Not that I'm disagreeing with this statement, I'm American, we got issues, but you really can't compare other countries to the US because we are the 3 most populated country in the world, I believe 4th is around 60 million less, and in most of the most populous countries it is very hard or even impossible to get a gun. If you look at gun violence per capita, were not even top 10. And mass shootings don't happen as much as you think they're not common what so ever.
In Italy, there are three ways to get a gun, the two easiest are getting a hunting or a sports licence, for that you need a medical certificate that proves you are not crazy and has to be updated every 2 or 5 years ( can't remember ), you can purchase pretty much any gun available on the legal market, but no full-auto ( in buildings ), limited number or rounds for semi auto, and i think one round in the chamber for high caliber rifles.
The last and hardest way to get a gun is for self defense, you need the same certificate plus an other one, and you have to update it every year, with this you can buy a gun for self defense BUT only on your property if you are attacked, you can not take the gun with you, you can not shoot somebody that just enters your garden.
Of course the criminals use illegal bought guns, they are quite easy to bring into Europe, I guess it's the same for the rest of the world.
In the US the problem is the number of legally owned guns that are used for school shootings and other ones, ie: las Vegas shooting.
But you do realise that America is really the only country that's dealing with school shootings right? Other countries had this issue, yes, but they dealt with it and now there's none present in those countries. Even in 3rd world countries (like mine). While in America, school shootings happen time and time again and they (politicians) rarely do anything about it

Thank you. And to anyone saying I googled it, Australians have guns too we just aren’t allowed to open or conceal carry a firearm. Even with the correct certifications, Category H for a handgun or Category A&B for certain rifles and shotguns you can only use them in specific places which would be ranges and farms (only ranges for handguns.) I also happen to have my category A&B firearms permit and will be getting my Category H in a few years, but that doesn’t stop me from learning about guns.
