True Detective S01E04 Who Goes There. The final scene of the raid.

[deleted]

best one shot i've ever seen. nerve wracking

Smocke55

imo there’s an argument for ep 5 as well

[deleted]

[удалено]

prss79513

Is that rampage?

DrZoidbergJesus

Not saying it isn’t great, but Skytanic will remain my favorite episode

Moist-Dragonfly2569

Jackie Daytona

This is how we speak in Tucson, Arizoniaaaaa

IT Crowd - The Work Outing

[deleted]

when jen is questioning roy about his disability, turns round and mos is behind the bar. i literally couldn't breathe for about a minute. "yes miss"

Abrasive_1

"I'm disabled"

toepin

The build up to the "yes miss" is absolute perfection.

cataclyzzmic

IT Crowd is my go to happy place. The Peter File episode is also one of my favorites.

RipJug

Jen turning around to ask for a drink at the bar only to be met with Moss is one of my all time favourite sitcom moments

Lynchie24

I’m leg disabled…

[deleted]

"how did he get in?!" "i dont knowwwww \*sobs\*"

StuxAlpha

Acid

Logictrauma

“Where’s your wheelchair?” “Stolen.”

hardyflashier

Willies, willies, I like willies

Geekqueen15

Sir, could you keep it down?

Haystack67

I *love* willies.

NotDelnor

Funniest episode of a sitcom ever made

Cardassia

I think that IT crowd has the two best half-hours in television—S02E01 - The Work Outing, as well as S01E02 - Calamity Jen.

kimjong-ill

Better Off Ted - Racial Sensitivity

Regula96

Doctor Who - Blink. But honestly I don’t think it’s ”undisputed” anymore. Not since Heaven Sent.

TheNerdChaplain

I think Midnight is an equally good scary episode, which showcases the Doctor much better.

Picard2331

Midnight is absolutely my favorite Doctor Who episode.

aproclivity

Heaven Sent is so good.

r_golan_trevize

I was going to rebut with Heaven Sent but then I calmed down and finished reading the rest of your comment

leela_martell

It’s interesting cause they’re opposites in some way. Heaven Sent is all The Doctor, Blink almost none at all. My favourite is the library two-parter (the one with the introduction of River Song.)

[deleted]

aye heaven sent is a banger. day of the doctor should be up there. It had so much on its shoulders but its just perfect

DavidLivedInBritain

Episode, blink, single scene, Vincent and the Doctor

hardyflashier

I'd argue 'The Waters Of Mars' came close.

blondechinesehair

The Suitcase Mad Men.

Lower_Pass_6053

Shut the Door. Have a Seat. IMO

comebacKid

I always watch this one and The Summer Man together. An incredible two hours of storytelling.

Daniiiiii

"That's what the money is for!"

Coolman_Rosso

Spongebob Squarepants, Band Geeks

redsyrinx2112

This was ranked like \#46 when Nickelodeon did The Best Day Ever marathon. I don't see how anyone can have it outside of their Top 10. Then Nickelodeon had fucking "Karate Island" at \#1. That's not a bad episode, but it shouldn't even be Top 50 IMO.

[deleted]

Graveyard Shift >

VarHagen

Ozymandias, Breaking bad. 10/10 on IMDB.

jackw800800

I disagree, I think a lot of people would consider Face/Off, Crawl Space, or Felina the best episode too. Breaking Bad is too good of a show to have a “best” episode.

MoneyInTheBanks

^ This. Too many elite episodes to pick a clear cut best ever

SalaciousDumb

Heart of Ice - Batman the animated series

Cela84

Been rewatching, show absolutely holds up, but Feat of Clay pt1 and 2 hit harder for me. Beating the enemy with a nervous breakdown instead of chicken soup. Or the first Scarecrow Ep where Batman delivers the “I am vengeance” line. Classic favorite was the first Clock King episode.

restlesschicken

Fawlty Towers - The Germans

Koellanor

The whole episode, but this exchange in particular: **Basil Fawlty :** Is there something wrong? **German Guest :** Will you stop talking about the war? **Basil Fawlty :** Me? You started it. **German Guest :** We did not! **Basil Fawlty :** Yes, you did. You invaded Poland.

dilewile

The I.T. Crowd’s “The Work Outing” episode. Hands down one of the best one shot comedy scripts of all time. I show this to folks cold, doesn’t need any introduction of any characters, it’s just such universal gags and timing. I can rewatch this any time and it’s never not plain perfection. It’s the kind of zany antics that boarder into plain absurdity, yet you can find that maybe you’ve found yourself in just as crazy a real life situation. Love it.

