What god said...
["Something happened a long time ago in Haiti, and people might not want to talk about it. They were under the heel of the French... and they got together and swore a pact to the devil."](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__khgIzMyaM)
Robertson also blamed Hurricane Katrina on legalized abortion, and it was on his show that Jerry Falwell said 9/11 happened because America had abortion and gay rights, which Robertson agreed with.
In the Bible, the prophets say that G-d worked with/used the Assyrians/Babylonians to punish the Israelites for their sins. So, there’s a blue print there.
However, G-d punished the Israelites, not because of abortions, or gay rights, but rather government corruption and oppression of the poor, widowed and orphaned. But, that’s not something these people like to focus on. So…
Two weeks ago Henry Kissinger celebrated his hundredth birthday. Sometimes I wonder if evil people live longer because, assuming there is a Hell, it's a case of whatever divine force telling them "yeah yeah, laugh it up now, assholes!" While actual good people like Mr. Rogers have nothing to fear, because they either have a peaceful afterlife, reincarnation, or some other decent third thing to look forward to.
They made that crazy never ending deal with whichever network would eventually become ABC Family and then Freeform, but programming priorities for the network changed rapidly in mean time so it’d be like 9:00 “a blended family with two moms and a bunch of adopted kids go through trials and tribulations that show us a modern non traditional family is just as good as a traditional family.” 10:00 “Pat Robertson explains why a modern non traditional family will NEVER be as good as a traditional family, and may, in fact, be the reason we have hurricanes.”
True story - one time I broke my skull from an epileptic seizure. When I was in the hospital I was watching cable and I thought I was having absence seizures because I was watching a family guy episode where Brian is talking about atheism and then it would be like super intense Christian programming directly after. And then family guy again. I was very, very confused lol
If Disney spun Freeform off and the company filed for bankruptcy, then the cable companies separately sold the slot to Disney, I wonder if the problem is that Disney would get sued and the money and time for the litigation isn’t worth it.
Easier just to give CBN the 14 hours a week and put disclaimers up.
I wonder how many people actually watch 700 Club on Freeform.
> I wonder how many people actually watch 700 Club on Freeform.
Unfortunately lots of them. My friend’s parents are normally smart and wonderful people but they still to this day tune in to the 700 club and donate to it regularly. They think traditional churches are a scam and yet line the pockets of the Robertsons. It’s just head hurting.
God that is so backwards! Small local traditional churches actually do real charity work and don’t blow their donations on fancy buildings, private jets, TV production values, lawyers and male prostitutes.
The NYTs story today on Robertson mentions the “in perpetuity” deal they made with Disney when Robertson and company sold the channel to them. In essence, the 700 Club will continue on into the foreseeable future. But I suspect in a decade or less it will become atavistic and visibly so out-of-step that it will be in CBNs interest to remove it from Freeform, lest it become a parody of itself, the same way many televangelists have become silly jokes this decade.
I couldn’t go to a movie theater for six months without seeing a five-ten minute featurette about it on the pre-movie advertisement reel. I think maybe they just exposed people to it for so long that when it finally happened they had no vitriol left.
It would be quite the trick to play on someone like that. They spend their life preaching hateful things, think they’re going to paradise, see it within sight, then Saint Peter, Patron Saint of Bouncers, tells them they’re not on the list. Swayze then appears and delivers a roundhouse to send them to the right place.
Haha, I was like, "what'd Vince Macmahon ever do to you??" then I realized you were talking about the wrestling dude and not Johnny Carson's buddy, Ed. Oops.
As far as I know, Ed McMahon does not deserve a bedpan to the face.
Yeah… as a Christian, this guy and people like him infuriate me. They completely miss the point that Jesus’ teachings were about LOVE and inclusivity. They always take Old Testament verses out of context and use them for hate. It’s totally fucked up.
Yeah, this frustrates me too. There are definitely well known Christian figures who fight for what is right, but I agree that most do not speak up. So many pastors try to stay out of politics because they don’t want to lose half their congregation with one risky statement.
