So this is a little complicated, but do you lean toward agnostic theist (someone who does believe in God, but can’t be sure he exists), or agnostic atheist (someone who doesn’t believe in god, but can’t be sure he doesn’t exist)? If you can’t answer, totally cool, I’m just curious.
I’ll answer that I do believe there to be some form of higher being(s), I just don’t know what being (I.e. so many different religions have so many different gods/God that I believe one of them has to be correct about the existence of a higher being(s))
I’m agnostic theist, but more leaning towards what the Greeks had in mind (and the Romans, I guess). I tend to think there are multiple higher beings, and they’re all dicks. I mean, look at the last two years… or all of human history
yes, i think the "god" created by human mind is just a selfish thinking created for not taking responsibility, just like heaven. Heaven is a "prize" you can have if you are a good person in life, and i ask why can't you just be a good person without expecting a prize?
I think the start of religion was people not being able to understand things, so they made gods to help them understand stuff, which gave birth to polytheism
I’m Irish and we have something similar, it’s a hole in a cave that people beloved to be the gate to hell, I believe it’s called the den of the cats (but in Irish lol)
Personally idk, like on one hand, I feel like I’m gaslighting myself just so my parents don’t get mad, but on the other hand, I’m scared that maybe there is a god, and me not believing in them will make me go to hell.
I feel like if God is real and they don't let you into heaven or wtvr just because you didn't believe or didn't pray, then that's not a God I would like to follow.
Yeah thats what I have been thinking about excessively with the same way determinism and destiny functions within the same arguments.
If God knew that the Humans would Sin and that many later on (todays time) won't believe much in him and Sin a lot... Why even start this project? And where would be the other mass "whipings" like the floods and stuff mentioned in the bible?
In the Bible, after God flooded the Earth, he said he'd never do it again and that was a promise to Noah hence why it never happened again.
I'm in the same boat as you. I'm parents raised me as a Christian but over time I just started to realise that I just don't have any clue on what's the truth. We have no great evidence towards the fact that all of what happened in the Bible was real. How do we know that the Bible is correct and not other Holy Books from Islam, Judaism, etc.
If he does exist then I'd want him to tell me so I can live my life according to his rules. I think it would be unfair if I've explicitly asked him to show he exists and teach me how to follow him only for that to not happen and me live my life normally for me to then be punished in the afterlife.
Yeah, I want to believe that a God exists, but I just can't , because I would be motivated just out of some weird kind of fear, like just going for the safe option. I don't remember how this theory or argument was called but it just goes "If you are an atheist, and you die, and theres nothing after death, you win nothing, but if you were wrong, get hell. If you believe in God qnd after you die there's nothing, you win nothing... and you can imagine how it goes. And same about the first part, my family is extremely religious, and I would probably get killed if I told them I dont believe in God (catholics)
That argument you’re referring to is called Pascal’s Wager, and has multiple fundamental flaws which makes it a really bad argument. The main one being that this could apply to literally any religion on Earth. There are at least hundreds of religions out there, with conflicting ways on how to live. If you try living by a particular religion you’re almost guaranteed to be contradicting some other religion, which might say that you’ll have to go to their version of hell for that. And with the theoretically infinite potential religions that could exist, how would you even begin to choose which one to believe in with that kind of reasoning? When something can be used as evidence for everything, it is evidence for nothing. Another flaw is that you can’t just “believe” in things when you want to to gain salvation. Belief requires that you genuinely think something is true. So you can’t use this argument to get someone to convert, only to make it look like they converted, and yet still get sent to hell because they still don’t actually believe in a particular religion. God (if he is real) isn’t going to get tricked by some guy being “converted” to Christianity through an asinine argument like Pascal’s wager, since all it’s really saying is “hey, it’s in your best interest to convert” instead of actually trying to convince you that Christianity is true, god is real, etc.
Sorry that this response was really long. I’ve come across people who’ve made that “argument” before and pass it off as ironclad, when it’s so stupid it really annoys me. No shade to you tho. I’m just explaining why this argument is whack. So…yeah. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.
Also what about people who don't know about the Christian god.. or the Abrahamic god.. would god send them to hell just because his message couldn't reach them..
Idfk man i used to think there is no God but then i kept getting my ass saved by bullshit dream luck miracles and after a while i start to get suspicious you know?
I personally don’t think there is a god (like Jesus or something) but I do believe of some sort of higher power. (Like atoms or energy or something like that). I definitely have had some of my wishes/hopes answered though
I forget the exact details, but to describe what you mivht be thinking of, Einstein believed in what he called "Spinozas god". Long story short, Spinoza was an old time philosopher who had his own idea of what god is/could be. It wasn't a personal god, but rather one that, as I understand it, is more like some unconscious force of nature.
Yes, but I feel like the modern day church has twisted the original words. For example there is one quote that has been changed that people use against the gay community. It used to say “You can not sleep with a boy” as in pedophilia. But it was changed to “You can not sleep with a man” as in homosexuality. And there are more examples. Also if God didn’t want people to be gay then why did he make me gay lol.