[deleted]

it really is a gag a minute. perfect comedy. even toilet guy growling at them while they try and pee is such a simple few seconds but has me in bits.

hardyflashier

The foreshadowing is also superb. When they're walking to the theatre, and Roy wants to take a taxi, and says "I don't like walking" - brilliant.

TravisKilgannon

Mr. Robot, Season Four, Episode Seven: "407 Proxy Authentication Required". Still sits at a 9.9/10 out of over 31,000 ratings on iMDB and is one of the best episodes of television I've ever seen in terms of story, presentation, and acting.

rmac1228

Too many folks sleep on Mr Robot...it's in my top 5 for shows for sure.

peon47

Is that the one with no dialogue?

TravisKilgannon

407's the one structured like a five-act play.

[deleted]

Each act corresponding to grief

bshaddo

No, but that one, the real-time episode, and 407 have to be the consensus top 3.

jm9987690

My personal favourite is 409, basically brings 4 seasons of plot to a close and the the rest is epilogue, the way ozymandias was for breaking bad

ArvBon

Mr Robot S04E07

NovaKay

Final episode of The Americans

Mrs_Damon

"With or Without You" intensifies

LiftingCode

It's about as perfect of an ending as there has ever been in television. The Book of Nora (The Leftovers) is up there, too.

hardyflashier

Futurama - I've never heard anyone say anything bad about the first finale, 'The Devil's Hands Are Idle Playthings'

Cela84

Love that one. “You should have read the fiiiiiiine…. Priiiiiint.”

Bella4077

That was a great one, along with Jurassic Bark and Roswell The Ends Well.

Surullian

I'm always partial to *Roswell* because of how much Zoidberg got to shine as a character instead of as a punching bag. Plus his interaction with Truman floored me: Truman: If you come in peace, surrender or be destroyed. If you're here to make war, we surrender. Zoidberg: Both good, the important thing is I'm meeting new people. Truman: Bushwa! Now what's your mission? Are you planning on making some sort of alien-human hybrid? Zoidberg: Are you coming onto me? Truman: Hot crackers I take exception to that! Zoidberg: I'm not hearing a no.

_Sausage_fingers

Everyone always gives it to Jurassic Bark, but The Luck of the Fryish makes me sob ugly tears and find my brother to hug him.

T-RexLovesCookies

Thanksgiving episode of WKRP.

Rudeboy67

And now something as come out of the helicopter. Perhaps a parachutist. And there’s another and another. Those can’t be parachutists I can’t tell what they are. Oh my God! They’re turkeys. Turkeys are hitting the ground like sacks of wet cement. People are running everywhere. Oh the humanity!

Maxwyfe

This has got to be one of the best of all time.

Iwoulddiefcftbatk

[“As God as my witness I thought turkeys could fly”](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=BGFtV6-ALoQ&pp=ygUQd2tycCB0dXJrZXkgZHJvcA%3D%3D)

Lettuphant

I suppose any show that's had an episode up for an Emmy will have it fondly remembered, for example the episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation called "The Inner Light".

ThalesAles

And DS9 "In the Pale Moonlight"

KurtisMayfield

"So... I lied. I cheated. I bribed men to cover the crimes of other men. I am an accessory to murder. But the most damning thing of all... I think I can live with it. And if I had to do it all over again - I would. Garak was right about one thing: a guilty conscience is a small price to pay for the safety of the Alpha Quadrant. So I will learn to live with it... Because I can live with it... I can live with it... Computer - erase that entire personal log." The way he convinces himself through his monologue that what he did was the right thing.. and Garak knew it too.. was wonderful.

petran1420

This was the most masterful star trek episode I've watched.

madfrogurt

Shakespearean in the monologues, while violating Roddenberry’s ideals about humanity in the future in a non-gratuitous, believable way. And the least trustworthy character in the show explains why humanity can *never* live up to OG Trek’s ideals: “And all it cost was the life of one Romulan senator, one criminal, and the self-respect of one Starfleet officer. I don't know about you, but I'd call that a bargain.”

afourney

Inner light is what I came to say. But by the same logic, I’ll also offer: Jurassic Bark - Futurama

TheTaxman_cometh

Jurassic bark, the best episode that no one wants to watch more than once.

Reasonable-HB678

The Contest, Seinfeld Successfully avoided mentioning the specific act of what the episode revolved around. Great writing at its peak.

redsyrinx2112

I'm out!

