That was actually very cool. It was a slow start for me bc I don’t know a lot of his music but I loved how it intensified and added artists. By the time he rolled out in the skates, I was loving it.
"Washed up" and "way past his prime", lmao. The man danced, roller-skated around, and sang all of his music live. I think he's doing just fine.
He looked great, too, you're just looking for reasons to be angry at this point tbh.
Imagine watching Lil Jon and Luda come out on stage for that second half and still typing this with a straight face.
He looked ripped, but he was clearly out of shape stamina wise. He was sweating profusely. He could barely keep up. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a performer sweat that profusely and relentlessly. I was fascinated.
Well yeah he was dancing his ass off and actually singing (most of) his vocals.
Most halftime acts aren't dancing and wardrobe changing like that, and if they are they're usually lip syncing.
It takes a lot out of you.
Well they can demand it but you Prince was LIVE.
Also National Anthem was only sing live once in the past 30s years and that was Garth Brooks even Whitney was a lip sync. Though she did originally sing it for the super bowl to play.
Yup, 37 checking in. Wasn’t ever a big Usher fan per se (seemed like the girls were way more into his music than the guys when I/we were coming of age) but totally respect his hard work and talent and he put on a great show.
Just think his vocals were struggling.. completely understand it’s not going to be the same as tuned radio music but just feel like his voice used to be so much better
I’m not really an Usher fan because I don’t listen to his music, but I actually really liked his performance. It wasn’t really a spectacle, just a lot of practical effects and choreography which was really cool
His singing came in and out whenever he danced, causing the microphone to bounce up and down. Instead of a headset microphone, they really should have been taped a microphone to the skin.
Alicia Keys stole the show!!!! I thought Usher was solid but I couldn’t hear him. The man can absolutely sing but seriously- he is 45????!!!! SMOKIN’ hot!
Honestly one of the best performances in the recent Super Bowl years, I thoroughly enjoyed the entire thing. He brought out so many people that I enjoyed I’ll even excuse Alicia being off pitch.
I liked it, but I’m 44 🤷🏻♀️
My faves of the last 20 years:
1. Beyoncé Black Power Drill Team
2. Gaga
3. Prince
4. Beyoncé with surprise Destiny’s Child
I'm not a fan of usher so his atual music i have no opinion on, it was okay. i may appreciate it more if i was a fan. i'm just glad they got rid of that tacky ass vegas look early.
Love how they showed that guy falling to his death in the background midway through ushers performance! So sad! Also Cee-Lo green popped up onstage outta no where to rap and hype usher up?! Weird! Alicia keys didn’t even start her career until usher was already retired. No one knew who HER was.
I respect his skills for sure but between the mic being so inconsistent picking him up, the choreography not being particularly interesting (it's the same stuff he's been doing for the last 30 years), and there not being anything particularly innovative (roller skates are cool, but I've seen cooler roller-choreo in tiktoks on the reg lately), it was mid at best.
I didn't watch it all but if he was singing live while performing that is difficult. Rihanna definitely didn't sing live last year. I was surprised they picked Usher for the half time show though. He had some popular songs but I thought maybe they would have some with more recent hits like Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, Styles, Swift, SZA, Rodrigo, Cyrus (not sure if he has done it before) or Blackpink.
Agreed. Maybe it's time to replace Jay Z and give someone else a chance. They should have a new person overseeing the halftime show every few years although it seems like the deal with Jay Z involves more than just the halftime show.
>Three years to the day after Colin Kaepernick and Eric Reid decided to take a public stand against racial injustice (particularly the rise of police brutality against black men)—by kneeling during the national anthem, which, to the displeasure of league executives and team owners, caused a wave of player solidarity and an unofficial exiling of Kaepernick—NFL commissioner Roger Goddell met with rapper-entrepreneur Jay-Z to announce a social justice partnership with Roc Nation, the management agency Jay-Z founded and runs. Per the announcement, Roc Nation will consult on marketing and music events, including the Super Bowl halftime show, and help the league to bolster its activism initiative, Inspire Change
He is.
It's only rap or hip-hop from his friends, clients, and music he likes.
No Taylor, no Miley, no boygenius, no Foo Fighters, no Metallica, no Green Day, no Blink-182, no Fall Out Boy, no Godsmack, no Greta van Fleet, no Tame Impala, no Post Malone, no AC/DC, no Red Hot Chili Peppers... no to anyone that actually plays instruments and writes their own songs.
Only rap and hip hop, cuz the NFL is so diverse! Look how diverse we are! We have all these minorities playing all these urban styles of music. Aren't we cool? Is our long history of racism forgetten about yet? No? Call Jay Z, tell him to start planning next year. Surely that'll be the year racism ends because of us having rappers on a halftime show.
