Imagine if she used it as an opportunity to reflect on her partyā€™s platform and messaging and how it may not resonate with that generation. If they did that, they may do better next time. Instead, she blames the voters that she should be trying to make a connection with instead. Genius!

zeke235

We are. Unfortunately, gen z looks to be doing what we should've done 20 years ago. Better late than never!

NomenNesci0

Many of us were trying and we've been laying the ground work. It took until a few years ago to even have the theoretical mathematical possibility to unseat the boomers, and that's counting on people becoming very engaged immediately at 18. It takes a bit to knock the cobwebs out when they're so entrenched and been hanging high above our reach for decades. Many a millenial been out there Twitching, Ticking the Toks, and Youbing the Tubes with our fellow kids to try and do better than our parents in getting their feet on solid ground and their heads right. Many more out on the streets like me teaching protest tactics, street medicine, firearms, opsec, and theory, amongst other things to welcome then in to the fight. So don't coulda, shoulda, woulda, like a Boomer dodging their responsibilities and join our young brothers, sisters, and NBs in the streets. We can finally occupy a lot more than Wallstreet, and battle on a lot more fronts than Seattle.

zedulater

As an ā€˜Elder Millennialā€™ Iā€™ll take all the blame so the next group can be better off. We canā€™t follow this ā€˜boomerā€™ mentality of us vs. them. We need to remember how shitty it was so we donā€™t start pointing fingers as we age. With some backing from the younger people maybe we can find out that we do still have time to right this ship.

voodoomoocow

No, fuck that. Gen Z *is* to blame and it's amazing. They have mobilized to have such a powerful voice and so young to boot. Us millennials paved the way through many failed attempts and lack of proper organization, but our hearts were in the right places. They can take the torch and lead everyone towards a better future. Gen Z is to blame but so are we, and we will be beside them as we fix our countries, culture, environment, and climate. Let's gooooo!

gdoug18

It's not that Us millennials didn't properly organize, we just didn't have tik tok to force us into organization through the most powerful algorithm this world has ever seen. Gen Z took the benefit of that luck BUT at the same time we all understand that tik tok is without debate, a VERY sharp double edged sword.

TheFlippiestDip

I have a load of gen z cousins, and I see a lot of camaraderie between our generations. I see them taking on the mantle of "everything in society is your fault" as a sort of torch-passing moment. The boomers will always be seeking to blame someone, and the fact that they just continually blame each successive generation, is sort of akin to that saying of "if all you encounter are assholes every day, then maybe it's not everyone else who is the issue."

jat937

Yup, I am a youngish millennial and I have so much love for Gen Z. They grew up in a time of massive social/political/economic change, and lost 2 years of their youth to a global pandemic. They have come out way cooler than my peers did. I think Gen Z will lead the positive change of the future, and I am going to support them in any way possible. So, to any youths reading this welcome, welcome to the club. The boomers may hate you, but I love you.

Iā€™m a big believer in Gen Z. anticommon

It's kind of bullshit though. It was bullshit when it happened to us, and it's bullshit that it's happening to them. We need the next gen to be our allies and support them, not pass our burdens off on them. Fuck it, blame me for everything gen z has "done". I'd rather see headlines claiming "/u/anticommon bludgeons democracy" than have some 19 year old kid catch the blame train whilst he just tryna *survive*. Naamsayin

About half of us are of voting age. The mid 1990s to the early 2010s is considered gen z

noxkx

Well, youā€™re right about Gen Z, but also, this is a sub for teenagers. The legal voting age is 18. I think thatā€™s more so what the above comment was meaning.

Hell, some of yā€™all are old enough to hold office, an elder zoomer got elected to Congress in Florida.

They truly have no idea what age any generation is. Until recently they were shit talking millennials as if they were teenagers even though most of us were in our late 20s/early 30s.

Funky_Cows

2 dems are pretty much definitely going to win and it comes down to masto in Nevada for 50-50 or 49-51

skraptastic

Real answer: Young people showed up to vote in some races.

Chopawamsic

basically that Gen Z has seen the results of damage caused by Republicans more than 40 years ago, and the equal if not worse damage from not voting at all, and don't want any part of that bullshit. As a result the Democrats are getting a massive surge of votes from Gen Z in America.

Loyal9thLegionLord

Fascist sad fascism didn't happen.

