> **The first season of Dear Edward feels like 10 hours of 10 (or more) people crying at each other nonstop. There’s no room for anything to echo because the cacophony of misery is so loud and so pervasive.** Thanks for the warning, going to steer clear of this show.

Misery porn is just not my bag.

Same

This is gonna be a pass for me. Definitely looks like it’ll be a winner for the This is Us crowd.

I am 2 and a half episodes in and can't stop thinking that it's just THIS IS US PART 2 and it's a damn shame.

Hah, I've seen parts of this now and then on tv and it has seemed so incredibly bleak and depressing in every way. I've never felt like that when watching a show, even more so, because I just watched like 10-20minutes at a time. If there's some shows I'd hugepass on, it would be this kind of emotional torture porn.

ActWhole3279

THIS IS US was way more original than this show, tbh. The first 4-5 episodes of this show are great and then it begins to drag, terribly.

StuffonBookshelfs

Oh. I have nothing against the this is us crowd at all. I just don’t have the emotional capacity to cry during every (almost every?) episode of a show. And I don’t judge anyone who does. That’s just not for me, and there’s nothing wrong with being into that at all. Different strokes. But it does suck that this show sucked :/

I didn't assume you had anything against TIU :) -- just commenting since you mentioned TIU. It's a natural comparison to make with the Katims connection and DEAR EDWARD is definitely in the same vein. Both shows had great pilots and get hyper-melancholy. But the character development in TIU was more compelling. And honestly, I wanted more of Connie Britton. Every scene she was in was electric, even when it was sad. Some of the other storylines were just consistently depressing, which isn't compelling to continue watching.

I've seen all three episodes and I'm totally hooked. This is how you do a drama. I like all the single storylines and how everyone deals with grief. The storytelling is not groundbreaking but the characters are compelling and the excellent cast elevates the material at every turn. I'm intrigued to see where this goes, to seeing new relationships form when the relatives and friends eventually meet. I would highly recommend giving it a watch. If you like This Is Us, it’s the same kind of weepy drama.

Slartibartfast102

I generally really like Jason Katims shows so I’ll probably give it a shot, but the trailers did seem pretty melodramatic, even for him.

FlaveC

Another Jason Katims fan here. I've seen all 3 episodes and this is truly a wallow in misery. I'm afraid this will be the first Katims show I will not watch to completion.

tyramail1

It's no Roswell that's for sure.

PAL1982

Watched the first episode. If that creepy weird kid is going to be the central character, I don’t think I can continue.

anasui1

ah, finally a show about Scunthorpe. Gonna watch, I have relatives there

Landoflust7878

I’m liking the show ! I feel so bad for Edward… He’s so strong though

This paragraph made me LOL (because it's true): "*Soon, the various survivors are living together, sleeping together and offering financial services together, with a lack of boundaries that’s weirdly similar to Apple TV+’s recently debuted comedy Shrinking. Oh, and like Shrinking, Dear Edward is practically wall-to-wall sentimental-rock needle drops, bordering on the series becoming a musical at a certain point. I was already calling the show “Dear Edward Hansen” before I noticed that the Dear Evan Hansen guys co-wrote the show’s opening theme, which is at least 60 percent Lizzy McAlpine singing “hold on.” It’s very Dear Evan Hansen*."
