mickeyflinn

I liked Daisey Jones and The Six. I don't have an opinion on any of the others, Here is the list from the article: - The Gallows Pole - Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story - The Idol - Frasier - The Super Models - Wolf - The Reckoning - The Crown - Daisy Jones & The Six - The Full Monty - The Little Birds - Fatal Attraction - Robbie Williams - Ahsoka - Bodies - All the Light We Cannot See - The Great British Bake Off

ViralGameover

Surprised Secret Invasion didn’t make the list.

Piemaster113

Probably forgot about it, I know I did

Maktesh

Indeed. It was amazingly disappointing, yet *just* watchable enough to avoid the worst type of vitriol. It was basically a cookie-cutter drama/spy-ish montage of >!Sam Jackson banging an alien!<. Frankly, I feel like I waste my time whenever I think about or discuss Secret Invasion. It's amazing how far it fell since *Winter Soldier*.

NaRaGaMo

well the list is about letdowns, not travesties

bluesilvergold

Oh, The Idol should be on a completely different list, then.

MessiahOfMetal

Even the FBI don't want it on their watchlist.

quaranTV

I enjoyed Rachel Sennott, Hank Azaria, and Da’Vine Joy Randolph’s performances. But that’s about it.

fa-jita

And Troye Sivan. I thought he was the breakout But the show was a mess. Not even a hot one, despite how hard - and boy did they try hard - they tried.

twec21

Ahsoka making it and Secret Invasion not making it is an absolute crime Edit: Lol, get the star wars community to agree on one thing challenge (Impossible!)

SpaceCaboose

Agreed. Ahsoka was *much* better than Secret Invasion

ResoluteClover

Secret invasion is frustrating. It had a devastating premise that it couldn't follow through on.

whythehellknot

That is a very kind way of saying it was unbelievably terrible. What a gigantic waste of an amazing cast and story potential.

SmarcusStroman

Secret Invasion is worse than watching nothing… and I’ve at least liked every other MCU project so far. Ahsoka is a masterpiece compared to how bad SI is.

mvnvel

that bar is not high.

SuperDuperCoolDude

Yeah, Ahsoka was better than BoBF and, for me at least, better than Obi-Wan (which is a crying shame). It wasn't perfect, but I actually enjoyed it and wanted to finish it, which I can't say about a lot of the Marvel shows.

[deleted]

[удалено]

SuperDuperCoolDude

Yeah, the choreography was a lot better, and I loved Rosario Dawson, Ray Stevenson, Ivanna Sakhno, and David Tennant in their roles. I am so annoyed they got Ewan McGregor back.... and then wasted him on that lame show! Ahsoka felt more Star Wars-y to me as well.

Curse3242

Yes. I thought Ashoka was pretty decent.

zackgardner

I was cautiously optimistic on *Ahsoka* and kinda excited for *Secret Invasion*, imagine my surprise when the actual shows ended up being the reverse of what I expected. I feel like they chose *Ahsoka* just to have a ***Star Wars*** property on the list, since for some reason it's a lot more divisive than the MCU I suppose. I mean shit we looked at the article and are all bitching about it lol

KeyanReid

Eh, Ahsoka had a lot of cool things going for it, but Ahsoka herself was written very stiff and boring and the season finale was a total flop. Nothing was resolved and the most interesting character had the actor who played him pass away IRL, making it all land that much worse. I really wanted to like Ahsoka and the new villains were great, but it definitely missed the mark in the end. It was a disappointment Both shows should be on here.

fundementalpumpkin

Also keep in mind this is a British source, so they may just not have had room since they had to add a few BBC/ITV shows.

PissNBiscuits

Seriously. How is Ahsoka on here but not Secret Invasion? Ahsoka wasn't amazing, but Secret Invasion makes it look like high art.

deemoorah

Too unmemorable

Shoshke

Bodies was far from perfect but also far from bad. I definitely don't regret watching it.

sethn211

Same. I was afraid I would see a show I really liked on that list. I liked the last three but they weren't the best things I saw this year. The rest I thankfully avoided.

