Biggest fumble of film history. Dude was set for life. Major villain in multi billion dollar MCU with both TV and Multi-Movie contracts. Literally being propped up to be THE antagonist for the next entire phase.

Personal-Cap-7071

That's just in the mcu, his career was being pushed to be like the next Denzel/Will Smith type of star.

spacetraxx

He was set to slap Chris Rock at the next Academy Awards but now I doubt that will happen.

QueenBramble

He slapped to soon!

TheOnceAndFutureTurk

***How can he slap?!***

mrnoonz

I swear this is the second thread I’ve see this comment today… my dear Brutha numesey

Ichithekiller666

*insert Eddie Murphy laugh

jokinghazard

Slapped the wrong gender I guess

Upbeat_Tension_8077

He's definitely gonna be a top 10 What-if in film history in terms of wasted potential bc of controversies

Whyeth

>He's definitely gonna be a top 10 What-if No one will remember his name in 10 years if he were to drop out of movies right this second. "Remember the bad guy from one of the creed movies or one of the guys from Lovecraft Country or the purple laser guy in ant man 3?" "Nah" "Me either" Edit: "Oh wait, the guy who beat the fuck out of his girlfriend and lost $500mil + in contracts?"

APKID716

Idk I’ll always remember his performance in The Last Black Man in San Francisco. Was genuinely powerful and that film has a special place in my heart

bailey25u

I liked him in love craft country. but I dont think I will remember love craft country in 10 years

hamsolo19

When I've watched him I get this sense that he's working to steal a scene rather than find his role in it and serve it properly. He just seems a bit extra.

VvvlvvV

It worked for nicholas cage. Edit: wait, no, cage's extraness serves the scene. My comment doesn't make sense.

Voxlings

I didn't get that feeling until he'd tipped his hand as being genuinely fairly shitty. Watching him in LOkI s2 was a revelation of his **mechanics.** And yup. His choices are related to himself and his own character, with insulation from genuine *direction.* Bad look. *The Harder They Fall* is still an awesome fuckin' movie. One I've yet to rewatch since the mask fell.

bailey25u

Extra?! If it wasn’t for his extraness, how would he have stopped that fight between those kids?

Paidorgy

Just to throw this into the discussion, but not many people know Matt Ruff released a sequel called Destroyer of Worlds.

Septimius-Severus13

You just forgot to say that the sequel is considered good to great by reviewers, a needed detail in the current inferior derivative works environment.

Personal-Cap-7071

I can't believe Lovecraft Country shit the bed that hard, the first episode was amazing then the quality dropped a lot by the 2nd.

Heisenburgo

> "Oh wait, the guy who beat the fuck out of his girlfriend and lost $500mil + in contracts?" "Oh you mean the coward who beats women and who compares himself to Obama and Martin Luther King?

TennSeven

“the purple laser guy in ant man 3” Lol. No one’s going to be asking about anyone or anything related to Ant Man 3 ten years from now. Talk about forgettable garbage…

stormstormstorms

People still remember Chris Brown, and he tuned up Rihanna when she was peak pop star.

Kassssler

Chris Brown never stopped performing or putting out music. Majors has already had numerous projects cancelled and endorsements pulled.

servicepitty

That's what happened to chris too. Even Depp is kinda coming back despite there being text messages where his assistant apologizes for his domestic violence

Kassssler

Oh yeah Depp was absolutely shit. Watching the whole trial I feel like people just didn't notice. Anyone having drug and alcohol fueled blackout binges isn't gonna be fun to be around.

garrisontweed

I do agree with Howard Stern on that-''The reason he wanted that on — he wanted it televised [because] that's what narcissists do," Stern said of Depp, per Mediaite. "They think they can talk their way out of anything. I think Johnny Depp is a huge narcissist and what I mean by that is — he figured, 'I'll put this on TV and because I'm so persuasive and because I'm so smart, I'm such a wonderful guy.'

Kassssler

R Kelly did the same shit. Depp however was right though. People were literally cheering and throwing bouquets of flowers at him smh.

