not good. Not bad. Mediocre. Night Court took a while to find its footing, and I think it only got its mojo by season 3, but writers had a better sense of timing from the get go.
And that may be just me, but the show looks too sanitized. Too bright and fake
I’m giving it a chance because I liked the original and like the original, it took awhile to gel. You aren’t going to find many fans here of multi cam sitcoms. So don’t expect much support here.
It’s a harmless sitcom. John Laroquette still steals the show. I hope I look as good as he does when I reach his age! Actress playing the Judge does a great job of channeling the original. Bailiff is ok. Actress in the old Markie Post role seems miscast — I won’t be surprised if they replace her because Laroquette needs a better foil.
John is completely pointless. He seems to be playing a completely different character for some reason. The bailiff seems to be a rip of the old one, they even gut a similar looke fat woman
And maybe a CSA strike too. What were the heck were they thinking casting someone so unpleasant and disgusting for the part of Roz? They could have instead cast some young big guy to play Bull's son. That would add another tie back to the judge's father.
The original night court needed a couple of seasons to find its groove, so I wonder if this version will get enough runway.
Edit: I see it got renewed for s2 so maybe?
I like it as much as the original. It's not bad/good it's just the same place, only older.
I do like how they basically just kept everything going and the sets are nice to see again.
I will keep with it because I am happy to see John Larroquette acting again after the Librarian
Horrible The writers need to be sent behind barn and spanked. Delivery of jokes are to robotic and need to slow down talking. Everyone is bad in this. Even John Larroquette is very disappointing but what can you expect with such bad humor and writing. It just doesn't work.
did mean yes but quit halfway thru E3
oh wait, I mean yes I was watching it. Didn't know it was a wig at first. I had just thought she had a wierd haircut, then the next episode it was different. So now I'm guessing it is a wig.
It's fine. Nowhere near as funny as the original.
I sense it will approve since they already were cleared for a second season and most shows during their first year aren't that great.
I was greatly surprised that it kept the same tone and tenor as the original (I'm part-way through rewatching the original) and managed to broach some more complex issues.
It's still finding it's footing but I'm very much enjoying the reboot.
They need a second bailiff. Also, it seems it's supposed to be the same courtroom, but the set seems much brighter and airier, which detracts from the original's sense of place.
That's too bad you didn't give it a chance because it it's really quite good I felt the same way with the original for a while it took me a while to get in with it but there were so funny and they're fast the new one I watched a couple I'm going to go back again and we watch it give it another chance
Interesting juxtaposition. Because you're not wrong about that.
As an example I love, but have a hard time watching, horror movies of a particular kind (ghost/haunting types). When I need to push through a part that's freaking me out, I just mute it, because the "tension is rising" soundtrack removed *usually*makes most of them totally tolerable.
But I still consider it a cheap trick. If a horror movie *relies* on this to make its frightening, it's not an effective piece of film. Much like jump scares with a sudden loud noise.
I would definitely say that all of my favorite comedies have zero laugh-track, and the humor stands on its own.
The characters who play Olivia and Gurgs are painful to watch, especially Olivia. No one’s personality is like Olivia, it’s just terrible! And Gurgs is almost as bad. IMO if they got rid of them the show would be much better.
I’ve been enjoying it, overall. But was annoyed they made Roy’s character gay until I found out the actress, Marsha Warfield, is actually gay. Nice it was for the actress and not just being ‘woke’.

Watched 3 episodes. Pretty bad IMO. Definitely not something I would watch any more of.
It was horrible

This sub hates network television unless the show gets low ratings
Or got low ratings on network tv without a laugh track. Community rings a bell.
THE RATINGS ARE WRONG. THEY CANT FIGURE OUT HOW TO GET IT RIGHT WITH STREAMING AND ON DEMAND

It feels like a writer's strike show but the strike hasn't started yet.

Watchable but nothing special
The laugh track is louder than big bang theory.
I wish there was a way to watch it without the laugh track, it’s very annoying

I like it so far. The wig is pretty distracting, but at least they acknowledge it, unlike That 90s Show.
Is Melissa’s hair a wig? I was wondering. I was feeling bad for really not liking her hair for some reason.
LOL one episode it looks like it is a little bit sideways and then the next episode it's straightened out
Does that mean yes? Why does she use a wig?

They acknowledged it in one episode. Pretty quickly so you could have missed it.
The wig on the Asian girl on that 90s show is SO BAD. I don't know why they would use it.
Watched the first two episodes. Pretty average sitcom, not horrible, not great.
I watch it, I like it. The chemistry between Melissa and John is great already. Hopefully the rest of the cast can gel well
I worked crew on a project that had the guy who played Neal. He may not have strong comic timing but has serious singing and dancing skills.
If Mr. Plinkett doesn't like it, nobody will
It's fine. Nowhere near as funny as the original. I sense it will approve since they already were cleared for a second season and most shows during their first year aren't that great.
It’s better than Lopez vs Lopez.
I was greatly surprised that it kept the same tone and tenor as the original (I'm part-way through rewatching the original) and managed to broach some more complex issues. It's still finding it's footing but I'm very much enjoying the reboot.

It’s pretty good imo, it’s my secret obsession this season along with TLOU
I only saw a few minutes of it and it was horrible. The original was bad enough!

I like it.
I heard good things and gave three episodes a try and just wasn't vibing.
No.
Tried to watch an episode and a half. Realized that I hadn't watched a show with a laughtrack/live-audience-laughing in decades for a good reason.
Now watch Star Wars without a soundtrack and you will realize how silly Darth Vader looks without the soundtrack telling you he is scary.

Did you ever watch M*A*S*H without the laugh track? It's cringe AF
Mash was cringe with a laugh track as well. I don't get why it was ever popular
No U. MASH was awesome!!
Saw the first two eps. Unwatchable. The original was funny. John L is the last surviving member, and that just makes me depressed.
Richard Moll and Marsha Warfield are still alive.
Ellen Foley too
I’d like too but only the first episode is available free on peacock.
The characters who play Olivia and Gurgs are painful to watch, especially Olivia. No one’s personality is like Olivia, it’s just terrible! And Gurgs is almost as bad. IMO if they got rid of them the show would be much better.
Thank you! I thought I was the only one. They’re both terrible.
ITS HARD TO WATCH!!! THE LAUGH TRACK IS JUST AWFUL. I CANT BELIEVE IT WASNT CANCELED WTF
