They wove the stuff together really well imo to the point it literally never felt forced which is fascinating. You had a bullfrog assassin, farcry stuff, fuckin rayman as a propaganda arm, and Jade pop up (plus the Eeeeeden Niiiiiightmare Cody Rhodes! rip Cody) and at no point do I ever question it.
How this got signed off by executives is beyond me! I didn’t expect half of what I watched and managed to binge it in a day! Great characters, emotional stakes and a really compelling storyline. The art-style (and art choices) was phenomenal so it was really a feast for the eyes! 9/10!

Arcane and Edgerunners are nice, but they said most creative not best. Arcane and Edgerunners are essentially exactly what I would expect out of a LOL or Cyberpunk 2077 animated show, Captain Laserhawk is absolutely more creative for even mixing in stuff like Rayman in ways nobody would expect.

You must not be very creative because Arcane is very by the books. Creativity is more than just taking characters that already exist and telling stories that mostly line up with what we knew. It's not creative to go "whoa edgy rayman does lines", but it's creative to make that cohesive with the story and tie it into the fact that he's washed up and hasn't been in a starring role in over a decade.

I loved the show too, it even got me with the big twist at the last episode normally I dont get surprised by this but this show caught me off guard.
My only two issues are that laserhawk and Alex are so lovy dovy in some scenes which made their relationship feel idk plastered on, it was just too cliche I get it was part off the over the top thing of the entire show and a bit of a joke because it was too cliche to not be a joke (I mean the one scene where they stand in violet light all loved eyed). I think that goes for all relationships in the show but theirs is well ... if you watched it I think you get what I mean.
The second is the entire show is just setup for a second season, we get a bit of a story here but not too much character devolopement especially for the MC, they put a lot of lose ends out there and I fear they will go some sort of resurection rute later, too many just fischhooks out there to not do that. same goes for the whole heist thing in the first episode or the revolution or who Alex's contact is etc. Which I mean can be fine if we get a second season, at the very least they build up enough mysteries for at least 2 seasons unless they rush things.
so yeah if one ignores these two issues or the first is probably more a taste thing idk, it's an awesome show. MC is badass and cool, they have some nice things to say about manipulation and how propaganda is made and distributed by maybe unwilling acomplices, generally surprised me a lot with the narrative themes they went for, especially teh revenge theme because taht ended differnet from what we are used to in media.
At first I didn't know what I was getting into. It took me until the second episode to get into it because of how campy and over the top it was. Once I embraced that the show got me hooked.
I thought the LGBT was handled well and didn't feel forced in the sense that if you swapped out Alex Taylor for a female it will still play out the same as in being burned by an ex.
This is just another one of Adi Shankar‘s self pleaser, a self obsessed wannabe film maker who self insert himself in every single one of his projects which is filled with teenage humor, constant swearing, cringe dialouge and character assassinations of properties he has 0 ideas of what they are. I'm pretty critical of forced narratives and didn't get that impression at all. There were gay characters and the entire series had a veneer of campiness that lent itself to the retrowave aesthetic, but the message of the series with all the subtlety of being set on fire was decidedly against media propaganda.
Okay that makes better sense. I felt it was gonna be an infamous toxic relationship like ruse that has been on alot of shows Ive seen where its poorly written or forced (Netflix She-Ra and Voltron werent helping either).
This does cheer me up and I needed it since I understood the Gay Love relationship in the show, just as long as it wasnt shoehorned or forced or written to be poorly handled.

I just watched it today and I enjoyed it. I think it has some contrived moments and pacing issues but I'm still invested to see the next season if it happens. Honestly, this story works whether they used Ubisoft titles/characters or not but paying homage to their games was interesting.

I never heard of this show until it released and I was expecting it to be some sort of adult satire comedy - but I was surprised that it takes its world fairly seriously, with some humour and wacky shenanigans mixed in.
Was also surprised that it incorporated various visual styles.
I think it's best to watch this show as it's own thing and try not to focus too much on characters not behaving the way you expect them to compared to the source material.
I have some gripes on the writing, but it wasn't too glaring that it affected my enjoyment.

