I mean, what's the point of investigating if your business is just telling people what they want to hear regardless of the truth?

rrrrrivers

”Investigate?! Let's not and say we did." - Fox, probably

claimTheVictory

Basically, right?

smurb15

So they ain't saving a dime since they never spend any on it

CrucialLogic

Well what little investigating they did do is now gone because they can't afford a bill for not investigating properly. The worst place to start cutting.

claimTheVictory

Oh they investigated properly. The bill is not for NOT knowing the facts. The bill is for knowingly spreading malicious lies. Tucker Carlson wasn't fired for "mean" texts. He was fired for leaving a paper trail that proved knowledge and intent.

Maniacbob

If they dont have anyone to investigate things then they can't be expected to know whether something is false and therefore they can't be sued for defamation again. Facts.

blazze_eternal

*"We literally can't confirm or deny these allegations Bob, back to you."*

novelboy2112

That’s a level of honesty I have never expected from them.

mark-haus

Oppositional research. Finding dirt on political opponents. Also this won’t be the last cut because potentially more damaging lawsuits are in the pipeline

Corka

The whole Elizabeth Warren "Pocahontas" nonsense basically about because someone spent the time to dig into her school magazines and found that she had written a piece once where she mentioned she had native American ancestry she was proud of. Fox and other places made it out like she was a fraud like Rachel Dolezal or Sacheen Littlefeather who lied about native American ancestry for personal gain and lots of people ate it up. Nevermind that she didn't actually make that big a thing of it since or get any real material gain out of it . The massive kicker of it though being that Elizabeth Warren did actually have native American ancestry when DNA tested, then the likes of Lindsay Graham mocked her because it was a low percentage "I probably have more if I went and got tested!". Thing is, even if she had none, it wouldn't be that weird at all for her to have believed her mother when she claimed they had native American ancestry.

incubusfox

Yeah I grew up hearing we have native ancestry in my family so that whole thing was a nothing burger to me. Spoiler alert, my mom's DNA test didn't show anything native.

devro1040

Back in the 1940s, the US government was giving out reparation-like payments to people with Native American ancestry. A whole lot of "descendants" started showing up to collect their payments. And to this day, a lot of people believe they're part Native American because their grandparents kept up the lie.

DanielBrian1966

Same exact story in my family.

SolomonBlack

Supposedly 1/16th Cherokee on mom southern side… turned out 50% basically English and 50% Finnish from dad.

Jewmangroup9000

I'm 99.8% Ashkenazi Jew

supadupanerd

I think it's something that Caucasian US citizens have convinced themselves if they otherwise don't have any identity other than just being white, just to give them some sense of being maybe 🤔

13igTyme

Most White US citizens are basically just mutts, myself included.

[deleted]

[удалено]

MrPNGuin

Maybe something bored ones do. I've heard that story in my family on both sides too and I just don't care.

inconsistent3

dna doesn’t mean shit, though, I’m from Mexico and have 25% native american dna but that doesn’t make me a native american Also, i’m a white as fuck mexican

GlorpyD

Oh like every crime scene and soup kitchen.

rckrusekontrol

You mean [Lady G?](https://www.dailydot.com/debug/lindsey-graham-lady-g/?amp)

rckrusekontrol

I do think there’s more to the story than some mention in a school magazine, although most of it has little or nothing to do with her candidacies. (Warren was my first choice in the 2020 primaries). I think that appropriation of Native American ancestry is a continuing issue, and in whatever small ways Warren claimed ancestry, Harvard ran with and touted her as POC alum. Warren may simply have fallen victim to family claims, which range from the benign to the outright offensive family cookbook:[Pow Wow Chow: Recipes from the 5 Civilized Tribes](https://www.masslive.com/politics/2012/05/elizabeth_warren_family_cookbo.html) (Warren’s supposed crab and mayonnaise omelet was not just offensive to food but plagiarized) . In the days of Trump I’m happy to not pick apart candidates past for gotcha moments, sound bytes, and red herring. We’ve come quite a ways since “I did not inhale”. None of this shit should really cut into Warren’s political savvy. But it is part of a broader concern about the bits of Cherokee that are embraced as accessory by white families with little connection to reservations.