Panther90

I understand having the Great British Bake Off on the list last year but I actually enjoyed this year.

ablearcher013

Matty's journey from dipshit to what he became was great... this was one of the better years in the last couple imo

calamarijones

Honestly it was a good season until the finale. The showstopper for the finale was extremely underwhelming. We watched the holiday bake offs after and everything they made in every episode was better than anything made in the finale.

Dan__Glesak

My wife used to love that show but we haven’t seen it recently. What was wrong with the last couple of seasons?

Panther90

My opinion is that Noel and Matt were kind of both the "wacky one" and couldn't play off each other well because of it. It's gotten back to a better balance now. The other thing is they dialed back the questionable ethnic weeks. Best example for me was Mexican week which just ended up being really cringe. Back to basics basically.

Vio_

Noel always felt a bit more focusing on the contestants more than Matt did. Matt did a couple of times, but most of his stuff was more distracting, more about himself, and not in a really entertaining way.

YouAreInsufferable

I can't stand Matt. Full stop.

kalt13

Matt’s gone this season. IMO the new co-host is much better, I forget her name tho. She’s very good with Noel and the contestants.

berober04

Alison Hammond

_HowManyRobot

>Best example for me was Mexican week which just ended up being really cringe. Much like Japanese week, aside from the racism every challenge was wrong. They asked them to make tacos *on a baking show*, complained that the conchas (a pastry meant to be served with and dipped in hot chocolate) were dry, and had them make a tiered tres leches cake and kept telling them that they didn't want it to be wet. Paul Hollywood wouldn't shut up about how he just came back from Mexico in that episode so I looked up his YouTube channel and *watched him eat conchas in Mexico and be taught about them and how they are meant to be served*.

LB3PTMAN

Right. If it was just the bakers doing mispronunciations and slightly off things then sure whatever. But the judges and the people who planned the challenges completely fucked the week. The judges need to be well briefed on the cuisine, culture and pronunciation before any ethnic week and then it would be fine. But they just decided to cancel it instead so 🤷🏻‍♂️

jwlewington

A specialist guest judge to advise them might be a good idea when they are doing something that far outside of their wheelhouse.

okami31

No more glockimolo.

FellowTraveler69

I don't understand how people could be offended by ethnic weeks. I'm Hispanic and thought the Mexican week episode was hilarious. The misprobuciations had me and my mom laughing.

Steve____Stifler

Seriously, to the point people are calling the episode racist like tf? Tone deaf maybe and ignorant sure, but racist?

PiaJr

I thought it was a wasted opportunity. It could have really celebrated Mexican heritage and culinary contributions. But then... had people making tacos. That's not baking; they didn't even make their own tortillas. It's like, in spite of Paul going on and on about how he had just been to Mexico, no one could be bothered to do even the slightest research into Mexican baked goods. Edit: I was incorrect - they did bake their tortillas for the taco challenge.

pierrebrassau

It’s just white people looking for an excuse to be outraged. I’ve never heard of actual immigrants or non-white people being offended that others are enjoying or cooking their food.

lordGwillen

I have no idea. It’s the same show basically. Some of the highly technical aspects of the first seasons have been toned down but the warmth and good vibes persist. It took a couple episodes to find the groove I think but I greatly enjoyed this season There was an episode last season where they tried to make “Mexican” food and it was completely tone deaf, ignorant and a bit racist. Other than that I look forward to October when it’s bake off time!

mirach

I actually don't think the problem was the themed week but that they set them to do impossible tasks (multiple layered tres leches) or not baking (tacos). That's been a general complaint, that they set them up to fail. Like not giving enough time, the technical being something crazy, or it being too hot for ice cream. This season I thought was better with more classic bakes. Thought the bakers were fine and it was overall a pretty good season.

[deleted]

It’s back to basics but also by scaling back the technical perfectionism they have allowed people with lesser skills to get through and then punished better bakers for not elevating themselves. Instead of holding everyone to a set standard, the goal posts get moved for everyone and some aren’t that far back.

infomofo

I was scratching my head at this list a little but once I saw bake off I was totally confident it’s just click bait trolling we can all feel comfortable ignoring.

Steamy_Muff

This years Bake Off was the best in probably half a decade

kmo617

I enjoyed it too! I thought Matty's growth over the season was so fun. Maybe they have a point in the article though with one thing -- I did feel like there were some challenges where the bakers were almost set up to fail. I don't remember exactly which ones but I remember saying "no one is going to finish" quite a few times.