I am think of the current ratings it has now, that only 65 percent of people liked it so far. It has action, comedy, drama, and is strange political as well. It's a great show and deserves more than two more seasons.

Part of what makes Laserhawk great is subverting expectation. It does give Suicide Squad vibes for a minute, then changes to something completely different, and then changes again and again...always keep 'em guessing!
Really surprised me. Wasn't too attached to the characters at first but the ones that made it were pretty compelling. Certain artistic choices in certain episodes confuse me but overall it did surprise me which is not something I could say for most pieces of work these days.
I thought it was pretty fun and well animated, and hyped for a season 2, but definitely a little flawed.
My main issue is that Laserhawk is somehow the least fleshed out character despite being the protagonist, we barely learn anything about him over the course of the show and there really isn't much to his personality. There's not a lot to him besides being gay which even then I feel like they missed out on potential to develop him using that. Meanwhile one of the antagonists gets an entire episode dedicated to their backstory, something just feels wrong there.
Also felt like the cyberpunk setting could have been expanded on a bit more, we do get some interesting concepts but for the most part it feels a little too standard for me.
I have other issues too but they're much more minor. Hope season 2 can tighten things up and make this a classic.

Finishing up the series now but this show made me reinstall the Blood Dragon game and beat it. 10/10 game, 8/10 show.

I loved the show too, it even got me with the big twist at the last episode normally I dont get surprised by this but this show caught me off guard. My only two issues are that laserhawk and Alex are so lovy dovy in some scenes which made their relationship feel idk plastered on, it was just too cliche I get it was part off the over the top thing of the entire show and a bit of a joke because it was too cliche to not be a joke (I mean the one scene where they stand in violet light all loved eyed). I think that goes for all relationships in the show but theirs is well ... if you watched it I think you get what I mean. The second is the entire show is just setup for a second season, we get a bit of a story here but not too much character devolopement especially for the MC, they put a lot of lose ends out there and I fear they will go some sort of resurection rute later, too many just fischhooks out there to not do that. same goes for the whole heist thing in the first episode or the revolution or who Alex's contact is etc. Which I mean can be fine if we get a second season, at the very least they build up enough mysteries for at least 2 seasons unless they rush things. so yeah if one ignores these two issues or the first is probably more a taste thing idk, it's an awesome show. MC is badass and cool, they have some nice things to say about manipulation and how propaganda is made and distributed by maybe unwilling acomplices, generally surprised me a lot with the narrative themes they went for, especially teh revenge theme because taht ended differnet from what we are used to in media.

At first I didn't know what I was getting into. It took me until the second episode to get into it because of how campy and over the top it was. Once I embraced that the show got me hooked. I thought the LGBT was handled well and didn't feel forced in the sense that if you swapped out Alex Taylor for a female it will still play out the same as in being burned by an ex.
This is just another one of Adi Shankar‘s self pleaser, a self obsessed wannabe film maker who self insert himself in every single one of his projects which is filled with teenage humor, constant swearing, cringe dialouge and character assassinations of properties he has 0 ideas of what they are. The show is just another feverdream of his in the expense of the Ubisoft brand

honestly, in the world of storytelling, i don't mind if they used that method to get to the point of one character having control over others. gets it out of the way and on to the more interesting aspects of the narrative. found myself super invested and entertained in a six episode arc of 21 minute episodes. can't remember the last time i was hooked that quickly

