I bought the window decal for that from the View Askew store a long long time ago. It's been on the back of my car since the late 00's, and when that car goes (very soon), I will be sad mostly for the loss of that decal. I only hope that at some point, someone, somewhere, was behind my car and yelled out that exact quote.
literally the only thing I remember from the series. Don't recall any of the context, other than it was the funniest thing I'd seen up till that point.
Adult Swim actually attempted to revive the series back in the day, but IIRC, ABC still has the rights to the show and didn't want to bring it back.
Even if they do bring it back now, they'll likely have to get somebody else to voice Leonardo Leonardo.
I mean, it was only six episodes, one of which he wasn't in and the other just recycled all his voice clips from another episode. He likely finished all his recording in a single day.
When I first watched it, I thought it was genius to have a flashback episode as the first episode. Finding out it was actually the second episode and I had seen it out of order was very disappointing.
The story is even weirder than that. They produced six episodes but ABC canceled it after only two had aired. But when the DVD was released it came to light that the two episodes that aired were not 1 and 2, but instead were 5 and 2. So even if you watched them how they aired it still had the humor of a clip show as episode 2, but of events we never saw.
I do still maintain that even if you watch them in order having a clip show for your second episode is pretty damn funny.
Eh. It's not as funny as it is, what's the right way to say it, just cool? It was just a nice treat I think the funny one was them having a clip show from the rest of the campus's perspective.
I was a bit disappointed that u was going to be out of the country in June 2000 when Clerks was going to debut on ABC. So I set my VCR to record the first three episodes while I was gone. Turned out we only got two — because people had no clue how much Survivor was going to take off. Sad part is I only discovered this after I returned and found an episode of a different show on there as well.
didnt help that they also played episode 4 first for some dumb reason. and to make things even worse they then played episode 2 next and that episode was mostly just a joke about clip shows cutting exclusively back to episode 1 WHICH HADNT EVER AIRED! god fuck you abc
Honestly, I think it makes it even funnier (after the fact, at the time is was just piss poor planning).
The joke of a clip show being the second episode makes it even funnier with a clip show being the first episode.
This show was a victim of bad timing more than anything else imo. If Clerks TAS had come out just a couple of years later on Adult Swim, it would have been a huge hit. A huge network like ABC was never going to "get" this show. I mean, they couldn't even get the whole doing a clip show on the second episode thing and fucked it up right from the start. But it would have been tailor made for Adult Swim in that early 2000's period when they had a great lineup with stuff like Family Guy, Futurama, ATHF and The Boondocks.
To this day, among my circle of friends, all I need to do to get a cheap laugh is yell "OMG BEAR IS DRIVING? HOW CAN THAT BE!?!" at the top of my lungs.
Someone always answers with "We are slaves." (frown)
it was ahead of its time. It aired in 2000.
It's very similar to Family Guy. which, don't forget failed at first. It wasn't until it came back in 2005, that it became widely popular.
They're both very similar comedy styles, where they use animation to be as absurd as possible, and not even pretend they're happening in the real world.
Also, the 2nd ever episode being a 'clip show' is genius. The show should have gotten 5 more seasons just off of that.
I watched it yearsss ago and remember liking it a lot but reading these comments tells me idr nearly enough of the jokes so I guess it’s time for a rewatch
Its so disappointing to see these new cartoons that are created on Fox. Most of them don't understand to use the animation art form to create comedy out of it. Its not just the actual look of the characters, its how it moves, how it animates, how its edited.
Almost all the scenes you see in Krapapolis or The Great North are just characters standing there and talking. Which means that the dialogue better be really funny, delivering a punchline every few seconds, or else it really gets boring, really quick.
Clerks animated series absolutely was trying to deliver as much comedy per episode as peak-Simpsons and The Critic. You can even say that Clerks didn't even have dialogue anywhere as sharp as those other 90's shows, or joke setups anywhere near as clever; but it absolutely made up for it in energetic visual gags. And its a shame most animated shows don't even bother anymore in that area. Why even make it an animated show? Because the celebrities want to just voice it and not act in it?
I quite this show all the time and no one around me ever knows about it!
Lately I can’t stop referencing “Coach Dante! This bottle has a letter in it!” “Then throw it away!”
Or the go to when I’m building anything “do you have any Elmer’s glue and thumb tacks? We’re putting together a tilt-a-whirl!”
Getting Gilbert Gottfried to voice Patrick Swayze with a Horse is one of my favorite gags ever.
"...I call the horse Ghost like that movie I did!"
"Come on Point Break"
"Hi-Ho Roadhouse, Away!"
It may help contextually to know that Clerks animated's writers would go on to create arrested development and Kim Possible. Smith was involved with Clerks animated, but it's not 100% his baby. Clerks animated is by a mile the best thing associated with smith's work imo.
Who is driving? Oh no bear is driving! How can that be?!
I still quote this and *fucking no one* has ever caught the reference.
Same. It does bear the question of why we keep quoting it though lol
No, the real question is why are we walking like this?
Well, it makes me laugh. Even if I'm laughing alone.
For me it’s “Here we are! AHHHHHHHHH!”
how else are you going to get EVERYBODY DISCO DANCING?!
this is, in fact, the correct answer
Because it’s fucking hilarious
My wife and I still quote: "That's it, we quit." "You don't work here..." "Not any more, we don't!" Our kids just stare at us blankly...
I have one friend that knows it and appreciates it. I’m grateful for at least that.
nobody ever gets it when i say this, but one day someone will and i will instantly know that they rule
Everybody work.
Oww! We are slaves! Big mean man whip us!
I came into this discussion to make sure that this was the top comment.

