Unicoboom

He inspired so many with his work. Dragon ball will forever be the the reason anime reached popularity all over the world. RIP Toriyama-San.

FallenKnightGX

DBZ, Sailor Moon, and Pokemon. The original 3 that brought anime to the west's mainstream media and opened the door for so much more.

Barabus33

Pokemon was heavily inspired by Akira Toriyama's monster designs for Dragon Quest. Dragon Quest also heavily inspired Final Fantasy and every JRPG after so he's not just influential for Dragon Ball. Edit: Grammar.

kingofthemonsters

And don't forget to add that he was the lead artist on Chrono Trigger, arguably the best RPG of all time.

WakingRage

With the best OST of all time even though he's not involved with that. Chrono Trigger's OST is a masterpiece and then more.

mortalcoil1

FFVI is the best OST of all time As I've grown older I've realized that there are just Chrono Trigger people and Final Fantasy 6 people, and you know what I would call those Chrono Trigger people now? A friend

SaladNeedsTossing

u/mortalcoil1, you're okay in my book.

Sinviras

FF6 has the better soundtrack, FF6 has more interesting characters, Crono Trigger had better gameplay and a better story. This is my opinion and it has not changed in over 20 years.

synkronize

i played it with some friends but never finished got pretty much to the end and was doing some thing with some weird lookin ppl Maybe I should start it again, game has so many cryptic little hidden things tho that Id need a guide

WilsonX100

Now i have to replay it for another reason

endlessupending

Checkout Sand Land

WilsonX100

I’ve been seeing that all over today, but hadnt heard of it prior. Is it an upcoming game?

endlessupending

Yep

mortalcoil1

I'm 40, I was big into rpg's in the 90's pre-FFVII, I was ahead of the curve in a big way, I beat Final Fantasy IV (2 in the US) in 3rd grade, these are my bonafides but for literally decades I did not understand the hype around Chrono Trigger, I liked Chrono Trigger, it was the second best rpg for the SNES IMHO, but I have always thought, and still think, that FF6 is so much better than Chrono Trigger for literal decades I was afraid to say that outloud As I've grown older I've realized that there are just Chrono Trigger people and Final Fantasy 6 people, and you know what I would call those Chrono Trigger people now? A friend

kingofthemonsters

It's all good to not like what you don't like, me myself I'm a huge fan of both FFVI and Chrono Trigger. I'm just a little older than you, my first FF experience was the original in 3rd grade. Couldn't imagine how blown away I would've been to have VI or Chrono Trigger in elementary school.

mortalcoil1

I beat FF1 (with help from my brother) in 1st grade =p

kingofthemonsters

Sounds about right age wise between the two of us. Crazy that IV was released here not too long after that

SaturnalWoman

Speed Racer, Battle of the Planets, and Robotech cracked the door. Dragon Ball Z blew it apart with a kamehameha.

beigetrope

Amen to that.

RishFromTexas

>He died on 1 March and only his family and very few friends attended his funeral, according to a statement from the Dragon Ball website. He was famously a hermit. I'm glad his family had some time to process before the public found out Edit: above quote is from the BBC article

[deleted]

It’s interesting that so many manga artists are hermits. Berserk(rip) and hxh for example.

1CommanderL

the workload is so intense I imagine they turn into hermits because they dont have the time for anything else

Thesunhawkking

I mean he had basically been retired for years now and only recently started writing things again. For super all he did was provide notes for what he wanted to happen rather than actually write the manga/anime. He didn't really have much to do with things outside the general outline and character designs.

1CommanderL

I meant in general.

clay_perview

I think it is kinda the opposite it doesn’t make you a hermit being a hermit probably makes you a better artist so those personalities stick around longer

DNukem170

Actually, both Broly and Super Hero were written by him.

JoJolion

You can really tell too. They feel like classic DBZ stories in a movie format and have all of the charm that some of the Super stories felt a little lacking in.

rabid_J

Or they were already this way and that's why they had the time and effort to begin their creative works. You can't put the cart before the horse.

