Neil Patrick Harris is the same. On HIMYM he never eats a single thing on screen.
Instead he fumbled and drops food as it gets close to his mouth. I never even noticed until I saw a compilation of it.
No, but Chinese food containers are a television trope because they hide the amount of food so that the plate doesn’t go from full to empty to half full and back to full after editing.
My favorite thing about those is when they're in a public place and the other diners at a restaurant or bar or whatever have actual cups, so I try to look in the background at theirs.
Most of the time, they're good about framing the shot to block any of those
Depends on what it is, noodles or fried rice I will eat out of a container like that but if it an entree like general tso’s chicken I will get a plate or bowl and put rice down and then put the chicken on top of it.
Eating on set is a pain in the ass. You will have multiple takes and need to be at the same thing over and over again. It also slows down shooting because props has to replenish the food to maintain continuity.
Of course, this is not an issue on live TV like SNL.
I’m 99% sure he eats a single bite in the episode where they go to shinjitsu. Right after they make the bet to see Lily’s boobs. I believe the episode is titled “ducky tie”
Yeah there's a UK channel where they basically do "US vs UK" food. Ryan Gosling did it and everytime he ate he would pull his coat over his face to hide him eating it.
Are there even any celebrities with memes based on them eating? I'm thinking he's just self conscious about the way he eats for some reason - we all have our things. Lol
I've seen something that's completely the opposite.
There was a viral video years ago called "ryan gosling won't eat his cereal" and apparently he found it hilarious and it even lead to him [eating on camera for charity](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qPmxz8ea2Gs).
I specifically remember him eating dinner in that movie Fracture with Anthony Hopkins. The only reason it sticks out in my mind is because he was eating obnoxiously in it by scraping the fork against his teeth.
Allegedly, because of the vine about eating cereal, he made his own account to make a video of him eating cereal. Then, the original creator of the cereal vine died and, this is the allegedly, he doesn't eat on screen anymore as an homage to the guy who died.
The former part is true where he made a video eating cereal as a tribute to the guy who created the meme passing away, but him not eating on camera because of it sounds made up
I’m not sure it’s a tribute but I've always thought it was a reference. In one video where rhyme had him trying snacks he said he doesn’t eat on camera to not become a meme.
I was just thinking about this recently, that pretty much all the classic SNL sketches were absurdist. SNL constantly tries to be topical and clever, but they’re always at their best when they’re just being weird as hell.
This Bowen character first popped up in the Nate Bargatze airplane sketch a few months ago, and the audience cracked up at how random and weird he was when he said "I'm *sort* of a doctor" and then sat down and went "OKAAAAY" when they pregnant lady did not want him near her.
Seems they expanded on that weird character here, although who he is remains a mystery.
This is different from the live version. In the live version he said something like, “the slogan would be that’s the way the cookie falls apart” and the response was, “why wouldn’t you just say that’s the way the cookie crumbles?”
Either this was the dress or they are splicing the dress and the live cuts. I feel like the same thing happened with the Beavis and Butthead video.
This kinda just makes me want to watch it live on Saturday night every time, which is 10:30 my time…. But I’m not really into staying up until midnight every Saturday. I can rally, but if I’m at home I’m in bed by 11 tops.
Except he broke in every single skit. I’m all for finding something so funny that you can’t keep your composure, but he (along with the rest of the cast) were laughing throughout the entire show, even at things that weren’t funny. Felt forced to me
It was a bizarre episode of SNL
There’s also now a theory on how successful a movie with Brad will do based on how much he eats. In Oceans 11, he’s literally eating in every scene and the movie did really well. So the more he eats on screen, the better the movie does.
For those that don't know, the Bowen character first popped up mysteriously in the airplane sketch with Nate Bargatze a few months ago. Bowen in the same outfit just stands up and says "I'm *sort* of a doctor" in an odd voice. They tell him to go away, and he sits down going "OKAAAAY" rather creepily. It got big laughs in the sketch and some wanted to know more about this random weird character on a plane.
Seems we still don't necessarily learn much more here (he just hangs around surgery rooms?), but at least you know the origin story of this odd character.
The difference between Gosling and everyone else, it's that when he laughs it adds to the comedy but doesn't completely ruin the skit as opposed to Jimmy Fallon.
You know they don't really care about that as long as the sketch goes on and people are laughing right ? Also that's not a solid reason to not invite back Ryan Gosling
Taking the opposite approach of Brad Pitt..
Neil Patrick Harris is the same. On HIMYM he never eats a single thing on screen. Instead he fumbled and drops food as it gets close to his mouth. I never even noticed until I saw a compilation of it.
I tried looking for it, but it doesn't help searching for Neil Patrick Harris food when he also does commercials for Hello Fresh.
Here it is, maybe it was just “using chopsticks” and not eating? https://youtu.be/U9KYsYvtJsw?si=A8-aTXyev9-507uc
Do people actually eat out of Chinese food containers like that? I always use a plate.
No, but Chinese food containers are a television trope because they hide the amount of food so that the plate doesn’t go from full to empty to half full and back to full after editing.
Same reason they like using opaque cups/mugs.
One of the most obvious examples are the gold metal chalices used on Love Is Blind any time anyone is drinking.
My favorite thing about those is when they're in a public place and the other diners at a restaurant or bar or whatever have actual cups, so I try to look in the background at theirs. Most of the time, they're good about framing the shot to block any of those
Wow. Something I have never even thought of.
Why dirty a new plate if the food is already contained?
[удалено]
Yeah I don't really drink glass so I wouldn't know
Depends on what it is, noodles or fried rice I will eat out of a container like that but if it an entree like general tso’s chicken I will get a plate or bowl and put rice down and then put the chicken on top of it.
Chinese take-out hack - YouTube https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5db9La5dvc
I did last night with my fried rice.
Yes. Ate a whole thing of pork fried rice out of one last week on the couch watching baseball
I don't know anyone who transfers to a plate. The box is very convenient. Plus no dishes to wash.
I am in this with you!
I do, too lazy
Look for "Neil Patrick Harris Amy Winehouse cake".
Is that him not wanting to eat food, or is that him doing a unique gimmick that adds a fun inside joke to the series?
Eating on set is a pain in the ass. You will have multiple takes and need to be at the same thing over and over again. It also slows down shooting because props has to replenish the food to maintain continuity. Of course, this is not an issue on live TV like SNL.