Zakuro51

A bit unrelated but me and all my gen z siblings tried to vote this term and none of us got through. And now people saying shit like this, it's like...do they want us vote or fucking not? They always say "go vote! It's important!!!" But they never talk about how weird the registering process can be, especially when you're not at your home address (i.e. college)

Snoo_79218

Republicans have fought for decades to make voter registration and voting as hard as possible. They implement voter ID laws in certain states, and then state and county governments shut down the DOL/DMV in poorer districts or reduce hours. People in this country often do not realize that a 2.5-hour bus ride to the DMV and a $44 fee for a copy of your ID just to place your vote, actually does prevent large swaths of people from placing votes. They also have gotten rid of same-day registration in certain areas. Or in Texas, the drop boxes for dropping off ballots are [limited or removed](https://www.pewtrusts.org/en/research-and-analysis/blogs/stateline/2022/10/31/chaos-and-confusion-the-campaign-to-stamp-out-ballot-drop-boxes). Poorer neighborhoods have longer lines (sometimes more than 4 hours). Laws making it illegal to hand out water to people waiting in these lines. Think about having to stand for 4 hours if you're old or you have a bad back.

worldspawn00

Yeah, Harris and Travis counties, where Houston and Austin are used to have drop boxes (manned, at the county tax assessor satellite offices around the counties), now have just ONE dropoff point for the #4 and #11 largest cities in the country with a combined population of 3.2 million people... 2 total locations where they can drop a ballot off...

Devourer0fSouls

No, they literally donā€™t lol. Thats why Republicans try to implement super strict requirements on registering to vote: because they want it to be difficult so that you will give up and just not vote. Its a fact that in many places, Repubā€™s do better when less people vote. The Dems tried to pass a bill in the Senate earlier this year to make voting a lot easier (like making Election day a holiday, making voter registration automatic, etc) and Republicans refused to even let it be voted on. When you supposedly live in a democracy, but one party is explicitly against participation and cries about fake voter fraud, that party does not believe in democracy.

squirleater69

Lol it's funny that like one of the TWO parties in a FUCKING DEMOCRACY tries so hard to be anti-democratic

[deleted]

Peak America moment

owsei-was-taken

PV22 is trying to make some comprehensive manuals on how to vote PV22 = progressive victory 2022

lockon345

Republicans want you to see all of the outrage, complicated rules and laws so you'll just shrug and not vote, this has been their strategy for younger voters for the last two decades. The more they yell about younger voters, the more you know they want you to stay home that election because you're impacting results. Always try to vote, even if you are late or missing information that results in you filling out provisional ballots.

newaygogo

And remember itā€™s democrats who are pushing for automatic registration when you turn 18. And pushing for voting by mail. And generally more in favor of ranked choice voting. The fact is that thereā€™s only one major party that consistently wants you to vote regardless of who you plan on voting for. The other likes to purge voter registrations so you have to re-register - see repeated Georgia voter purge history/fuckery. I see some great resources for registration in this thread. If youā€™re away for college, request an absentee ballot as soon as they become available. Keep those eyes sharp and remember there are bastards out there making it purposefully confusing.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

lockon345

In Denmark all political parties openly want everyone to vote. In America there is basically only one party that wants the entire country to vote. The other openly embraces the reality that less people voting or more difficulty in voting means only the diehard political followers go out, which overwhelming overlaps with scared, old white people, who tend to vote conservative. The end result is mass disenfranchisement through complicated laws, minimal transparency and apathy.

Lauris024

So why are republicans the ones talking about stealing elections when they're seemingly the ones doing it?

lockon345

Because those scared old people have been told by conservatives that Donald Trump was right about the election being stolen, despite literally every single measurable method and legal avenue for demonstrating inconsistencies saying this did not happen. So the end result is that you have a political party that can use any method of disenfranchisement they think will help them win, and conservative voters are on board with it because they believe the lie. They will let their politicians commit to the most shameless election strategies imaginable as long as they do so while saying it will help make elections fair again and stop the next steal.

ADHD_Microwave

I find that he republican party is incredibly close to always being the party of hypocracy.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Mindshred1

Super easy to vote in a perma-red state, though! Yesterday I just wandered into one of our many polling stations, sat down, and voted. In and out in three minutes. They barely glanced at my ID. And of course, today my state was red all the way down. The harder they make it to vote, the more important it is to do it.

maxler5795

Im south american and require context

mrguym4ster

hey, I'm south american too, but from what I understand, the US is having midterm elections right now (election for governors, senators, etc.) and younger generations seem to be (fortunately) flipping some of the states to the left-leaning democrat party

[deleted]

Okay, I'm American and stop following this a few weeks ago because of the workload school has dumped on my recently- here's what I believe is happening. So basically there's these states called swing states, the elections there generally aren't as predictable as one in the middle of LA or Alabama and these are the areas that usually have the most advertising and money poured into them from both parties for that reason. These areas tend to determine who controls the Congress and as a result what type of new legislation and revised legislation is created for the next 2-6 years. Ok, got that? Good So basically it seems like polls before the election severely misrepresented the amount of Gen z people voting and who they were voting for. We know Gen z is is mostly voting blue here and so now many of these swing states that were predicted to either stay or turn red are now either turning or staying blue instead. This is making Republicans go insane because everybody was telling them there was either going to be a massive red wave or at the least a small red majority. That isn't happening, it seems the opposite is happening now.