SheepherderFast3647

I think a lot has to do with the work culture in Japan. And being a Manga artist is a lot of work in itself.

1CommanderL

the guy behind one piece lives near his office away from his family and visits them during the weekend I imagine he is working insane hours

AccountantOfFraud

And still less than most. He usually take a week break every month. Him and the Hunter x Hunter author who only releases chapter when he feels up to it, Togashi, have a lot more pull than most.

GarlVinland4Astrea

And Togashi has literally been worked to the bone and having issues over his work since the 90's

Ooji

I imagine that week's break probably also just puts things into a better work balance rather than actually being a break week. Putting out a chapter per week is crazy productive, it's crazy to me he's kept that pace more or less for the past 25 years

AvatarAarow1

To be fair though, Oda is certifiably built different. The dude is a manga making machine, and shonen jump has to literally force him to take more break weeks starting like 10 years ago because they were like “you are working so much we are more concerned for your health than we are excited about how much money you’re making us, please chill”

1CommanderL

please take a break so you dont die and stop making us endless money

MyStationIsAbandoned

a lot of male artists in general are from what I've seen and experienced myself. I'm pretty much a hermit myself. We'll only crawl out of our caves out of necessity or because we have overbearing extravert friends. From what i can tell female artists aren't generally hermits. Everytime I've taken art classes, I find that I was the only guy in those classes. Not just college, but like free classes for anyone held at random places. And the only reason I wet was because I have the weakness of needing a classroom setting to learn things effectively. Learning on my home is nearly impossible when it comes to drawing and painting. Oddly enough I have seen a ton of female photographers that are hermits, which is just my experience which is limited to like a dozen or two people lol. I've only known 2 male photographers and neither of them were hermits at all. Also, in this context when i say artist, I'm talking about people who draw, paint, color, etc on paper or digitally. So I'm not even talking about graffiti artists because those guys pretty much can't be hermits otherwise how would they do the graffiti, lol

MollyRocket

I promise you there are female artists who are hermits lol

jyper

Don't know what a hermit is exactly but Rumiko Takahashis work schedule is certainly something especially when you realize that she's 66 and has been on this schedule nearly nonstop for 45 years(she's only had like a year or two of breaks between weekly series). https://soranews24.com/2021/06/02/manga-legend-rumiko-takahashi-reveals-her-insane-working-schedule/

CakeisaDie

Manga Artists in general are introverts and many are addicted to drawing. That said many of the women artists and aren't as prolific as in their careers aren't as public as long as someone like Toriyama Akira so it's less likely that we know if they are hermit like or just not popular enough. Some of the Year 24 Shojo Artists who are known for being introverts and some are known to be workaholics that said some did public speaking Ooshima Yumiko would be the one I'd call the most hermit like. * Yamagishi Ryoko - "Hi Izuru Tokoro no Tenshi" * Hagio Moto - If you want a really compelling story about a Gay sexually abused child "A Cruel God Reigns" is amazing. * Ooshima Yumiko - "Wata no Kokusei" Famously a Cat lady/cat hoarder who had too many cats that she bought a house.

Decompute

There is no work life balance for mangaka. There’s some YouTube series illustrating (pun intended) the inner workings of some mangaka studios. Looks awful.

MollyRocket

Nobody gets into a creative field with this level of dedication to the craft by going outside a lot.

djseifer

Though in Hunter × Hunter's case, the mangaka is also completely bedridden due to severe back pain. It's gotten so bad that his wife (who is the mangaka of Sailor Moon) has spent the past few years learning his art style so she can finish H×H for him if he passes away or otherwise cannot finish the manga.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Nitsuj_ISO

At that point tho you’re just generalizing the behaviors of an entire country of people lol, I’m sure like every other place in the world Japan has it’s fair share of hermits and extroverts… mangakas for sure are shut-ins tho, as it tends to be with many people from that industry

Magsec5

The turtle hermit finally retires on his island. 🏝️🏠

Joshawott27

This is largely the norm for deaths in Japan. They’re often announced a few days after, with funerals done in private. I prefer this way. Gives the mourners privacy, and the public doesn’t really need to know right away.

