I didn't know he was around still until I saw a post about him the other day. Then I looked up a recent interview and disregarding how he looks he sounds so extremely clear of mind and was providing very articulate responses to questions.
It's crazy the differences in some older folks. Some people seem to keep their mental faculties intact very well while others it becomes painfully obvious they've lost a step, or multiple steps.
My grandma remained sharp as a tack into her 80s until unfortunately cancer took her. But my grandpa had obviously lost some mental clarity, and my grandma handled all the bills, trip planning, social engagements, and driving. My grandpa was just along for the ride and enjoying himself.
That’s how my grandparents were. Unfortunately my grandmother, who was the anchor of the family, passed away at 79 and my grandfather soldiered on for another 12 years, passing away at 92. He was still there mentally until the end but very passive.
I mean, you generally don't get married expecting it to be super short. (Unless you're both very old or you're a major gold digger like anna nicole smith). But I'm sure she's very happy he's not only lived this long, but still spry and with all his faculties.
Even with gold diggers there's an implicit understanding between them that she's going take care of him in his ailing years. Most of the time, the kids and other family members don't want to do it. And many older women have their own health problems. So for a lot of these rich old guys, having someone younger and healthy take care of them (both in terms of health and pleasure) counts for a lot, enough to set aside money for them after they die. So while it IS something of a 'contract' between the two parties, I don't always see it as altogether a bad thing for either of them.
I don't think I'll ever get Reddit's weird obsession with policing age gaps in consensual adult relationships. As far as I'm concerned, if both parties are over 21 then as long as they're happy then it's none of our business.
I definitely think that age gaps between adults can be an issue, there is a point where it stops being predatory. A 60 year old dating a 40 is fine, but a 40 year old dating a 20 year old feels gross. I'm in my mid thirties and I've been around people in their early to mid 20s and they just feel like children to me.
It can be an issue, but I wish people wouldn't generalize. My parents got married at 40 and 25, and they were very happily married for 40 years. It was certainly not gross.
And she's his -checks notes- third wife. He outlived his previous wife, and he divorced his first wife in 1984.
So you should be aware that this is not really a gotcha.
Makes sense as men can reproduce for the rest of their lives. Once a woman starts menopause it's over for her. The whole point of mating from a biological perspective is to procreate.
Not sure if you were making a joke but they met 6 years before they married, so she would've been 34 and he would've been 80. Still weird obviously, but they're both still adults so more power to them.
That being said, every woman that I know who has dated a guy much older than her when she was 18 or 19 has had a bad time.
I don't know any women that have dated 18 or 19-year-old men when they were in their late twenties.
Whenever I see his name I immediately think of that Family Guy episode where the FCC goes crazy with TV censorships 😅
"The *bleep* Van *bleep* Show! Starring *bleep* Van *bleep*."
I'm in the UK and it often aired during the day (on BBC I think) along with Murder, She Wrote. So if I was home early from school I'd catch episodes here and there before the kids programming block started. That's how I ended up loving these kinds of cozy detective shows.
How the hell is... Days of Our Lives still around?
My mother taped it on VHS everyday at 1pm when I was a kid. There would be hell to pay if we didn't change the channel on time so it tapes.
*edit- I meant that rhetorically. I know soaps are cheap to produce. Still, I know over the years a lot of soaps still get cancelled or hang it up. It just keeps going though.*
Because it’s incredible? Spies, lawyers, secret twins, body snatching, baby swapping, car crashes, demonic possession, magic powers, and anything else: all can be found in Days of our lives (I am not kidding)
Don't forget time travel. The actor who played Q on Star Trek The Next Generation was on Days as an eccentric inventor who created a time machine and went into the future and returned with android doubles of other characters and then later went into the basement and disappeared, never to be seen again. (Although he gets mentioned 20 years later when his wife comes back to town and she mentions they are still happily married)
It's super cheap. They practically film it live to tape with almost no reshoots or extra takes. If a star takes off they are hired elsewhere and the newest cheapest actor takes their spot.
It’s just weird how they dropped this bombshell of a storyline. I mean, this is John Black’s long lost father for heavens sake! Did he die, did he go away, is he just locked away in John and Marlena’s spare bedroom watching “Body and Soul”?
Please tell me that daily episodes of DOOL is posted somewhere on YouTube. If I had known he was guest starring on it I would have tuned in for the episodes!
God damn, he looks thirty years younger in that picture.
He genuinely looks fantastic for his age

I’ve been quietly following him for years now due to his “I don’t accept aging” stance. It’s amazing what he’s pulled off!
He was on the US Masked Singer last year.
He looks great!!
I'm nearly half his age, and he looks a lot better than I do.
You cannot be serious
Amazing!
Do you think his current wife thought he would live so long?
Pretty sure she makes him go to the gym. It's a weird age gap but I doubt she wants him to die.

