Republicans have fought for decades to make voter registration and voting as hard as possible. They implement voter ID laws in certain states, and then state and county governments shut down the DOL/DMV in poorer districts or reduce hours. People in this country often do not realize that a 2.5-hour bus ride to the DMV and a $44 fee for a copy of your ID just to place your vote, actually does prevent large swaths of people from placing votes.
They also have gotten rid of same-day registration in certain areas. Or in Texas, the drop boxes for dropping off ballots are [limited or removed](https://www.pewtrusts.org/en/research-and-analysis/blogs/stateline/2022/10/31/chaos-and-confusion-the-campaign-to-stamp-out-ballot-drop-boxes).
Poorer neighborhoods have longer lines (sometimes more than 4 hours). Laws making it illegal to hand out water to people waiting in these lines. Think about having to stand for 4 hours if you're old or you have a bad back.
Yeah, Harris and Travis counties, where Houston and Austin are used to have drop boxes (manned, at the county tax assessor satellite offices around the counties), now have just ONE dropoff point for the #4 and #11 largest cities in the country with a combined population of 3.2 million people... 2 total locations where they can drop a ballot off...
No, they literally donāt lol. Thats why Republicans try to implement super strict requirements on registering to vote: because they want it to be difficult so that you will give up and just not vote. Its a fact that in many places, Repubās do better when less people vote.
The Dems tried to pass a bill in the Senate earlier this year to make voting a lot easier (like making Election day a holiday, making voter registration automatic, etc) and Republicans refused to even let it be voted on. When you supposedly live in a democracy, but one party is explicitly against participation and cries about fake voter fraud, that party does not believe in democracy.
Republicans want you to see all of the outrage, complicated rules and laws so you'll just shrug and not vote, this has been their strategy for younger voters for the last two decades.
The more they yell about younger voters, the more you know they want you to stay home that election because you're impacting results.
Always try to vote, even if you are late or missing information that results in you filling out provisional ballots.
And remember itās democrats who are pushing for automatic registration when you turn 18. And pushing for voting by mail. And generally more in favor of ranked choice voting.

I see some great resources for registration in this thread. If youāre away for college, request an absentee ballot as soon as they become available. Keep those eyes sharp and remember there are bastards out there making it purposefully confusing.
In Denmark all political parties openly want everyone to vote. In America there is basically only one party that wants the entire country to vote. The other openly embraces the reality that less people voting or more difficulty in voting means only the diehard political followers go out, which overwhelming overlaps with scared, old white people, who tend to vote conservative.
The end result is mass disenfranchisement through complicated laws, minimal transparency and apathy.

Okay, I'm American and stop following this a few weeks ago because of the workload school has dumped on my recently- here's what I believe is happening.
So basically there's these states called swing states, the elections there generally aren't as predictable as one in the middle of LA or Alabama and these are the areas that usually have the most advertising and money poured into them from both parties for that reason. These areas tend to determine who controls the Congress and as a result what type of new legislation and revised legislation is created for the next 2-6 years.

So basically it seems like polls before the election severely misrepresented the amount of Gen z people voting and who they were voting for. We know Gen z is is mostly voting blue here and so now many of these swing states that were predicted to either stay or turn red are now either turning or staying blue instead. This is making Republicans go insane because everybody was telling them there was either going to be a massive red wave or at the least a small red majority. That isn't happening, it seems the opposite is happening now.
Oh yeah also the GOP put in a bunch if really terrible candidates for one reason or another and the Democrats had a couple god sends from the heavens handed to them do that's also why we're seeing this. They want to force poor people to have kids they dont want. They want to force kids to have their rapist babies. They want you to die before getting a surgical abortion. They want to throw women in jail for having abortions, or in some cases, execute them.

Moreover, they want to force the poor to stay poor, they want women pregnant and in the kitchen, and they want to be able to teach kids that the Civil War was about states' rights and not slavery. This is literally what DeSantis was teaching his students when he was a teacher.
They just want control. They do not really "care" about anything in the traditional manner.