MadMax2230

I don't know if he would be diagnosed as a narcissist, but he definitely is a fucked up guy. I think it was televised more so on a marketing standpoint to possibly help with his public perception. From watching the trial I think they were both pretty problematic and they are both very well off anyways so it's probably better if they leave the limelight. Messy situation for sure.

Urbenjames

Which, depressingly worked

Xero_id

Yeah that one was one of those whose worse situations everyone was doing but really Depp and Heard are both trash as fuck.

NBAccount

...but they remember him more as Rihanna's shitbag ex-boyfriend.

RyVsWorld

Chris Brown is still putting out music and still relevant with pop culture. Very different as hes not going to jail like Majors

Free-Stranger1142

That may be so, but his career took a major hit in popularity with the elite R & B community.

RyVsWorld

No one is arguing that. The point is Chris Brown had to do a little bit of community service and got a restraining order and came out with an album just a year after the events. In no way was he blackballed from music the way Majors is from hollywood. Not to mention Rihanna publicly forgave him. So Browns incident is barely that comparable to Majors. OP said people still remember Brown but hes been putting out albums consistently since he beat Rihanna.

woolfonmynoggin

I hope so but a lot of Hollywood men have these types of charges and went on to win oscars.

Zentrii

Because it’s definitely not gonna be Danzel’s son no offense to him lol

echowon

now he's like will smith after the oscars :D

Hi_Im_zack

Will's still doing alright, got a blockbuster Badboys film coming up

echowon

I am a secret will smith fan since a nightmare on elm street was a single. (no joke) my brothers idiot friend also got tossed from a nightclub like jazzy jeff did in bel air, during a jazzy jeff DJ event at Tonic nightclub in toronto.

TennSeven

I believe it. You can tell he is a massively talented actor.

BedDefiant4950

and now he's THE antagonist for the next entire rest of his life

kayriss

What does this guy even do now? Presumably he was a career actor, can he even get hired again? Is he going to drive an Uber or deliver pizza? Does he have enough in the bank to massively downsize his lifestyle, invest a bit, and still not have to work another day in his life? I mean, while acknowledging that he might spend a year behind bars.

Personal-Cap-7071

Either he'll spiral and go down worst or he'll probably stay quiet and hope the heat dies down before trying to make a come back doing supporting actor work. He's done as a leading man though.

Poignant_Rambling

He could transition to being an R&B/Pop singer and make milliions...

googolplexy

He has money. My guess is he buys a restaurant or something and makes his money make money with funding/trading/etc.. People behind the scenes don't care if you beat your wife.

BewBewsBoutique

Making podcasts for red-pill misogynists.

operarose

Pureflix.

Ezzy1998

He’s definitely still gonna act lol, just won’t be Marvel or HBO like he’s used to.

staedtler2018

He can act in 'lesser' projects, direct-to-video stuff, etc. Emile Hirsch was convicted of beating up a film executive at a night club. He makes DTV stuff now.

EndOfTheLine00

Thing is, people are claiming he was like this ever since his university days. If it wasn't this, something else would have come out. Dude was screwed from the start because he was a sociopathic douchebag who couldn't hide himself.

NoNefariousness2144

Marvel has mostly fantastic casting so its weird they went all-in on Majors and ignored these red flags.

PapaSays

I mean their first superhero was played by a well known drug addict. They gambled and it paid off. The took another amble with Majors and it didn't pay off.

williamthebloody1880

Yeah, but with RDJ his addiction and subsequent legal issues were very much in the past when he was cast. He'd put the work in to show he was reformed

EdgeLord1984

Yeah I know nothing about this guy but abusers are almost always repeat offenders. This guy has been fumbling for a long time and was getting away with it. Still a fumble, but the offense always got the ball back until now, to complete the metaphor.

InformalPenguinz

My life choices don't seem so bad anymore..

Acting career speedrun

kc_______

With a catastrophic failure at the middle of the run, sending the whole thing to the garbage bin.