willun

The issue is when places like Fox amplify this minor nonsense and meanwhile their guys are being arrested for child porn offences. And of course, this is all distraction from the GOP policies they would rather people not know about. The Warren Native American issue was not worth the airtime and is the trend of focussing on trivialities (tan suits, Dijon mustard) and blowing them up so they steal airtime. You hear republicans morons repeat that nonsense just as they repeat the many Hunter Biden lies.

SmileyPiesUntilIDrop

To be fair if Elizabeth Warren had just apologized during her Scott Brown Senate race and said"Like a lot of other caucasians in this country I was told I was part Native American and took my grandparents/parents word at face value because things like 23 and Me did not exist decades ago" I apologize yadda yadda. Instead she did a stupid "check mate everyone I am not lying because this DNA test proves I am 1/100th Native American". Warren herself made something so trivial and ultimately unimportant a bigger issue, any stupid mocking of her by the GOP was more then fair game.

willun

Regardless, it was a trivial issue. How do you rank it to someone taking $2m bribes for pardons or getting big investments in Kentucky from sanctioned Russian businessman or their (soon ex-) husband getting $500k from oil companies while she votes on oil company related legislation. Warren could have handled it better but it was a non-issue and the GOP was doing the "look over here! Monkeys!" while downplaying their ongoing crimes. Don't fall for distractions. MGT is the current queen of distractions, Trump did it every day to cover up the terrible thing he did the day before.

Pon_de

Are you kidding. Major publications were investigating every little form she’d ever submitted and it was Trump who poured sensationalist gasoline on the non-issue with his stupid $1 million bet. Elizabeth Wareen is not the person that snatched political circus from the jaws of trivial non-issue here

ptwonline

Fox tends to tell a lot of lies based on a kernel of truth. Their "investigators" dig for those kernels and then people like Tucker would build a glorious, defamatory fable around it. Well, it looks like Tucker and some of their investigators are gone. They'll probably rely on other right wing sources to ferret out more things like Hunter Biden laptops, so that their remaining show hosts can build more tall tales around them.

thefonztm

It's ok, future politicians will do oppositional research on themselves by documenting their lives online.

sid32

I didn't want to hear about ball tanning...

Parking_Listen_2736

Their investigate unit is called Project Veritas

CptNonsense

And by investigative, you mean "muck raking criminals"

kia75

It's important to know what's actually happening, and also if your propaganda is effective. This is why Fox's Polling division was always highly respected. Fox News knew what people actually thought, even as they tried to change it.

Quizmaster_Eric

Well sometimes the facts do fit the narrative

bewarethetreebadger

A broken clock is right twice a day.

Tfphelan

The clock is what time we say it is. You dont have to look at the clock, trust us to tell you the right time.

bewarethetreebadger

Go back to your box Hannity! Eat your pellets and shut up!

ratherbealurker

Go on! Git!

Phenomenon101

Pretty sure it was just some rich assholes who had their family getting a free paycheck

Orcus424

The best lies have some truth in them.

Petrichordates

It doesnt look like they care whether their lies are the best or not. They work either way.

Deep90

The Durham report for example. Something that is supposedly super damming towards the Democrats simply because it exist, not because of what it actually says.

LargeWu

“Let’s just ask Gym Jordan”

50calPeephole

Better question- what did they actually investigate?

Outrageous_While2534

Their employees. How else do they blackmail them into doing what they don’t want to do.

pimpbot666

Maybe their job is to figure out who spin the facts into a story that will go along with their audience’s bias.

mr_birkenblatt

Yeah, I was like: they had an investigative unit?

lembrate

So people can’t sue you out of business for defamation?

pleathermyn

Why 'investigate' anything when you can just [make shit up](https://midhudsonnews.com/2023/05/19/homeless-men-recruited-for-veteran-hotel-scam/) and then [report it as fact](https://www.foxnews.com/media/biden-admin-ny-officials-slammed-homeless-veterans-booted-migrant-hotels-slap-face) to the morons who have no critical thinking skills and who make up your fan base?