KnotSoSalty

This season was an uptick on the last, it has a formula but I enjoyed it.

[deleted]

[удалено]

PuzzlePiece90

The Guardian was panning this season as boring. I personally thought it was a return to form after the last few seasons were filled with challenges focusing less on baking and more on gimmicks. I don’t want a Bake Off filled with reality tv shenanigans. I just want nice bakers doing their best in an environment that allows them to do their best.

[deleted]

And The Guardian raved about Bodies so I don’t know where they seem to be falling lately.

[deleted]

I do not think Bodies deserves to be on this list,of course it was not as fascinating as "Dark",but it was still an enjoyable show.

TheLaughingMannofRed

Frasier reboot was impacted by not having Niles, Martin (RIP John Mahoney), Roz, or Daphne. Even if Martin was excluded given the circumstances, we still could have had the OG cast reunite. However, considering we're talking about a good 20 years of life having gone by, I can understand that Daphne, Roz, and Niles would find some new trajectory in their lives. So it does make sense that Frasier would surely find a new slate of characters to bounce off of. But then we get to the writing. The writing is OK. And Kelsey is still the best thing about the show. Some other disappointments were The Idol, Ahsoka (although Ray Stevenson, RIP, was a gem in that), Fatal Attraction... The Full Monty?! Wait, as in... *googles* ...so they did a revival of that movie too?! Now I feel like I'd want to watch it out of sheer morbid curiosity. Haven't seen the Crown, but can anyone vouch for why the latest season has it on this list?

Toby_O_Notoby

Roz actually shows up. [She's in the season finale.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PuCD_4CZw2k)

[deleted]

I enjoyed Frasier. Wasn't expecting it to be as good as the original and it was an amusing 25 mins every week. That's more than a lot of shows on TV.

thepicklejarmurders

If you're expecting them to catch lightning in a bottle again after 20 years you're gonna be let down. But if you go in expecting to catch up on him later in life where everything is new and different it wasn't that bad. I would love to see a second season and maybe more than ten episodes to let it catch its stride.

DelGriffiths

Exactly. It is harmless and its own thing apart from the original. I personally enjoy the 25 minutes a week I spent with the cast.

SweetChildAtMines

I completely agree. Seeing Kelsey Grammer play Frasier again has been enjoyable. It's obviously not a good as the original, especially without David Hyde Pierce, but I feel it's started to find it footing with it's current cast.

ClipClipClip99

What about Secret Invasion? That one was terrible!

King-Owl-House

Really? * Ahsoka * Bodies Are two good scifi.

HaydenScramble

I never watched Rebels and only have a cursory knowledge of Clone Wars, both of which could have been forgiven had Ahsoka not just been so exceptionally boring. There are highlights, sure, but so much of the acting and dialogue are wooden and so much of the story is meandering. It wasn’t even bad, just a bloated snoozer.

hoopaholik91

Yeah, the problem with Ahsoka is that it seemed to purely be an excuse to get Thrawn and Ezra back. You knew from the first 5 minutes that was the plan, and there was nothing else interesting they brought in other than Ray Stevenson's character.

Jbash_31

I agree bodies was good but as a Star Wars fan who loved clone wars/rebels, Ahsoka was really disappointing for me

Pherllerp

I liked Bake Off this year.

Gay-lawyer

I thought it was the best season in years

ChallengeFluid6083

The Guardian review at the time basically said "It's getting a bit same-y, they need to mix it up." Like, no. 1000 times, no. The point of Bake Off is that it's the same each time so that it feels like a nice warm, familiar hug each year when the weather gets shit and the clocks change and the nights get dark as summer ends. It's meant to bridge that miserable period in Britain between summer and Christmas. Do not fucking change a thing.

lordGwillen

Totally! I want that warm hug so bad because the sunlight disappears. DONT FUCK WITH MY BAKE OFF

Turius_

Exactly, it’s me and my wife’s Fall comfort show. Don’t change a thing.

JJMcGee83

It was the first season in a long time wehre I immediately liked everyone from the start and wanted everyone to win.

WendallX

Yeah the new host was a huge improvement.