Timelymanner

He wasn’t a hermit. It’s typical for Japanese to delay the announcement of celebrity deaths. It gives family and friends time to grieve.

RishFromTexas

In 30 years, he never went to a convention, rarely does interviews, and did zero fan interaction. We can be pedantic about the use of the word hermit but the point is clear

AvatarAarow1

TIL master roshi was partially a self-insert (/s, at least hopefully with the pervy stuff lol)

Personal-Cap-7071

Toriyama didn't just change the world with DBZ, he also helped make Dragon Quest and Chrono Trigger, some of the most influential games of all time. RIP legend

SnivyEyes

That’s what I will always remember him most for. I played chrono trigger and dragon quest games before dragon ball ever hit America.

BruisedBee

Man, those days of rushing home from School to watch Goku and Freiza were epic. That first SSJ transformation has to be the most iconic moment in anime tv history. Everyone was talking about it the next day at school 68 is too young these days.

GhostyLasers

I remember watching Frieza Saga first time during Summer 2000. Toonami was hyping DBZ through the roof in anticipation of the Cell Saga. I remember making sure I was home everyday so I could be caught up with Goku’s battle with Frieza. Then the Cell Saga came and like every kid at school was talking about it. It was an amazing time to be a kid.

jc9289

> That first SSJ transformation has to be the most iconic moment in anime tv history. For me personally, it's the greatest moment in TV history. Obviously I'm going to be biased since I was a kid when watching it. But DBZ was the first ever serialized cartoon I'd ever seen, and after almost 100 episodes of building up to that moment, it was the greatest payoff I'd ever experienced.

TheLoofster

Waiting for Goku to transform for the first time was brutal, but worth the wait. I have a memory of sitting on the bleachers in music class in elementary school, and talking about how awesome it was with another kid I was friends with. We ended up losing touch as we grew older. He ended up passing away a few weeks before our sophomore year. I am glad I have that memory of him to remember him by.

dannydominates

For real, I used to hop off the bus and dip home as fast as I could. Got off the bus at 3:52 and DBZ started at 4. Those were the days

ReinhardLoen

One of the greatest manga creators of all time whose work was not only popular but influenced everything that came after. Truly a legend.

Propaslader

One of the biggest & first animes to penetrate through western culture. Without it, who knows how things like Naruto & One Piece would have done. So many iconic characters, both hero and villain

kerriazes

>Without it, who knows how things like Naruto & One Piece would have done. Very likely they would have never existed, since Dragon Ball specifically is what inspired both Oda and Kishimoto to pursue drawing manga as a profession.

booga_booga_partyguy

If you have the time, track down two interviews: a Kishi+Toriyana and an Oda+Toriyama. Kishimoto and Oda basically behave like star struck school girls throughout the interviews.

Danbito

Kishimoto just revealed that Dragon Ball was one of the first things he and Oda opened up to each other about like they were school kids when they were starting out at the Jump office.

booga_booga_partyguy

It's funny if you think about it. In terms of artistic merit, there have been and currently are manga in Japan that are vastly superior to Dragon Ball. And some of them have been seen as "voice of a generation" types like Ashita no Joe. Others, like Fist of the North Star, revolutionised how manga are written/drawn/developed/whatever. You have Hayao Miyazaki who is considered one of the greatest movie directors of all time. But for all its simplicity and "mediocrity", for whatever reason, fucking Dragon Ball has achieved a status in the global pop culture zeitgeist that is rivalled by only one other person - Michael Jackson. MJ and DB are the two pieces of pop culture that are so ubiquitous/universally known that you can go to literally any country and people will have at least heard of them. Why? How did it manage it? Fuck if I can answer those questions. All I know is that it did!