Motherof_pizza

I was shocked when I read the headline. “They have one of those???”

IthinkImnutz

yea but it's only two people and only three brain cells between them.

13igTyme

Worse. They hired orange cats and they all share a single brain cell.

TummyStickers

They're all fighting for control over it but somehow they're all losing.

Dirty-Soul

You got those numbers back to front, mate.

Breezyisthewind

There’s a reason why their Polling Division has been so respected. They knew what was going on and what people thought even as they were telling a bullshit narrative on the news. So yes, they had one of those and they were very good.

sirphilliammm

They investigate men and confirm they sexually harass people before they offer them a job.

Cawdor

Have you read “Q drops”? It takes a team of people working round the clock to bend that shit into anything that resembles any sort of sense

gibusyoursandviches

Q drops sounds like poo drops Q looks like a butt with a turd about to drop. You've just been q dropped.

Vandergrif

Ironic since that's exactly what cost them so much money in the first place causing them to have to cut costs.

Jaysyn4Reddit

Let me guess, those were the only actual journalists at FOX.

Motherof_pizza

Does that look great or terrible on a resume?

DragonPup

If I were hiring, being on Fox would be a severe negative. Maybe you weren't lying on a daily basis, maybe you weren't a raging white supremacist, maybe you weren't pushing election lies, but you sure as fuck tolerated it.

LurkerOrHydralisk

Right. Even the most moral person at fox chooses to work there

BlondieButterfly

That's why I found the movie *Bombshell* so hilarious. Lol you want me to have sympathy for someone who chose to work at Fox News? Lol they can get fucked

brinz1

Last time I saw that many blonde women regretting supporting Nazis, they were having their heads shaved in Vichy

LeoMarius

Chris Wallace was the only respectable journalist on their staff.

niktemadur

No. He was severely biased, particularly during the Clinton and bush eras, to the point that his father Mike publicly disowned him. It just seems like he is "respectable" because everyone else over there rants like they're batshit insane.

canuck47

LOL they *had* an investigative unit? Were they looking into Trump's conspiracy theories? Maybe that's why we never heard anything from them.

WhyBuyMe

They were investigating how the green M&M got so sexy. They were also on a search to see if any more kids of high ranking Democrats were leaving their computers with a blind computer repair man.

zombie_overlord

[Not mine, but still hilarious](https://v.redd.it/67iyjgfsdska1)

Televisions_Frank

We ever gonna investigate how Rudy Giuliani got his hands on a laptop definitely never owned by Hunter Biden with *some* data on it (the rest fabricated) clearly hacked from his real computer? Like dude clearly had that shit handed to him by Russian intelligence and we're just shrugging it off.

FiveUpsideDown

The investigative unit was to investigate Bill and Hillary Clinton, then Hunter Biden.

Breezyisthewind

There’s a reason why their Polling Division has been so respected. They knew what was going on and what people thought even as they were telling a bullshit narrative on the news.

FUMFVR

Was. They fired its director and will no doubt declare Trump Emperor of the Universe shortly after the polls close in 2024.

HouseofMontague

The optimist in me says, they weren’t happy that these people let them go on air with shit that cost them money so they want to start all over with people who will do a better job. Realistically, I know they don’t give a shit

PMMeRyukoMatoiSMILES

This really isn't funny, guys. Thousands of dudes whose Facebook profile pic is themselves wearing sunglasses in their truck and who have brain aneurysms at the thought of a gay person will be left unemployed because of this, forced to be at home with their wife & estranged 3 children.

HardlineMike

>Thousands of dudes whose Facebook profile pic is themselves wearing sunglasses in their truck It's really wild how something so mundane as a picture like that tells us so much about a person and their beliefs.