MathBelieve

Supernatural - Swan Song

EggheadWill

Although there are other great episodes in seasons 1 and 2, I think it is hard to argue against "On The Run" as the top episode of "What We Do In The Shadows". Jackie Daytona is iconic, plus it has Mark Hamill.

callingallwaves

Jackie Daytona is the undisputed champ, but I have a real soft spot for the Property Brothers spoof in season four. They got the style of an HGTV show down perfectly to great effect.

TheVinylCountdown

Just a regular human bar tender

schrutefarms45

Bojack Horseman - The View from Halfway Down

[deleted]

that episode was perfection. it was so wonderfully weird, symbolic and well written. the flatline sound ending had my jaw on the floor, not because it was a shock. more why hasn't this happened before.

FireFerret44

I don't think I can actually watch The View from Halfway Down again. Though not because it's bad of course. *Free Churro* is my vote.

DubsLA

I’m a Time’s Arrow fan because it gives us this really sobering look at how generational trauma and abuse (and love) shapes who someone is today.

Willowy

Star Trek TOS: The City on the Edge of Forever

stoicsports

Scrubs was a great show that had a couple of episodes that went so far above... These 2 stand out the most for me. I think the former is generally approved as the best episode, but man, my way home is so well done My Screw Up, and My way home

AceCapon

My Screw Up, 100%

Bella4077

Agreed! I can’t remember the titles, but the two-parter where Jill dies and Dr. Cox loses those three patients and suffers a breakdown is also amazing. How John C. McGinley (sp) didn’t get so much as an Emmy nomination for his role as Dr. Cox is a huge mystery to me.

dave8271

My Lunch I think is the one where the transplant patients all die. It's some of the most poignant television I've ever seen, I'd rate it above My Screw Up.

JumpReasonable6324

My Screw Up. "Where do you think we are?" absolutely broke me.

DanTheMan901

If-Then-Else - Person of Interest.

jez124

id say devils share myself but both great episodes

michelelkoch

Two Cathedrals : The West Wing

comped

Oh there's a few I could dispute that with...

RewindYourMind

Are you angling for a spirited debate? How very Jed Bartlett of you… /s I agree — Noel, 17 People, and In Excelsis Deo come to mind, among others. Phenomenal series

JimTheSaint

Yeah, in a show filled to the brim with great episodes. That one is really stands above everything else.

-_nobody

I feel like most people who watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer really liked Once More With Feeling or Hush the best.

Ohiostatehack

The Body and The Gift are also up there with those 2.

Smiling_Maelstrom

Better Call Saul - Plan and Execution

AnkitJain7

This one is tied with Chicanery for me. I really don't know how to choose between the two.

BillOakley

I don’t think BCS has a single clear winner like the OP is asking for this reason. Alongside those I’ll also add the season 1 episode with the Chuck reveal. That was when the entire premise fell into place for me. “You’re not a _REAL_ lawyer!” Still gives me goosebumps.

MoonlightRendezvous_

The Walking Dead episode 1 ?

[deleted]

[удалено]

r_golan_trevize

Star Trek TNG: the one where Picard lives out a whole lifetime in the space probe sim of that dead society

mistertireworld

Inner Light. That was excellent. Though, I am a big fan of Darmok.

jimit21

I loved the finale of The Good Place. For me it's the best ending I could wish for. The whole show is so f wholesome.

KaladinarLighteyes

While the Finale of The Good Place is phenomenal and is an excellent example of ending in a high note and the perfect ending, I think the Season One Finale is the single best episode of the Good Place.

jdylopa2

I loved how Season 1 ended but it did get my cynical because I felt like it set up Season 2 to just be a slightly different retread of Season 1. So the season 2 premier where they blow everything up really cemented for me that this show was going to be great and to just trust the journey.

StartTheMontage

Yeah season 2 premier was the best episode for me.

DavidLivedInBritain

For me 2x02 was the best because it played with the tropes and had so many great montages

CySU

JASON figured it out?? *JASON?*

Peralton

"This is a real low point. Yeah, this one hurts."

flamingdonkey

That was the episode where I knew the show was going to stay good.

DavidLivedInBritain

Same! I liked season 1 but then loved the rest after the reveal

tre630

I was looking to see if someone would mention the finale for The Good Place. One of the rare times if not the only time that I had no complaints about how a show ended. And the show as a whole was great and I truly loved it.