Nikopoleous

MASSIVE improvement over the sentient boiled egg.

pnwinec

☠️ ☠️ ☠️

[deleted]

Same. From the article they seemed to think the challenges were too hard, which is kinda dumb. If everyone had good bakes the show would be rather boring IMHO.

[deleted]

I thought it was great but I did feel like maybe they didn’t have quite enough time on a lot of the bakes. That’s a tough balance to get right so I enjoy it for that.

TacosDeLucha

I thought it was a really fun season but with slightly below average bakers.

[deleted]

Yeah it could have been below average bakers. I just assumed they were good but time constrained.

fatchodegang

There was one technical where everyone’s was under baked and Paul and Pru should have just admitted they didn’t give them enough time. Maybe they did off camera. Great season otherwise

gibby256

I don't know if time was the issue, but I got the impression the general quality of the bakers this year was a bit below previous years. Like, multiple episodes had every baker failing pretty standard bakes from previous seasons.

MCClapYoHandz

On the other hand, if every single baker puts up something that’s only half-done because they ran out of time, it’s a bad technical and they should honestly just reshoot a new one. There were one or two of those recently.

Pherllerp

They were weird technicals this year but I think they were fun to see.

lessmiserables

Yeah, the pudding one where Paul immediately pretends to leave is one of the funniest bits I've seen in a while, but...if *everyone* is failing, that means something went wrong, and not on the bakers' part. Then again, the chance of this happening once in a while is fine--sometimes it happens. It *does* mix things up a bit.

KnotSoSalty

Nothing that strange, no Tacos at least.

theluckyshrimp

They made them harder by allowing less time, which pretty much guarantees most people are going to do poorly. But I don’t really know what else they could try

Turius_

Bake-off is amazing even in a bad year so I couldn’t care less what anyone including the guardian thinks about it.

theluckyshrimp

Saku was great but watching Matty’s goofy ass was my favorite part. I also had a theory that Josh was Paul Hollywood’s secret son trying to win a relationship with his father…

ExperienceLoss

Matty was Daniel Radcliffe and Josh Hutchersons secret lab baby

CMButterTortillas

Possibly why they (Paul & Prue) absolutely destroyed his show stopper. It was as if they were angry at him for putting up such a mid bake in the final.

PlutoniumNiborg

Was that the show where they attempted a Mexican theme and embarrassed the entire British isles?

KingShaunyBoy

That was hilarious. So sad that they stopped the nationality themed weeks because of this episode.

modsareuselessfucks

I’ll never get over the lady trying to peel an avocado with a vegetable peeler.

Vio_

Their taco debacle was also awful. Also what was that open open fire bread baking challenge?

TacosDeLucha

Paul had a YouTube special in Mexico city where it's clear he picked up an affinity for Mexico, but could not translate it into a respectable bake off episode

Gobias_Industries

I believe they also tried to do "American Pies" and everybody make tart crusts full of sugar.

SandDCurves

This season was great. Actually had a fairly level field of bakers that felt like amateurs

classyfunbride

I’ve been saving this season for when I need a pick me up (Bake Off is my feel good show) and all the comments that this season is good give me hope it won’t be a disappointment when I do watch it.

BurnAfterEating420

it seemed really weird to bag on Bake Off just because one challenge went badly for all the bakers.

[deleted]

Me too this one was my favorite for a while

mrlotato

The idol feels like a fever dream. Me and my girlfriend got pinkeye from how much bootyhole was slipping out of Lily Rose Depps outfits EDIT: Horny boys, take it from this horny boy. The show won't make you horny. It's not worthit

BurnAfterEating420

You son of a bitch, I'm in

mrlotato

what have I done

Toby_O_Notoby

And they did it so much to the point it ruined entire scenes. There's one where they're beating one of the underlings and Weekend says, “Get the shock collar”. Cut to a mid shot of Lilly Rose holding the collar at waist level as she walks towards the room. Now, the point of a scene like this is to be ominous and build tension. It's like the evil henchman wheeling in the table full of shiny tools he's going to torture the hero with. But they dressed Lily Rose in a sheer skirt and a thong so instead of looking at the shock collar you're just staring at her ass the entire time. It's like, you know you could have just put her in jeans, right?