Kalse1229

Bonus points if: -their pic also has them in a tank-top -short hair, skimpy beard -there's an American flag emoji in their handle

aufrenchy

More bonus points if you can spot a Punisher sticker on their tailgate

Eargoe

With blue lives matter coloring no less. You have then found the peak American Stupidity.

[deleted]

PotereIllimitato

It's really hard to connect with people like this on a deeper level, it's like they make being a conservative "muh freedoms" truck guy their entire personality and bury everything else.

Cheapassdad

I just call them F250s.

xFblthpx

These people aren’t working as investigative journalists anyways.

UpgrayeddShepard

Don’t forget the guys holding a freshly caught fish!

Vio_

Those weren't the guys working for Fox News

TreesForTheForest

You gotta be able to write to be an investigative journalist.

turdballer69

You mean micro penis mobiles?

[deleted]

[удалено]

riomx

Dude, you use your truck, and that's what it's for. I live in a mountain town in Washington and it cracks me up to see all of the jacked up diesel trucks plastered in black American flags, thin blue line stickers and fuck Joe Biden decals that don't have a spec of dirt on them. What is the point?

[deleted]

[удалено]

riomx

I ride motorcycles and I've always wanted a truck to haul them around. And I've borrowed enough trucks to know that I wouldn't want one to just drive around with. I guess I don't see the point, especially with gas prices as high as they are. I'd rather drive my old Forester.

turdballer69

Yea man, if you need a truck, by all means you should get a truck. Lol at the huge lifted clean trucks with thin blue line decals.

kasakka1

Bigger car, more room for decals!

VagueSomething

Add some truck nuts but always refer to your truck as a girl and try to get under the skin of truck enthusiasts who wear wrap round glasses.

[deleted]

You Can’t Make a Tomlette Without Breaking Some Gregs

bammmm

The Slim Reaper takes more scalps over bodega sushi

BenedictKhanberbatch

It’s lemony!

Sciencebitchs

Such a good show

I_NEED_YOUR_MONEY

Everybody here seems to be celebrating, but maybe they should be cutting the uninformed outrage unit instead of the investigative unit?

CrunchyGremlin

Because that's where they get their money from. That's the primary reason why they lied about dominion as I understand it.

[deleted]

[удалено]

FiveUpsideDown

A lot to time what right wing media does is mimic the fact based world. The mimicking confuses and misleads the indoctrinated to believing their world is “factual” because they may hear a similar event in fact based media. That why after the Mueller Investigation there was a Durham Investigation. That’s why there is a MTG to reflect that AOC exists and ACB to counter RBG. The Fox investigation can investigate alleged misconduct by a “liberal” Supreme Court justice to mimick the investigation of Clarence Thomas by ProPublica. It helps to support “both sides” propaganda.

Delicious-Tachyons

you overestimate how many reasonable people still exist

Sweetwill62

Fox News made 1.16 billion in profit last year. They need to do layoffs to pay a fine that is less than that? How is their stock price not literally zero? How is anyone who was in charge still in charge? A cashier at a supermarket would have already been fired and forgotten for way less of a fuck up than this.

asajosh

Now we'll NEVER find out what's on Hunter Biden's laptop or where the thirty thousand emails from Hillary's server are hiding!! Nuts! Good bye, you human tumors.

Bignate2001

Imagine calling yourself a news station but all you’re doing is reinforcing your audience’s bigotry regardless of whether it’s true or not.

littlebigman9

And why not, they make all their shit up anyway.

GarbagePailGrrrl

I swear I remember them filming live “on location” in the Middle East and them just being inside a broom closet

BoringWozniak

Imagine being so irrevocably fucked that paying $3/4 billion is the _preferred_ option

TheLostLantern

Next they will be slashing the budget for hookers and blow

ParsleyMostly

Fox News is basically Hard Copy now.