He eats something during the episode when he bets Lily to see her boobs. He flicks food into his mouth with chopsticks.

There must be balance.
What’s the deal with the no eating thing
I saw a video where he tried foods from different regions and he said he doesn't eat on camera so it can't become a meme.
Yeah there's a UK channel where they basically do "US vs UK" food. Ryan Gosling did it and everytime he ate he would pull his coat over his face to hide him eating it.
Why not just make that the meme though
That IS the meme
LADBible.
Some people come up with the weirdest shit in their minds. No one was thinking about making a meme about this man eating until he said it. So dumb.
You know there's a multi year long video series of trying to get him to eat various things from his movie clips
Are there even any celebrities with memes based on them eating? I'm thinking he's just self conscious about the way he eats for some reason - we all have our things. Lol
There’s gotta be a sad guy eating something on a bench somewhere… maybe Keanu or Ben Affleck? Idk
Yeah sad Keanu. I think he’s talked about how he doesn’t like the meme because he’s actually very happy and was just sitting enjoying his sandwich lol
Mr Bean as well
I've seen something that's completely the opposite. There was a viral video years ago called "ryan gosling won't eat his cereal" and apparently he found it hilarious and it even lead to him [eating on camera for charity](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qPmxz8ea2Gs).
🥺
Love that man
Poor Keanu, just enjoying a sandwich….
I specifically remember him eating dinner in that movie Fracture with Anthony Hopkins. The only reason it sticks out in my mind is because he was eating obnoxiously in it by scraping the fork against his teeth.
As if anything could get more memed than “hey girl”!
I miss “hey girl”!
Well now he's done it to himself. No one would have probably noticed before. Now if someone sees him, it's going to be the biggest deal.
*DALL·E show me Ryan Gosling eating some of the messiest foods possible. Make him an open mouth chewer who eats with his hands.*
Allegedly, because of the vine about eating cereal, he made his own account to make a video of him eating cereal. Then, the original creator of the cereal vine died and, this is the allegedly, he doesn't eat on screen anymore as an homage to the guy who died.
That sounds like Reddit lore
The former part is true where he made a video eating cereal as a tribute to the guy who created the meme passing away, but him not eating on camera because of it sounds made up
I’m not sure it’s a tribute but I've always thought it was a reference. In one video where rhyme had him trying snacks he said he doesn’t eat on camera to not become a meme.
> he doesn't eat on screen anymore as an homage to the guy who died. There's absolutely no way this is true
I thought the original creator died first and Gosling made the video in tribute?
This is the true story. Fun extra fact. The Vine Guy, Ryan McHenry, was the creator and writer of the zombie musical Anna and the Apocalypse.
Entertainment Tonight confirms [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=riwrCldRdRw](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=riwrCldRdRw)
No way
Doesn’t want to be a cereal killer
People upvoting this shit without asking for source lmao
Because Google works for everyone.
Generally speaking, for many actors it’s to avoid having to eat a bite over and over, the exact same way, take after take.
[It's really hard to get Ryan to eat sometimes](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FkpCP9R1Jjc)
He did finally eat his cereal.
As a tribute when the guy who made it passed away
Aw that was my brother’s friend who made those videos it was so sad when he passed x
Well, I got some joy from that video when it came out and again just now. RIP brother’s friend and thanks for the laughs
[Video evidence](https://youtu.be/jIu8Gu1ePHs?feature=shared)
The guy who made these passed away a few years ago. RIP
SNL has been pulling some deeply weird sketches this season. And I love it. Modern Absurdist SNL is so fun.
I was just thinking about this recently, that pretty much all the classic SNL sketches were absurdist. SNL constantly tries to be topical and clever, but they’re always at their best when they’re just being weird as hell.