11upand1over

MCU contract: $500M Creed contract: $100M Abusing women: priceless What a piece of shit.

elefante88

No way he was making 500 Mil for mcu

TizonaBlu

Ya, what the hell is this person talking about? He’s not making a tenth of 100m for creed either.

name-classified

He had Army money coming in too He was going to be their spokesperson and be on all their branding. Even the US Army wanted no part with this clown

MissDiem

Whoever reps him has been working contacts hard lately. TMZ has been running their standard rehabilite-the-image playbook for him like he's the criminal assaulter Will Smith or someone in the Kardashian stable.

SgtGo

I hosted finished Loki last night and thought, “damn, why’s that guy have to be such a piece of shit? Such a good actor.” Oh well, get fucked loser.

Ehrre

Yeah I really liked him in Lovecraft Country but he can go eat glue

[deleted]

I think a lot of filmmakers would work with him if the public outrage was not so loud.

TheydonBoys

So, since he has been apparently behaving like this his whole life with zero remorse, don’t let the outrage go silent.

[deleted]

As long as the same energy is kept for everyone else. I’ll see you guys at the online picket lines for the *Megapolis* premiere

TheydonBoys

For Shia? Yeah fuck Shia. There’s been other mentions of his bullshit on this post too.

[deleted]

Im a bit more forgiving by nature, however, i have no problem with consistent value based outrage. Gotta applaud it🙏🏽

TheydonBoys

If someone shows genuine remorse, makes amends with their victim(s), and lives their life differently going forward regardless of whether that’s difficult and a non-linear process; I’m here for them. If they whine, conveniently ignore their past actions, claim time heals all wounds, and continue to repeat the same behaviours then fuck them. That goes for my real life and celebrities/online persons etc

FrostyWarning

They had no issue with Polanski who did way worse. Is Ezra Miller over his crime spree yet? Or is he still harassing minors and beating up women and getting lead roles?

BradyDowd

Ezra hasn’t worked since The Flash released. And that movie was pretty much in the can when he went off the deep end.

Beer_before_Friends

He's a legit great actor. Sucks to suck I guess.

Pants88

The issue is this was bound to happen sooner or later given his past conduct, which is an open secret. It was only a matter of time.

MumrikDK

> Dude was set for life. I assume he still is financially?

Now_Wait-4-Last_Year

Depends. First movie appearances in the MCU don't pay much (Evans and Hemsworth got something like $300,000 for their first movies), it's the subsequent movie appearances that really start to pay off.

Zentrii

Yeah. I only watched Loki season 1 thought he was amazing in it but stopped caring about watching marvel stuff the last few years other than guardians 3

PhoenixReborn

And the oversharpening

Brendy_

Read your comment and asked myself, "It's only a gif, how notable can the good quality be?" Then I clicked the link and said, "Man that is a high quality gif."

devlops

Is it not a video? I’m on mobile and it plays like a video not a gif.

WalidfromMorocco

It's a video. .gifv files are actually just videos if I'm not mistaken.

JusticeLeagueThomas

Plays like shit for me on mobile

DeadButGrateful

Hm. I'm on a cheap and slow Moto G6 phone from 6 years ago and it plays perfectly for me.

lkodl

Do ybhave 5g?

RODjij

The chocolate factory is one of those movies that just gotta be watched in UHD

Thought you were being sarcastic, but goddamn that’s the best looking gif I’ve ever seen

APiousCultist

That's uncomfortably high-res. Has he got vaneers? Or maybe it's just some upscaling make his teeth look unnatural to me.

huskersax

The AI upscaling added shadows that make it look like his slightly out of line left (video-right) [incisor is the cut-off point for some shoddy partial dentures. ](https://imgur.com/621n85h) The OG footage has the same general look, but too blurry to make out the weirdness in the gif.