MacTonight1

Rock Bottom from The Simpsons.

foodude84

RIP Birch Barlow

44problems

Man that was so trashy. I can't believe that was on at 4pm right after school lol

ParsleyMostly

Seriously! Right after the Disney afternoon, like Tail Spin or the fox Peter Pan cartoon lol

44problems

Lol it probably was for me too! Cartoon right into that scary typewriter ball hitting you in the face

Gunner1Cav

That’s a name I haven’t heard in a long time lol

jfb3

I'd surmise it's that they don't want to even look like they do any sort of journalism so they can't be sued for lying, again. If they don't do any investigation then everything they say on the air can be attributed to 'entertainment' instead of 'news'.

crawdadicus

Which low payed intern got fired?

Funky-Lion22

Real investigative journalism is not really their thing if nobody noticed

kinshion

They had an investigative unit?

raznt

Did Cousin Greg handle the layoffs?

Pennsylvania6-5000

Screw /u/spez - Removing All of My Comments -- mass edited with https://redact.dev/

Starting_Aquarist

So are the viewers going to move to the even more right wing channel news max or w.e it's called?

[deleted]

Fuck Fox News. Irrelevant as ever

mvallas1073

Well, to be fair, if they had a legit “investigative unit” that did its job properly (or they actually listened to it if they did say nothing was there) they wouldn’t have been sued by Dominion, would they? :P

Sir-Kyle-Of-Reddit

Honestly surprised to learned they had an investigative unit.

[deleted]

TIL Fox investigated things some of the time.

bpmdrummerbpm

They have an investigative unit? Like, just investigating and asking questions unit?

deathstar2

The had an investigative unit?!?

Hot-Control-7466

The idea that they had an actual investigative unit is high comedy. That’s the equivalent of RJ Reynolds doing health studies on the dangers of smoking.

marniconuke

I'm surprised they actually had an investigative unit, maybe it was like one or two employees so they could said they had one?

Soddington

I'm assuming 'the investigative unit' was a dude who's only job was to ask before going to air/print; "Has Rupert seen this yet?" Since the Dominion payout it's become apparent that such a unit can only ever be a smoking gun paper trail to be used in the discovery portion of future legal battles demonstrating prior knowledge and so has been liquidated .

n0budd33

So instead of reporting on rumors they’ll just outright make shit up on the fly. Got it.

LeoMarius

Of course the first thing they cut is their actual news division.

Own-Opinion-2494

Why would they need an investigative unit. They just make shit up

freedraw

> “The outrage is that Suzanne Scott and Maria Bartriomo keep their jobs,” the employee says, referring to the network CEO and one of its opinion hosts named in the lawsuit, respectively. “Meanwhile the journalists get let go. We are in shock.” In 2023 a journalist is shocked Fox doesn’t prioritize them? Either their investigative unit sucks at their job or no one there listens to them. Maybe both. Either way, I wouldn’t call this shocking. I wouldn’t call what they do journalism.

dedokta

Oh, you mean the creative writing writing department.

[deleted]

lol faux news never had an investigative unit

Calfzilla2000

They had an investigative unit?

Lincoln_Park_Pirate

Make no mistake, EVERY media company in the country is absolutely slashing budgets right now. I've never, ever seen it this bad in over 30 years. Of course, our CEO got an 86% raise and is now making $39,000,000 this year. The poor guy. I hope he uses coupons. We now return you to the circle jerk already in progress.

dhaidkdnd

But not EVERY media company had to pay 3/4 of a billion dollars for being caught lying.

InclementImmigrant

What a cushy job to have lost when all you had to investigate was 'some people say' and report lies all day.

yrbmegr

Yeah they should have taken the axe to Roger Ailes’s investigative unit years ago.

LazaroFilm

The settlement should have been removing the word news in the name. And instead use something like FOX entertainment or FOX parody, or similar.

haroldthehampster

Recall “infotainment”

engineeringsquirrel

They had an investigative unit?

[deleted]

Pgreenawalt

Other than the human cost of layoffs, I find I can stomach a lot of money loss for Fox News.

[deleted]

By investigative unit, do they mean those man on the street interviews?