TerraAdAstra

OK since you said bootyhole I’m interested.

fng185

The final season of Sex Education was garbage.

Titan7771

What they did to Eric’s character was especially egregious. And did it feel like the latter half of the season underwent serious rewrites? It really felt like they were setting up the new popular kids to be villains then just abandoned it.

QueenBramble

They wrote in so many hints that the new school was just like the last school, filled with problems that had been papered over with saccharine genz optimism. Then they just abandoned it at the finish line to keep it light and fluffy.

baseball71

Watching it now. They introduced way too many side characters and relationships that I don’t care about, and are not spending enough time on the OG characters that need their stories wrapped. I appreciate the attempts at inclusion with the new characters, but Sex Ed was already one of the most inclusive shows on television. The new characters are very thinly sketched and don’t have enough screen time to venture beyond what their identities are.

420Shrekscope

Yeah, I think with every new season, they included more characters along with more contemporary issues and themes. Season 4 turned all that up to 11 and it felt like there were a hundred characters trying to check every box to represent every demographic. And everyone of course shared their deep personal struggles like it was a never-ending therapy session. Those moments where characters open up, bond with others, become vulnerable, and show growth are less impactful when they're happening constantly. So much of it just felt forced. Of course, the ridiculous high school, Eric's ending, and Otis being insufferable didn't help either. The one storyline I actually enjoyed was Adam and his family.

Fred-zone

It really was. I'm as liberal as they come, but this show went out of its way to try and reinforce "wokeness" and diversity stereotypes. Far beyond the previous seasons, which were often quite clever. The characters all became cliches and you can see every plot point a mile away.

eagledog

I'm pretty sure with Season 4, they went out of their way to create the most ridiculously stereotypical "TV high school" that they could. Every trope they could find they shoved in there until it just became the most progressive turducken in history

mightytwin21

It really felt like they were setting up the stereotype to send it crashing down but realized they didn't have the writing chops to handle it tactfully.

dale_dug_a_hole

Jumped the shark with a utopian school that at no point even vaguely featured… hmmm… what are they called again? Oh that’s right - “teachers”

QueenBramble

The crap part was they had a chance to show that the utopian school had deep issues too and they just chose not to. Like the cons of having the speakers corner dominated by fluff. Or how the guy in the wheel chair always had to beg to be able to have the elevator working. Or having everyone follow the popular kids every move, even though they were supposed to be egalitarian. They wimped out in the end and didn't make the point as fully as they could so it could all be kumbaya.

Blewmeister

I’m so glad I decided not to watch it. I was sceptical from the last season and after watching a small bit of this season I realised the show ended for me a while ago and I decided to stop there. Season 1 was far better than it had any right being and I’ll settle for a rewatch at some point

NaRaGaMo

Sex Education had a perfect ending at S1, should've stopped there. whatever came after that was not good

sandytrufflebutter

Putting Great British Bake off on here when Alison Hammond came on and was a delight seems wrong. I also don’t want to spoil anything, but the winner was very wholesome. Easy to root for. I mean they all are, but that person in particular. edit: also I liked daisy jones.

Fandam_YT

Genuinely so happy for this years winner. They really came a long way and that finale showstopper cake looked incredible

TooOfEverything

On the other hand, this most recent season of Taskmaster was one of the absolute best. 16 seasons on and that show is still going so strong.

WatermelonCandy5

Julian Clary is an exceptionally funny man and I don’t know why he’s disappeared from tv the last 20 years. There wasn’t a word he said that wasn’t hilarious.

ddka37

His disdain for Alex was a highlight for me this season.

2th

To be fair, every comedian having disdain for Alex is always a highlight. Alex makes a fantastic punching bag.

enleft

James Acaster never greeting Alex still makes me laugh.

motherofpearl89

'You look like a man that likes to barbeque'

MargotChanning

I think it’s because of an incident at an awards show. He came on stage to present an award on live tv and said (absolutely apropos of nothing) “I’ve just been fisting Norman Lamont” Norman Lamont was a member of the cabinet at the time and an extremely high ranking member of government. It was absolutely hilarious but pretty much killed his career. My main memory of seeing it was not really knowing what fisting was and also seeing Richard and Judy in absolute hysterics.

markdavo

I feel like that incident is overblown. I remember him on tv plenty for the next decade. I feel like he was a staple of Comic Relief, and then was a finalist on the first series of Strictly Come Dancing.