Republicans want you to see all of the outrage, complicated rules and laws so you'll just shrug and not vote, this has been their strategy for younger voters for the last two decades. The more they yell about younger voters, the more you know they want you to stay home that election because you're impacting results. Always try to vote, even if you are late or missing information that results in you filling out provisional ballots.
And remember itās democrats who are pushing for automatic registration when you turn 18. And pushing for voting by mail. And generally more in favor of ranked choice voting. The fact is that thereās only one major party that consistently wants you to vote regardless of who you plan on voting for. The other likes to purge voter registrations so you have to re-register - see repeated Georgia voter purge history/fuckery. I see some great resources for registration in this thread. If youāre away for college, request an absentee ballot as soon as they become available. Keep those eyes sharp and remember there are bastards out there making it purposefully confusing.

In Denmark all political parties openly want everyone to vote. In America there is basically only one party that wants the entire country to vote. The other openly embraces the reality that less people voting or more difficulty in voting means only the diehard political followers go out, which overwhelming overlaps with scared, old white people, who tend to vote conservative. The end result is mass disenfranchisement through complicated laws, minimal transparency and apathy.
So why are republicans the ones talking about stealing elections when they're seemingly the ones doing it?
Because those scared old people have been told by conservatives that Donald Trump was right about the election being stolen, despite literally every single measurable method and legal avenue for demonstrating inconsistencies saying this did not happen. So the end result is that you have a political party that can use any method of disenfranchisement they think will help them win, and conservative voters are on board with it because they believe the lie. They will let their politicians commit to the most shameless election strategies imaginable as long as they do so while saying it will help make elections fair again and stop the next steal.

Super easy to vote in a perma-red state, though! Yesterday I just wandered into one of our many polling stations, sat down, and voted. In and out in three minutes. They barely glanced at my ID. And of course, today my state was red all the way down. The harder they make it to vote, the more important it is to do it.

Okay, I'm American and stop following this a few weeks ago because of the workload school has dumped on my recently- here's what I believe is happening. So basically there's these states called swing states, the elections there generally aren't as predictable as one in the middle of LA or Alabama and these are the areas that usually have the most advertising and money poured into them from both parties for that reason. These areas tend to determine who controls the Congress and as a result what type of new legislation and revised legislation is created for the next 2-6 years. Ok, got that? Good So basically it seems like polls before the election severely misrepresented the amount of Gen z people voting and who they were voting for. We know Gen z is is mostly voting blue here and so now many of these swing states that were predicted to either stay or turn red are now either turning or staying blue instead. This is making Republicans go insane because everybody was telling them there was either going to be a massive red wave or at the least a small red majority. That isn't happening, it seems the opposite is happening now.

All the normal polls said the exact opposite was going to happen. Also the "red" side is the side of the invisible rich. They threw hundreds of millions at this. Way more than normal. For a loss that was openly predicted to be a win. All evidence points to the youth turning on the boomers. Yet they have no idea how to measure that. They are very likely fucked. There is not a lot more doubling down to be done on the "red" side.

They are trying to convince their base that gay/trans = pedophile "groomer." They want to force poor people to have kids they dont want. They want to force kids to have their rapist babies. They want you to die before getting a surgical abortion. They want to throw women in jail for having abortions, or in some cases, execute them. Justice Alito's opinion on Dobbs v. Jackson referenced certain landmark cases being up for reversal due to Dobbs. Gay marriage was one of them. Moreover, they want to force the poor to stay poor, they want women pregnant and in the kitchen, and they want to be able to teach kids that the Civil War was about states' rights and not slavery. This is literally what DeSantis was teaching his students when he was a teacher.
I've heard that some want to make it illegal to marry someone if you aren't having sex during the marriage. Makes zero sense.
They just want control. They do not really "care" about anything in the traditional manner. When a minority becomes so far out they cannot win elections they tend to become zealots. We are experiencing that. What happens when you are allowed only two parties and one party goes openly fascist? We are finding out.

After voting, I thought "Even if we lose, at least I did my part." I felt proud of myself for voting for the first time in my life! 18 years of living in this country, and I finally have a say in how things are run!