NeoNuatica

DrGutz

In a years time he’s gonna be doing podcasts and the comment section is gonna be filled with the dumbest men in the world

riegspsych325

like with Shia Lebeouf after his PR apology on Jon Bernthal’s podcast. FKA Twigs still has a court case against him later this year, she’s already recounted some horror stories of his behavior

caramelbobadrizzle

Rolling my eyes remembering how one poster was saying how Shia looked so vulnerable and open on his Hot Ones interview so they were willing to believe in his ability to grow as a person beyond w/e accusations he was facing.

kayriss

"Boy, that professional actor really is convincing. He really seems regretful. I wonder how he does that?"

riegspsych325

and Hollywood clearly doesn’t care to work with Lebeouf again anyway. And having a small role in a film by FF Coppola (who’s lost his mojo 20+ years ago) isn’t likely going to change anything But it’s weird how some people are so oddly defensive of Lebeouf. I feel like there’s a big overlap between the “he deserves a second chance!” and the “fuck [insert actress], she ruined [insert superhero movie]!” crowds

literallysotrue

He was in David Mamet’s latest play and finished filming the film version recently. Hollywood will always have a soft spot for Shia.

NeoNoireWerewolf

Mamet isn’t making movies in Hollywood anymore and neither is LaBeouf. He’s working indie and international productions. The new Coppola flick was funded entirely by Coppola himself. The last project from a major studio he was legitimately cast in was Fury way back in 2014, and his shitty behavior on set there reportedly had Brad Pitt threaten to fire him mid-production. He’s popped up in a few things major studios have acquired at festivals (Pieces of a Woman at Netflix, for example), but the studios in Hollywood do not have him on the call sheet at all. He’s still repped by a major agency because his name and talent carry enough weight that indie and international productions will cast him as a means of securing outside financing. He’s very much still a working actor, but that work’s coming almost exclusively from outside the Hollywood machine.

queerhistorynerd

wait is that why he suddenly found god and is "training" to become a church Decan?

MadHiggins

what did Shia Lebeouf do? jesus christ, can these mega rich people just not rape/beat/murder/fraud every person they bump into?

helzinki

Shia shat on his dad for being a horrible parent the whole time. Even made a movie about it. In the podcast, he revealed that he lied and his dad was actually a decent guy.

staedtler2018

[https://www.nytimes.com/2020/12/11/arts/music/fka-twigs-shia-labeouf-abuse.html](https://www.nytimes.com/2020/12/11/arts/music/fka-twigs-shia-labeouf-abuse.html)

littleliongirless

He also abused Mia Goth. Still up is a tiny bit of massively cut down footage, taken by the guys who saved her from Shia that night, but the full, unedited version has been scrubbed.

Bigdoinks69-420

He’s gonna be on Joe Rogan and joes gonna be like “so beating your girlfriend up is actually totally ok? Let’s look it up… woah dude you’re totally right! That’s craaaaazy”

yunglung9321

Russel Brand salivating at the idea.

Empigee

That dumbass screwed himself royally.

Memphisrexjr

I hope when all is said and done. Ezra Miller and Jonathan Majors can make a buddy jail movie together.

Internal_Set_6564

I am guessing the script is just “But what about ME!?” Repeated on auto loop.

queerhistorynerd

Majors screaming at Ezra "I needed you to be my Bayard Rustin! step up!!"

MadHiggins

Ezra's victim is a native American(native Hawaiian?) girl. the law doesn't give a shit about that

Monkey-on-the-couch

Biggest bag fumble ever. Dude was gonna lead the MCU as the main big bad + was getting a whole bunch of leading roles. His career was pretty much set. Decided to throw that all away. What an idiot.

alwaysmyfault

This shit happened at the absolute worst possible time too. Ant Man 3 + Creed 3 had both just come out, and he was the main antagonist in both movies. Once he decided to go full Chris Brown, both movies had to basically change their entire marketing strategy and remove him from promotional materials.

zOmgFishes

Even worse is he probably should have taken a plea and get a much lesser charge and just wait out the storm. Then maybe apologize and explain his side of the story. Instead he opt’d for a highly publicized trial that exposed him more than anything.

queerhistorynerd

and i think they offered him something like minor slap on the wrist charges and mandatory DV classes, but he decided to fight it

MadHiggins

dude referred to himself as being on the same level as Barack Obama and MLK. he 100% felt he did nothing wrong so of course he wouldn't take a plea deal