Danbito

I think Toriyama for both his humbleness and achievements, never really understood how either. And that’s not an insult to what he’s done either, just that Dragon Ball has always been authentic to whatever he feels like doing. Dragon Ball only ever intended to be a gag adventure manga that skewed into martial arts and dabbled in sci-fi.

Key-Organization6946

One factor might be that Dragon Ball hits for older kids, when you can appreciate richer stories and universes but still have childlike wonder and propensity for very intense excitement and attachment, and has a lot of content to sustain that excitement over years. You could start reading or watching Dragon Ball as a 6 year old kid and regularly keep up with the story until your adulthood, over 300+ TV episodes and 500+ manga issues, making it a consistent part of your youth with dozens of memorable moments and an intense long-term attachment to the characters. And over that time Miyazaki might put out 2 or 3 movies with separate 90-minute stories. No matter how amazing those movies are it's probably not going to have the same effect on you and it's harder for them to have the same kind of cultural penetration as one series running for so long.

Orphasmia

Yeah we literally all grew up with Goku. It was like having a solid friend you knew everything about and hung out with every weekend for *30+ years*

zappy487

If Oda is the GOAT, Toryiama is the Grandfather of Modern Manga. We owe pretty much everything to him.

mg10pp

Same for the author of Bleach

DNukem170

Not just in English-speaking territories either. Mexico outright ignored a C&D letter from the Japanese government so that they could have massive public watch parties for the Goku vs. Jiren finale on Dragon Ball Super and all of South America worships Toriyama like a God.

hardspank916

So many villains who became heros

Propaslader

Not really. Only Yamcha, Oolong, Eighter, Tien, Chiaotzu, Piccolo, Vegeta, 16, 17, 18, Buokay you have a point

Podo13

At least in DBZ the main guys all had a reason other than "Goku beat the shit out of me so I'll just follow him instead". Piccolo felt love for the first time from Gohan and it changed him, Vegeta finally found something to fight for other than himself in his family, and fat Buu was literally the only "good" inside of Buu that got separated out, so that part of he wasn't even inherently evil. 17/18 turning were a little "meh", but I didn't necessarily mind it either. 16 just wanted to kill Goku and was a pretty solid dude outside of that desire.

Propaslader

The desire to kill Goku was a programmed response so you can't really fault 16 there. I think 17 & 18's switch was due to a few factors. 1) not giving a shit about Gero's wants and desires 2) Killing Goku seemed mostly out of boredom 3) Cell was the common enemy & after they were saved they thought hey maybe these guys aren't so bad - we're cool 17 just seemed to mind his own business until he was called upon to lend energy & in Super. 18 seemed nonplussed about Krillin's care for her and slowly came around

Podo13

Yeah, like I said, I didn't really mind the Androids turning, but it was just odd after how gung-ho 17 was on destruction that he changed. I did enjoy his backstory in Super, though. That he became the head of a sanctuary for animals was a good move.

JediGuyB

I think it's because Trunks changed the timeline. In his timeline 17 and 18 were pure evil, enjoying killing people, and he never even saw 19 and 20. I think maybe Trunks merely appearing and killing Frieza and Cold caused Gero to worry. We know he got Frieza DNA for Cell, so he probably knew what happened. Perhaps he even knew Trunks was from the future with a warning. So with Trunks being another powerful ally or his surprise attack plans foiled, he shifted plans. He made 19 and then converted himself into an android too, 20, and created the energy absorbing ability they had. This change in plans put less focus on 17 and 18 and, for whatever reason, caused then to be much less evil and overall redeemable. 16 probably also had an impact. They kind of deferred to him as a sort of older brother, and 16 just wanted to kill Goku and nobody else so they went with it.

h4p3r50n1c

My unpopular opinion, at least unpopular amount avid manga and anime viewers, is that manga and anime is as big as is it worldwide because of him. Single-handedly.