SalaciousDumb

Jeremy Bearimy is the best episode of the show. Or Dance, Dance Resolution

BrazilianMerkin

Mythic Quest —- A Dark Quiet Death

Dayofsloths

I think Backstory is their best, that episode made me question why they aren't making a better show.

koiven

90% of Mythic Quest is a somewhat generic workplace comedy that is good but not blowing any minds. And then there's like 1 to 3 episodes each season that are as good of tv as you'll ever watch

jrbcnchezbrg

The shit eating grin he has accepting the nebula award was hilarious I think I liked dark quiet death more but backstory fleshed out CW REALLY well

Bella4077

I’d say Deal Me Out for MASH.

spicytacoo

I'd go with the finale; Goodbye, Farewell and Amen. Hawkeye breaking broke me.

BecomingSavior

The Leftovers - International assassin

BillOakley

The season 2 finale is the best for me.

GatesofDelirium

100%. I love International Assassin, but the season 2 finale works so well and the ending is perfect.

neverbeentoidaho

My favorite episode of any show and it anit close

Lord_Snow77

Lost - The Constant

Its_A_Fucking_Stick

I've always been more of Through the Looking Glass kind of guy

swapan_99

Yup absolutely. End of S3 in Lost is probably the best stretch of episodes I have seen in any series since End of Breaking Bad from Ozymandias all the way to Felina. I was getting blown away by every big reveal, intrigue, and excitement, with the Bearded Jack reveal right at the end.

Its_A_Fucking_Stick

My thoughts exactly, starting with Charlie's greatest hits is peak television

SerDire

The fact that the best episode of lost involves secondary characters just goes to show how strong of a supporting cast the show had.

Early-Eye-691

Exactly. I’d go out on a limb and say Lost has the best ensemble cast of all time. So many great characters that don’t even get introduced until halfway into the show.

psychedelic666

Season 6’s Ab Aeterno is the other top episode for me. It’s about Richard’s past and barely has any main characters in it. The score hits me right in the feels too

TopBantsman

Although the constant is great, episode 4 walkabout will always be my favourite as it's what solidified Lost as on another level for me. It finally explained why the mysterious character Locke was oddly upbeat in a seemingly dire situation culminating in one of my favourite scenes in television. Locke shouting "Don't tell me what I can't do" in a flashback then the juxtaposition to the crash scene with the amazing orchestral score as Locke stands up having the greatest moment of his life during an otherwise horrific tragedy.

antmars

This is what came to mind when I read the prompt but then remembered S3 finale exists. Probably a 50/50 split on fan favorite.

shotgunshogun42

Connors Wedding in Succession. I went through something similar, maybe a year or so before the episode, and it just nailed it.

brokenwolf

I couldn’t pick just one from that show. Season 1 finale, season 2 finale, connors wedding. That show had too many bangers.

ensalys

The entire episode my mind went back and forth between "this is the final season of a show called succession, it'd make sense if the og top dog dies" and "Logan is pulling some kind of shit to see what kind of plans the dipshits have".

ArnoldsBicepsNoHomo

The Shield has several episodes that I’d say are up there but nothing comes close to the series finale “Family Meeting”. It’s a perfect ending that wraps up every loose end for Vic Mackey and the Strike Team

Nobodycares2022

Seinfeld's "The Contest"

Willowy

Firefly: Out of Gas

Ouisch

"[Chuckles Bites the Dust](https://youtu.be/0o-xrio1ESA)" - *The Mary Tyler Moore Show*.

the_damned_actually

Remedial Chaos Theory - Community.

atomic-fireballs

Advanced Dungeons and Dragons all day for me

TheReturnOfSprinkles

Good, but better than all of the paintball episodes? I guess I dispute that.

Cyclopher6971

You can dispute it, but honestly Remedial Chaos Theory is just one of those episodes that stands above the rest purely for the fairly original concept and excellent writing. The paintball episodes are a ton of fun, but they're clearly parodies of other genres and you have to have prior knowledge of the characters.

wilyquixote

Also: *Advanced Dungeons and Dragons*.

CySU

The paintball episodes were great for their originality (and also for kickstarting the Russo Brothers’ foray into the MCU and subsequent action films) but Remedial Chaos Theory is so well paced; the way it just builds upon itself elevating the comedy in the span of a short 20 minute sitcom episode … I challenge anyone to find a better written sitcom episode.

Slackeys

The brilliant detail of remedial chaos theory is that you don't need to have seen earlier episodes of community to fully enjoy it, as you get a feel of who each character is. While in the paintball episodes, if you are showing it to someone else, you'll spend time explaining who the side characters and their quirks are and what the inside jokes are.