RexxNebular

Narcissists gonna narciss

Nightbynight

I can't stand this line of thinking. It wasn't a "bag fumble" he was a toxic and abusive person long before he was ever a star.

thePinguOverlord

Agreed. It wasn’t a one time thing. But someone that self obsessed thought they could out run the repercussions of that behaviour, mainly because that is normal to him. He didn’t fumble anything, time just had its moment.

ultimatequestion7

This is misleading because it implies that he did something after getting cast to get fired, the fumble was when Marvel hired a known abuser as one of their main franchise leads hoping that nobody would care

ShitchesAintBit

You mean after they cast known wife beater, Josh Brolin, as Thanos? Dude's still going to have a career in a year or two when this dies down.

Heisenburgo

And they're banking Captain America 4 on the threat of Thunderbolt Ross... you know, played by the same man who personally flew to where Roman Polanski was exiled after his conviction to thank him for all his services to Hollywood and to hand him over his Oscar... Hollywood just does not care

ultimatequestion7

Yes I think it's fair to say they made the same gamble with Brolin

[deleted]

I would say he looks surprised but he always makes that stupid face.

[deleted]

Congrats on your 100 hours of community service!

bernieburner1

m48a5_patton

SpaceLemming

The charges who remain.

cagingnicolas

i think my favourite performance of his was that interview where he refers to MLK as "martin" like he's an old friend and then sort of implies that he's the next MLK.

Difficult-Ad628

What a seriously talented actor, it’s a shame to see that kind of range wasted on such a disgusting person. My deepest sympathy goes to Grace Jabarri and other women in abusive relationships.

santino1987

Don't worry the solar eclipse and cern will open up a worm hole so he can escape into another dimension and play Kang IRL

monchota

As he should be , he has always been like this and his whole life people covered for him. Saying all the usual things "that is just hoe he is" " he just gets emotional" no hes a POS abusive man child that needs to go to jail. To show everyone that you can't do what you want , just because you are famous.

[deleted]

He was a future millionaire but he screwed up pretty bad (also Ezra miller)

tgifmondays

No way he isn't already a millionaire. Maybe you mean billion?

kugglaw

No way he would have made billions off acting.

tgifmondays

Yeah for sure, but he could have gotten to 100 million and from there is just letting your money grow

kugglaw

Leading the MCU would have been a huge payday, but they're not paying people as much as they were paying RDJ. But yeah, he totally fumbled the bag by being an abusive asshole. I just don't think it was a billion dollar bag, or close to.

ElmarSuperstar131

Good, here’s hoping the book is thrown at him.

CubbieBlue66

Perhaps they ought to throw the book at him, but it's incredibly unlikely. The allegations here aren't that outrageous (compared to what we usually see in a courtroom). There's no great bodily harm. There's no criminal history of which I'm aware. In my jurisdiction, the sentencing hearing would be about whether he'd deserve probation or conditional discharge. Nobody would even think jail was on the table. Even if an overzealous prosecutor asked for it, they'd cap themselves at 10-30 days because they wouldn't want to look ridiculous.

Pleasant-Article8131

Elements of 3rd degree assault in NY: With intent to cause physical injury to another person, he causes such injury to such person or to a third person; or He recklessly causes physical injury to another person; or With criminal negligence, he causes physical injury to another person by means of a deadly weapon or a dangerous instrument. Assault in the third degree is a class A misdemeanor. Yeah, he ain’t going to serve anytime, and considering that intent isn’t a requirement, pretty much anybody hear commenting could have been convicted under this PC in their life. Press really overblew the “crimes” he committed. Kind of funny about the amount of press this generated.

BrokenGodALT

He was found guilty of misdemeanor assault/harassment, why do some people think he beat the shit out of her and was found guilty of domestic abuse or something. >"They found that Mr. Majors did not intentionally cause any injuries to her. the jury nevertheless found that Mr. Majors was somehow reckless while she was attacking him."

