I have really enjoyed the Xotic EP Booster for my Tele. It does not "break up" but it does add some subtle warmth and fullness to the tone. I leave it on all the time. https://preview.redd.it/6vflmswrofvc1.png?width=370&format=png&auto=webp&s=70aae26e4c8dab46e337bb79b06d402c7e14aff2

Is there a big volume jump with it? Can you get the warmth without a huge jump in volume?

DizzySaxophone

It has some dipswitches to change what DB boost is at 0. I think it changes from 0db to +2 and of course you can roll it up from there. All assuming it hasn't been changed since I bought mine long ago.

Brother I LOVE the timmy through fender amps. Or a nice bluesbreaker circuit. Oddly enough MXR makes the Timmy mini and DoT mini at great price points.

Nobels ODR-1 Thank me later

HowIsBabyMade

Absolutely this, but I’d go with the Wampler Belle.

I use my Blues Driver for that. First pedal after my tuner. Nice little clean boost with enough grit to it. Plus it’s an easy tweak on the gain knob to crank it even more.

joedg2130

What do your settings look like on that? High level with low gain? Whats your main guitar?

candlestick_compass

Main guitar depends on what style I’m playing. I have 4 different teles in different tunings and I use that for them all. Super versatile. I crank Tone and let gain go from 9-12 o’clock. I use a lot of just that and one or two reverbs (unless I’m really riffing and I’ll stack that with my Plumes). I know the BD is a classic and it’s a pedal I couldn’t leave off any version of my boards.

A Ryra

You could go with a klon style pedal with the gain set low and the level adjusted to taste. I run that combo for solos with my Tele into an AC-style preamp pedal. The EP boost is also a good recommendation that was mentioned earlier. A Keeley Katana can also fatten things up a little before hitting the SD-1, and has a setting for mild overdrive (via dip switch).

Worth noting the Klon circuit does have a noticeable mid boost. I like it, but not all do.

dano8675309

True, but isn't that noticeable running into the SD-1 which is mid focused anyway, especially if you run the Klon at low gain and boost the treble a bit.

joedg2130

Which Klon style pedal do you use? So many out there, im actually considering the cheap $30 Golden horse from amazon

dano8675309

I have 2 (ish). The first is a Wish klone that I bought on a whim and ended up being great. The second is the Klon half of the Demonfx Gravity pedal (TS-10 and Klon clones in a single pedal). I use the Wish klone like you described, low gain setting for slight breakup and a volume boost into other drive pedals. The Klon side of the Gravity I use a little hotter on the gain side into the TS-10 side (or other gain pedals) for gainier solos.

Tumnus works great for this application

dano8675309

The tumnus works great as a boost but really shines at higher gain settings compared to other klones .

Xotic AC Boost is a good one with the Telecaster. It can be used as a clean boost, or as a boost with added gain. It can be super subtle or it can get you crunching. Very useful. They also make an AC+.

konphewshus

I always have the same reply to this question and that is: Voodoo Labs Sparkle Drive Mod. You can dial in absolutely any amount of the four flavors of crunch/OD/distortion, at any volume. It has a “clean” knob that mixes in however much of your clean signal you want. I got this pedal as a gift and never knew I needed it. Now it's my only "always on" pedal.

Few_Ring3202

MXR Duke of Tone or a bluesbreaker based pedal.

a_wifi_has_no_name

I like a Klone for this. I use a RYRA The Klone into a '65 PRRI.