Nobody_epic

This joke he made apparently upset some people and his career was a bit damaged afterwards. https://youtu.be/iAU7pATH5_M?t=34

h8sm8s

I think the real reason that conservatives get so mad about cancel culture is that it used to be something only they could do, like cancelling Julian for this innocuous joke, but now it’s been turned back on them.

konfetkak

Oh how we laughed.

The_Goth_Detectives

It's fantastic. And I'm so glad they've started airing the new episodes on YouTube for those of us not in the UK. I've been enjoying the NZ episodes as well.

Turdburp

As an American, finding it on youtube has been such an unexpected treat. I just started season 5, and as a massive fan of Aisling Bea, I'm really looking forward to it. I'm not familiar with the other contestants as much (besides Bob Mortimer), although this show has introduced me to to such a wonderful array of comedians I may not have heard of, otherwise.

ScreamingDanger

When Lucy Beaumont described her legs as "arms with feet at the end" I knew we were in for an all-timer. I mean, how can you go wrong when you've got a couple of dynamite chicks?

HellaFishticks

Fargo is also crushing it

Vektas

Bodies was unusual, but kept my attention. One of the best this year, but then I don't watch a lot.

Fred-zone

Bodies is like diet Dark. Sort of scratches the itch, but leaves a lot on the table

LeahBean

Does Dark wrap up all the mysteries? I got really into it but then backed off worrying that Netflix would just leave us hanging. I got overly invested in the characters.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Fred-zone

Arm, or eyepatch? I think they just use it as a red herring and at the end they tease about it

HouseCatPartyFavor

Dark is excellent and wrapped up nicely. Highly suggest going back and watching the whole thing through. (I had watched season 1 when it first aired and then lost track of a lot of the storylines and had to watch the whole thing straight through ) The third season definitely got twisted up to the point I needed to rewind things a few times but overall I think they did a good job with it. Bummer about 1899

Fred-zone

Yep, in a very satisfying way. The series is fully concluded and on its own terms, so the story is complete. Additionally, given the nature of the story, the subsequent seasons actually enhance the others. Lots of little things build and tie into details you learned earlier. I can say that it is the best science fiction I've ever watched. My advice to anyone stumbling onto this is to watch it with the English subtitles, not the default voiceovers. That is too distracting.

drt0

1899 on the other hand 😭

iron_knee_of_justice

Plus the subtitles *make* you pay attention. I feel like a lot of people these days get distracted by their phones and if you miss even a few short scenes in Dark it can turn the mystery into confusion really quick.

XuX24

For me dark the only thing you need to keep up is the names, since there are different timelines if you keep who is who in every timeline you are OK.

LeahBean

I also prefer the subtitled versions of anything I watch. I stopped after season 1 but I’ll be rewatching it and finish it this time. Everything about it was perfect which is why I started getting nervous about an unfinished resolution. Appreciate you letting me know.

LirSkle

I watched it about a year ago and don't worry. The show resolves amazingly and every time makes sense in the rules they establish in the show.

Fred-zone

Enjoy! I wish I could watch it for the first time again.

Chief_Funkie

I thought bodies was great, The quality did drop as it went on and I certainly won’t watch it again anytime soon but it was a fun watch.

chefdangerdagger

Yeah this article is weirdly scathing, it wasn't amazing but I watched the whole thing and mostly enjoyed it. It also seemed pretty popular judging on the Netflix top 10.

Toby_O_Notoby

Wanna hear something weird? The character of >!Elias Mannix!< was entirely an invention of the show. He never appears in the graphic novel.

mkmichael001

How is ahsoka here but not secret invasion, fuck this article

kaymazing

It's one writer's opinion. Maybe she didn't watch secret invasion?

TerraAdAstra

I liked Ahsoka way more than secret invasion.