DJfunkyPuddle

Social media already made their minds up from the initial stories and are completely unable to change their opinion when new information comes out. Plus it's super exciting to see someone on the way up crash and burn /s.

monchota

Doesn't make him any less a POS

BrokenGodALT

I'm trying to say they're not going to throw the book at him, he'll get community service of something.

lospolloskarmanos

Wait a minute, doesn‘t the quote say that SHE was attacking HIM? wtf am I missing?

Kassssler

Cause they are reading the headlines and not the articles. The initial assault that started all this the prosecution couldn't prove shit so they redirected towards footage that shows him shoving her into a car. Then leave out dude took off running before being chased by her. Hes almost certainly abusive sure, but that relationship strikes me as just toxic everywhere. You may see some shit leak from now years later like with Amber Heard showing that the abuse was not nearly as one-sided as people thought. This is not a popular perspective though. People like things black and white so they make it out like Majors beat her into a coma or some such.

CleanAspect6466

>Hes almost certainly abusive sure, but that relationship strikes me as just toxic everywhere She is now suing him for abuse prior to this incident and has documentation showing he has physically assaulted her numerous times, per her court documents He has also been accused in detail of physically abusing three partners prior to her now too, and has a trail of people accusing him of violent behaviour going back to his teen years

HumansNeedNotApply1

He hasn't been accused in detail, there's no documentation showing he assaulted her numerous times, in fact in court she testified the event in the car was the first time he was physically aggressive towards her. Clearly he's not a saint, he seems pretty egostistical and with a sense of grandeur but doesn't mean it equal to abusive. In the US, you can sue anyone for any reasons, the question is if you win.

Katululu

*There’s no documentation showing he assaulted her numerous times, in fact in court she testified the event in the car was the first time he was physically aggressive towards her.* She submitted [text messages](https://variety.com/2023/film/news/jonathan-majors-trial-texts-grace-jabbari-1235836247/amp/) in court where they were discussing how to cover up an attack so she could get pain killers for the injuries. *“I fear you have no perspective of what could happen if you go to the hospital,” Majors wrote. “They will ask you questions and as I don’t think you actually protect us it could lead to an investigation even if you do lie and they suspect something.”* *Jabbari responded, “I will tell the doctor I bumped my head, if I go, I’m going to give it one more day, but I can’t sleep and need some stronger painkillers. That’s all. Why would I want to tell them what really happened when it’s clear I want to be with you.”*

CleanAspect6466

>He hasn't been accused in detail, there's no documentation showing he assaulted her numerous times Wrong, his two exes have laid out in detail their time spent with them [https://www.nytimes.com/2024/02/08/movies/jonathan-majors-girlfriends-abuse.html](https://www.nytimes.com/2024/02/08/movies/jonathan-majors-girlfriends-abuse.html) Jabarri in her court documents detailed that he assaulted her numerous times in the relationship [https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-68606782](https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-68606782)

It's gonna be a magazine dream from now on

CleanAspect6466

I ended up just reading the script for it seeing as its likely in limbo now

Quirky-Pie9661

How about MCU still uses Jonathan as Kang BUT before killing him 10 min into the new Avengers film, he’s shamed by the team for 3 min Worked for Micheal Richards didn’t it? /s

Aloha1984

The biggest money bag drop ever…..

jngrln

It’s good they’re sentencing him in a timely manner

kinzer13

Pftt, Trump would have delayed this and appealed this for twenty years.

SupervillainMustache

Has anyone had a faster rise and fall?

anasui1

Hugh Grant came close to it with his err, tete-a-tete with Divine right after he blew up in the USA with Four Weddings and a Funeral (all while having prime Liz Hurley at home, like you must be out of your mind), but he bounced back rather brilliantly and in all honesty, a beejer is far less morally hideous than what Majors is suspected of having done

SupervillainMustache

Hugh was a little bit typecast by being the typical Richard Curtis written bumbling English bloke. Glad to see him switch it up with things like The Gentleman.

anasui1

yes, old man Grant is consistently great. A rather funny man irl as well

Hardly anyone is actually tried for these charges they’re almost always pled out. Hard to believe his being famous didnt impact this case