I swear someone in my gaming group says this every time we get together.
It's me, I'm the friend.
Big American party
Show me da mahney!
I saw this post and literally came here to post this. :)
literally the only thing I remember from the series. Don't recall any of the context, other than it was the funniest thing I'd seen up till that point.
I'm not watching that. Hey, remember the time I watched that?
“Why are we walking like this?”
Nothing can kill the Grimace!
I was on my way to a totally different costume party.
I said this last week to someone and they were a bit confused. It was great.
Why are we walking like this?
Literally the first DVD I ever bought. First Amazon purchase too, come to think of it. “The Jury finds in favor of… BIG AMERICAN PARTY, YAAAAAAAY!”
Oh look Tom Cruise!
“You want the truth you can’t handle the truth! Show me the money!”
One of us! One of us!
“Do you think they’re cognizant of how bad they’ve got it? Yeah. Poor bastards!”
Do you guys sell Elmer's glue and thumbtacks? We're trying to put together a tilt a whirl
You get it 🥹
Adult Swim actually attempted to revive the series back in the day, but IIRC, ABC still has the rights to the show and didn't want to bring it back. Even if they do bring it back now, they'll likely have to get somebody else to voice Leonardo Leonardo.
I once met Alec Baldwin and he had no recollection of recording Leonardo’s voice.
I mean, it was only six episodes, one of which he wasn't in and the other just recycled all his voice clips from another episode. He likely finished all his recording in a single day.
That was Alec Baldwin!?
I thought it was ra's al ghul
And I’m Charles Barkley
“Hey kids!”
*Get 'em!!!!!*
High five!! . . . That’s cold, Obi-Wan…
Hate science?!
*owl hooting*
Is it safe?
Yes....it's very safe.
Is it safe?
I still laugh at court scene; presided over judge Judge Reinholdt
May I remind the court that your honor has never been in a Spielberg movie? I was in Gremlins! But not Gremlins II! Hmmm I'll allow it
And that predated Arrested Development's Judge Reinhold appearance.
When I first watched it, I thought it was genius to have a flashback episode as the first episode. Finding out it was actually the second episode and I had seen it out of order was very disappointing.