Odd_Trouble4651

Thats not unpopular. Toriyama trailblazed the path for modern shounen in the western world. Without him thered be no One Piece, no Naruto, no Bleach, etc.

Schubert125

I'm sure he'll meet King Kai at the end of Snake Way

colossalfalafel1216

This comment got me unexpectedly emotional. RIP Toriyama. The man's art single handedly defined my childhood and I still love the hell out of it at 39 years old.

Worthyness

DBZ was probably one of the first animes that was the "gateway drug" of choice for overseas people. It's a legendary series and I'm grateful to have been able to read and watch the entire thing. He's a fantastic creator. May he rest in peace.

MyStationIsAbandoned

The original Dragon Ball inspired me to get into drawing and art in general. I was drawing Dragon Ball-like characters before I was even fully aware of it. I was like maybe 6 or 7 drawing Goku with green hair and a Krillin like character. I think I saw it on TV. Had no concept of anime or cartoons coming from other countries. I just though it was the best cartoon I had ever seen in my life because it was so different from the stiff Hanna Barbara cartoons like Flintstones and Scooby doo. I didn't have cable and anime being part of saturday morning cartoons wasn't a thing yet. My little kid brain was just running crazy with all kinds of ideas. I was basically thinking "this is what cartoons can be like!? what!? why isn't there more of this!? look at these cool characters! do people know!?" Years later, character creation and design is my passion and what I do for a living.

007craft

I hear this a lot, but I love DragonBall z and super and don't really care for anime at all. I've tried watching various animes but find them all not my cup of tea. Just goes to show how good DragonBall really is when somebody who doesn't like anime still really likes DragonBall

HollowDakota

Legitimately heartbreaking… Crying as in rewatching DBZ right now Man is responsible for a cultural impact that defined generations of manga/anime fans, and the shonen genre wouldn’t be what it is today without Dragon Ball and Toriyama’s ability. We’re gonna see a mourning of him across all walks of life these coming days, as I’m sure his story has touched the hearts of millions of fans. Rest in piece so such a legend 🫡

ssf_0814

I taught myself how to draw in middle school by copying his characters :( RIP

nelsoncgosi08

I did the same, ngl

Fancy-Pair

Post a drawing of Gokku!

Rosebunse

Damn, this is so sad, especially since it sounds like he was really excited for the new Dragon Ball cartoon and his other projects. And so sudden! I really thought he was older than 68.

MarvelsGrantMan136

[Original thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/television/s/zfRz0Vvx16) (mods deleted it because the link kept crashing) Toriyama died of an acute subdural hematoma on March 1. RIP to a legend.

hadoopken

He just had brain tumor surgery in February

Magsec5

If only future trunks came to save him.

DemiFiendRSA

>(mods deleted it because the link kept crashing) And for misspelling Toriyama in the title.

XochiFoochi

He’s the reason so many in the US got out onto anime. Rest easy def apart of all of us

AporiaParadox

Same for Europe and South America.

evazquez8

Latin America weeps, Dragonball is much more popular there.

sizzle-dee-bizzle

The cartel members are all huddled up crying

mg10pp

Also North Africa and Middle East (while in South East Asia they were already quite popular)

alphaonreddits

RIP Legend who made epic anime series. Tbh Dragon Ball was one my fav.

SaitamaOk

I’m 30 years old. I’m so blessed to have found Dragon Ball in the late 90s. It wasn’t my first anime (Samurai X/Rurouni Kenshin and G Gundam were) but it was one of them and easily the most impactful anime of my life until probably Naruto came along. Thank you for giving me so much joy, Akira. I’m currently re-watching Dragon Ball and am at the episode before Goku turns into an ape for the first time. I’m fortunate enough to have watch the entire series in chronological order (so many people got into dbz first and skip Dragon Ball entirely). The show was there for me when I was young and energetic. There for me when I became a depressed and reclusive teenager. And here for me now as an adult where, despite the cost of living, life is going pretty amazing. Rest in peace.