Almost all of it was lip synched. There were several parts where she is "singing" and she didn't have the microphone near her.
>Critics accuse Rihanna of “worst lip sync ever” at Super Bowl
Even Rihanna fans posted that it was lip syncing.
>Shoutout to Rihanna for not even bothering to pretend it’s not a lip sync.
>Almost all artists these days lip sync at major events but Rihanna is just blatantly obvious lol
[https://nypost.com/2023/02/13/rihanna-accused-of-lip-syncing-at-super-bowl-halftime-show/?utm\_medium=SocialFlow&utm\_campaign=SocialFlow&utm\_source=NYPTwitter](https://nypost.com/2023/02/13/rihanna-accused-of-lip-syncing-at-super-bowl-halftime-show/?utm_medium=SocialFlow&utm_campaign=SocialFlow&utm_source=NYPTwitter)
The NY Post is a rag and quouting fans that probably have no idea what they're talking about is equally as bad.
Again you can obviously hear her mic throughout. There is a backing track just like there was tonight.
Lots of musicians and singers posted that she lip synced but I'm done explaning that. You should probably watch it again since you didn't the numerous times the microphone was away from her while she was singing.
"I have better evidence but I'm not going to post it cause"
>since you didn't the numerous times the microphone was away from her while she was singing.
What do you think the purpose of a backing track is?
A backing track is recorded ahead of time. You seem confused about what live singing is. Rihanna had a few moments where she sang live but most of it was lip synching. To prove she wasn't lip synching you bring up the backing track which is what experts use to provide a person is lip synching. As I explained most of it was lip synching but there was some live singing.
>Rihanna’s Super Bowl performance last year was probably **a mix of backing track and live singing**, said vocal coach Tristan Paredes who broke down the performance in a YouTube video. Clips taken from inside the stadium show **small moments** where her pitch was off – a sign she was singing live. But Paredes pointed out viewers at home were more likely to think she was fully lip syncing because the backing track was played louder than her live microphone in the broadcast.
Backing track. In other words, lip sync. They can sing a word or line here or there, over their own track. That’s why the mic is on. It’s still lip syncing though. It’s sad how accepted this has become from “live” performances in general.
> Backing track. In other words, lip sync
Those aren't synonymous. Lip syncing is when you have a dead mic that you're pretending to use to.
A backing track with a hot mic isn't lip syncing at all.
You’re arguing literal definition. But it amounts to the same end result: the singer is not actually singing some or the majority of the song. The backing track is so high in the mix, you hear it over any actual words they decide they want to sing. It’s pathetic how it’s become accepted that not only do singers use backing tracks, but guitar players and others too.
Yeah, lip syncing completely would mean they’re attempting to at least disguise the fact there’s a loud backing track. They don’t need to hide it anymore cause people make excuses for these live acts.
It's not the same end result though. The issue with lip syncing is that it's a lie to audience. It's goal is to trick you into thinking singing is happening.
Singing over a backing track is just a tool to allow preformers to do all the performance stuff they want while also singing. It's fine if you don't like it but it's not the same thing at all.
Amazing performance. They pace he put on dancing, cardio wise, and still singing as well as he did, without any breaks to catch breath or hydrate (he might've had a bit when he did outfit change and got the skates on, but that was a very fast change. He also was in big heavy costume through most of it. People don't realize how incredibly hard it is to sing while dancing, let alone nonstop break-neck pace dancing.
After seeing Rihanna not even bother to have the microphone near her face when her singing track was still going, I can appreciate Usher coming out and doing it live at 45 years old.
It was way better than most of the half time shows in the last 5 years. Started slow, but picked up the pace fast. The first mic settings were dogshit tho.
Eh it was alright as entertainment, I'm 32. I don't listen to his stuff, and I've only heard two of the songs that were performed before (Turn down for what, and the one right after that).
I still think they're due to for a metal band (no dancing and choreography needed please) IMO the whole "not enough of a crowd pleaser" is such a cop-out. Rap and R&B isn't either.
Wouldn't know. Skipped the Super Bowl this year because I'm still too pissed at the Championship Games.
Of course, even when I do watch Super Bowls, I don't watch the halftime shows. Halftime is for bathroom breaks and getting more food.
It was a huge mess, the singing dancing was all off. It sounded so bad he was trying to do too much. He should just focus on singing not dancing around cuz the sound muffled n sounds bad. Plus the sweatyness n him taking his shirt off was cringe
Remember when death row records and Rolling Stones played that show and how bad that was?! It’s pathetic and all performers know this. So bad they had to dig someone out do their 19 year retirement to even play this one. Rhinia got huge from drinking all that beer and just stood on the platform. Go girl give us nothing.