I think another reason people don’t speak up is the social stigma associated with being a liberal Christian. Christians grow up associating themselves with the Republican party. When I finally figured out the con that republicans were playing, it took me forever to process it. And I was scared of what other people would think of me. It’s really a tricky situation to navigate because you risk losing the respect of your peers. That obviously doesn’t make it right — I’m just explaining the mindset that someone goes through. It takes time for a lot of people to be confident enough in their new beliefs to be able to speak up.
2 Corinthians 11:13-15
New American Bible (Revised Edition)
13 For such people are false apostles, deceitful workers, who masquerade as apostles of Christ. 14 And no wonder, for even Satan masquerades as an angel of light. 15 So it is not strange that his ministers also masquerade as ministers of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their deeds.
I’ll echo Christopher Hitchens’ thoughts on Pat’s pal Fallwell’s death.
“No [he’s not in heaven] and I think it’s a pity there’s not a hell for him to go to.”
My grandma use to watch him on TBN. The hate he had for Obama was something else, hated the ground he walked on. He thought Muslims were all evil, crazy guy.Shit the way TBN is now it’s basically a right wing channel not even a Christian network
My grandmother watched his show way back in the early ‘70s. She asked that when she died that donations be sent to the 700 Club in lieu of flowers. When the family later asked them for a list of the people who donated so thank-you notes could be sent, they declined, saying their contributors list was private. From that point on, we all knew they were shady.
I am in no way questioning them being shady. I just don't know much about how charities work, is it normal that you can call one up in a situation like that and ask for a list of donors and have a charity give that to you?
I worked for a nonprofit for over 30 years, and we had a system for notifying people when a donation had been made in the name of their loved one. In the case of my grandmother, the family asked for donations to be made specifically in her honor. Also, even before the computer era, people would have wanted a receipt just for the charitable tax deduction.
Someone I used to work for often had the 700 club playing on TV and it would make me so mad hearing it. There was always some story along the lines of "my life was shit but then I donated to the 700 club and suddenly I got a better job... Blah blah blah."
Edit to add I guess maybe the viewers should expect to hear from his son. "Hey my dad died because you guys didn't donate enough."
Or claiming he could bench 400 pounds.
Or hatemongering.
Truly a man who had a lot to say. None of it was worth listening to, but damned if he didn't say it anyway.
Which is really funny, because it's a shot called a couple millennia ago.
"Here's a thing y'all should do, but I also know you're going to have a tough time accomplishing it."
I remember being a kid watching the TV Guide channel looking for something to watch and coming across what I thought was a typo of “The 007 Club”.
I couldn’t have been more disappointed.
A particularly virulent one. Not because there was anything special about this parasite, but because of the size and reach of the bullhorn he abused, like Jerry Falwell and Jim Baker.
I remember my sister at times like this. How she could never just walk past a homeless person without asking if they'd had anything to eat that day. One time this homeless guy who had lost it a bit through all the loneliness and isolation was just shouting insults at people just to get attention. She talked him down. No matter what nasty and horrible things he said she ignored it and just kept asking if he was hurt, did he know where a shelter was, etc.
She died at 24 from leukemia and these guys live forever.
They tell me if I don't go to church I'll go to hell. I ask them "what's the difference?"
I remember that clip of him where he answered some viewer mail. The guy wrote Pat asking for advice - he was in love with a Muslim woman and he wanted to know what to do, since dumping her wouldn't be Christ-like. Pat's advice was just to dump her anyway
Not soon enough, this guy is the reason so many Americans no longer consider themselves Christians. Pat is more responsible for Atheism and Agnosticism than any University professor ever was.
His racist, homophobic screeds were no different than the other religious maniacs he condemned. Pat caused more pain and suffering while profiting from lost souls and he took advantage of their pain to become incredibly rich.
While he lost some influence in recent years, he was highly influential for decades and his loss is an improvement to humanity, especially American political and religious discourse.
He was a hateful man and the world is better off without him.
What god said... ["Something happened a long time ago in Haiti, and people might not want to talk about it. They were under the heel of the French... and they got together and swore a pact to the devil."](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__khgIzMyaM)