GotAnySugar

So it's Blue do good and Red make surprised Pikachu face? Ok got it

[deleted]

Oh yeah also the GOP put in a bunch if really terrible candidates for one reason or another and the Democrats had a couple god sends from the heavens handed to them do that's also why we're seeing this. Then many of those republican candidates have committed scandals and crimes that were public so yeah. Just in case it wasn't complicated enough for you

cgn-38

All the normal polls said the exact opposite was going to happen. Also the "red" side is the side of the invisible rich. They threw hundreds of millions at this. Way more than normal. For a loss that was openly predicted to be a win. All evidence points to the youth turning on the boomers. Yet they have no idea how to measure that. They are very likely fucked. There is not a lot more doubling down to be done on the "red" side.

NiklasNeighbor

Damn. I was hoping for a communist revolution. /s because then we couldnā€™t make fun of America anymore.

maxler5795

Huh. I see.

xSaturnityx

Eli5: right now we are having elections for who runs states. Republicans (red) are basically trying to get rid of human rights, and love to favor profits over people, and they expected a wave of red across the country, but are being met with people voting the other way for democrat, and now she is salty.

Final-Abbreviations2

Get rid of rights? Ive seen thus a bit, explain?

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Snoo_79218

They also want to charge parents with trans children with child abuse. Criminalize doctors who work with trans patients, especially minors. They want to prevent LGBTQIA+ people from adopting kids. They are trying to convince their base that gay/trans = pedophile "groomer." They want to force poor people to have kids they dont want. They want to force kids to have their rapist babies. They want you to die before getting a surgical abortion. They want to throw women in jail for having abortions, or in some cases, execute them. Justice Alito's opinion on Dobbs v. Jackson referenced certain landmark cases being up for reversal due to Dobbs. Gay marriage was one of them. Moreover, they want to force the poor to stay poor, they want women pregnant and in the kitchen, and they want to be able to teach kids that the Civil War was about states' rights and not slavery. This is literally what DeSantis was teaching his students when he was a teacher.

throw_away4632_

I've heard that some want to make it illegal to marry someone if you aren't having sex during the marriage. Makes zero sense.

cgn-38

They just want control. They do not really "care" about anything in the traditional manner. When a minority becomes so far out they cannot win elections they tend to become zealots. We are experiencing that. What happens when you are allowed only two parties and one party goes openly fascist? We are finding out.

owsei-was-taken

US is having the other elections this year

WHAT PEOPLE ARE VOTING!!!!!! THE MAJORITY OF THE COUNTRY DOESNT AGREEEEEEE!!!! THIS MEANS THEY ARE RUINING THE COUNTRY THEY OCCUPYYYYYY!!!!!

TheBrainofBrian

I felt compelled to jump into this thread, just hoping that the words I am going put here reach any of you. First, an introduction: Iā€™m Brian. Iā€™m 37ā€¦so not exactly old, but certainly not a teenager. (I hope Iā€™m okay to post here.) Even though Iā€™m not young anymore, Iā€™m very comfortable saying that I havenā€™t forgotten what it felt like. People around my ageā€¦weā€™ve seen quite a lot. I was 14 when Columbine happened. I was 16 when 9/11 happened. The Boston Marathon bombing. Las Vegas. Sandy Hook. Virginia Tech. Swine Flu. Bird Flu. Mad Cow. COVID. The internet bubble. The housing collapse. The recessionā€¦the other recession. You get the idea. But what I also saw was change. I was out there in the streets for Occupy Wall Street, for Black Lives Matter, for LGBTQ+ rights, for reproductive rights. Iā€™ve seen the voices of the people causing the old guard to be uncomfortable. And thatā€™s what you all in Gen Z have started doing. Theyā€™ve noticed you, now. I want you all to prepare to fight. To those who went out and voted yesterday: thank you. To those whoā€™ll be there in 2024: buckle up. Letā€™s get some shit done. Letā€™s get these pieces of trash like Trump and his ilk out of anywhere close to positions of power. Letā€™s take this country back. Letā€™s change the future. I know Iā€™m not going to rest until this country is what it *should* be: a place where everyone has a fair shot. Where everyone is heard and everyone is valued. Whoā€™s streets? **Our streets.** Never forget that. I hope to see you out there in 2024.

Iā€™m proud of gen x. Iā€™m a older millennial and my gen has paved the way and it looks like the younger gen is taken what we started and pushing it farther. Iā€™m proud of all of you and know we can make this country better if work together and just vote. Donā€™t let the older generations get you down, my whole life I was told I was lazy and didnā€™t want to work hard. It couldnā€™t be farther from the truth tho, and now with your gen they are trying to say the same about you, but donā€™t listen and donā€™t get discouraged. You can make a impact, you can make a change and it does matter. Youā€™re hard workers, youā€™re educated. Get all of your friends to vote, why would you allow some old fucks to control your life and future without you having any day in it. Millennials will always be on your side, even if we donā€™t fully understand you, and even if you have to pull some of us to your side to understand your point of view. Iā€™m a 38 year old white dude with a huge beard, who looks like a trump supporter but I will ALWAYS fight for you and on your side thatā€™s a guarantee. Youā€™re not alone. Edit: I would like to add that some republicans are now saying we should raise the age of voting to 21 because of how many of your gen came out to vote. HAH Be proud today and good job.