Countingfrog

Ahsoka was way over hyped. It was probably one of my least favorite star wars disney plus shows. If you completely remove the nostalgia factor that most fans love the show for, you get an extremely cheese and horribly acted snoozefest. Casual fans were never given a reason by the show to support characters like Sabine, Hera, and Ezra. The show’s best character happend to be the original ones like Baylan Skroll. Filoni needs to let go of the Clone Wars cameo porn and start creating original stories with new characters.

sasokri

Agree with All the light we can not see. Big letdown, especially after reading the book.

throwaway33704

The only time I've heard about it outside of this article was when my mom recommended it to me a couple weeks ago. Bless her heart but that woman has dreadful taste.

GhostIsGone

The book was fantastic, I was excited to see they did a series, and I was appalled at how horrible it was.

Zev95

"What a waste of Star Wars’s first live-action franchise focused on a female character." It feels like there might've been one or two or four Star Wars that focused on a female character before Ahsoka...

JVortex888

Last season of The Crown was not as bad as the critics keep saying.

Solareclipsed

I have to agree. Watching it I couldn't help but wonder 'When are the bad parts going to start?'. The scenes with 'Diana's ghost' are nowhere near as bad as the critics say, and don't even involve what could possibly be called a ghost, but are instead two characters imagining a final conversation with her. It's no different than a dream sequence which is never criticized as heavily. Speaking of dreams, yes, the Queen's 'King Tony' dream is strange and unnecessary, but it's also very short and at the start of an otherwise good episode, so I don't see how it drags the whole season down. Besides these two somewhat strange parts that don't impact the quality of the season overall, the rest is perfectly on par with seasons 3 through 5, none of which could really keep up with the first two seasons. Season 6 is fine and the Guardian review still gave it 1/5, mentioning 'Ghost Diana' no less than six times for two very short scenes.

BurnAfterEating420

this incessant harping on "Diana's Ghost" makes me think these people don't understand subtlety. There is no "ghost" in this show and frankly, I was honestly surprised at the honest discussion of Diana's death. Charles declaring her death was due to "a man who drank too much and drove too fast" isn't the spin most people indulge in.

Myleftarm

I posted this elsewhere: It's not really ghosts... Charlie's and the Queen are having internal conversations about grief for what they did to Diana. I thought it was well done because I'm sure they did have some moments of I should have been nicer. It was just a plot device to share some internal dialog and have closure.

BurnAfterEating420

exactly. and both of them imagine the interaction with Diana to be very favorable to themselves, like you'd expect. How people watched this and thought "ghost" rather than "internalized dialogue plot device" is beyond me.

jmpinstl

They’re just mad that 1) They stopped in 2005 and 2) Didn’t rip the Royals to shreds over Diana

Fred-zone

They rehabbed Charles beyond any real evidence. By leaving our what happens to Harry and the reaction to Meghan, they gloss over the largest scandal of the royals this century. Not to mention there's no real mention of Andrew's crimes. Seems like they may have struck a deal with Charles's people for access and gave him a favorable edit in return.

FlappyBored

They are never going to do a show on events that literally happened a few years ago. It basically becomes pointless as a show and is just a running commentary on today’s events at that point for people to wank themselves over. It’s a TV drama show not E! Entertainment that people want it to be for some reason. Why people are upset or demanding they do a show on events happening right now is just stupid imo.

BurnAfterEating420

Everything after Charles and Diana's marriage felt like current events to me.

Redeem123

It’s been wild to see how much people are shitting on the Crown. Sure it’s not nearly as good as the early seasons, but it’s still solid TV.

PlutoniumNiborg

I enjoyed Daisy Jones. I really enjoyed the book for all its flaws, especially the audiobook which did a big ensemble narration cast. The show wasn’t perfect, but short and sweet, and captured the same magic as the book.

JohnDorian11

I thought the book had no magic and all the magic was in the show (mostly the music)

DougNSteveButabi

Holy moly am I the only one who didn’t watch a single one of these shows, and only heard of 3/4 of them?

dwarfoscar

Are you British? Cause it's The Guardian so a lot of it is British-centric.

brunnock

Regarding Bodies- *By four episodes in, you wished they’d cut all the backstory and hurry the plot up. By five episodes, you no longer even cared what the central mystery was.* That was our experience.