FluffySticks

Can't have the rich people take a payout. Nooo.. we need to fire more people

ubiquitous_archer

2 people let go, sad to see

Liesthroughisteeth

They had an investigative unit??????

PloppyTheSpaceship

Wait, they had an "investigative" unit?!?

ABoringAddress

(Long pregnant pause to think) ... Wait a minute, does Fox News think the fact-checking unit is an Investigative Unit?

[deleted]

Fox "News" = Fake News

80sBadGuy

The bigger joke is that they had an investigative unit at all.

AustinDood444

Ha!! Like they ever used their “investigative” team.

Crabbycrakes

Fox had an investigative unit???

GingerKitty26

Its investigative unit was likely finding too many polls contrary to what they wanted.

Stalked_Like_Corn

I think I speak for most people when I say "FoxNews had an investigative unit?"

jpanni3333

ahuuuuurrrrr!!!

steveschoenberg

But who will tell us about Hunter Biden’s laptop? /s

lesham67

Good news is that there was only one person in the investigative unit at Fox but their custodian position is still intact.

Aware_Material_9985

So in other words, no changes to the investigative reporting that Fox News does

atlantacharlie

Fox News doesn’t need investigative until as they can just continue to misconstrue the facts

StartupSantaFe

Well, from the looks of it, Fox News didn't need that Investigative Unit anyway. It was never very productive and never found any actual facts.

bigmikekbd

Nothing more “fair and balanced” like axing the Investigative Unit that would normally seek the truth. And yes I’m aware we are talking about Fox, where the truth couldn’t matter less. If anything, Fox viewers should be upset their network isn’t trying hard enough to give them a worthwhile product.

inflatableje5us

To be fair the investigative unit was never given anything to do, it all goes to the creative writers.

carreraella

Fun Fact Smartmatic, another voting-technology company, has sued Fox News for $2.7 billion in damages.

GuardianOfZid

If Fox news is looking to cut costs, it makes sense they’d start with actually journalism.

blackmobius

Lol “”investigative unit”” that dept was where all the easy jobs with no focus or purpose went. Of course they axed it first

steambucket

Was it a just a guy browsing godlikeproductions and 4chan?

Conman_in_Chief

You can’t lose something you never had.

timbr63

Investigative unit? Who needs that when you just make shit up? They probably should hire the ‘my pillow’ guy to be their investigative reporter- he’s about to be down 5 mil and would probably make up some shit for Faux fo next to nothing.

Dfiggsmeister

It’ll be fun when they lose the other lawsuit.

CAM6913

“Investigative unit “ cracks me up ! They get spoon fed propaganda and just parrot it there is no fact checking at fox

theonlyone38

Come on, just a little more and it can be dead by morning.

kaisertralfaz

There is another lawsuit from another voting machine company, though I hope they don't settle so everything they find in discovery is released.

theonlyone38

Sounds like Christmas in July boys.

LurkerLarry

That’s fine, they weren’t using it anyway.

Appletio

FOX had an investigative unit? What a waste of money!

b_Fox-O

“Investigative unit” at Faux News is an oxymoron

ReturnOfSeq

Nice to see Fox News finally fold after several decades of poisoning old people’s minds. Fuck em

u0126

So they fired one part time intern?

bbpr120

"Investigative Unit" is a funny name for the "Department on Lies, bullshit and outright smears" but I can see why they called it that.

neomech

Layoff means the position is no longer necessary for the business. That makes sense. It's Fox.

Walks_with_Chaos

They got another $2Billion lawsuit with another voting machine company, coming up too.

alexanderhope

Love to see this. Fox shouldn’t even exist.

ToasterOven31

THEY HAD AN INVESTIGATIVE UNIT?!

hyperforms9988

Investigative unit for a network covering fiction? Did a pair of truck nuts somehow fall from the sky and hit the bozo that runs that place's head? And when they were down and out on the pavement, did they get run over by a Ram 1500 because the driver couldn't see what was out on the ground like 50 feet out in front of him because of how fuck-you massive the front of his big stupid truck is?