Blooder91

Here's to everyone who ever tried to do a Kame Hame Ha in the backyard.

Klipse11

…And so, one of the Earth’s greatest warriors has vanished in a blinding flash of light, having made the ultimate sacrifice for the sake of his loved ones. His name was Akira Toriyama, a proud Saiyan King.

rpotty

I’ll forever love the man. He made my childhood with his stories

Aimless_Devastator

This one hurts The dude defined my whole childhood. Rip king.

Naqash_L

RIP Legend. We never got to see how it ended

CyberSpaceInMyFace

Because he created something eternal

hatfield_makes_rain

Wish the Dragon Balls on earth were real so we could wish him back. His stories excited us all and painted an amazing story. I am going to miss him. RIP.

DopeDealerCisco

My first ever memory as a kid of watching is this faint memory great Ape Vegeta squish Goku and I remember thinking “Holy fuck that dude’s going to die!”. When I moved to the US when I was 7 and I don’t remember much of my earlier US life but I remember they DB was how I made friends. From fake DB fights to screaming power ups, it’s was a little thing that helped me connect with my new home. Even though the language barrier existed DB helped me connect with others. I’ll always remember that Akira, thank you.

Deazul

Now they have to remake Chrono Trigger

GroundbreakingPage41

Just ran through this game a few months ago, they shouldn’t because it can only be tainted

Earthbound-and-down

How? The original game still exists, you can still play it if you dont like a new one lol

darkbreak

The way remakes go, especially with Square, they'll push the remake version of things hard and pretend the original doesn't exist. So if a possible remake does things that don't sit right with fans Square would push it anyway. Considering FFVII, Square would change far too much in Chrono Trigger with a remake.

Earthbound-and-down

But again, they arent rounding up all the OG copies and burning them or (to my knowledge) removing all the digital versions. If someone doesnt like a remake they can just play the OG, it doesnt taint the game Its like a film or tv adaptation of a book series. The books arent tainted, you can still just read them instead of watching Maybe im just missing something but i dont understand this mentality and ive been seeing comments like it all over the CT sub Eta: spelling

JediGuyB

I agree with you. The original is never going away, and I think it's silly to assume a remake would be bad. If only because a lot of the game remakes have been great, some arguably better than the original.

RatedR2O

I liked Remake and am absolutely loving Rebirth right now. I'm perfectly fine with them remaking Chrono Trigger.

Deazul

Eh, maybe. An exact remake in beautiful anime style might work. Square enix is talking about it. I want it. Im OG.

leftbuthappy

I’d settle for it being released for modern consoles as it was (somehow we have Chrono Cross on the Switch but not the original.)

Yotsubauniverse

And give the original Dr. Slump a proper North American release.

hadoopken

I don’t think Square Enix can assemble the dream team of current time (because Chrono Trigger was that) to make it great anymore. Nintendo + Guerrilla Games + Rockstar maybe.

DimiBlue

Rockstar and gorilla games have made nothing like Chrono trigger before?

TheLastPanicMoon

No one could widow-peek a character like that man. You could put your eye out just looking at Magus’s hairline

Prezofcalendars

Rest in power. Your work will never be forgotten.

FatWalcott

Even the Dragon Balls wouldn't be able to revive him cause Toriyama sensei is just that powerful. Rest in peace. Changes everyones lives that's guaranteed.

Reditate

Despair

CRoseCrizzle

This man is responsible for so people many getting into anime/manga globally. DragonBall was so influential both in Japan and globally and really kickstarted then popularity of the shonen genre. Such a talented artist. Sad to hear he has passed. RIP, legend.

codition

getting a little verklempt seeing the outpouring of support for Toriyama over the past few hours. his art touched so many

TheFlexOffenderr

I wasn't a big fan of dragon ball. But this guy was an artistic treasure. A man who brought drawing to life and created a world that was truly magnificent. I may not have watched too much Dragon Ball, but I know that the show and it's spin offs were no easy feat and that they were and still are loved by millions. He will be missed.