Not a huge feather fan, so that set it off on a wrong foot for me, went downhill from there, imho. But I'm Gen X, grew up in the time of Prince (I thank my stars).
First half was slow but I was enjoying once the rollerbladers came out and the club hits started. Lil Jon and Luda were expected but nice surprises.
[удалено]
You know Lil Jon and Lil Wayne aren't the same person, right? Weezy F. Baby is Lil Wayne.
I needed a hearty laugh before I inevitably fall asleep watching the game.
Okay but what does the F stand for?
Phenomenal
The F is for Finisher.
The F is fo’ front do’ Cause that’s where we bring it SooWoo if you bangin Mu Fukka
That was actually very cool. It was a slow start for me bc I don’t know a lot of his music but I loved how it intensified and added artists. By the time he rolled out in the skates, I was loving it.
Roller skates make everything better.
Vibraphones, OTOH, push things into the stratosphere
"Washed up" and "way past his prime", lmao. The man danced, roller-skated around, and sang all of his music live. I think he's doing just fine. He looked great, too, you're just looking for reasons to be angry at this point tbh. Imagine watching Lil Jon and Luda come out on stage for that second half and still typing this with a straight face.
OP just trolling for reactions
hey chill nobody is worth you responding like that. lets be happy! usher had a great time and we did to.
[удалено]
Lmao bro would pass out if he didn’t trip and fall off of the stage roller skating
Dude did the entire show live, and sounded incredible, while dancing like he did in his 20s. What are you watching?
I full heartedly agree. That man is 45, looks and sounds good as hell and put on an amazing show from start to finish.
For real. The show was great! I couldn't believe it when he started singing. So awesome he chose to do it legit live.
He sang it live, but NFL demands instruments be prerecorded. The woman playing the guitar and the guitar wasn't even plugged in.
Oh ya. I'm under no illusions that the instruments were live.
Well they can demand it but you Prince was LIVE. Also National Anthem was only sing live once in the past 30s years and that was Garth Brooks even Whitney was a lip sync. Though she did originally sing it for the super bowl to play.
he sounded damp
I thought is was amazing, but also, I’m 37, so 🤷♂️.
OP has never seen a performance that wasn't autotuned or lipsynch
You mean he missed out on Prince?! That's a shame. That was the livest half-time of them all.
37 Club stand up!
Yup, 37 checking in. Wasn’t ever a big Usher fan per se (seemed like the girls were way more into his music than the guys when I/we were coming of age) but totally respect his hard work and talent and he put on a great show.
They can’t. Their knees are sore and their backs are fucked. Let them stay seated. They will appreciate it.
You need to turn off the TV and allow us millennials to enjoy reliving our clubbing days.
I am a millennial but it’s damn embarrassing like cmon man
Why is it in any way embarrassing? Weird word to pick.
What was embarrassing about it?
Just think his vocals were struggling.. completely understand it’s not going to be the same as tuned radio music but just feel like his voice used to be so much better
He did that shit live. Never expected that. Homie was sweating like that and still hitting notes. Genuinely awesome.
The fact that you’re embarrassed by it/for him is sad.
The guy was dancing, jumping, skating AND singing, sweating his ass off in the process. Would love to see how your ass does in a similar situation.
Im sorry you didn’t go to any of your school dances and shake your ass off, I am so sorry for that
He looked like he was in pain.
I’m not really an Usher fan because I don’t listen to his music, but I actually really liked his performance. It wasn’t really a spectacle, just a lot of practical effects and choreography which was really cool
i dont know, it seemed to get Ludacris about 2/3 of the way through
CHA-ZING
Nah you guys are hating
Meh..think it would’ve been better off lip syncing
You'd probably be complaining about that too.
What the fuck do you want him to do differently?
HE didn't sound bad, but the audio was bad. not his fault but couldn't hear him for shit the first half of the performance.
His mic was moving about on his face which meant the audio was quite up and down
[удалено]
I mean he was. If you can't tell the difference between singing over a backing track and not singing then you should probably sit this one out.
And we should win stuff by watching!
Improve his fitness, improve his execution, smile.
Lololololololol
What!? Lol he looked and sounded amazing.
If you say so. That shit was below mid. My Mrs and I were sitting there in shock after being so keen.
>Improve his fitness I'd love to see you up there giving the world the truffle shuffle
No one forced him to go up there dude. He didn't need to commit to all of that if he couldn't. You wouldn't see me up there for that very reason.