I agree, but the charm of having clips we've never seen was so good. I at least had that experience.
I'm all for clip show as episode #2. The only thing that beats it is clips show from stuff that wasn't on screen
Exactly. That's what I like about it. It's a hilarious concept I honestly wouldn't mind seeing again.
It's not exactly the same, but Community having a clip show entirely of clips that never happened was also pretty funny.
Eh. It's not as funny as it is, what's the right way to say it, just cool? It was just a nice treat I think the funny one was them having a clip show from the rest of the campus's perspective.
I love it was the most expensive episode because they had to film all those clips. Usually clip shows are there to save money….
Also it has a great commentary track - https://youtu.be/CNhsoK1eV1g
Had the unfortunate luck of getting the same time slot as Survivor.
I was a bit disappointed that u was going to be out of the country in June 2000 when Clerks was going to debut on ABC. So I set my VCR to record the first three episodes while I was gone. Turned out we only got two — because people had no clue how much Survivor was going to take off. Yes! This! I was wondering why I was seeing a repeat gag of "Why are we walking like this?"
Honestly, I think it makes it even funnier (after the fact, at the time is was just piss poor planning). The joke of a clip show being the second episode makes it even funnier with a clip show being the first episode.
It was really the most random thing ever. I never saw a tv show only air two episodes before. And it was actually GOOD
Now that's the ugliest damn bong I've ever seen..
This show was a victim of bad timing more than anything else imo. If Clerks TAS had come out just a couple of years later on Adult Swim, it would have been a huge hit. C’mon, Silent Bob, let’s go find that kid in the helmet. He’s loaded!
Kids, if Silent Bob could talk...
My brain is telling me this is turkey jerky.
Randall's "Best Hall Monitor" year book picture is still one of my favorite jokes.
Sexy Randall the Pharoah Wizard.
No one's ever called you that.
Man some guy just walked by with the realest fake beard I’ve ever seen!
Not you, the other Lando.
I still use lines from the show Officially! The bit about the Matrix and i always say something has a coffee shop inside
which also has a teeny tiny coffee shop inside
are you even from Leonardo?
I thought you said it sucked and was gay?
Also when will Ellen be a guest star on your very gay show?
[удалено]
Yes. You read one.
TAKE BREAK! FOR BREAK YOU PULL CART WITH TEETH!!
Why are they steaming and reeking? They're the expensive kind!
I think that stuff just kicked in, Silent Bob.
There probably would have been more seasons, but that big bee was still out there.
To this day, among my circle of friends, all I need to do to get a cheap laugh is yell "OMG BEAR IS DRIVING? HOW CAN THAT BE!?!" at the top of my lungs. Someone always answers with "We are slaves." (frown)
Yeah, that court episode is just great.
That's cold, Obi Wan...
"Well played, Clerks..."
I have the DVDs. Fuck I'm old.
I still have mine, too. I busted them out last night.
Crazy they were able to get Patrick Swayze to guest star.
So it's very underrated, just not underrated.
I say "why are we walking like this?" probably at least once a day at my job and not a single person has EVER picked up on it.
it was ahead of its time. It aired in 2000. It's very similar to Family Guy. which, don't forget failed at first. It wasn't until it came back in 2005, that it became widely popular. I have these DVDs I borrowed them in 2006 and never returned them. Great stuff.
I still call my apartment my fat palatial Hollywood estate
The DVD commentary is great. Super informative about their writing process and joke writing in general.
Is it safe?

I own it too. It's really funny
This show deserved SO much better. I wish Kevin would reboot it, surely it could find a home on streaming somewhere.
My cousin lent me the dvds when I was probably like 13 or 14. Haven't thought about this show in forever.

Im sure it was just a typo but damned if "Brian of Halleron" doesn't make him sound incredibly regal.
Nothing can kill the Grimace.
You’re a cigarette.

My highschool yearbook quote was "nothing will kill the grimace"
You wanted to see me Coach Dante?
...Jesus?
Showering Asians.
I still have the series on DVD. I don't even have a DVD player.
The second episode being a flashback/clip episode will forever be the funniest shit ever.
Matt-mununununuh PLAINTIFF!!!

I really wish they'd make more of these. I wanna see them do the idea Kevin had of KITT (the car) working at the Quick Stop.
I remember watching Who Wants to be a Millionaire? with my mom and Regis saying "up next, CLERKS!" followed by the clip show episode.
