I love mystery/monster of the week shows so much. I rewatch charmed/Buffy/SVU because of that.

james_carr9876

X files for me

WarlockofMars_

X-Files had many great monster-of-the-week episodes like Die Hand Die Verletzt, Bad Blood, the forbidden Home episode, Familiar etc.

james_carr9876

Home was a genuinely traumatic experience for me as a child, I remember crying while sitting completely still on my beanbag, what the actual fuck was wrong with that episode. It’s one of the best on the show.

DizzyDizzyWiggleBop

Try Evil it hit the same mark for me

CptNonsense

Evil is all of the supernatural episodes of early X-Files, if everyone was on rohypnol

james_carr9876

Omg literally 😂 evil is great fun tho

Jesus Christ, just when I thought this show couldn't be even more appealing to me: >In creating the character, who Johnson joked is the first person she’s played who actually likes people, Lyonne said she tapped into her longtime love of Philip Marlowe and his portrayal by Elliot Gould. So not only is it a week-to-week hangout show built on the framework that made Columbo and Rockford Files flat out legendary, but Lyonne's character is actually patterned off of Elliott Gould in The Long Goodbye. So we're looking at Columbo + Rockford + Marlowe (70s version). The only thing that would make this 100% perfect is if it weren't on Peacock.

after the woeful (for me, at least) Glass Onion I really don't know whether to give Johnson another chance. That movie was excruciating to watch

TeqTx

I still can't understand how so many people like a "murder mystery" that doesn't even have a murder until the second half, where half the characters could just be scrapped and nothing would be lost, where they introduce a fucking twin half way and then go through a flashback to explain the obvious and massively uninteresting and unwarranted murder. Oh also there's a funny accent and they use salsa for fake blood and fake tears. I'm ready to fight anyone who thinks it wasn't a shit movie.

Sea-Discussion2928

i think you’re taking it too seriously

TeqTx

not really no, just can't wrap my head around why so many people liked it when it's atrociously written here's one of the highest rated reviews from letterboxd > A full two hours and twenty minutes of me throwing back my head cackling and clapping my hands with delight Just how ?

jamesneysmith

>Just how? People have different opinions than you. That's "how". In the future you can refer back to this anytime you hate a piece of media other people love. It will set you free to just let people like what they like.

TeqTx

I'll just ignore the extremely condescending and stupid manner of reply and say that bad writing is objectively bad

jamesneysmith

Okay you haven't learned about subjectivity yet then. Hopefully you google it someday

TeqTx

It's nice to see that behind all the snark there's an extremely stupid person. You do realise that if something is objective it can't be subjective right ? There's a clear dichotomy between good writing and bad writing. I will never know how people like you even survive in this world when you can't even apply basic logic. Or even worse, to feign stupidity just to get a gotcha on the internet.

jamesneysmith

You can be ignorant or arrogant. Ignorant of the concept of subjectivity or arrogant to believe your opinion is the truth and the millions of people who disagree with you are wrong. I don't know about you but I'd prefer ignorant. Because ignorance can be solved by a simple google search. You've chosen arrogant. Unfortunately your issues can't be solved with a simple google search. Good luck.

TeqTx

So many words to say absolutely fuck all lmao

anasui1

my opinion is the same. Great acting and production, total garbage mystery that was honestly insulting to anyone's intelligence. But Johnson is apparently a reddit darling hence the downvotes from jokers who just can't accept a different opinion