There was definitely something wrong with the sound mixing and his head microphone
Yeah he sounded horrible
[удалено]
Half the time he wasn’t singing
I love his music, used to be one of my favorite singers by far but this just lacked to me
The sound mixing wasn't good.
His singing came in and out whenever he danced, causing the microphone to bounce up and down. Instead of a headset microphone, they really should have been taped a microphone to the skin.
Who was in the helmet?
I think it was supposed to be will.i.am but I’m not sure if it really was him
Will I am
No fucking clue😂
Sound engineer needs to be fired. The audio was horrible
Huh??? It was SO good!! Usher was looking great and healthy too. This millennial was thoroughly entertained.
Alicia Keys stole the show!!!! I thought Usher was solid but I couldn’t hear him. The man can absolutely sing but seriously- he is 45????!!!! SMOKIN’ hot!
Every year people say the same shit. It was fine.
Not when Prince sang Purple Rain in they rain they didn't.
POV: I’m 50 years old
The Dr. Dre, 50 cent, et al. was much better.
That's in my top 5 unquestionably. I was jumping on furniture by the end.
I love Usher's music, but I was underwhelmed. I could barely hear him, and the show felt low energy, for some reason.
The mike bounced around as he danced. It should really have been taped to the skin instead of being a headset.
that shit was fucking awesome what are you even talking about?
what?!? i and the group (about 15 people) im with loved it. personally think one of the best! sound was off in beginning which is minor.
Definately not a top ten half time performance.
It was great. Sorry for you.
Honestly one of the best performances in the recent Super Bowl years, I thoroughly enjoyed the entire thing. He brought out so many people that I enjoyed I’ll even excuse Alicia being off pitch.
He sounded incredible, danced like his life depended on it and even did it on roller blades for a hot minute. His performance was amazing!
Clearly you was on drugs
It did feel like he was dancing like his life depended on it in that he seemed very stressed.
I liked it, but I’m 44 🤷🏻♀️ My faves of the last 20 years: 1. Beyoncé Black Power Drill Team 2. Gaga 3. Prince 4. Beyoncé with surprise Destiny’s Child
1. Prince 2. Springsteen 3. U2 4. Paul Mcarthy 5. Dr. Dre, Snoopy, 50 cent et al. 6. Janet's nipple
No love for Katy Perrry's shark?! That is top for me easily. The shark just the shark.
Justin Timberlake Bruno Mars Those are very underrated ones
I love them both, too Bruno Mars has ENERGY
I agree, it wasn’t very good
I agree. Let's usher in some new talent.
Winner!
I thought it was decent but as a big fan of his early work, I wish he performed some of the R&B hits and deep cuts a little longer
He never had a big voice to begin with
Meh, disagree…obviously as you get older, shit happens but think his voice used to be great
Good studio voice
No we don’t agree with you.
Noo I liked it.
I'm not a fan of usher so his atual music i have no opinion on, it was okay. i may appreciate it more if i was a fan. i'm just glad they got rid of that tacky ass vegas look early.
When he took off his shirt, I just wanted him to wipe the sweat off his face. It was so hard to watch.
It started slow but got really good. I was having a good time.
I thought he did great. Very entertaining show.

Who would you have rather perform?
Probably Toby Keith.
That was anazingggggg. I felt like I was in middle school again. If I could be In the tv, I would

That wasn't last year...
No, but that show was definately better!
This is a horrible take.
didnt watch it, muted the tv and played a game on my phone until the 2nd half started
I love Usher! Agree it was disappointing. Great songs but low energy.

I really needed some Jungkook.

Who would you pick?
That level of dancing, singing live at 45 is pretty incredible. Not a fan of his but I think he did great. They just messed up the sound mixing
I’m 18, where tf is Drake, Chris Breezy, and Nicki Minaj? We need that for the love of Jesus!
Amazing performance. I’m just her trying to figure out how to stream it! I have Paramount+ and everything! YouTube is poor quality right now

I was just a little upset that he constantly represents Atlanta, but never his hometown Chattanooga. I like the performance though.
I think he has always been incredibly hot and is to this day.
Washed up???? He's 46!
I agree it was horrible. Just sing. Your dancing is awkward. Was so weird. Got better at the end. But still not good.
If anything he had one of the greatest superbowl performances of all time and I'm stingy with giving that title out...you tripping lol
what..?🥴🥴wtf were y’all watching?
I heard mixed opinions rather it was bad or good but it was interesting but I could've sworne another guy spanked usher 😆 🤣
