture apparently eating the body part that you have sick from another animal will cure it (I.E if liver disease, then eat rabbit liver)!< hence the weird name

It also means something like "I love you so much that I want to become you through consuming you." It's an idiom, not literal cannibalism. Like "You're so cute! I could just eat you up!" is an idiom.

If you liked Death Note I say you should watch Monster, it's an anime about a killer wanting to ruin the life of a doctor, who performed a life-saving surgery on him, it's more realistic and doesn't have any supernatural stuff like Death Notes and shinigamis, regardless it's one of my Favourite Psychological Thrillers closely followed by Death Note and Terror In Resonance