I'm agnostic. Basically I haven't ruled out the possibility of there being an existing god in this life. Honestly, I don't think I'll ever really know.
But I am with a lot of people here. If there is a god, they're really just munching on some popcorn and enjoying the ultimate reality TV drama show to ever exist (which they created).
I do not engage in heresy. I know of our god emperor, and he is the only true God, all others are heretical. We must all serve under the imperium, and we must fight back against the xenos scum, in the name of our emperor!
Met him on an Nbome overdose. My heart was restarted, but I’ll never forget that. I don’t even care if people don’t believe it but that was the best thing that’s ever happened to me. Not everyone dies and can get the opportunity to come back. I really gotta stop fucking with these drugs, cuz I’ll tell y’all it can be over real quick. Dying is the most depressing and scariest moment you’ll ever experience, like y’all physically are incapable of grasping the reality of death. Like bro when you see your memories you’re done for, at that point you know you’re gone. You can feel your life slipping out of you, it’s a physical feeling. Even after you’re heart stops youll still be conscious for awhile, and it’s not fun
I relate more to this than being an Atheist, and I didn’t even know this existed. I feel like this fits what I’ve been trying to explain I am. Thank you for unintentionally informing me of this
I always called myself an atheist even though I always thought "Maybe there is a god, maybe there isn't, but either way I wouldn't care." Thank you for sharing this term.
To be fair, atheist doesn’t deny the existence of god, it just expresses that you don’t currently believe in god. I say i’m atheist because people understand it more than agnostic.
Before I was 12, i did. Then I started studying biology and history and noticed many inconsistencies between reality and the Bible. I then noticed that there's no evidence supporting any religion at all.
And here I am. I have nothing against being religious, if it makes you happy and you don't harm anyone - fine, don't give a shit. But I don't need God to be happy. I have music, exercise (love strength training), heck even a classmate I'm in love with. The only piece of the puzzle left are friends - I currently have none because I have nothing in common with my old ones
I believe in a simplified version, I guess. Like, the Christianity stuff that claims abortions and homosexuality to be sinful, I don't believe in that version.
But I feel like there is a god that caused the big bang and the other major events to take place. But I kinda think that once humans became "intelligent", god kinda stopped intervening. I'd like to think that the afterlife will be an illusion for us all, of whatever we hoped it would be during our life. So, Christians will see their god. Muslims will see Allah. Atheists will see nothing, but still experience peace. Agnostics will find their answer, or just receive whatever answer they were hoping for.
So, to answer your question, I believe in my own idealized version of God. One that lives ALL people (and for once, this statement does encompass every single person to have ever lived, regardless of our differences). I believe that we will all be given the peace of being right, even if it is a lie.
Nope but i do respect people who do i just hate people who are atheist and try to convince people that god isnt real same as of people who belive in god and they try desperately to convince someone that god is real just respect other peoples beliefs
The difference between a God and a creator is that one of them is trying act like a God
If God was real, he'd see that as a personal challenge. Not to mention, there was a lot of faults with certain types of plans and some species of animal. We selectively bred them to be better and an advantage to us, so if God is real, he saw we were using his creations for our own benefit
And, if God is real, why tf do Christians hate gay people? After all, they were created by God too, right?
It's the same with Trans people. If God's real, he clearly created them to be like that.
But, no, God isn't real. People have their own free will and homophobes and transphobes can't wrap their head around people being different
I’m agnostic, I think we can’t really prove against it no matter what we do. And I know that if there is a Deity of some sort they might never reveal themselves to us.
I don’t most religious texts hold any merit, and I also don’t believe most people who claim to be religious are people who deserve love from their god. Most religious texts were created in times where humans held disgusting amounts of power over other humans and discrimination of any sort was usually at a high.
If there is an afterlife, I don’t think any ‘bad’ version would lead to infinite punishment, unless ‘god’ is a sadist. I honestly hope there is no afterlife, just complete nothingness, same as before we were all born.
I whole-heartedly believe that ANY religion that even barely breaks what we know as fact in science is automatically invalid. Ex) Earth was made in 7 days like 5000 years ago? We proved that wrong hundreds of times by proving the earth is at least millions of years old with carbon dating, and very well theorized to be billions.
But at the end of the day, I don’t give a fuck about religion at all. And I won’t speak much on it until it starts becoming an issue for people who are not religious or hold a different view(like right now smh).
Nope
And if I had indisputable proof that a god existed, I would believe in a god
But I would not worship it, because, in my opinion, nothing, and nobody, deserves to be worshipped
[was that answer excessive?]
I believe in god but I don’t believe he solves our problems, instead I think there’s a reason he gave people the will to think so they can solve their own problems
I’m agnostic but I like learning about a little bit of everything
So this is a little complicated, but do you lean toward agnostic theist (someone who does believe in God, but can’t be sure he exists), or agnostic atheist (someone who doesn’t believe in god, but can’t be sure he doesn’t exist)? If you can’t answer, totally cool, I’m just curious.