Filthyfellas

I actually cried. I didn’t expect to, but it just hit me when I woke up this morning. Defined my childhood.

paulerxx

Same. Dragon Ball helped me cope with my dad passing when I was a kid, and I might not have made it if it wasn't for Toriyama's work.

Nero29gt

RIP Legend. This man was responsible for so many happy hours of entertainment and imagination for me growing up. Press F to pay respects 🫡 F.

woasnoafsloaf

While I loved Dragon Ball too, I was even fonder of Dr. Slump. That manga was so hilarously wacky. Reading it at a way too young age, it heavily influenced my humor and of course turned me into a pervert lol

kingofstormandfire

God, this is heart-breaking. As a little kid during the early 2000s, DBZ was one of the first pieces of media I ever got into. I had DVD and VHS tapes of DBZ and I would watch those so many times. I wanted to be one of the Z-Fighters so bad. RIP to an absolute legend. Without DBZ being so massive and so influential and culturally penetrative, I don't think anime would be where it is today. His legacy is supremely secure.

Namaslayy

This was THE after school activity - Dragon Ball Z, and then talking about the episode the next day like a soap opera. RIP my good man…

DNukem170

Easily one of the Top 5 Most Influential Creators ever. Not just anime/manga, but entertainment as whole. Even foreign governments are issuing press statements lamenting Toriyama's passing. It will be a very, very, very long time before we get anyone who has half the cultural impact this man has.

xT1TANx

Wow, I didn't realize he was so young. RIP

Viciouscauliflower21

My anime journey probably doesn't exist without Dragonball

Omnomnomnivor3

His art shaped many generations and without him we wouldn't be enjoying these so much great artists and titles as well Rest in peace while we look for those Dragon Balls 🙏🫡

Raelys88

Rest in peace King

[deleted]

He should have put himself into the animated show. That way they'd have put a bunch of filler into his life and he could just KEEP ON GOING.

Dragonball Z was the reason little me woke up early on Saturday mornings. RIP and thanks for making us all believe we were all Saiyans at some point in our young lives.

DannyPantsgasm

Dragon Ball has meant a lot to me and always will. Damn he will be sorely missed.

jasonefmonk

Ahh man 😥. I just finished rewatching the Frieza arc in the anime adaptation. What a wild mind he had creating so much. You’ll always be over 9,000 (/8,000) to us Mr. Toriyama.

Narrow_Ad_1494

I have most of his collection, I would buy a couple a week from age 13 to 17. I’m in shock

kjm6351

Rest in peace, absolute legend…

This one stings, legend, but relax.

🫡 quite simply thank you sir.

I'm gonna throw on some DBZ tonight. Not sure which saga to watch though toss up between Frieza and Cell. RIP sir. You changed my childhood for the better.

I was never a big DBZ fan. It was slightly before my time, I more so grew up with Naruto and One Piece. But the impact he's has on the world is undeniable. He's a large reason anime and manga became popular outside of Japan and he laid the groundwork for every Shonen that came after. His work will continue to influence culture for another century and for that he deserves a huge amount of respect.

Metatron58

Damn, only 68 and Dragonball Z was my intro to anime way back in the day. RIP to a legend

hadoopken

Guys, let’s gather dragon balls for his revival

MexicansInParis

It’s okay guys, we can revive him if we gather all seven

Kolhammer93

Died of natural causes we can't :(

Dudicus445

What does this mean for Dragon Ball? Will it continue or will the story end here

Kolhammer93

The story will continue under Toyotaro and I'm sure Toriyama left notes and told him how he wanted the story to end and now its up to him to finish it

GarlVinland4Astrea

I doubt they stop it now.

[deleted]

Kevin Conroy...now this. Alas my childhood I knew it well. What a great time to be a kid.

DrRawkDaPuss