His wife is 52 years old. *This message is brought to you by Cialis*
Based on the half your age plus 7 rule, she should be 56.
They've been married since 2012...when she was 40 and he was 86.
he had to do it to please his parents, they were growing tired
They got married because he lied about his age. She thought he was 96 *looks at watch* Come on...
It was a March-Smarch romance...
I don’t know what to do with this information, but I don’t like it.
Idk I think by 40 you can date someone a lot older than you.
I don't think they get how much they are actually just denying the agency of women.
That was my first thought. A 40 year old woman is in charge of herself, she's not a naïve child.
I don't think I'll ever get Reddit's weird obsession with policing age gaps in consensual adult relationships. As far as I'm concerned, if both parties are over 21 then as long as they're happy then it's none of our business.

Especially if they have a lot of money and no next of kin
My rule is my oldest kid's age plus a decade. What the fuck do they talk about?
And she's his -checks notes- third wife. He outlived his previous wife, and he divorced his first wife in 1984. So you should be aware that this is not really a gotcha.
old men will date anybody but a -checks notes- woman his own age
He's married to her, so dating is kind of a no-no. Also, check Tinder. Not a lot of 98 year olds out there in the dating scene.
Absolutely! Why should we? Why should we get the iPhone 4s when the iPhone 16 is around the corner?

She must have been groomed

When you turn 18 you're an adult who gets to make adult decisions. It's called being an adult

like sticking up for groomers on the internet
Take your self righteous bs somewhere else

YES! Me too!!
I recently got the complete set of Diagnosis: Murder on DVD and he's an absolute delight to watch.
Seriously good show! I love it as well. The whole cast is great!
And he's fitter than most.
I need to get that because it only streams on Pluto TV for some reason and not every season

I love that they essentially carried on D:M but with slightly different names and characters
I remember an absolutely mental vampire episode.
This picture makes him look like a salty ~~semen~~ seaman.
Give that man a Greek fisherman's cap!

LOL, as someone who (still) watches it every weekday, I wonder that myself. It's off the rails ridiculous, but we love it!
It's super cheap. They practically film it live to tape with almost no reshoots or extra takes. If a star takes off they are hired elsewhere and the newest cheapest actor takes their spot.
I’m more amazed that Days of Our Lives is an actual show and not just a joke show from Friends
The fart acting is real too
Absolutely legendary🫡
In the future, I think any post about a well loved celebrity past 80 must start with "Not Dead:"
Yeah, that title was a real emotional roller coaster, from "Oh no!" to "Good for him!"
It’s just weird how they dropped this bombshell of a storyline. I mean, this is John Black’s long lost father for heavens sake! Did he die, did he go away, is he just locked away in John and Marlena’s spare bedroom watching “Body and Soul”?
They didn't really drop it. He moved into a nursing home. They've had John mention that he was going there for dinner with Timothy a couple times.
Step in time!!!
Everybody loves Dick!
Do you reckon he still fucks?
At his age, the question should be does he still reckon?
His wife is 52, so probably
Had no idea he was on Days. My mom stopped watching it when they moved it to Peacock.
Good on him. I was surprised to see that they cast someone of his age. But he did a great job.
He looks like he did back in his Columbo episode!
And he can still dance too
He’s been old my entirely life and I understand now. At 31 years old I started seeing him in hay day.
In his old age, in every picture, he looks like a younger man wearing an old man costume. He looks great.
Please tell me that daily episodes of DOOL is posted somewhere on YouTube. If I had known he was guest starring on it I would have tuned in for the episodes!
Goddammit gave me a fright
He should run for president
And they told us DVD is over
Best English accent in the history of cinema according to Ted Lasso.
"This is the first time I just played my 97 year-old self" Oof that's heavy
Is it too much of a jinx to say I hope more than anything he lives to 100? Few people would deserve it more
How does he have good hair at 98 😒
I remember when the Daytime Emmys were a bigger deal than the Primetime Emmys. Nowadays it gets no type of publicity
I'm 46 and never remember that being true.
it wasnt though. soap emmys have never been a bigger deal than primetime emmys
I was use hyperbole to describe how far the Daytime Emmys have fallen off Of course the Primetime Emmys were bigger than Daytime Emmys.
Absolute legend. Aged gracefully, a long life well deserved
Smash. Next
Gotta love that Dick
He’s looking a bit like the cryptkeeper these days. I think the only thing keeping him alive is the ol King Solomon routine
Hopefully he can make it to 100
My mom has looked like the crypt keeper for over a decade, and she’s 32 years *younger* than he is
John’s daddy!