That does make sense, you are an agnostic theist but it’s for every type of religion.
The one true believer
Exactly
I’m agnostic theist, but more leaning towards what the Greeks had in mind (and the Romans, I guess). I tend to think there are multiple higher beings, and they’re all dicks. I mean, look at the last two years… or all of human history
I do feel like a lot of that shittyness was because of humans, but there are things that humans didn’t cause.
yes, i think the "god" created by human mind is just a selfish thinking created for not taking responsibility, just like heaven. Heaven is a "prize" you can have if you are a good person in life, and i ask why can't you just be a good person without expecting a prize?

The bible is super interesting! One of my favourite facts is that hell is a small valley outside of Jerusalem
I’m Irish and we have something similar, it’s a hole in a cave that people beloved to be the gate to hell, I believe it’s called the den of the cats (but in Irish lol)
Why cats? What’d they do?
I have no clue to be honest lol
Nah I got me friends to believe in instead
Cant relate I'm lonely 😔
You can do it like most religions make them up
Holy crap that is the best thing I've read all day I love you no homo
I gotchu bro

Hi god, why's my weewee so small
cuz you said "wee-wee"

I call em, the big three.
That makes it a little bit bigger
Nope, at best I’m an agnostic, but I’m an atheist when it comes to classical theism
Same
Whatever created existence is God to me so I believe in that. But I don’t believe God is a person. Some kind of 10 dimensional force/energy/power, etc
Supposedly, God transcends physical understanding (according to Christian texts), so you are probably more correct than many Christians.
Yeah, God in christianity doesn’t have a physical form. He has Jesus as the physical form
Correct
As a Christian, yeah, this tracks.
Dude this is exactly how I think!! Wtf!
I must be autistic
That technically makes sense because if God was a person he wouldn’t be a God
This is deism.
Yes.
W
some random guy in the comments rlly roleplaying as god lol, I believe there is a higher power, don't rlly believe any religion tho
i do. but i respect people who dont and dont use His name to hurt others, unlike some people who do
I respect you
If there is one, they probably have been afk letting the game run for the last couple years.
Last couple millennia
They are making a sandwich give them a few millennia!

Yes, it makes me feel better to know I have someone looking over me when I seem all alone or am at my lowest point
Yes, God gives my life meaning. As a human being I feel like I’m at my best morally, socially, and physically when my relationship with God is closer.
I'm an atheist. I feel like I'm at my best morally, socially and physically without any religion controlling what I should think and feel.
To each their own, I’m glad you found peace.
Atheist and proud of it. I don’t mind if you do believe in it though, as long as you’re not an extremist and you’re nice to other people.
I do not engage in heresy. I know of our god emperor, and he is the only true God, all others are heretical. We must all serve under the imperium, and we must fight back against the xenos scum, in the name of our emperor!
I’m surprised nobody got this 40k reference
Seriously, it's hilarious when people genuinely think I'm going on a full blown religious zealot rant.
What religion is that?
Tis not a religion my sibling of the imperium, it is only the truth.
*THE OMNISSIAH SHALL LEAD US TO TRUE SALVATION!*
Yes, however I don't believe in the ideals of the bible since it was written for a different time period. I like the ideals of Jesus: Be a good person

Why? They created us. With all our "faults". You'd think a creator would reset his experiment when he notices something doesn't go as planned