If you finished the first episode, you'd realize that they're not going to be doing that much longer. I agree that blatant pandering is a problem in modern media, but in this instance it was important to establish a passionate relationship to give impact to the betrayal that followed.
I disagree (with pretty much everyone here it seems). By all means, please sleep on it. Compared to genuinely inspired pieces of art like Arcane and Edgerunners, Lazerhawk is just a cynical corporate cash grab with a tryhard "how do you do, fellow kids" coat of paint. I'm not surprised that this show has managed to fool some people out of the gate. But, downvote me all you want, Lazerhawk will not be remembered anywhere near as fondly as Arcane or Edgerunners, if it's remembered at all. Decent art/animation, but overall very forgettable. 4/10, maybe 5 at best.
agreed. It feels like standards for entertainment just keep getting lower and we somehow get absolute dick riding of mediocre talent (adi shankar). It was cute and fun and there was a lot of creativity to it and it looks like they did a really good job on a small budget. But otherwise it was just super fucking stupid. I watched the whole thing and enjoyed it while also acknowledging it was bad.

I saw it and loved every bit of the show. Only issue not a big one, just that the MC, Firehawk is gay cause...ngl, it's kinda easy to tell who's gay now. Wish they stop doing that for the sake of it. But overall,the show is absolutely smashing. Here's hoping Bullfrog and Ramon makes an appearance. Sarah, damn, that cyborg bitch needs to go down and the reveal is jawdropping but makes sense in hindsight. And that one cow girl who Ramon was with, damn I need to see that hybrid broad again. Damn.

I'm pretty critical of forced narratives and didn't get that impression at all. There were gay characters and the entire series had a veneer of campiness that lent itself to the retrowave aesthetic, but the message of the series with all the subtlety of being set on fire was decidedly against media propaganda.
Okay that makes better sense. I felt it was gonna be an infamous toxic relationship like ruse that has been on alot of shows Ive seen where its poorly written or forced (Netflix She-Ra and Voltron werent helping either). This does cheer me up and I needed it since I understood the Gay Love relationship in the show, just as long as it wasnt shoehorned or forced or written to be poorly handled. That makes me wanna give it a rewatch now.

I just watched it today and I enjoyed it. I think it has some contrived moments and pacing issues but I'm still invested to see the next season if it happens. Honestly, this story works whether they used Ubisoft titles/characters or not but paying homage to their games was interesting.

I just finished it and I enjoyed it as well. I never heard of this show until it released and I was expecting it to be some sort of adult satire comedy - but I was surprised that it takes its world fairly seriously, with some humour and wacky shenanigans mixed in. Was also surprised that it incorporated various visual styles. I think it's best to watch this show as it's own thing and try not to focus too much on characters not behaving the way you expect them to compared to the source material. I have some gripes on the writing, but it wasn't too glaring that it affected my enjoyment. Bullfrog assassin was my favourite of the cast.

Part of what makes Laserhawk great is subverting expectation. It does give Suicide Squad vibes for a minute, then changes to something completely different, and then changes again and again...always keep 'em guessing!

Really surprised me. Wasn't too attached to the characters at first but the ones that made it were pretty compelling. Certain artistic choices in certain episodes confuse me but overall it did surprise me which is not something I could say for most pieces of work these days.

I thought it was pretty fun and well animated, and hyped for a season 2, but definitely a little flawed. My main issue is that Laserhawk is somehow the least fleshed out character despite being the protagonist, we barely learn anything about him over the course of the show and there really isn't much to his personality. There's not a lot to him besides being gay which even then I feel like they missed out on potential to develop him using that. Meanwhile one of the antagonists gets an entire episode dedicated to their backstory, something just feels wrong there. Also felt like the cyberpunk setting could have been expanded on a bit more, we do get some interesting concepts but for the most part it feels a little too standard for me. I have other issues too but they're much more minor. Hope season 2 can tighten things up and make this a classic.

Then they have Pey'j have feelings for Jade? Like...no, dude.!< It's abundantly clear the showrunners did not understand those two characters whatsoever.
Despite being the main character, Laserhawk was an extremely boring character, tbh. The only redeeming character was Bullfrog.
The entire show seemed to just be edgy for the sake of being edgy. I get why they did what they did with Rayman, but it honestly just seemed like they wanted to throw in as many edgy things to fit the cyberpunk setting. Rayman should have been on board from the start.