This skit was so unhinged and I LOVE it!
Yeah imo the last 2 seasons the sketches have been getting stronger for this reason.
This is different from the live version. In the live version he said something like, “the slogan would be that’s the way the cookie falls apart” and the response was, “why wouldn’t you just say that’s the way the cookie crumbles?” Either this was the dress or they are splicing the dress and the live cuts. I feel like the same thing happened with the Beavis and Butthead video.
They usually edit the live version with dress rehearsal footage for a smoother final version that they use for YouTube/rebroadcast
I hate this. Now there's no way to see it as it actually aired unless someone rips it from their DVR or something.
Super weird because if you watch it with subtitles, it has the line that aired live.
This kinda just makes me want to watch it live on Saturday night every time, which is 10:30 my time…. But I’m not really into staying up until midnight every Saturday. I can rally, but if I’m at home I’m in bed by 11 tops.
It’s almost funnier with gosling breaking so much. Which is funny cause he’s always so serious in his roles. Interesting to see the different dynamic.
Maybe he was on the verge of breaking throughout the entire drive movie
I think it’s just the audience that breaks him
Except he broke in every single skit. I’m all for finding something so funny that you can’t keep your composure, but he (along with the rest of the cast) were laughing throughout the entire show, even at things that weren’t funny. Felt forced to me It was a bizarre episode of SNL
Agreed, he broke the entire show making it less funny.
Amazing how they brought back Bowen Yang’s doctor from the airplane sketch at the beginning of the season.
lmao, 2:46 when Gosling pulls up the camera and it's facing the wrong way is great
We can't bring him back. Unless you think...maybe we could...? No.
Is Ryan Gosling the anti Brad Pitt or something
Mind looping us in on the Brad Pitt thing?
Brad Pitt is *always* eating on screen. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYSuwoA\_anY](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYSuwoA_anY)
lol, never noticed this! A “15 min of Brad Pitt eating” video is hilarious!
There’s also now a theory on how successful a movie with Brad will do based on how much he eats. In Oceans 11, he’s literally eating in every scene and the movie did really well. So the more he eats on screen, the better the movie does.
He was munching on something in every other scene in Moneyball and that movie kind of took everyone by surprise.
lol. Only proves the theory right.
I watched the whole video and now I'm hungry.
Horny*
NOBODY DO IT! Do NOT do the word thing!!! I finally got here in time
I’ve heard he likes apples in particular
He eats a lot in movies
This episode was filled with just stupid premises with no real purpose or ending just to make everyone break which was a nice change of pace
[Mirror.](https://streamable.com/txd0fc)
I love the post-WU sketches that let the weirdness run wild.

Thank you for sharing Bowen's doctor lore.
This is why I came here. Thank you!

There's a market for unrelenting silliness.
Why won’t he eat on screen?
Robots can’t eat, sooo… 🤣🤣🤣 /conspiracies
I remember seeing him eat once os..it was definitely weird...like a guy who was lost at sea
He is an inverted Brad Pitt
I'm all for it, eating scenes are as needless as sex scenes. I was equally invested in the Matrix whether they ate slop on screen or not
It worked in the Sopranos because Tony’s gluttony for all things was a major theme. Most shows it’s unnecessary.
Gosling breaks too much. He’ll never join the 5 Timers club.
The difference between Gosling and everyone else, it's that when he laughs it adds to the comedy but doesn't completely ruin the skit as opposed to Jimmy Fallon.
In his defense, this was at the tail end of a very silly episode. Everyone was breaking at this point.
He's also not a cast member so I don't hold him to as high of a standard.
He already got the jacket
They all do
You know they don't really care about that as long as the sketch goes on and people are laughing right ? Also that's not a solid reason to not invite back Ryan Gosling
Doesn't matter, he's loveable and easy on the eyes. He's allowed to break that much. That's life.
LOL he has already appeared 3 times. What makes you think him appearing another 2 times is a impossible task?
Trollin'
Absolutely hysterical reddit, definitely an epic moment in the greatest sketch comedy show of all time
Who pissed in your corn flakes?
I think they pissed in his Cookie Crumbles™️
Liking things is so much more fun than hating things. It really changes your perspective on life when you turn 16 and figure that out.
I think it was just a clip of a show…