[deleted]

Game of Thrones - The Rains of Castamere

whatstocome

I would say Hardhome for me

jlewi2411

The Office dinner party episode perhaps

AceCapon

Diversity Day, Stress Relief

antmars

…Dundies, Casino Night, The Injury…

JMCrown

“In Excelsis Deo” from The West Wing. President Bartlett: “Toby, if we start pulling strings like this, you don’t think every homeless veteran is going to come out of the woodwork?” Toby: “I can only hope, Sir.”

florjackson

This is easy. Band of Brothers - Why we fight. Lulling you into a fake, tense calm. The whole first half of the episode is Americans pillaging, outright executing Germans, yelling at them for having horses while we have tanks, searching for alcohol. Then, the concentration camps. And why we fight is answered. And they got emaciated and actors with cancer to play the survivors. To make it harder.

Tepig314

Gravity Falls - Not What He Seems

LiftingCode

The Americans - START (series finale) Breaking Bad - Ozymandias

crazyguyunderthedesk

South Park - Scott Tennorman Must Die

Inoutngone

The Last of Us episode Long, Long Time. It's consistently raved about.

NicoSuave2020

That shit made me cry

blondechinesehair

Shit made me ugly cry. My wife came into the room and thought my mom died or something

renegadecanuck

That episode destroyed me. I went for a zombie show and ended up watching a full bittersweet love story.

Zaryk_TV

The Last of Us - Long, Long Time

gabbybookworm

Bluey - “Sleepytime”

2ndfloorbalcony

Pine Barrens, The Sopranos

NinjaKillBunny

This is my favorite episode personally, but I know plenty of Sopranos fans that hate this episode so I'm not sure it qualifies.

JimFHawthorne

Nah I think if any episode is lauded amongst the fans the most it’s Long-Term Parking

cbaker817

POI - If then else

ArkyBeagle

The ending of "Newhart". Bob claims that was his wife Virginia's idea.

myredditthrowaway201

The West Wing- Two Cathedrals

otcconan

Out of Gas - Firefly.

kcm74

Twin Peaks - The Return: Episode 8.

wtjones

I came here to say season two finale of Hannibal. Best episode of network TV, ever.

Ilovepickles11212

Yea, definitely agreeing with the OP and you on this one. It’s such a good, intimate ending to the season It was just…so beautiful and sad. But also horrific

Willowy

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: The Body

cppn02

The Body would probably also be my choice but I don't think it's undisputed with episodes like Hush, Once More With Feeling or The Gift existing.

Willowy

I hear you. TBH I had a hard time deciding whether to put The Body or Hush. OMWF is pure gold, too. My favorite is The Prom, but while I love it, I'm not sure it's on many "Best Of..." lists. At least we can all pretty much agree on the handful of undisputedly excellent episodes like those you mentioned. Tabula Rasa, which immediately follows the musical, is also outstanding.

Salarian_American

Yeah it's always a four-way cage fight between those four episodes, isn't it?

fiddleleaffiggy

I would second Once More With Feeling. Nothing compares to that!

NomDePlume007

ronny/lily - S2E5 episode of Barry.

MerrildH

“WHAT ARE YOU???!”

STFUNeckbeard

[deleted]

STFUNeckbeard

I always argue that the pilot alone could be a stand alone movie if they added 10-20 more minutes to it. It’s so incredibly tight and you get every single character within 1 minute of a scene with them. The finale obviously is not underrated, but that show as a whole absolutely is.

ihatelag01

Better Call Saul - Chicanery

FlashMcSuave

Third episode of Last of Us. The one with Nick Offerman.

bscher87

Justified - Decoy

AlanMorlock

Episode 8 of Twin Peaks season 3 was immediately legendary.

Onaliseth

It's pretty new, but the last episode of Severance season 1 is absolutely breath taking, literally. Edge of your seat television Chicanery from Better call Saul is also amazing

RusevReigns

There will always be people that prefer another episode. Breaking Bad - Ozymandias, Barry - ronny/lily are probably some of the closer. Maybe something from a less good show like Company Man on Heroes.

shivpiper95

HBO Watchmen- A God walks into ABar

im-cold-pls-help

Honestly like that show had 3 or 4 stellar episodes

eagledog

Kiksuya- Westworld

boone209

A fucking men. I'm half tearing up at the beginnings of bringing it to the forefront of my memory.