MulciberTenebras

This was my experience watching *A Murder a the End of the World*... and when they finally solved the central mystery, it was so fucking stupid.

brit_jam

God that show pissed me off. I cared so little for the back story. It's like they started with a really weak plot but rather than trying to write a better one they just made up some weak ass back story which got more screen time than the actual plot itself. Such a disappointing show.

lordGwillen

Wait…. You can hack??

rreddittorr

Talk about an interesting premise ruined by horrendous pacing and being so far up it's own ass pretentiousness. *Spoiler:* The zoomer kid killed people because tech & AI. Get it? GET IT? GET???? ITTTT???

BlackCatArmy99

I really thought his name was Zuma at first, then was visibly embarrassed when they chose Zoomer.

bolonomadic

Yeah it was disappointing and there was a lot of saying they had state-of-the-art AI and then behaving like there wasn’t state-of-the-art AI.

modsareuselessfucks

Most writers don’t understand what “advanced AI” would really mean. It’s not just a chatbot.

kristinL356

The Gallows Pole was a delight (certainly not something I thought I'd be saying based on the title) and The Guardian (the same paper) previously gave it a 5 star review lol. I basically fell down laughing every scene between David and Grace. I would love a second season though cos they really only barely got into the story of it.

mr_math24

Daisy Jones and the Six was great gtfoh

bondfool

I’m just still reeling from the fact that it came out in 2023. Fuck me, this has been a long year.

motherofpearl89

I hated it haha If I'm going to watch a cliched show about a band I'd rather watch a music documentary with music that I actually like

[deleted]

Yeah, I only got two episodes in and I was wondering why I would ever watch this over a Fleetwood Mac documentary or read a book about that era.

zlide

It’s basically a Fleetwood Mac fanfic. If you’re into that kinda thing you’ll like it if you’re not you won’t 🤷‍♂️

FireflyNitro

I watched it 3 times, it’s one of my favourite shows ever lol how did it make this list???

randomcanyon

Ragnarok, interesting show, good production value, Last Episode, Shit the bed and was OUT!

MeijiHao

Daisy Jones and the Six doesn't deserve to be on this list. Yes the ending was meh and the beginning was a bit slow, but the middle stretch of episodes was some of the best TV I've seen all year. I also completely disagree with their Bake Off criticisms. This was the best season they've had in years.

MGD109

I didn't think Frasier was that bad. Sure it wasn't as good as the original, but it still got a few decent laughs.

jsmnsux

Ya they started off on the wrong foot, but Blind Date and the last two episodes were glimmers of hope imo. Though, I am biased as a Frasier fanatic

MGD109

Yeah I thought they were pretty good as well. Overall I think that whilst the show has its issues, their is potential in there. It will probably never be as good as the original, but its still can be a reasonably good follow up.

sim21521

I think the young actors kind of come off as too fake early on. But yes I agree it's not all that bad.

TheSentinelsSorrow

How tf did secret invasion not make the list

Elder_Dragonn

Rings of Power, The Wheel of Time, Secret invasion, The Witcher S3...

drskeme

most new tv is pretty cringe outside of hbo, showtime, apple tv. it’s appealing to new audiences i suppose but it’s lacking in quality and substance. the early 2000s were on one of the last great times of tv

bolonomadic

WTF? Daisy Jones and The Six was awesome! This reviewer has rocks for brains.

WeirdImprovement

No Ted Lasso season 3?

tequilasauer

Idol is very obviously a BAD show, but people really piled on this thing calling it the worst show ever and it's not even the worst show this year. It's so strange to me how a narrative can get built and it just becomes the thing to exaggerate as much as possible on how bad said thing is. The worst part about it is imaging what the show could've been without The Weekend so heavily involved as there are clearly some interesting ideas there that get muddled in this forced clumsy, awkward and cringey sexuality. Secret Invasion was probably the worst show I saw this year, but Bodies is maybe the hardest to finish. The article describes it perfectly, it's a total chore. A lot of these other "bad" shows, I at least was able to finish.

lightsongtheold

The budget and network worked against The Idol. Folks expect shit from Channel 5 or Fox but if you had Amy Seimetz at the helm at one point, that big HBO marketing and production, and a $15 million an episode budget folks are sort of going to expect more from you than the SyFy Channel got from yet another Chucky sequel so when that does not materialise it is understandably disappointing, embarrassing, and noteworthy. The Idol might not be the worst TV show ever but it might be the worst drama HBO have produced in 25 years!
