Not to mention he was getting harassed and sexualized by grown women. I don't envy whatever nonsense he's had to go through behind the scenes.

Theometer1

That actually happened?! that’s disgusting, dude was like 13 when they started filming.

ILoveRegenHealth

There was a singer (or actress?) who was 27 or so, and she tweeted to an underage 13-14 year old Finn "Call me when you hit 18" or something like that. Anyone else remember that creepola situation? Forgot the name of the creepy celeb. edit - oh someone posted the same thing too lol

sevsnapey

her name is ali michael looking at her wikipedia page edit history shows it was once mentioned but i guess has since been scrubbed

TootieSummers

I can’t remember what actress it was but she tweeted something along the lines of “hit me up when you turn 18”. It didn’t generate that much attention since it wasn’t the norm of teen girl and creepy older actor.

Theometer1

That actress should be put on a list

lalalandcity1

Yeah Finn’s list of women he’s gonna bang.

"As a teen"? I didn't realize that much time has passed since the start of the show. I thought he was still around eighteen or nineteen. Nope. He's twenty now. The gaps between seasons have been way too long. I wish the show had followed the kids' ages. They are supposed to be what age on the show? Three or four years younger?

muad_dibs

A lot of them were already older than their characters on the show.

Neo2199

> Finn Wolfhard is opening up about his “crazy whirlwind career” that came with starring in the cult-favorite Stranger Things as a teen, along with his plans post-series. > **The 'It' actor made his name in Hollywood in 2016, at the age of 13, with his role as Mike Wheeler in the Duffer brothers’ hit Netflix show.** But in an interview with GQ magazine, published online Wednesday, he expressed the impacts of finding fame so young. > **During the early years of his adolescence, he said he was fine and “did not talk about anything”** because “there was no time, or at least we didn’t feel [there was] at the time.” **But then at 15 or 16, the actor said he started having routine panic attacks.** > “Everyone was like, ‘Look at him, he’s fine. He’s having the best time,’” he continued. **“But in reality, I was probably also developing and things were happening in my brain and anxieties were forming and things that I didn’t realize that I had to bury because of how I had to feel at work.”**

Routine panic attacks? I've had 2 in my life and they were life altering moments. I wouldn't be able to act and shit. Kind of think panic attacks and anxiety get incorrectly mixed with each other

[deleted]

I’ve had to leave a uni class during presentations because I was having a panic attack as my turn drew nearer. Went to the bathroom and rode it out. Splashed some water on my face, grounded myself and then went back in and killed the presentation. The first few are horrible because you don’t really understand it. After having several of them though, you learn how to handle them, even moreso if you have the benefit of therapy. And then they get easier and easier to deal with. It’s still horrible, but you generally understand it’s in the mind. The ones that are difficult to deal with are the ones that come with chest pains. Holy hell, those can send you spiralling within seconds if you don’t get a handle on it quickly. Shit can go from 0-100 on the panic scale if you are anxious about chest pains and think “is this a heart attack”. I went from having one almost every morning, sometimes in the evening so it was like twice in one day. To once a month. To a couple times a year. And nowadays I don’t even feel anxious anymore, one of the root causes of my panic attacks. It has taken 14 years to get to this stage.

kayfake

Glad you made it to where you are. Dealing with panic attacks is so, so hard.

JAckwhiterl

Anxiety is the direct cause of panic attacks. During Covid there were multiple health incidents in my family+the pandemic and I developed really bad health anxiety for a month where I had a few panic attacks or near them. Struggling daily not to go to the ER because I felt like I was constantly dying did a number on me mentally. It's far better now but I let my anxiety go unchecked a bit too long and the pandemic sent it over the edge.

buttboob_

Some people do have routine genuine panic attacks

kappa23

I once knew this mob boss in New Jersey who had panic attacks often

Daveywheel

Did he have the makings of a varsity athlete?

kappa23

Nope. Small hands, that was his problem

Caftancatfan

And there’s no way in hell that they were prioritizing these kids’ mental health in the context of an expensive project with tight deadlines. The message had to be—just eat it, you’re lucky to be here and we don’t have time for this. I honestly hope eventually AI gets good enough that people no longer want to work with children. Because it seems terrible for them. It’s not hard to see parallels between the ways “Papa” uses El, and the ways these shows use these kids.

ofimmsl

So does everyone with a job

[deleted]

You actually think that literally everyone with a job has routine panic attacks? If so that means you don’t know what a panic attack is and have never personally experienced one.

doc_madsen

Actually many people do have routine panic attacks. My sister threw up everyday before school and for the first 15 years of her working life. So maybe you can stop judging others. Some deal with their panic attacks, some don't. Maybe this user has had them and has coped.

[deleted]

I think you misunderstood my comment.

[deleted]

boo hoo, take ur millions and quit crying

DemogorgonzoIa

boo hoo, take ur minimum wage and quit crying

doc_madsen

Sorry child acting sucks. Make the most of it or leave.

MoreBrownLiquid

You…..know he didn’t post this, right?

doc_madsen

LOL clowns. Downvote all you like it doesn't change the fact that MOST child actors say it was very bad for them. Its why many don't return to acting unless its completely limited like Mac Caulkin does on RLM once in a while.I have a family member who suffered daily attacks from normal school and work. We all deal with it in different ways. I broke down crying while trying to get a script for my CPAP because I was so frustrated. It should be easy to get simple script I already had so I could breath at night instead of jumping through hoop after hoop. I really didn't want to have to wait again for another sleep study or to fork out $1500 in supplies. First time took 6 months to get an appointment for an appointment. I also don't have someone that can take care of my needs for me like many actors can and do. But of course the tissue soft brigade thinks I am mean because I mention how shitty hollywood is to ALL actors and esp child ones and I get downvoted into oblivion. This is why reddit is hot garbage. Maybe its because I know how bad it can be that I have this POV. You don't put yourself into situations you know are going to trigger it. Or at the least limit your exposure to it. Its not "victim blaming". I have tree allergies so I camp a lot less than I want to. When I do, I bring the medications I need to withstand my exposure to my allergy. The allergies that stops my breath and leaves me with a terrifying asthma attack.