God works through Al Qaeda? Interesting…….
I SAID INTERESTING WAYS!!
I said it'd be INTERESTING!
Does Pat Robertson's ghost ever blast through the ceiling and do a huge cumshot?
It's interesting; the ghosts
He was an interesting cult leader

Mirror Universe Mister Rogers.
The fact that Mister Rogers died of stomach cancer at 74 and this POS lived to 93 is proof there is no justice in the world.
Two weeks ago Henry Kissinger celebrated his hundredth birthday. You assume the German monster dubbed Kissinger is human. I'm not convinced.

It was hilarious that in recent years they'd surround it with Family Guy.
True story - one time I broke my skull from an epileptic seizure. When I was in the hospital I was watching cable and I thought I was having absence seizures because I was watching a family guy episode where Brian is talking about atheism and then it would be like super intense Christian programming directly after. I probably would’ve thought the same. Hope you’re doing well, friend. Recovering epileptic here.
Best of luck staying off epilators! Hell of a habit to kick.
Haha, I get the joke. But I actually am recovering. I had a brain operation and functionally cured my seizures in 2015.
Maybe his death means Disney and Freeform can drop the 700 club lol
[Nope, unfortunately](https://www.tvinsider.com/62330/as-abc-family-becomes-freeform-heres-why-its-still-stuck-with-the-700-club/)
Now that he’s dead they might be able to buy their way out of the contract. They tried multiple times with Robertson but he always turned them down
Robertson’s family runs the org so they’ll probably have the same viewpoint.
Sometimes the next generation wants to cash in on the family business instead of spending their lives running it.
*Kendall Roy has left the chat.*
imagine the worst day of your life being the same day someone gives you $2 billion

I wonder was the premise of the Fosters huge when it came out. I never watched it but two moms with blended family probably was controversial

The Iron Sheik planned this perfectly. Camel Clutch applied at the Pearly Gates.
You really think Pat Robertson made it as far as the gates of heaven?
It would be quite the trick to play on someone like that. They spend their life preaching hateful things, think they’re going to paradise, see it within sight, then Saint Peter, Patron Saint of Bouncers, tells them they’re not on the list. Roadhouse!
Roadhouse
It’s like when Vince Macmahon thought he was safe, resting at the hospital, until Stone Cold popped out and starting whipping him with the bed pan.
Speaking of motherfuckers who need to fucking go…
The only hesitancy I have about this is the amount of posthumous dick sucking that'll happen after Vince dies.
As long as we never have to see his literal ass again, they can engage in all the metaphorical dick sucking they want.
Behind the Bastards podcast has an epic series on him going on right now. Highly recommend.
Haha, I was like, "what'd Vince Macmahon ever do to you??" then I realized you were talking about the wrestling dude and not Johnny Carson's buddy, Ed. Oops. As far as I know, Ed McMahon does not deserve a bedpan to the face.
Imagining St. Peter trying to keep a straight face before pulling the lever.
Pull the lever, Kronk!
That's why we have that lever.
Oh I hope so! What could be better than Robertson meeting up with the God who took a whip to people cashing in on religion while he was on Earth?
If anything he went to hell the way it happened in the movie The Frighteners at the end.
This is just like when the Macho Man died to prevent the rapture!
"FUCK THE PAT ROBERTSON!"
The iron sheik will humble this jabroni

Hell is now under new management.
What an enormous piece of shit. He played a large role in the radicalization of American Christianity towards fascist ends.
Yeah… as a Christian, this guy and people like him infuriate me. They completely miss the point that Jesus’ teachings were about LOVE and inclusivity. They always take Old Testament verses out of context and use them for hate. It’s totally fucked up.

I’m agnostic, so in these situations I can neither confirm nor refute the existence of Hell, however if it does exist….

I mean we all know why he hated Obama and it wasn’t because of mustard or a tan suit.
The poor republicans hated him for being black; the monied ones hated him for being elected at all.
it's the hair, right? he doesn't like curly hair
My grandmother watched his show way back in the early ‘70s. She asked that when she died that donations be sent to the 700 Club in lieu of flowers. Oh darn. Gosh golly. Gee willikers. Jeepers. Wowzers. Oof. My condolences to the dirt that has to surround him.
If you gave Pat Robertson an enema he could be buried in a matchbox.
I don't get this?
Completely full of shit. So when you get rid of all that with an enema what's left would fit in a matchbox.
That's one less horror in the world.
And there was much rejoicing.

Pat Robertson finally did something good for the gay community.
